DescriptionWhat if the true measure of success in missions wasn't how much you built—but what continued after you left?In this episode of The Lasting Change Podcast, hosts Michael Proctor and Danielle Kelly sit down with Brandon Weidman, Director of Development at One Collective and the founding catalyst of the organization's work in Nicaragua. Brandon shares how a short-term mission trip turned into a long-term commitment—and how that commitment sparked a sustainable model of ministry that continues to grow today. From launching a chicken farm and a coffee company to empowering local leaders and navigating political unrest, Brandon walks us through the challenges and lessons of building something that lasts. Now, as the Nicaragua team prepares to expand into a neighboring city, they're looking for the next catalyst—a leader ready to live in the community, build relationships, and help shape the next chapter of holistic, sustainable transformation.Whether you're in ministry, missions, or just passionate about doing good in a healthy, sustainable way, this episode offers real-world insight into how lasting change actually happens—and how you might be part of it.In this EpisodeHow short-term mission trips led to long-term community transformationThe story behind the founding of One Collective NicaraguaWhat it looks like to empower local leaders and avoid dependencyHow a chicken farm, coffee company, and a pineapple farm became tools for changeWhat “kingdom calculus” is—and why 1 + 1 can equal 3How the catalytic model works, and what it means to be a catalystWhy Papagayo, a remote pineapple farm at the edge of a jungle, might be the perfect launching pad for the next wave of changeHow YOU (or someone you know) might fit into this story of growth and lasting impactAbout the GuestBrandon Weidman is the Director of Development at One Collective, where he leads global fundraising efforts and champions sustainable, community-driven change. Guest: Doug Landro | Julian Gibb interviews Doug Landro with One Collective in Ukraine. Doug says, "I lead an alliance called the Transform Uzhhorod Alliance here in Ukraine. It's made up of 14 churches and Christian organizations, plus another 26 local churches, and we all work together. I got on the phone with our different partners, and said, 'Would you open up your place to refugees?' And that's what we've been doing." Doug goes on, "I was once told by a Sunday School teacher in the 5th grade, 'God can steer a moving car'. The lesson he was teaching us young people was just follow Jesus and he will steer you in the direction He wants. That's what happened is that we opened centers, started getting them food and taking care of humanitarian needs. Then medical needs with medical teams, and transportation needs to drive them to their contact on the other side of the border without them getting trafficked." Doug tells many stories in Ukraine, including trauma care, caring for families and single men. Doug says, "We're seeing people coming to Christ, and racism coming down..." www.ukrainecollective.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Guest: Doug Landro | Julian Gibb interviews Doug Landro. Doug, who is in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, speaks about the effects of the war, and how the church is rising up. "It breaks my heart to see a little girl with her name, birth date and some telephone numbers marked on her back. The reason for that is Mom and Dad didn't know if they would survive." Doug, as a catalyst for One Collective, in 54 communities around the world, is working with Transform Uzhhorod Alliance with 14 churches in the area, caring for internally displaced people fleeing the war-torn areas in Ukraine; "We're probably the safest region. We have not had one attack anywhere within our region. We're blessed with that... so many people are heading this way." He continues, "It takes $2,400 per day to take care of 526 people in eleven centers in our alliance." Doug says, "You say, 'how can you fund that?’ I don't have that funding, but God has always provided." Doug continues, "Not just on food, but beds, shower facilities, refrigerators, washing machines and dishwashers for the centers, so that displaced people can stay. Now we have shifted our focus away from temporary housing to permanent housing, and are raising funds to build tiny homes to house a family of four for $10,000." ukrainecollective.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
