RPGs go out of print for many reasons. Is it a good idea to buy an RPG that will be going "Out Of Print"? Saul and Jolene discuss the idea of buying RPG books that will be going out of print. There are many reasons that a gamer might want to play RPGs that will no longer be printed. Saul comes up with 3 different reasons why someone would buy a game that will no longer be supported and Jolene picks which one is Saul. As always thanks for listening. Almost every famous author—Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, Toni Morrison, Marquez and many before and after them—has written memorable short stories. The short story has long been celebrated as an important part of literature, and in my view any effort to defend it as such is unnecessary. My guest today is Indira Chandrasekhar—a writer of short stories. She is also a scientist and the editor of Out Of Print, a literary magazine.I have known Indira for many years. We were in college in Bangalore, at about the same time. But the similarity ends there.Indira made something of college. She went on to a doctorate in science and became a bio-physicist, like Jagdish Chandra Bose or James Watson. But evidently, she likes what I do, more.So she quit messing with membranes and macromolecules and about 12 years ago, she started a literary magazine called Out Of Print.Out Of Print is published once in three months, online. Each issue carries fewer than 10 short stories, with a focus on writing from the Indian sub-continent.Carefully curated, every one of the short stories in each issue is a tribute to craft, skill and style.A 10th anniversary anthology of Out Of Print is available in bookstores and was a delight to sink into. As was her book of short stories, Polymorphism—that passage you heard in the beginning was Indira reading from this book.To discuss science, literature and the polymath nature of old Bangalore, it is my pleasure to introduce my friend, Indira Chandrasekhar, to The Literary City With Ramjee Chandran.ABOUT INDIRA CHANDRASEKHARDr. Indira Chandrasekhar is a scientist, a writer, a literary curator and the founder and principal editor of Out of Print, one of the primary platforms for short fiction bearing a connection to the South Asian subcontinent. Indira's short stories have won awards and appeared in literary journals published in different parts of the world. Her publications include, Out of Print : Ten Years – An Anthology of Stories (ed.), Context Books, the literary imprint of Westland Publishing, 2020; Polymorphism, HarperCollins, 2017; Pangea: An Anthology of Stories from Around the World (ed.), Thames River Publishing, 2012. She serves on the councils of the Bangalore International Centre, the International Music and Arts Society Bangalore, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival Mumbai and the G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture Mumbai.Out of Print: Ten Years : An Anthology of Stories: https://amzn.to/37vgqgxPolymorphism: Stories: https://amzn.to/3xxvWmVOut Of Print magazine: http://outofprintmagazine.co.in WHAT'S THAT WORD?! - THE SHORT STORYCo-host Pranati "Pea" Madhav joins Ramjee Chandran in the segment "What's That Word?", where they discuss the history of the short story, and present a trivia section of the shortest stories ever written, such as Hemingway's 6-word novel.WANT TO BE ON THE SHOW?If you have a word, expression or phrase you would like to know more about, we would love to have you join us live on the show. * Mark Armitage back on RSR: Real Science Radio host Bob Enyart interviews long-time friend Mark Armitage on his latest soft tissue discoveries published in a Cambridge University Press science journal, Microscopy Today. Bob welcomes Mark back to RSR after seven years during which time Armitage founded DSTRI, the Dinosaur Soft Tissue Research Institute. Here are three brief quotes from his paper on autofluorescence microscopy of dinosaur bones revealing blood clots. "dinosaur neurovascular bundles travel as a triad of veins, vessels, and nerve fibers, as in other vertebrates." And regarding the Schweitzer iron rescue device, "free iron was unavailable, at least in these... bones." And see all of our RSR programs with Mark listed at rsr.org/armitage. And you may want to listen to the second of our two 2021 Armitage interviews... Paleontology Breakthrough! Now, dinosaur nerve bundles! * 29 Journals, 57 Papers: Mark Armitage is on back-to-back RSR episodes! To date, 29 peer-reviewed science journals have published a total of 57 dinosaur biomaterial discoveries including Nature, Science, Cretaceous Research, Current Biology, Geology, Paleontology, Vertebrate Paleontology, Nature Communications, Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, and PNAS. The many dinosaur and other Mesozoic creatures yielding their original still-soft biological material include hadrosaur, titanosaur, the [ostrich-like] ornithomimosaur, Nodosaur, mosasaur, [bird-like] Anchiornis huxleyi, Triceratops, Lufengosaur, Archaeopteryx, and T. rex. Powerful Google Creation Tool! Multiple Creation Site Search! In fossils from dinosaur-layer and "deeper", i.e. believed older, strata, researchers have discovered flexible and transparent blood vessels and cartilage, red blood cells, starch, many various proteins including beta-keratin, the microtubule building block tubulin, collagen, mollusk shell glycoprotein and dino eggshell peptides and chelating ligands, chitin, the cytoskeleton components actin, tropomyosin, and the related motor protein myosin, and hemoglobin, bone maintenance osteocyte cells, pigment including melanosomes, clearly-seen chromosome-like structures within cell nucleus, DNA-related histone proteins, and powerful evidence for DNA including positive results from multiple double-helix tests including IP and DAPI on fossils from various dinosaurs. And now, thanks to microscopist Mark Armitage, dinosaur nerve bundles! So we invite you to enjoy today's interview with Mark, see his cover story paper in the latest issue of Microscopy Today, a Cambridge University Press journal, and check out all our related programs at rsr.org/armitage! On Season 2, Episode 9 of Hyperlink Radio, Non Wels interviews Out of Print Co-Founder Todd Lawton about the transformative, magical world of books. Out of Print celebrates this literary magic, increasing literacy in the process. Non and Todd talk about the origin story of Out of Print: How a passion for books turned into a successful, mission-driven brand. Through the conversation, specifics are revealed about how Out of Print celebrates a nerd-status love of books while also sparking social progress. If you're a bibliophile then you're in good company! The story of Out of Print is a critical example of how a brand can celebrate its passion while also bettering the world around it. This is what happens when book nerds start a business. The result is pretty awesome. Thanks for listening to Hyperlink Radio! The Cult Following crew is back for Episode #60. In this edition, join Victor, Kirby, Joshua and Jasperino as we chat about XX and horror anthologies. We chat about Star Wars culture and the reaction that the prequels and spin-offs have from the public and why fans feel they own the fandom. We also dedicate the bulk of this episode to a discussion of Ana Lily's Amirpour's latest film The Bad Batch, a polarizing film that most of the crew loved. We chat what we all dug about it and why it should be on your must-see films of the summer. Plus, we chat a bit about BABY DRIVER, SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING, OUT OF PRINT and more on Cult Following

On this episode we travel back in time slightly by catching up with a recent release that just hit DVD and Blu-Ray since the recording in PREDESTINATION, which inspires a look back at two older films about time travel with THE TERMINATOR vs. MINORITY REPORT. We also catch up with a former guest and director of OUT OF PRINT, Julia Marchese, and jump ahead in time to her future plans.
On this episode we predict The Future of Film. To do this, we look back at the 1982 film ROOM 666, and scoff at the failed predictions made by industry titans such as Steven Spielberg. Then we see if Keanu Reeves is the one, with his dangerous investigative journalism in 2012's SIDE BY SIDE where he attempts to find out... just how much of a pompous asshole is Christopher Nolan? But first, Julia Marchese joins us to talk about her new documentary OUT OF PRINT. GUEST: Julia Marchese also talks time travel with us, and allows the podcast version of that by correcting our pronunciation mistakes.
In our latest episode, we discuss Christopher Nolan's latest film INTERSTELLAR. We also talk about Julia Marchese's documentary OUT OF PRINT, TWIN PEAKS, TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME, and not even Kim Kardashian can escape us this time.
