The Analyst Academy is a practical course on the tools and skillsets required to succeed in the buy-side analyst seat. The instructors have experience from firms such as Maverick Capital, DE Shaw, Citadel, Balyasny and ExodusPoint. But what is the Academy NOT? It's NOT a course on stock-picking. It IS a rigorous guide to learning a process. It's NOT a guide to pod shop investing. The Academy attracts a wide range of equity investors, from multi-managers to long only to family offices. Rather than teaching a particular style, Fundamental Edge equips learners with the essential skills required to hit the ground running and support their PM. It's NOT a financial modeling course. Modeling is, of course, part of the curriculum and plays a central role. But the Academy is more than that. It teaches idea generation, thesis communication and how to add value as an analyst. Enrique Abeyta of HX Research rejoins the podcast to discuss his (constructive) views on the stock market, why commercial real estate concerns are overdone, and to provide one stock pick -- and it's not Nvidia, though he does discuss that at some length. Some mature language is used at a few points. Sensitive listeners should be advised.  The guest's microphone setup is significantly better than the host's so don't get discouraged by the host sounding like he's hiding in a cave at the open. Content Highlights Trends are underrated. Many investors don't respect them or understand what they mean. The current trend is clearly long-term bullish for stocks (2:21); However over the short term there could (probably will) be a pull back -- as appears to be happening the week after recording (5:24); On the whole, however, the outlook is very constructive. So constructive that the guest has only seen this clarity 10 times or less in his 30-year career (12:30); When it comes to the Federal Reserve, there is a strong possibility interest rate policy stays roughly the same... (15:36); Contrarian take: there's no need to worry about commercial real estate: (19:00); Regional banks presented an opportunity a year ago. New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) is not an opportunity now (23:54); Views on Nvidia (NVDA): not super constructive (28:20); One long term idea: Independent power producer Talen Energy (TLNE), owner of a nuclear power plant. The company recently emerged from bankruptcy (34:51). More on the Guest Website: HXResearch.net; Twitter/X: @EnriqueAbeyta.

In a May 2023 Kiplinger article, Chris Abeyta, in discussing the transition from asset growth to income and protection, warns us of the “Retirement Hazard Zone” – the four to five years right after the pivotal age of 59½ that can greatly impact the rest of your retirement. In essence, Abeyta cautions readers to take action to protect their nest egg from significant losses while still growing it. Part of this equation deals with the reality that, for some, they need to take income from their portfolio. For others, it's about the need for greater preservation as their mindsets have changed. And for a few, it's about strategic allocation and utilizing diversification to its maximum potential while limiting downside risk in a volatile market environment. Regardless of your situation, on today's show we will discuss the “why” and “how” of the three phases of your retirement journey. Next, Heidi will discuss the IRS RMD (required minimum distribution) waiver for non-spouse beneficiary IRA accounts, as well as a 60-day rollover relief option for traditional IRA RMDs taken inadvertently because of the newly incepted age change to 73. You were probably thinking that no changes were in store after all the adjustments that were made recently, but these are to cover for individuals needing to catch up with the new rules. Last, Nathan, who is filling in for Deann, will give us the best of stats to help us along on the journey and pinpoint more economic and retirement reality.  Tune in and take control!

In a recent article in Kiplinger, Chris Abeyta explains how your retirement journey breaks down into three phases. Phase 2: “The Retirement Hazard Zone,” are the four to five years right after turning the pivotal age of 59-1⁄2. According to Abeyta, this is the time to take action to protect your nest egg from significant losses while still growing it. Part of the equation deals with the reality that for some, they need to take income from their portfolio. For others, it's about the need for greater preservation as their mindsets have changed. For a few, it's about strategic allocation and utilizing diversification to its maximum potential while limiting downside risk in a volatile market environment. “I think it's important to know that you don't need, I guess, like big institutions or a lot of money or a ton of experience even sometimes to accomplish really great things. As long as you're able to really form that partnership and really utilize those around you, a lot can happen.” In this episode, Cynthia Begay is in conversation with Dr. Anthony Fleg, Nicolette Abeyta, and Ashleigh Claw. They discuss their paths in public health, how running fits into cultural practices, and the holistic approach of the program. They walk us through the paper, along with their experiences of being first time writers and trailblazers by conducting research with the Native Health Initiative, which does not typically do research. Episode 18 of With(in) -- Vital Diagnosis -- dives into the intricacies of recognizing and treating mental health issues inside of prison. Associate Producer Sarah Berry and With(in) Co-Host Denise Presson interview Mental Health Supervisor for Denver Women's Correctional facility Ms. Abeyta. They discuss the disparity between the percentage of women versus men seeking help, correctional fatigue and the importance of “filling your cup.” William Davenport, incarcerated in Sterling Correctional Facility, speaks with segment host Brett Phillips about growing up experiencing his mother's mental health issues, and his passion for his role as a Mental Health Peer Assistant, a program created by the Colorado Department of Corrections to provide low-level interventions for incarcerated folks in their time of need. Then, With(in) Music Producer Travis Barnes and Co-Host Denise Presson have a round-table conversation with CDOC staff members; Licensed Professional Councilor Lindsay Wolf and Licensed Social Worker Courtney Sheldon. In it, they disclose the idea that everyone who enters prison, staff or incarcerated, is walking around with trauma, and yet most people don't even know what trauma actually is. Co-hosts Andrew Draper and Denise Presson explore the thought that the stigma of mental health struggles creates complicated spaces in which we tend to judge rather than to offer care.
