Paid subscribers get full access to my interview with Kathrine Brodsky. The first half of this episode is available to all listeners. To hear the entire conversation, become a paying subscriber here. Cultural critic Katherine Brodsky is an example of what Meghan likes to call “Heterodoxy 2.0.” She's committed to fighting censorship and groupthink but is also mindful of not becoming an ideologue herself. Born in the Soviet Union, she emigrated with her family to Israel and then Canada and is acutely sensitive to signs of creeping authoritarianism. She now lives in Vancouver and writes about a variety of topics, including the arts, technology, and the recently emerging debates about free speech and censorship. In her new book, No Apologies: How to Find and Free Your Voice in the Age of Outrage—Lessons for the Silenced Majority, Katherine recounts her own cancelation event but, more importantly, interviews a range of people—including Katie Herzog, Winston Marshall, Stephen Elliot, and Peter Boghossian, to name a few—who have fallen prey to the online mob. In this conversation, we talk about what can be learned from a cancelation, what has become of the “IDW,” and how to move free speech discourse in a more positive direction, less grievance-driven direction. ** GUEST BIO For over a decade, Katherine Brodsky has covered lifestyle and entertainment stories for works like Variety, WIRED, Newsweek, The Guardian, Esquire, The Independent, CNN Travel, Entertainment Weekly, Playboy Magazine, USA Today, Delta Sky, Mashable, and more. She has interviewed many personalities, including winners and nominees of the Academy Awards, Emmys, Grammys, Pulitzers, Tonys, and even the Nobel Prize. You can read her work at her Substack here. “The best piece of advice is three words: Ask-for-help.” —David Meltzer   Every day, we are faced with decisions which can impact our happiness— what we choose to do with our time, how we react to difficult situations, and what we focus on. At the end of the day, true meaning, abundance, and happiness can only be achieved when we take control of our lives by reflecting on our experiences and practicing gratitude for all that has been given to us. And the key is ascribing the right meaning to them.    In this episode, Daniel sits with Dave Meltzer, the CEO of the renowned Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment agency and co-founder of Sports 1 Marketing to talk about how we can craft the right meaning from our past. From gaining growth, joy, and wisdom through reflection and gratitude to understanding the power of success and wealth, Daniel and Dave will also help us uncover the wisdom and knowledge needed to unlock our fullest potential.   Additionally, they share lessons on putting meaning to our past as well as perceiving abundance, attaining happiness, the two types of ignorant people, being intelligent followers, never apologizing but always utilizing gratitude, and the best advice anyone will ever hear.      Be Inspired! with Daniel:  Website (Makings of a Millionaire Mindset) Website (Daniel Gomez Global) Facebook Facebook Group Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Pinterest YouTube Episode Highlights: 02:07 Mission: Empower a Billion People 05:56 A Lesson From the Past  09:37 Ignorant Arrogance vs Ignorant Humility 17:57 Never Apologize, Show Gratitude   20:15 Ask For Help

She retired from the military as a Brigadier General. Becky specializes in inspirational and motivational speaking, developing leader training programs, leader coaching and mentoring. Becky has provided hundreds of keynote speeches and leadership training to the corporate and academic sectors at both national and international engagements. Becky entered West Point in 1977 with just the second class of women, and was the first person from her hometown to graduate from the academy. She was also the first female graduate of West Point (‘81) to be promoted to General Officer in 2004. Becky served and commanded in combat as the first female Commanding General at the strategic level of leadership in Iraq. In 2007 she received the National Women's History Project award for “Generations of Women Moving History Forward”.In this episode of the WPAOG Network Podcast, Becky talks about how she enjoys being a leader and why she sees herself as a role model for both men and women. Becky explains how her time at West Point and in the military provided her with many important skills and experiences that are transferable to the work she does today advising businesses on how to be better. She also gives insight on some of her proudest moments in the military and why it is important to be an honest, open, and direct mentor to help others succeed in the military and life thereafter. -----------"You should be comfortable wanting to surround yourself with really good people. I mean, I worked for some bosses who they were intimidated by other people that were good and I'm like, I pray to be surrounded by great people, right? Like, I mean, I'm not intimidated by other people being better, smarter, faster than me. I want them on my team. But I also want people on my team that think differently, you know, I don't want my team to look just like me. And I had a great boss who said to me, just don't surround yourself with little Becky Halsteads. I was like, what's wrong with little Becky Halstead sir, you know? And he says, you think about it, you'll figure it out. And then I did. Because you know, if I were to just choose all women to work for me and you know, all white women to work for me, then I wouldn't get the diversity of thought and experience and culture and all the rest of that. So it's like no pick people who think differently than me to surround me to challenge my thinking, to challenge our way ahead, you know, and then I have to be wise enough and smart enough to discern what's best if I'm the one that's in charge to move us forward." - BG (R) Rebecca S. In Working With the Law, Raymond Holliwell says that “God does not give us the spirit of fear, but of courage and a sound mind.” Fear is not a bad thing, but we don't want to be controlled by it. Instead, we want to be led by our desire. We must not make decisions based […] The post The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 512 – Never Apologize for What You Desire appeared first on Successful Mind Podcast.

I want to share something that happened to me when I was at university. Something I think we often do, especially as women, is apologize for ourselves. I was at university overwhelmed by ‘imposter syndrome' because I was already 40 when I studied Journalism in Columbia University. I felt like I didn't really belong, as a 40 year old going back to school after having been out of school for so long.  All of the people in my class have all been journalists at stations and networks and have won awards. I was there, and I didn't even know quite honestly how to use a camera in manual mode. I felt completely like a fish out of water, and I think that showed to this particular professor. His name was Professor David Klatell.  In this one particular class, he asked a question. And I remember thinking to myself, “I don't want to be the only one looking around the room,” and thinking that I don't want to be the one who's seen as the teacher's pet. Professor Klatell could see that I wanted to respond, so he called me.  I said, “Well, I want to respond, but I want to give everybody else a chance.”  In that moment, he said, “Does everybody else have a tongue and can they speak? Can everybody else raise their hands if they have something to say? So what makes you think that you need to police them when they can speak or when they cannot speak? If they want to speak, they'll raise their hand and they will speak.”  He then said something that was so profound to me that has stayed with me.  He said, “Never, ever apologize for showing up fully as yourself. Never apologize and make yourself small to make other people feel comfortable. Never apologize for taking up space. Anytime you find yourself in a room that you want to be in, know that you belong there. It doesn't matter how you got in the room, the fact that you are in the room means you belong.”
