“It's all the same…only the names will change…” Sometimes, just like with “identical” twins, identifying the differences between subgenres can be difficult. Sure, they may seem the same, but there are subtle differences between the two that make them unique as individuals. Similarly, as with the “speed metal vs thrash metal” debate which has persisted since the 80's, so continues the everlasting debate between Stoner and Doom metal: Are they the same? Or are they different? And if they ARE different, then WHAT is the difference? In short, both Stoner AND Doom metal trace the source of each of its respective origins back to Black Sabbath, with each possessing an arsenal of crushing riffs, tuned down guitars, and slow, heavy, trudging tempos. But if there were a single distinction to draw the line between these two subgenres, then that line has to be within the lyrical subject matter, as shown by the following logic*: IF drug references, THEN stoner metal. IF not, THEN doom metal. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of Nerdery off shoots, including the forthcoming (as yet to be started) “Angry Matt” podcast, prepare for our upcoming “Bon Jovi album dive”, stick around for our sandwich segment on “Sandwich Nerdery”, including a rant-filled accusation against a former sandwich giant who was wrongly accused of wreaking gastrointestinal havoc with their “muffalotta” and JOIN US as we attempt to get to the heart of the matter at hand with STONER DOOM METAL VOL. 7: THE SEARCH FOR DOOM *While we're well aware that this is not an exact science and our logic may seem a tad “dirty sloppy”, it's the best we could do given the circumstances. A look at Satanism and humanism, their similarities and more importantly their differences. Though to do that, we'll have to first unpack some bigger topics, such as what makes a religion a religion in the first place. Also, some listener mail about Satanists and social media, as well as Satanic baptisms. 00:00 - Intro 01:21 - The Satanic Bible: "Humanism is not a religion" 02:27 - Satanism is a religion. Non-theistic religions exist. Yes, really. 05:16 - Atheism is not a religion. Neither is monotheism. 06:18 - Dogma: Why the Boy Scouts is not a religion 08:32 - The Dogma of Satanism 10:44 - What do we mean by "Humanism" / Renaissance humanism 13:27 - Secular humanism 15:33 - Similarities: Atheism and Freethought 17:24 - How Satanism and secular humanism differ (myth of "The Greater God", etc.) 29:09 - Satanists on (or aren't on) social media 33:40 - Satanecdote: Spam from da Hood 35:35 - Getting a Satanic baptism 40:22 - Bill M. is Marq Torien?
Let's set the stage. It's 1988. The airwaves are buzzing with the high-octane sounds of Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, and Bon Jovi. MTV is our go-to for the latest music videos, and hip-hop is making serious waves with N.W.A. and Public Enemy dropping game-changing albums. We're quoting Die Hard, laughing at Beetlejuice, and tearing up at Rain Man. TV's got us hooked on Roseanne and The Wonder Years. The Berlin Wall is still up, and the Cold War is real, but there's a rebellious buzz in the air.Does this album bring back good vibes?

Stone Senate has been called “a heavier version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, crossed with The Allman Brothers Band”. While being mentioned in such heady company is flattering, it is important to note Stone Senate is most definitely not a retro act. They are taking what came naturally from their collective influences a step further and making a name for themselves in the world of modern country rock. The band is fronted by vocalist/ guitarist Clint Woolsey's smoldering, soulful vocals and unmistakable stage presence. Ira Black Joins The Slimy Bastards Podcast Show - Episode 1
Time to get those lighters in the air, Slackers! From the late 80's into the early 90's, there was no shortage of amazing live music. The “hair” bands of the time were hitting on all cylinders, with live shows rivaling anything that came before or since. With the bands from the Sunset Strip already used to the competitive nature of the music industry, opening acts would try to outperform the headliners - and more often than not, the headliners would take that challenge head on. Sometimes the opener, with less staging, less lighting, & less people in the crowd, would absolutely destroy the headliner! However, if you ever saw Mötley Crüe on the Dr. Feelgood tour, you know that no opening act was touching them live! While my memory is awfully hazy 36 years after my very first concert, this is my best recollection of all the tours that I was able to catch during my early to late teens. What a glorious time for rock music!

On the 41st Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 self titled debut album, "BulletBoys" BulletBoys were led by trio of ex-King Kobra members, guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vencent and lead singer, Marq Torien. The band added drummer Jimmy D'Anda. The band drew a lot comparison to Van Halen, due to them signing with Warner Brothers, their first album being produced by legendary Van Halen producer, Ted Templeman and the lead singer Marq Torien's style which resembled David Lee Roth. The Van Halen influence along with ACDC was evident as well in the music. The debut album led by singles, Smooth Up In Ya and For The Love Of Money, which were heavily played on MTV pushed the album to gold status. Torien's unique look and style and his amazing voice also brought attention to the band. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 39 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Sonny's pick as if anyone couldn't tell So give us a taste kissin' kitty or its one, two F You! Transmission 1991: Danger! Danger! The Dinosaurs are at severe risk of extinction unless they can quickly evolve into a down-tuned, depressed, dirgy, dirty, flannel-wearing anti-dinosaur! Living fossils that once rocked stadiums with shredding guitars, spandex, lipstick, and hair spray have purchased wah-wah pedals and must sing about something other than their love pumps! Listen with extreme caution, as they will surely collapse under the weight of their folly. You have been warned... Whatever…What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This time around we are bringing you the most lost of the lost. These are songs and albums by artists you know that the artists themselves have tried to lock away and bury! This is the continuation of our series that explores what happens to the dinosaurs when they attempt to follow trends…Songs this week include:BulletBoys – “Diss” from Acid Monkey (1995)Union – “Heavy D” from Union (1999)Royal Jelly – “House” from Royal Jelly (1994)Extreme – “Tell Me Something I Don't Know” from Waiting For The Punchline (1995)Bang Tango – “My Favourite 9” from Love After Death (1994)Tigertailz – “Wazbones” from Wazbones (1995)W.A.S.P. – “Kill Fuck Die” from K.F.D. We talk to Marq Torien - Singer Songwriter & Frontman for Hollywood Hard Rock band BulletBoys. Marq's journey is much more than that of many who came to the Sunset Strip to live out their rock and roll dreams. Growing up in Montebello, Los Angeles to a music rich family, Marq's talents would be spotted early on and it would set him on a path not just in hard rock but also with Motown, R&B and Pop. We chat about his time working with El Debarge, meeting Van Halen, auditioning for Ozzy Osbourne, performing with RATT and even singing for Sylvestor Stallone on the Rocky IV Soundtrack. There is way too much for just one episode but we try our best to give you a taste of one of the Hollywood Rock Scene's most colourful characters to this very day.
