Andor S2 is over, but not for us! We continue to celebrate this monumental series as we delve into topics or characters we didn't have enough time to discuss during our regular coverage. Today we discuss everyone's favorite anarcho-rebel, SAW GERRERA, and the unsung hero: the ISB double-agent, LONNI JUNG.In a field full of heroes, these two stand out for their unconventional approaches to rebellion. While Saw's bombastic and "chaotic" approach to his fight of the Empire drew enemies within allies, Lonni's quiet and ultimately quiet contributions to the Alliance cannot be overstated. Along with Nemik's call to rebellion through his manifesto, these two characters' sacrifice will always be remembered!• • •Triad of the Force is a channel which was featured on the Podcast Stage at Star Wars Celebration 2022 and 2023, featuring Nani and Gus, lifelong Puerto Rican friends who after years of discussing the media they love, came together and created their show. On this episode, Dominic, Hannah, and Ben break down the series finale of Andor, analyzing the last three episodes, “Make It Stop,” “Who Else Knows?,” and “Jedha, Kyber, Erso.” They talk about the new insight we got into Luthen and Kleya's history, the highs and lows of the life of Dedra Meero, the great director Krennic, and the proper introduction to K-2SO. They also talk about how Cassian's story wrapped up on the series and interfaces with what we saw in Rogue One. Plus, the politics of the Rebel Alliance, the issues with the second season's structure, and the return of Nemik's manifesto. All this and much more! This week, I put together an essay I've been dying to make for well over a year. This is about Star Wars: Andor and whether or not the show supports a Marxist lens on freedom in a galaxy far, far away.Star Wars fans online had a field day with the words and deeds of one character, Nemik, who not only writes a “manifesto” for the Rebellion but also wears in Ushanka-style hat. Naturally, this got the Tankies (online communists) a little excited. In this video essay, being previewed FIRST for email subscribers to Geeky Stoics, I lay out why Nemik isn't very Marxist. I begin with an assessment of his views on Self-Reliance, then turn to Andor's nod to Natural Rights doctrine. And I conclude with my view on why Stoicism fills in the gaps left by political ideologies that claim to free mankind.I would like your feedback in the comments section before launching this on YouTube. Any fat that could be trimmed or argument that can tightened up, I'd like to hear about it!A beautiful excerpt from Nemik's ManifestoThere will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.Remember this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause.Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empires's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.Remember this: Try.Thanks for reading Geeky Stoics! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. This is a public episode. Andor is a show that loves grassroots revolution. And we love that for Andor. “The Axe Forgets” takes us deep into the psyches of the people choosing to rebel against the Empire. We have Skeen, from whom the Empire took a childhood (and a brother). And we have Nemik, a true, hotblooded philosopher-rebel. And we have Lieutenant Gorn, who lost his love to Imperial control—and, of course, Cassian, who has a million mysterious reasons to hate the Empire (very few of which have been shown on-screen). In this week's recap, we talk about rising up against tyranny, the claustrophobia of group projects, what seeds Star Wars is sowing for its grand, future rebellion—and what it costs you to rebel. Note: AC & Matt believe every worker deserves a union. We express solidarity with striking WGA workers everywhere, but especially on the production of season 2 of Andor. Andor is a story about workers being subjected to oppressive and uncaring systems. It is the powerful writing behind this story that moved us to make this episode. The production team should heed the values of its own show and shut down filming of season 2 while WGA members are on strike. The Disney content machine should stop standing in the way of its writers - and all workers - getting what they are owed. Andor Season One has come to a conclusion and we explore the ending of the Star Wars show and explain what it means. What does the last line of the show mean and why is the post-credits scene so important?www.ATGcast.comPatreon.com/ATGcastFacebook.com/StreamingStarWarsYouTube.com/ATGcast@ATGcastThe Final episode of the epic Disney Plus series Andor has dropped, putting a bow on what may be some of the most compelling Star Wars content ever created. In just a minute I will explain the ending – both of them – and talk about what it means for the future of the series – and the franchise. After all that happens on Ferrix, Cassian has made the commitment to who he is. The show expertly took the time to show the viewer all the elements that converted this street-level criminal, to the future hero of the Rebellion. He saw the willingness of the Corpos (an extension of the Empire) to literally blow up his home town to stop him. The oppression of local culture on Aldahni to drive the Impreial machine. The manifesto written by bright eyed idealist Nemik tells him that he is not alone. The brutality by the Empire on Narkina 5 all working to keep that machine rolling while dehumanizing every prisoner. Then the final moment was the death of his rebellious mother in parallel with his own experience with the tyrannical Empire. As Brasso told Cassian on behalf of Maarva: He was already burning. He was just the first spark of the fire. He knows everything he needs to know. And feels everything he needs to feel. When the day comes he will be an unstoppable force for good. There are almost too obvious of equivalence to Poe's “we are the spark that lights the fire” speech in The Last Jedi. But these were the words that truly converted Cassian.
This is the Way Podcast's 101st episode is out on the third anniversary of the first ever post. A lot has happened since that preview of coverage of The Mandalorian. There's no real fanfare for this one. I didn't know what to expect on episode one, but now I've settled in to what it's like to podcast about a show I'm truly enjoying and if you're a listener, thank you! If you're not, well, then...you like reading the "show notes" I guess, huh? Episode 10 of Andor is a "capper" for what is really a four story arc, dating back to mid-October's episode 7. Back then, I was foolish to think that Andor would need some help out of prison and it would be quick and we'd get on with the "real" stuff. Little did I know that inside that prison was a greenhouse to grow the seeds of Nemik's manifesto and a little less than 5000 men would hear the clarion call of the rebellion against the Empire. One Way Out? Well, the only way out is to climb. That's certainly what Lonni Jung was doing in the ISB. Climbing the ranks. With help, it turns out. Luthen hasn't called in many favors it sounds like, but the new girl dad wants out. No dice. NO WAY OUT for you Lonni. You keep climbing though. With any luck, you'll steer the ISB off the right path, should they ever find it. Please continue to congratulate us this week on all the social media. After its first three episodes launching Cassian's character journey, Andor quickly propels him into a plotline drawn from his ultimate fate in Rogue One: a risky heist from a secure Imperial facility that plays a crucial role in the fate of the Rebellion against the Empire. In this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester examine the fourth through seventh episodes of Andor and break down what the heist storyline means for all of the key characters in the series. For Cassian, his interactions with the other six members of the heist team teach him important lessons about himself, the possibilities for his future, and the personal and galactic nature of rebellion. As we had speculated, he ends the heist still unwilling to commit to the Rebel cause – but his return to Ferrix and his tourism to Niamos quickly show him that Nemik was correct: the pace of the Empire's oppression has outpaced his ability to comprehend it. In the Imperial subplot, the success of the Aldhani heist changes the opportunities and possibilities for Dedra Meero and the ISB. In the Rebellion subplot, it reinforces that the price of rebellion will not only be personal for Luthen Rael and Mom Mothma, but also galaxy-wide as the Empire cracks down. Amid her political struggle against tyranny, Mon faces another kind of oppressive environment at home. It's nothing but praise for the midseason finale of the prequel series, and we all agree it's already an instant Star Wars classic. We break down the masterful execution of the Imperial Payroll Heist, celebrate one episode-wonder Commander Jayhold, mourn the loss of our beloved Nemik, and praise the badassery of Cinta and Vel. Elsewhere, we express our disapproval of Skeen's betrayal, and contemplate whether Cassian was right or wrong to kill him off. But most importantly: will Andor read Nemik's manifesto? We explore all of this and more on this week's episode! The best keeps getting better, but we hear the commentary from fellow podcasters and fans about this being a slow burn. One prominent YouTuber even warned that a "slow burn" is fine as long as it doesn't turn into a "no burn" kind of show. I think next week is going to bring all the action we can handle emotionally. In the meantime, more set up, more characters filling out backstory, and more reasons to mourn the ones that won't make it off Aldhani with the credits. Who is Uncle Harlo? Is it Partagaz? Is Dedra going to get stopped before she starts again? Will Syril be able to eat his blue and brown crunchies in peace or will his mom keep needling him? Who makes it out alive only to die on the transport next week? Sorry...we're used to heartache when we see guys like Nemik talk about their manifestos and showing off cool old technology that looks like a polaroid camera. What's that? Oh, I'm sure that's happened before, hasn't it? Listen closely toward the end of this week's podcast episode for another note about where you can help Southwest Floridians affected by Hurricane Ian's devastating impacts. The Axe Forgets but Breaking Canon remembers, at least when it comes to breaking down the latest episode of Andor. We discuss Nemik's navigational tool that looks suspiciously like a polaroid camera, and contemplate how many extra credits Luthen would have to kick in for Cassian to read Nemik's manifesto. Elsewhere, we celebrate the explosive dining room scenes that feature latest Andor MVP's, Karn's mom and Mon Mothma's daughter. So fix yourself some space cereal and blue milk, and enjoy the latest episode of the Breaking Canon Podcast! Star Wars: Andor's first three episodes are a smashing success in the opinion of This is the Way Podcast. What would our show name have ended up being if this was the first Disney Plus Star Wars show instead of The Mandalorian? Showrunner Tony ("Toe pick!") Gilroy turned things over to his brother Dan ("The Man") and dialogue and action are still in good hands for the second trio of episodes, or so it would seem. Is there anyone Stellan Skarsgard couldn't act opposite and make it feel epic? Cassian, Vel, Mon Mothma...even shopgirl and rebel wrapper Kleya Marki all end up feeling like rising stars in the alliance. Meanwhile Major Partagaz brings us into the inner circle of the Imperial Security Bureau and we get to see what a career minefield the boardroom can be. Meero and Blevin are both terrific opponents on the same side. Karn didn't get demoted if we heard right, but he DID have to go home and face mom. A slap and a hug...sending mixed messages never hurt so comfortable. Oh and the rebels on Aldhani? Skeen and Nemik? Vel and Gorn? Taramyn and Cinta? Star Trek names aside, these are the most lovable merry men going on a suicide mission we can remember. We will miss them when they all die horrible, seemingly meaningless deaths. Episode 5 probably picks up where we left off, but here's hoping we don't get a cliffhanger with the team stuck inside the Aldhani garrison. Maybe just show us the Day of Days dinner party on Coruscant with some familiar faces and show us the lead up to the mission? I mean, there's a lot happening and more than 3 character arcs, so give our hearts a week to prepare for everything to go wrong. Listen closely toward the end of this week's podcast episode to hear where you can help Southwest Floridians affected by Hurricane Ian's devastating impacts. Host Steve and his family are fine, but there are so many people who need your kindness. There's a safe place to donate with the State of Florida's disaster fund. It is upsetting to know there WILL be people scamming others out of money because of this crisis.
