Move Along Home (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9), S1 E10) was recommended by nazzy (she/her), who said: I cannot believe nobody has asked for this one yet!One of the earliest criticisms of DS9 was that it didn't "boldly go", and in its first two seasons in particular, there were a lot of episodes whose basic synopses read "Weird alien(s) come to the station, hijinks occur." And being a DS9 fan as always meant knowing that criticism is always just around the corner, which meant that for episodes like "Move Along Home", the standard response was an embarrassed shrug and a 'yeah...it hadn't found its feet yet. It got better!'And "Move Along Home" is the ur-example of this type of story. Weird aliens come to DS9, and introduce Quark to a strange board game of chance that traps members of the senior staff in a bizarre game world??? And that's the episode?!But then I read a review of "Move Along Home" that reframed the episode for me in a very meaningful way. "Move Along Home", it said, is basically a TOS episode. And that made so much sense! Is Commander Sisko having to play hopscotch and sing a children's song that different from the crew of the TOS Enterprise being forced to fight in "Plato's Stepchildren"? Or acting strangely to break the brains of the androids in "I, Mudd"? Suddenly, it made perfect sense, and "Move Along Home" is no longer embarrassing.Move Along Home first aired on March 14, 1993, written by story by Michael Piller, teleplay by Frederick Rappaport, Lisa Rich and Jeanne Carrigan-Fauci, and directed by David CarsonQuark plays a board game with the Wadi, a newly encountered species from the Gamma Quadrant, and the lives of the crew seemingly depend on the outcome. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook
The latest leg of our flight through entirety comes to a gentle landing this week, but before we all head off to collect our luggage, all seven of us take the opportunity to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat in one last retrospective. Notes and links Thank you to those of you who sent us questions: Kate Orman, Doctor What and General Witchfinders. In our discussion of Sleep No More, Brendan reaches for the name of Bethany Black's love interest in the episode, but goes slightly astray. The name he's after is Chopra, played by the astoundingly beautiful Neet Mohan. In Episode 2 of Flight Through Entirety, Richard famously compares Hartnell's performance style to Marlene Dietrich's. This week, he bookends that beautifully with a comparison of Peter Capaldi's style to Maggie Smith's, particularly her Oscar-winning performance in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Richard alludes to this story from 2015, in which a team consisting of Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss came third in a Doctor Who pub trivia competition at a Doctor Who convention in Sydney. Our website is at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on Apple Podcasts, or we'll abandon you for a few years, leaving you with only a couple of Flight Through Entirety-style Doctor Who podcasts to keep you entertained in the meantime. And more You can find links to all of the podcasts we're involved in on our podcasts page. But here's a summary of where we're up to right now. Now that Flight Through Entirety is taking a break, you should all go and subscribe to 500 Year Diary, our latest new Doctor Who podcast, in which we go back through the history of the show and examine new themes and ideas. Its first season came out early in 2024, under the title New Beginnings. Check it out. It will be back for a second season, The Second Coming, early in 2025. The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire recently released our hot take on Ncuti Gatwa's second Christmas Special (and Steven Moffat's ninth), Joy to the World. And we'll be back again in 2025 to talk about Season 2. Last week, The Three-Handed Game released their first Christmas Special, discussing the 1966 Avengers episode Too Many Christmas Trees, in which Steed's weird Christmas nightmares start to become reality. The boys will be back in 2025 for the third episode in their triptych The Pop Explosion. Maximum Power is back at last with its long-awaited coverage of the 1981 season of Blakes 7. Last weekend we released our discussion on the season's controversial second episode — Power. And finally there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. This week, we watched a notoriously silly early episode of Deep Space Nine, the widely reviled but never forgotten Move Along Home. Thank you very much for listening: we'll see you again in a few years. And on all of our other podcasts, of course.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Series 1, Episode 10. First broadcast on Sunday 14 March 1993. This week, we travel back to a time in the distant past aboard Deep Space Nine, a time before anyone has worked out how the show should be played, written or directed. There's some fun to be had, of course, but not from watching this episode.
The bottom comes for us quickly as we review DS9's most ill-regarded entry, "Move Along Home"! When the finest white trash of the Gamma Quad roll in with their TNG S1 outfits and mullets, we find ourselves agreeing with Ron Moore ... did everyone lose their minds when they made this?
In this episode of OPP we delve into the often polarizing "Move Along Home" from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Join us as we explore the peculiar interesting plot, why it is considered one of the worst trek episodes of all time, and the unique take on alien games. We'll discuss the memorable moments, the mixed reception from fans and critics, and our own takes on where it fits within the larger DS9 narrative. Whether you're a fan of this whimsical episode or find it baffling, there's plenty to unpack in our detailed review. Tune in for an engaging discussion on one of DS9's most distinctive adventures! https://nubeowatches.com/
On this week's episode, Captain Ingle and I set a course for the 24th century and the gateway to the Gamma Quadrant at the Federation outpost Deep Space 9. In this installment, the station's crew prepare to give a diplomatic welcome the first delegation from the Gamma Quadrant, the Wadi. This new species loves games more than anything else, and before they know it, the DS9 crew are caught up in a game more perilous than they could have imagined. Morgen startet sie, die langerwartete Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2022 in Qatar. Nana Visitor on Being Kira Nerys and Beyond It's time to celebrate the 100th episode of Trek Untold, and we can't hit a milestone like that without having a great guest deserving of this number. Joining the show is Nana Visitor, AKA Kira Nerys from all seven seasons of Star Trek DS9! We discuss her upcoming book and documentary "A Woman's Trek," and how the role of women has changed on-screen and socially, and the early days of being Kira Nerys with the struggles she faced in life while simultaneously working on a TV series. Nana explains the hardships she went through as an actor portraying a trauma survivor in Kira and what she did to understand this Bajoran resistance soldier, and her journey as an actor through seven seasons to come to terms with who she was as a character, and how she related to her in real life. We break down the physicality and anxiety of becoming Kira and the indelible mark it left on Nana, discuss some difficult episodes of DS9, including "Duet" with Harris Yulin and "Ties of Blood and Water" with Lawrence Pressman, performing with Marc Alaimo and Louise Fletcher as her respective arch-rivals Gul Dukat and Kai Winn, fond memories of Rene Auberjonois and the romance between Odo and Kira, and lastly, we ask the question – is "Move Along Home" really the worst episode of DS9? Plus, memories of working with Angela Lansbury in the touring production of "Gypsy," Richard Dean Anderson on two episodes of "MacGyver," Star Trek action figure stories, the obscure "Working Girl" TV show Nana performed in that also starred Sandra Bullock, and more! 14.

Look, this isn't a HOLODECK episode but we had to put in a bad Deep Space 9 ep. And this KINDA counts, right? All the DS9 crew gets sucked up into a 3D Chutes & Ladders game from the gamma quadrant. Can you guess which two holobois actually liked this episode? Hosted by Darius Hamilton-Smith, Dylan Hamilton-Smith and Jan Lefrancois-Gijzen With special contribution by Science Correspondent Lodair! Max Cervantes, Prop Maker on Star Trek DS9, VOY, ENT & Films It's always a happy day on Trek Untold when we chat with a lifelong Trekkie who was able to make their dreams come true. Max Cervantes was a diehard Star Trek fan from day one of the series, building AMT ERTL Enterprise models and building his own phaser hand prop with items he found around his house. Years later, he finds himself working with Michael Moore and Rick Sternbach, making props and models for Star Trek DS9, VOY, ENT, and a few of the TNG Films. Max discusses seeing the original set of Logan's Run, which put him on the path to professional prop-making, working on "Real Genius," "The Stuff," and a story about how the slime went horribly wrong one day, tales of bodybuilder Sven-Ole Thorsen while on "Captain Power," working on theme park attractions like the San Rio park in Tokyo, and more. Then it's time for Trek talk, which includes prop stories from DS9s "The Visitor," "In the hands of the prophets," phaser rifles in First Contact, the hidden origin of props like "The Wrath of Khan" communicator, and up-close looks at some of the props in Max's collections including weapons from the Klingons, Cardassian and the Jem'hadar, Captain Proton's gun from "Star Trek: Voyager," and some secrets about the Orbs of the Prophets, the Move Along Home game, the Borg, ketracel white tubes, the Sword of Kahless, and gold-pressed latinum that you may have never heard before! The senior staff of DS9 skip work to play games while Odo talks to Jake about Bajoran women. Join your whimsically-kidnapped hosts as they discuss rude aliens, "close but not quite earning the cigar" story concepts, and a number of other peculiar aspects of this bizarrely entertaining odd duck of a Deep Space Nine episode. Allamaraine! Spoiler warning! We dive right into a detail-rich discussion of this episode, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet – beware! Next week: Join us as we travel to the sinister Mirror universe in the Star Trek: Enterprise fourth season two parter, "In a Mirror, Darkly" Note that this and all episodes of the It's Got Star Trek podcast contain explicit language and, frankly, an unnecessary amount of offensive content, so the show is intended only for adults and really really cool kids. The command crew of DS9 gets to play real-life Myst and Chief Faux'Brien makes his one and only appearance on the show. We hem and haw on whether or not this is a genuine episode, but come to our senses fairly quickly. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-measure-of-an-episode/message
Welcome to our Rebinge of Star Trek DS9: Move Along Home We've made it to the infamous Move Along Home episode of season 1! Not a terribly popular and historically low-rated episode involving the Wadi from the Gamma Quadrant arriving to play some games. And when they play a game, they REALLY play a game. Move Along Home In this episode, our crew makes official first contact with a new race. The Wadi have colorful outfits and some serious mullets and they are here to play, for reals. They hang out in Quark's for awhile, but when they catch Quark cheating, they open up a game of their own. And then Kira, Sisko, Dax and Bashir all disappear. While Odo is on the hunt for our missing officers, Quark is literally gambling with their lives. Or is he...? Just drink the champagne, you'll be fine. Allamaraine, count to four..." Alamaraine! This is a weird episode, but never fear, James has an over-analysis of why you should love it. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Listen to our intro episode if you want to know a little more about us. And kick off the whole thing with our rebinge of the pilot episode Emissary. Or catch up on the previous episode of S1E8: The Passenger. Next time... We dig into Season 1 Episode 10 of DS9: The Nagus. Be sure and join our Facebook group and Follow Rebinge It on Twitter!
Imagine a game where some of the people are players and some of the people are pieces, but none of the people know about the other people. It is First Contact meets I, Mudd meets A Piece of the Action when we put Move Along Home into the Mission Log. Double their peril, double your winnings by getting in touch with us! On Facebook: On Twitter: On Skype: missionlogpod On the phone: (323) 522-5641 Online: We may use your comments on a future episode of Mission Log.
When an alien delegation from the Gamma Quadrant visits DS9, some of the senior officers are trapped in a game where Quark controls the outcome! And Quark rolls some dice! Widely regarded as one of the worst episodes of the first season, "Move Along Home" is also one of Avery Brooks' least favorite episodes. Clay joins me to discuss games without rules, improv acting, and how to make a story completely pointless. Are you looking for older episodes? Find this and every other episode at The Pensky Podcast! Deep Space Nine season 1 rolls for initiative, but ends up with the dullest D&D campaign ever with Quark as the DM. Meanwhile, Odo is pretty sure the new Starfleet security officer just isn’t going to work out. All that on “Move Along Home”, this week on TOEOST! WARNING: Explicit language From the minds that...
