Norman Baker was an entrepreneur, a pioneering radio personality, and a fake doctor. He was a masterful propagandist, and through his radio station and multiple tabloid publications, he manipulated American anxieties about everything from politics to alleged ills of vaccinations. But his biggest claim was that he could cure cancer, in just six weeks, with his own elixir -- and your money.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My first interview with Yogi has been my most downloaded and listened to podcast so far. It resonated with so many different people and received so much positive feedback I was excited that he agreed to do a part two.     In this episode I talk with Yogi about some of the most influential people from my youth that came from Highland Park such as Ricky Williams, Charles Steel, Titus Fisher as well as others. Highland Park was the name of the local recreation center that served as the hub for everyone who grew up in East Dago ( City Heights).  We would meet there for everything from playing carroms, ping-pong, strike-out, basketball in the cage, tackle football, dice games to the legendary blues brothers setting up their turntables and playing music in the summertime.    We also broaden our discussion to include some of the legends from other neighborhoods throughout the San Diego area. Yogi's impressive basketball career at Hoover High led him to friendships with many of the other great San Diego athletes like, Percy Gilbert, Carl Fisher, Tyrone Miller, Lawrence West, Norman Baker, Sleepy Caldwell and many others.    Since some of these stories and memories took place nearly 40 plus years ago there were a couple of details that I'd like to correct. Percy Gilbert is 5 years older than Yogi, not 5 years younger.  And his Hoover High teammate's name was Mike Hyatt not Mike Haupt.

After being sent to prison for mail fraud, the hospital was left abandoned for years. It's now a fully functioning hotel and spa, but you may run into a ghost or two during your stay.

This week we go back in time to explore the very mysterious history of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Situated in the Ozark Mountains and built around a natural spring, the town grew from a (likely fictional) legend of a Sioux princess who lost her sight, only to have her eyes healed by the spring water. Eventually the spring was discovered by white settlers, which of course led immediately to the monetization of the water's magical properties. This tale takes a lot of sharp twists and turns as we follow the construction of a luxurious hotel for all the tourists flocking to get in on the magic, and learn about the many functions of the hotel over the years. From a women's college, to a phony cancer center (complete with a morgue!), we'll find out about the ghostly residents whose spirits are still roaming the halls of the building over a century later. We end the episode with some delicious sugar cookies made by Elise! Happy Haunting!

Norman Baker, described by our host, professor Nutt, as “the first and last truly honest politician” is a Liberal Democrat and former MP for Lewes in East Sussex. Following three years as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Transport he was promoted to Minister of State at the Home Office in 2013. However, rejection of many of his progressive suggestions including ones on drug policy e.g. legal use of medical cannabis for pain relief in cancer and multiple sclerosis patients, lead to his resignation from this position in 2014. Now, he advises the campaign for better transport in the UK and makes his voice heard by having authored multiple books including his autobiography “Against the Grain”. It’s been a while since the British monarchy was so front and center in our consciousness. The Crown, on Netflix, and Meghan and Harry have pulled back the curtain on the sometimes romantic notion of royalty. But more importantly, it’s also given us a look into what’s been called The Firm or The Institution, the British monarchy and its wider political economies of wealth and power. Because behind the scenes is simply a corporation, engaged in capital accumulation, profit extraction, labor relations, national and international finance arrangements, and a network of legal status, all of which converge with, and impact on, contemporary Britain. Prince Philip, the husband of the Queen, and the Duke of Edinburgh, is quoted to saying back in 1969 that “It’s a misconception to imagine that the monarchy exists in the interests of the Monarch. It doesn’t.”, he said “It exists in the interest of the people.” In fact, history tells us that nothing could be further from the truth. The monarchy is more precisely, in the words of the late Christopher Hitchens, “What you get when you found a political system on the family values of Henry VIII.” To bring all of this in perspective, I’m joined by the right honorable Norman Baker. Norman Baker was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2015, and established a reputation as one of the most persistent parliamentary interrogators in the modern House of Commons.    His most recent book about the British monarchy entitled ...And What Do You Do?: What the royal family don’t want you to know In his spare time, he’s also an established singer-songwriter and has released three albums.   My WhoWhatWhy.org conversation with the Right Honorable Norman Baker:

Dusty Rainbolt on WPET Talk Radio Dusty Rainbolt knew she wanted to write about The Fantastic since she was a nine-year-old geek sitting in Mrs. Fleir's third grade class. In an assignment reminiscent of the “What I Want for Christmas” theme from the movie A Christmas Story, Mrs. Fleir instructed her class to write a short story. When all the other kids were devising schemes to self-inflict hand injuries or attempt to launch their penny pencils as far north as Saskatchewan, Dusty took another approach. She set her imagination free and introduced her readers to two children who befriended an amiable alien. Sound familiar? While Dusty has never received compensation from Steven Spielberg for stealing her idea, that short story unleashed her desire to take people to her own fictional worlds and provide them with a fright, or even a laugh or two. Her latest novel, Death Under the Crescent Moon, was inspired by the numerous trips she and her husband took to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. While staying at the haunted Crescent Hotel, she learned about Norman Baker, an eccentric tycoon, who in 1936 transformed their favorite hotel into a cancer hospital. Legends about Baker and his alleged atrocities circulated and the investigative reporter in Dusty was determined to separate truth from myth. She spent years (and a boatload of money according to husband Weems) researching Baker, his cancer cure and his trial. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

https://youtu.be/9z9uvl23YH4 In today's show, Todd Langford joins us to dig deeper into Indexed Universal Life. He is the CEO and developer of Truth Concepts financial calculators, better known as a financial Truth Teller.  In this valuable conversation, we uncover the fundamental uncertainty of indexed universal life insurance further.   Recently, we had a conversation about the risks of Indexed Universal Life.  I know this isn't a popular view.  Indexed Universal Life policies appear attractive because of the widespread perception of their safety and growth rate.  That's why it's more critical than ever to talk about the warning lights to ensure you have the information to make the best decisions. Because it doesn't matter how great something looks on the outside.  If it's just a façade, but the structure is unstable, wouldn't you want to know?  If these policies start great, but decline and grow progressively weaker with time, wouldn't that be something you'd like to know upfront?  Imagine buying a car, if you drove it off the lot in pristine condition, but the breaks, the axle, the engine, and even the body of the car started to deteriorate rapidly.  If it was known that the car's useful life was uncertain at best, and the engine and breaks had a 50% chance of weakening to the point of making the car undrivable in 3 years, wouldn't you want to know? The reason that we're going to this length is that if it was just an opinion, it wouldn't matter all that much.  But the way to know if something is financially sound is to foretell its future mathematically.  And there's no one more qualified to do that than Todd Langford. Where Life Insurance Fits into the Cash Flow System Life insurance is a critical part of your financial life.  However, it's just one step in the bigger journey to time and money freedom.  You need all the pieces in place to produce wealth systematically. That's why we have created the 3-step Business Owner's Cash Flow System.  It's your roadmap to take you from just surviving, to a life of significance, purpose, and financial freedom. The first step is keeping more of the money you make by fixing money leaks, becoming more efficient and profitable.  Then, you'll protect your money with insurance and legal protection, and Privatized Banking.  Finally, you'll put your money to work, increasing your income with cash-flowing assets. Life insurance is part of Stage 2, protecting the wealth you've built.  Not only does it provide the peace of mind of protection, but it can also be used as your cash flow management system.  That's why it's so important to make sure the policy you use can become a cornerstone of your wealth creation. Who Is Todd Langford? Todd Langford has been at the forefront of financial software development and training for over 33 years.  In 1986, Todd was hired by Norman Baker, a successful financial advisor, to develop calculators that would “prove or disprove” the validity of certain financial strategies.  Since then, he has been “Telling the Truth” and shifting paradigms about all things financial. The calculators gave them a reliable way to compare strategies and test the soundness of ANY financial choice.  Todd has been an advocate of effective financial strategies, regardless of their popularity with Wall Street firms, the media, or investment gurus-of-the-moment.  Todd Langford Conversation Highlights There are no deals in the insurance industry. Everything is a tradeoff between price and risk.  You either have higher cost with lower risk, or lower cost with higher risk.Actuarial science is about property loss.A large risk pool means the insurance company can reduce the cost of premiums for everybody. In finance, the math is often accurate, but wrong, because of the assumptions behind the facts. Usually, financial analysis leaves out the critical piece of the time value of money.

SCALES Tour Manager At the Most Haunted Hotel in America. Location: the 1886 Crescent Hotel. Characters: ghosts. At the highest point in the Ozark mountains, overlooking a village clustered around a legendary healing spring, towers the famous 1886 Crescent Hotel – long recognized as “the most haunted hotel in America.” The legends of the Lady in White, the Girl in the Mist, the flirtatious Irish stonemason, the unfortunate victims of a charming medical psychopath, little Breckie with his bouncing ball, the little girl who fell through the railings have been repeated for decades, along with many other stories, and are currently told nightly on the Crescent ghost tours. A different kind of ghost story collection. Long-time tour manager Keith J. Scales presents a collection of stories that are not told on the ghost tours and have no basis in fact - invented events that might have occurred when these fascinating individuals were alive, or after they moved on. • A young worker who died during the construction of the Crescent Hotel turns up at Crescent College and Conservatory for Women, thirty years later. • A gangster in fear of his life has been hiding out in the hotel since prohibition. • A student died in a fall from an upper balcony – was it an accident, was she pushed, or did something else occur? • A murdered politician sends a newspaperman to the underground city to find his body. • A woman’s arm appears through a wall in an later decade. • A despicable genius, making his fortune from the misfortunes of others, has reasons to distrust those closest to him. • A secret has kept a man waiting for his beloved for a hundred years. • Two lost children make a home in a huge empty building that is not as deserted as it appears. These stories and others are told at various stops on a ghost tour being given by a weary and somewhat skeptical guide. His guests are unruly, his colleagues seem to vanish one by one and the tour grows more bizarre with every stop on the way. By the end of the night, the stories of ghosts, guides and guests have merged into one, and the tour leader’s doubts are forever dispelled. Actor, director and playwright Keith J. Scales, current manager of tours at the Crescent and Basin Park hotels, is a lifelong student of supernatural legend, lore and literature. In his spare time he has written many novels and short stories, soon to be available on Amazon and Kindle. https://www.amazon.com/House-Hundred-Rooms-Tales-Guides/dp/1978086881/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Keith+Scales&qid=1563579757&s=gateway&sr=8-1   BOOK A HOTEL ROOM AT THE CRESCENT HOTEL https://www.crescent-hotel.com   REAL GHOST STORIES ON LINE - EVENT at the CRESCENT http://www.realghoststoriesonline.com

SCARY MYSTERIES - TWISTED TWO's: “The Cresent Hotel & The Hillside Strangler” Tales of hauntings, murder and scary mysteries, Every week Twisted Two's dives into a pair of uniquely terrifying true stories that are worthy of a more in depth look. This week we focus on a very creepy hotel as well as the tale of two cousins with a taste for murder. Get ready for Scary Mysteries, Twisted Two’s - #1 The Crescent Hotel Best known as the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa, this iconic structure has been standing proud on the West Mountain, overlooking the Victorian village of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Designed by Isaac L. Taylor, the 78-room hotel was once a getaway for the rich and famous. Eureka Springs had become a boomtown thanks to the natural "healing waters" found in the area. So People from far and wide flocked into the town and the resort was a great place to accommodate them. But, over time, the guests realized the healing waters of the spring didn't work and so the numbers slowly began to dwindle until they eventually stopped altogether. In 1937, Norman Baker, a millionaire and radio celebrity came in and bought the hotel. He transformed the aged hotel into a "hospital" where he sold various "miracle cures" to his guests and patients. He promised to cure various ailments including cancer and was later arrested but subsequently released for mail fraud. It's estimated Baker managed to pilfer close to $4,000,000 from his sick patients while hastening their death by not giving them proper treatment. #2 The Hillside Strangler: Kenneth Bianchi & Angelo Buono Family members are united by blood but in the case of Kenneth and Angelo, they were united by a strong passion for rape and murder. Known as The Hillside Strangler because they would dump their victims bodies on the hillsides of California, the police knew there were two possible suspects but withdrew the information from the media – hoping it could be used later on in their investigation. One part of the duo was, Kenneth Bianchi. Since he was little, he had always been a troubled child who was described by his adopted mother as a "compulsive liar" and "lazy." After finishing high school he got married to his sweetheart at 17 but left her after just 18 months. By 1977, he ended up moving to Los Angeles, to live with his cousin, Angelo Buono. To give you a little history on Angleo, he was the son of Italian immigrants who at a young age exhibited a perverse preoccupation with sex and by the time he was a teen, he told his classmates he had raped several girls. He was a petty theif theft who later married and impregnated his first wife only to leave her after just one week. He married his second wife, had five children but she left him because he was physically and sexually abusive. It's also believed that during this time he raped his 2-year old daughter. For the third time, he married and had two other children. But this wife also left him citing physical abuse and for raping their child So there were a pair of some of the most haunted and sinister true stories around. The world can be a crazy place and Twisted Two’s is sure to show you why.
