He once burned with hatred for Israel. Now, he's rebuilding bridges from Nazareth to Jerusalem, from Arabs to Jews, and from division to divine reconciliation. In this riveting episode, Dr. Rev. Saleem Shalash shares his extraordinary journey - raised as a Catholic Arab in Israel, hardened by bitterness, and unexpectedly wrecked by grace. A tragic accident. A voice from heaven. A Bible in his hands for the first time. But this isn't just a personal conversion story - it's a call to the Church, to the nations, and to anyone willing to see beyond headlines and into the heart of God. From confronting replacement theology to launching a humanitarian aid center that serves Jews and Arabs alike, Saleem is living proof that Jesus is still building bridges. Key Takeaways Identity with Depth: Saleem is an Arab Israeli believer - not a convert from Islam, but a lifelong Christian navigating complex identities in the land of Israel. A Tragic Catalyst: The death of a friend forces a deep spiritual reckoning, leading to a radical encounter with God. From Religion to Relationship: His path led through doctrine, but it was mercy that truly changed him. The Eldest Son Syndrome: A powerful revelation from the story of the Prodigal Son unveils a common spiritual pride within the Church. Hatred Healed by the Spirit: A supernatural moment in prayer replaces years of hatred for the Jewish people with overwhelming love. Jesus in the Old Testament: Saleem rediscovers his Bible, this time finding Yeshua in every chapter - from Genesis to Malachi. Bridge Builders in Action: Through Home of Jesus the King Church, he brings food, aid, and the gospel to Arabs, Jews, refugees, and Muslims alike. Challenging the Church: A strong rebuke to Western Christianity for turning from God's promises to Israel. Cultural Keys: How understanding ancient Jewish culture unlocks deeper meaning in Scripture. For this special bonus episode, we’re joined by Pastor of Home of Jesus the King Church in Nazareth, Saleem Shalash. Since Biblical times, there’s been animosity between Arabs and Jews in the Middle East, and as an Israeli Arab Christian, Pastor Saleem often felt stuck in the middle. He was raised with hatred for Israel buried deep in his heart, but after God opened his eyes to the reconciliation and love that’s so desperately needed in the world right now, Saleem began providing much-needed humanitarian support to Jews, Muslims, and Christians through his affiliation with Joseph Project International. In his pursuit to be a peacemaker that helps bring healing to a hurting world, Pastor Saleem is serving families from all ethnic and religious backgrounds across the nation—praying for the next generation to be free of hatred, and instead fueled by love and compassion. Do you want to be part of the family or do you want to stay out?’ I was weeping that night. And I said, ‘God, I can't do it by myself. I need your help.’ I felt that God set me free from this hatred.” - Saleem Shalash “I believe that God keeps His promises. God changed all my life upside down. And I became one of the people that supports Arabs and Jews, who builds bridges between Arab and Jewish people; peacemakers in the land of Israel.” - Saleem Shalash “We need to create a new generation that's empty of hatred. The growing concern about global environmental change and human impacts on the planet has led to the emergence of a broad field of study on the 'sustainability' of human societies. The term's common usage can be traced back to the advent of the Earth Summit in 1992 when 'sustainable development' was broadly embraced by the international community as an ostensibly win-win proposition for economic development, social inclusion, and ecological conservation. Yet both the natural science underpinnings and the social implications of a quest for sustainability have been diffuse. There is a need for a coherent Sustainability: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford UP, 2024) begins by introducing the concept of sustainability and how it has developed. The central chapters consider four key concepts crucial to sustainability: a) material and energy flows in consumption and production; b) technological interventions for a sustainable society; c) tipping points, and resilience in natural and social systems; and d) renewability and circularity in the economy. In this episode of Crime Time, Inc., we journey back to April 1980 in London, where six armed men from the Democratic Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of Arabistan stormed the Iranian Embassy, taking 26 hostages. Hostage-taker leader Saleem, intelligent and articulate, exemplifies the complexity of the assailants demanding autonomy for Iran's Khuzestan province. The siege, lasting six days, saw intricate negotiations and intense preparation by the SAS. The situation escalated when Saleem killed a defiant hostage, triggering the SAS to launch Operation Nimrod. The raid involved precise, simultaneous assaults from all angles, showcasing the SAS's expertise. During the chaos, PC Trevor Locke, who had hidden his weapon, managed to subdue Saleem, preventing further bloodshed. Despite the hostages' fear, most were rescued, though tragically two were lost. The Iranian Embassy siege dramatically altered global counterterrorism approaches, highlighting the crucial role of specialized, well-prepared units in responding to terrorism. The episode underscores the bravery of individuals and the strategic gains in counterterrorism, offering a gripping narrative that resonates with the complexities of resilience and adaptation in facing threats.00:00 Introduction to the Iranian Embassy Siege00:48 Hostage Takers and Their Demands01:58 PC Trevor Locke's Daring Actions02:55 The SAS Prepares for Action03:59 Operation Nimrod: The Raid Begins08:45 The Aftermath and Impact on Counterterrorism10:46 Conclusion and Reflections Hosted on Acast. Recently the kids and I watched the film 'A house in Jerusalem' by filmmaker Muayad Elayyan who happens to be a far cousin and friend of my husband Tariq. Although he told me that he had a small role as an extra in this film, which he's had in all Muayad's films, I did NOT recognize him. Turns out the policeman in the scene when Rebecca wanders off from the summer school activity in Jerusalem and ends up with the Palestinian puppeteer, is MY husband!! We only realized at the end of the film when we saw his name in the end credits, that we had missed out on recognizing him. It was a hilarious moment when we played it again and then figured out the policeman was Tariq!Muayad visits Singer Cafe regularly so it wasn't hard to catch him for a podcast interview. After his earlier films: 'The reports on Sarah and Saleem' and 'Love Theft and Other Entanglements' this film 'A House in Jerusalem' is the latest. It came out in January 2023 and it is still being shown at film festivals around the world. In this film a British Jewish girl named Rebecca comes with her father to Jerusalem after her mother has died in a tragic car accident. Her grandfather has a house in West Jerusalem where they can live. They are both overwhelmed with the trauma of losing the mother, but the father is trying to make things work in their new environment. Rebecca explores the garden, finds an old well, manages to open it and finds a traditional rag doll in the well. This leads her to connect with the ghost of the young Palestinian girl Rasha. What follows is the story of what happened to this girl Rasha during the 1948 Nakba when the family was forcibly displaced from their home.In the podcast interview with Muayad we touch on many aspects of the film and on Muayad's personal family history. His both grandparents were displaced from their homes. The theme of intergenerational trauma both on an individual level as well as on the collective level are very present in the film.Muayad could never have imagined that his film would come out just months before the 7th of October and before the ethnic cleansing campaign in the Gaza strip. "There are many parallels to what happened in 1948 and what is happening in Gaza."If you want to follow up with news of screenings of the film then this is the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ahouseinjerusalem Connect to Stories from Palestine on social media, sign up for the newsletter, read more about traveling to Palestine and if you can, please support the podcast on Ko-fi. To transition to clean energy and green technology like electric cars, the world needs massive amounts of essential minerals. Environmental peacemaker Saleem Ali explains the conflicts already arising between countries rushing to mine and extract these precious minerals — and shows how the world can find a way to cooperate rather than fight resource wars.
