Matty P Radio Presents: Marks v. Pros & Saturday Morning Cereal
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we catch a ride on the Mystery Machine! Launched as a Saturday morning cartoon in 1969, writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears AKA “Ruby-Spears” created the original series “Scooby-Doo, Where are you!” for Hanna-Barbara Productions where it would go on to produce countless cartoon series spinoffs, animated and live action films. Zoinks, that's a tasty Scooby Snack! To help with our Scooby talk we have two Scooby-Doo universe guests, the embodiment of “Shaggy” Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) and a voice of “Velma” Kate Micucci (Scrubs, Garfunkel and Oats) Actor Matthew Lillard first got our attention as the killer accomplice “Stuart” in the hit horror movie Scream. But what Matthew is synonymous for is as Scooby's two legged BFF “Shaggy”. He's the first actor to portray “Shaggy” in the 2002 live action hit Scooby-Doo (written by James Gunn) with the all star cast of Freddie Prince JR.Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardalini. Since that one-screen debut, Matthew has gone on to reprise his “Shaggy” in a live action sequel and voiced the character about 50 more times in various animated movies and shows. Comedian, actress and musician Kate Micucci has 154 IMDB credits. She's funny, cute as a button and plays a wicked banjo! Besides all that, she has voiced “Velma” 18 times going back to 2015 in various animated TV films and shows. Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy The Gent to celebrate one of the greatest cartoons and CU's to have ever graced the small and large screens, Scooby-Doo!
Here's part 2 of our Omnirumour 10th Anniversary Special. On 29th March 2013, the DWO fan site said that 'a classic series related announcement' was coming and hinted that it was missing episodes related. In June of that year, the Bleeding Cool website ran a story suggesting that a large number of missing Doctor Who episodes had been found. Then Ian Levine tweeted about “three tons of evidence”. An e-mail, purportedly from a Radio Wiltshire DJ, but showing signs of mixed authorship was being passed between fans and excitement on the forums reached fever pitch. Lots of rumours were passed around and the number of episodes found was often said to be 90. Finally in October the Radio Times announced that newly-discovered lost Patrick Troughton episodes would be made available for digital download within a week. It was proof, surely, that all the rumours were true? But after The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear were released, that was it. And ten years later we still don't know the truth of it, and people still discuss their theories on forums. There's a name given to all this madness - the Omnirumour. And on the tenth anniversary of it gaining broad publicity within fandom, I'm with two fellow-sufferers - Tim and Giles. We've all spent more time than we care to recount pondering these matters. In this episode of Something Who we'll chew over what we know for sure, what can't be true and some of the things that might be true. And finally give you our personal opinions. What's changed? Everything. Brian Keene says the thing that's changed the most in the years since he sold his first story in 1997 is the rise of the indie press. “The Big Five weren't publishing horror novels in the mid 90s so you saw the indie press grow and blossom.”And now, maintains the wildly successful author of over fifty books, the gap between the Big Five and indie presses hasn't just narrowed, it's disappeared.Keene writes novels, comic books, short stories, and nonfiction, mostly in the horror, crime, and fantasy genres. They have been translated into over a dozen different languages and have won numerous awards. He's mentor to four promising young authors, including Stephen Kozeniewski, the author of the excellent and terrifying Skinwrapper. He has also written for such media properties as Doctor Who, Thor, Aliens, Harley Quinn, The X-Files, Doom Patrol, Justice League, Hellboy, Superman, and Masters of the Universe. From 2015 to 2020, he hosted the immensely popular The Horror Show with Brian Keene podcast. He also hosted (along with Christopher Golden) the long-running Defenders Dialogue podcast.Several of Keene's novels and stories have been adapted for film, including Ghoul, The Naughty List, The Ties That Bind, and Fast Zombies Suck. Several more are in-development. Keene also served as Executive Producer for the feature length film I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday.Keene's work has been praised by The New York Times, The History Channel, The Howard Stern Show, CNN, The Huffington Post, Bleeding Cool, Publisher's Weekly, Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, and Rue Morgue.Keene also serves on the Board of Directors for the Scares That Care 501c charity organization. He's starting his own IP studio.
This week we we remember, rehearse and reboot with guests Daphne Maxwell Reid and Michelle Danner. Everyone remembers Reid as an iconic TV mom of the 1990s, from her three seasons as "Aunt Vivian" on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. And Reid couldn't be more excited when the cast reunited 30 years later for an unscripted reunion special that aired on HBO Max. These days Reid is a Renaissance woman, respected artist, designer and education activist. Daphne is living proof that a passion for creativity and a dedication to hard work can ensure a lifetime's worth of success. And if that weren't enough… There aren't many people who can point to a career full of success as a performer, teacher, storyteller, entrepreneur, and expert. But Michelle Danner can. The legendary acting teacher and co-founder of the Edgemar Center for the Arts and the Los Angeles Acting Conservatory joins us to talk about here craft and her well-established success as a feature film director. Danner's latest film Bad Impulse, is a psychological thriller about family secrets and modern technology. The film won Best Narrative Feature at the International Independent Film Awards and the Best Director Award at the Culver City Film Festival. Join hosts Grim Shea, Marke and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy the Gent as they try to keep up with the icon and the teacher to maybe learn something about the pop-culture that can't stop remaking itself and a little bit about themselves in the process.

Let your spirits be lifted up, up, up and away and join Grim Shea, Marke, and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy The Gent to celebrate these two amazing gravity defying shows and the impact they had on these mild mannered talk show hosts! In this Fanbase Feature, The Fanbase Weekly co-host Bryant Dillon is joined by special guest Hannibal Tabu (co-writer of Humanoids' MPLS Sound, Bleeding Cool contributor) to participate in a thorough discussion regarding Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) in light of the film's 20th anniversary, with topics including the thematic messages of the film, how the film changes the audience's view of Darth Vader, whether the Jedi and The Republic were already doomed to fall at this point in the story, and more. (Beware: SPOILERS for Attack of the Clones abound in this panel discussion!)
This week we scoop up a very special episode of Saturday Morning Cereal with a sweet look at the Catwoman: Hunted (out now on 4k, Blu-ray & digital combo packs). Everyone's favorite felonious feline takes action, adventure and theft to new heights – and with an entrancing anime style – in Catwoman: Hunted, an all-new DC Animated Movie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the jazzy pop film noir feature-length animated film is both visually striking and groundbreaking. Not only is Catwoman: Hunted DCAU's first Catwoman feature but it may also be the first superhero movie to ever present its lead hero Catwoman and co-lead hero Batwoman as LGBTQ+ characters without orientation being the focal point of the story. But the path to LGBTQ+ characters becoming ordinary, we come to learn, is a troublesome straight-line that traces all the way back to the ironic creation of Batwoman herself. Join hosts Grim Shea, Marke and Bleeding Cool's Jimmy “The Gent” as they celebrate this instant classic with three huge guest interviews including writer Greg Weisman (Young Justice, Gargoyles) and the cunning voices of Catwoman and Batwoman themselves, Elizabeth Gillies (Dynasty, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Vacation) and Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, In The Heights).
In this Fanbase Feature, The Fanbase Weekly co-host Bryant Dillon and special guests David Accampo (writer - The Margins, Lost Angels), Hannibal Tabu (co-writer of Humanoids' MPLS Sound, Bleeding Cool contributor), and Tilly Bridges (writer - Killswitch, the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Executive Producer of Pendant Productions) participate in a thorough discussion regarding the first season of The Book of Boba Fett (2021) in light of the series recent release, with topics including the panelists' feelings on the previous iterations of the character of Boba Fett and reactions to his re-invention during the Disney-era of Star Wars, which "book" is being referred to in the title of the series, the debate over the episodes that featured characters from The Mandalorian and very little Boba Fett, and more. (Beware: SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett: Season 1 abound in this panel discussion!)

Though comic book writer Alan Moore has officially finished his final projects and begun a well-deserved retirement from the medium of sequential art, he has also full turned his eye to, among other mediums, film — which, at least in adaptations, has treated him poorly. After a cycle of hometown prequel short films, some of which were gathered in the anthology feature Show Pieces, Moore's collaboration with Northampton director Mitch Jenkins was finally released in cinemas and VOD this fall: The Show. On this episode, I'm joined by comic book/film/TV/pop culture writer Rich Johnston to discuss:- how Moore's influence from film helped his innovative comics work from his career's outset;- what early projects, like his Fashion Beast screenplay, may have taught him of writing for film;- why his best adaptation might be a Justice League Unlimited episode;- and yet, why a string of insultingly stupid adaptations, ones that often completely ignored the source material, soured him on the medium for such a long period, leading to him taking his name off V for Vendetta, the Watchmens, and The Killing Joke.And:- How, by the way of Watchmen's flashback influence on Lost, Moore influenced all modern American television;- why The Show's funny world-building works better with subtitles and rewatches;- how Edgar Wright might have contributed to The Show finished film;- and why the proposal of its prequels, feature, and five seasons (with a pilot written by and those seasons plotted by Moore), leads to the promising prospect of Moore (and Jenkins) mastering the film medium.Rich Johnston is the founder of the Bleeding Cool website, is the longest-serving digital news reporter in the world (since 1992), and is author of The Flying Friar, Holed Up, The Avengefuls, Doctor Who: Room With A Deja Vu, The Many Murders Of Miss Cranbourne, and Chase Variant. He lives in South-West London, works from Blacks on Dean Street, shops at Piranha Comics, is a political cartoonist, and a father of two.The Show is available on VOD.

This week, we take a look at the controversy surrounding the recent X-Men: Gold #1 comic. Muslim artist Ardian Syaf stirred up a lot of anger after including some arguably anti-semitic “easter eggs” in his drawings. To understand what is going on, it helps to know that the messages were in support of a movement against recently ousted Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama. He was charged with blasphemy for criticizing the Koran (although it would appear he didn’t actually do that but we’ll get into that during the podcast). We talk about the whole mess with our guest, Marvel super fan Mark Sherman. Mark also becomes the first guest to answer our new five questions! For more, here’s an article from Bleeding Cool with several relevant links. Also interesting is this piece by G. Willow Wilson, who is also a Muslim. And hey – here’s one of the panels in question.

Ambassador Controversy (Date: 19 December 2016) “There are so many horrible things that are going on in the world, and this is what you're protesting, seriously?” Gadot said about the backlash during a recent chat with TIME. She continued, “When people argue that Wonder Woman should ‘cover up,' I don't quite get it. They say, ‘If she's smart and strong, she can't also be sexy.' That's not fair. Why can't she be all of the above?” Of course, Gadot is not the only baffled by the controversy. Protestors demanded Wonder Woman be removed from her honorary position because some felt it was inappropriate to have a busty white woman carry the torch. However, fans from around the world are now rallying behind Wonder Woman and emphasizing that her beauty in no way negates her inspirational history. Already, there are dozens of online petitions running which ask the U.N. to reinstate Wonder Woman as an ambassador. Over on Change.org, Chloe Behrens has created a petition which asks for Wonder Woman to be reinstated as an ambassador. There was a lot of pressure on me (that I put on myself) that this video be good, so I really hope you guys enjoy this,” UltraSargent wrote. Here's what the ranking had to say about the supervillain flick: “Anticipation was high for the first big-budget movie lead by supervillains. All the signs were good with a cast that included Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie as the baseball bat-wielding troublemaker Harley Quinn. Robbie stole the show and the film helped position her as IMDb's top star of 2016. And while there were naysayers for the film, written and directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad took more than $745 million at the worldwide box office and made it the most popular movie on IMDb in 2016.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/12/20/suicide-squad-is-the-most-popular-movie-of-2016-on-imdb/ The Flash (Season 3) - Official (Date: 21 Dec 2016) Official promo for Flash season 3.5. (Date: 19 Dec 2016) As part of an effort to reach the widest possible audience, The New 52 had downplayed Oliver Queen's left-wing politics. When Rebirth came around, though, one of the things that Percy seemed to be saying was that being a political animal was so engrained in Oliver's persona that removing it left the character missing something that hadn't been replaced. On sale March 15, Green Arrow #19 sees the Emerald Archer and his former sidekick Arsenal going up against...well, it's not exactly explained, but without larger context? It sounds a lot like the Dakota Access Pipeline project. Here's the solicitation text: “Orphaned as an infant and raised on a Navajo reservation, the superhero Arsenal returns to his adopted home to defend it from a violent militia hired by…Queen Industries?! Oliver Queen's company has been up to no good since his supposed death, but Green Arrow is on the scene to make things right. Since the cancellation was announced, fans have been wondering whether it was due to poor sales, or studio sexism towards Wonder Woman. However, the DC spokesperson told the Guardian that though “we loved the book and we were very excited to work on the collected volume”, the studio was concerned about Dillon's public comments about other teams at DC on social media. In a series of now-deleted tweets, preserved online on Bleeding Cool, Dillon criticised the writing in another DC series, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and complained when DC approved future volumes of Earth One while he was waiting to hear about the future of his own series. “It is an unfortunate situation. We tried hard to make it work,” the DC spokesperson said. Everyone does it in Superhero shows might be overplayed. Smallville was the worst about it though. Flashbacks: Share your thoughts Not all is what it seems in Bratva Ollie has to learn to trust Anatoly and Bratva Ollie: This is all about him learning to trust his teams and step up as mayor Diggle In prison - sees vision of Deadshot (nice swerve to make us think he's back due to Flashpoint) Guilt about brother's death Tells Lyla to tell John Jr. that he loves him Doesn't want anyone to break him out of jail Thea Admits to messing up Gets played by reporter Tells reporter that she won't get played again Felicity Tells Ollie that he needs to step up as a leader Is able to teach the team how Ollie works Listens to Curtis and tells Rory Quentin Lance Back on the wagon? Will his stay sober and be effective as deputy mayor? Deputy Mayor - Michelle Called it Curtis Mr. Terrific is his idol Is the voice of reason - tells Felicity she has to tell Rory about Havenrock Suits up - has a “T” for a mask Calls it “The Arrowcave” Wild Dog Goes off on own - “kills” Derek Sampson/Stardust; hurts DA case Realizes trust has to go both ways Artemis Has a mask She's not doing much yet Ragman / Rory Walks away when Felicity tells him the truth Tobias Church In control of the city Prometheus Detective Billy Malone (Felicity's BF) lures Ollie to tell him that Prometheus wants to kill the Green Arrow Bratva Anatoly tells Ollie that he needs Bratva to be his army against Kovar Arrow Cave is canon now! D.A. Adrian Chase Meet for first time Met Ollie 12 year ago - GF went home with Ollie Pleased that Green Arrow got Samson Derek Sampson Cody Rhodes was pretty good. He's small in the WWE world but he and Amell paired up well in fight scenes. Makes you realize in pro-wrestling he might be small but in life he's a big dude CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES Season Episode “A Matter of Trust” (Date:20 Oct 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/20/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-a-ma/ “A Matter of Trust” is the name of a Billy Joel song; Marc Guggenheim is a huge Billy Joel song. The song's title happens to fit this episode's theme. Stardust - Stardust, the name of the drug in this week's episode, has some special resonance for guest star Cody Runnels, also known as Cody Rhodes, the WWE Superstar formerly known as Stardust. Cody Runnels - He's Runnels here, not Rhodes, in the opening credits. That's likely because he doesn't actually own the trademark to "Cody Rhodes," his stage name with the WWE. Since Rhodes's father was Dusty Rhodes, he and his brother took on the family name when they came into professional wrestling. Now that he's no longer a member of the WWE family, he might not have easy access to his actual family's stage name. John Jr, - This is the first on-camera reference to John Diggle, Jr. in Arrow. Last week on The Flash, fans learned that John Diggle, friend and former bodyguard to Oliver Queen, has a son -- and that was a surprise. That's right: Barry Allen's excellent "Flashpoint" adventure through time created the unintended consequence of giving John Diggle a son -- John Diggle, Jr. -- rather than the daughter -- Sara Diggle -- fans got to know after she was born in season 3 of the hit CW drama. Deadshot - Deadshot, a member of the Suicide Squad and the deadly assassin long thought to have murdered John Diggle's brother, showed up in a vision to Dig this week, haunting him for killing Andy himself last season. Susan Williams - Susan Williams is, in the comics, the sister-in-law of Hal Jordan, one of Earth's Green Lanterns. Created by John Broome and Gil Kane in the early days of the Silver Age Green Lantern titles, Susan was a bit of a rabble-rouser then, too; she ended up in a relationship with one of the Jordan brothers while digging around into who Green Lantern was. Falling into a vat of chemicals is similar to the origin of the Joker Adrian Chase - Adrian Chase is introduced this week. The hot-headed, good-looking district attorney is actually better known as Vigilante in the comics.Created during Marv Wolfman's time on the New Teen Titans, Vigilante in the comics is a former New York district attorney who's set on the path of justice after his family is killed by the mob. The CW describes him similarly: Chase is "Star City's new district attorney and an ally of Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who aims to clean up the streets through the legal system." “You have failed this city” make an appearance - like season 1 Lethal Weapon - Stardust burns his arm Terry Sloane - This week, we finally got to see Curtis suit up, going into the field in his Mister Terrific costume for the first time. He hasn't yet identified himself using the "Mister Terrific" name, although he did namecheck Terry Sloane -- the Golden Age Mr. Terrific from the comics -- as his inspiration (and the inspiration for the "Fair Play" jacket he wears). Trope of cool guy walking toward camera with explosion in background Oliver thinking Wild Dog's hockey mask is “cool” is likely a reference to Amell's role of Casey Jones in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.' Curtis calls it the “Arrowcave” ARROW NEWS: Arrowverse Crossover is ‘very, very faithful' to DC's Invasion! (Date: 14 Oct 2016) Marc Guggenheim promises that the crossover will be faithful to the story in the comics. In the comics, the Dominators assemble a coalition of extraterrestrial races to invade Earth, with the goal of eliminating the threat posed by metahumans. Unknown to their allies, the Dominators intend to harness the metagene and create their own army of metahumans. Guggenheim says that the crossover will be “just big, bombastic, huge action.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrowverse-crossover-is-very-very-faithful-to-dcs-invasion/ Who are the Dominators? The Arrowverse crossover villains explained (Date: 15 Oct 2016) This article is a good look at the villains of the upcoming crossover between “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow.” and “Supergirl.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/who-are-the-dominators-arrowverses-crossover-villains-explained/ Arrow's ‘Human Target' synopsis calls in Christopher Chance (Date: 15 Oct 2016) The November 2nd episode is titled “Human Target.” In this episode, Oliver will call an old friend for help. Wil Traval (Jessica Jones) will play Christopher Chance, aka the Human Target, a private investigator and bodyguard who assumes the identities of clients mark for assassination. This is not the Human Target's first TV appearance. Rick Springfield starred as Christopher Chance on a short-lived drama that aired in 1992 on ABC, and FOX aired its adaptation in 2011, which starred Mark Valley (John Scott on Fringe). Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrows-human-target-synopsis-calls-in-christopher-chance/ The Comic Book history of Ragman (Date: 17 Oct 2016) Bleeding Cool takes an in-depth look at the long and complex history of Ragman. Link:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/10/17/comic-book-history-ragman/ ‘Arrow' boss on Diggle's dire predicament (Date: 10 Oct 2016) Diggle will soon discover that Chechnya is the wrong place to find his moral compass, leading to Diggle's return to Star City. Diggle's storyline will carry into episode 12, so it will be a major part of the season. Link:http://www.ew.com/article/2016/10/18/arrow-diggle-arrested-spoilers?xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter Guggenheim reveals Captain Cold's ‘Legends' return, talks ‘Arrow's' 100th episode (Date: 18 Oct 2016) Marc Guggenheim discusses Captain Cold's return to ‘Legends,' which will be in that show's midseason finale, episode 208, but how he returns hasn't been revealed. Also, Cold will be part of the Legion of Doom. The 100th episode of ‘Arrow' promises to be big with appearances by John Barrowman as Merlin and Neal McDonough as Damian Darhk; the 100th episode will also be part of the big crossover, but Guggenheim says that the 100th will be ‘Arrow'-centric. Link:http://www.cbr.com/guggenheim-reveals-captain-colds-legends-of-tomorrow-return-talks-arrows-100th-episode/ DC TV NEWS Michelle Legends of Tomorrow ratings dip for season 2 premiere (Date: 14 Oct 2016) Season two premiere of Legends has suffered a dip, scoring just a 0.6 in the key 18-49 demographic and 1.84 million viewers. However, the show was up against football and MLB's World Series Link:http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-ratings-dip-for-season-2-premiere/ Michelle The Flash EP describes Caitlin Snow's relationship with her mom (Date: 15 Oct 2016) Flash spoiler: In an upcoming episode, we will meet Caitlin's mother, Dr. Tannhauser (guest star Susan Walters), a renowned biomedical researcher. Caitlin will seek out her mother's help as she continues to transform into Killer Frost. Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/15/the-flash-ep-describes-caitlin-snows-relationship-with-her-mom/ Michelle Supergirl EP on whether Cat Grant knows Kara's secret identity (Date: 18 Oct 2016) Article discusses if Cat knows if Supergirl is Kara. It also covers why the writers have backed off from the Jimmy/Kara romance, how Kara's new boss, Snapper Carr is different from Cat, and the tension between Mon-El and Kara. Link:http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-ep-on-whether-cat-grant-knows-karas-secret-identity/ Chris Mirror Master debuts in new Flash promo (Date: 19 Oct 2016) The Rogues are back for next week's episode of “The Flash” — or the “New Rogues,” — as the episode is titled. “Star Crossed” actor Grey Damon makes his DC Comics debut as the infamous Mirror Master. The Top, played by Ashley Rickards, will also be appearing, alongside the very familiar, very missed face of Captain Cold. When Mirror Master and The Top go looking for Cold, they'll run into a little trouble with The Flash and his new speedster-in-training, Jesse Quick. Link:http://www.cbr.com/mirror-master-debuts-in-new-flash-promo/ Chris How Supergirl gets into the Crossover (Date: 20 Oct 2016) The 100th episode will, in fact, be part 3 of that crossover, and executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently spoke to Collider on how Supergirl is fitting in with the Arrowverse. "Last year, Supergirl established that The Flash was able to make his way to what I call Earth-CBS, and it stands to reason that with the proper breach technology, the reverse can happen. Once the heroes realize that they're up against aliens, they decide that they need an alien on their side and, fortunately, Barry knows a really nice one. I don't think it's a big shock that, between Barry and Cisco, and all of their experiences with Earth-2 and the multi-verse, that they can pluck her from Earth-CBS." Link: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/20/how-arrow-episode-100-fits-inside-the-supergirl-crossover/ Chris Mark Hamill Dressed Like The Joker on Flash Set? (Date: 20 Oct 2016) Hamill was spotted on the set of The Flashl ooking decidedly Joker-esque. Considering that Flash is currently exploring an alternate timeline in its "Flashpoint" season, it's possible this is a Joker inspired alternate version of the Trickster. Or maybe, just maybe, many fans will get their wish and finally see Hamill take the role of the Clown Prince of Crime into live action. There is also one based on the White Canary.
