Happy Thursday everyone, this is Garrison Hardie stepping in for the Chocolate Knox for Thursday, July 21st, 2022. We’ve got a lot to get to today, so let’s just jump right in shall we? https://www.actionidaho.org/post/mayor-mclean-boise-city-council-make-boise-a-sanctuary-city-for-abortion Mayor McLean, Boise City Council Make Boise a Sanctuary City for Abortion Boise City Council voted 3-2 to approve RES 385-22 limiting the enforcement of Idaho’s abortion ban. The measure directs police to allocate their resources to every other priority in law enforcement but the crime of abortion. Idaho has a state criminal code, passed by legislatures and approved by governors. This code governs the entire state, so that crimes like arson, conspiracies, burglary, bigamy and polygamy, and others are uniform across the state. Each part of the criminal code defines the crime and punishments for each specific crime. Local law enforcement is then charged with enforcing these laws. City police investigate. County sheriffs investigate. District attorneys and county attorneys accuse and prosecute. Judges oversee trials. Idaho’s Criminal Code defines the physician or abortionist guilty of a felony called "criminal abortion" punishable by imprisonment if he or she performs an abortion. On July 19, 2022, Boise City Council passed a resolution to stop Boise city police from enforcing Idaho’s law against criminal abortion. The city council’s resolution holds that “investigations for the purpose of prosecuting abortion providers will not be prioritized, and additional resources or personnel will not be assigned” to crimes of criminal abortion. The city will not cooperate with other entities to enforce Idaho's ban on abortion law either. The City Council is not passing the law because the Boise Police Department is faced with a shortage of resources. The resolution was passed in order to undermine Idaho’s abortion ban, enshrined in its criminal code. Idaho's ban on abortion, the resolution reads, abrogates “the fundamental liberties of its people,” especially the “right to make reproductive health decisions for themselves.” Three members of the city council supported the resolution, while two opposed it (Elaine Clegg and Luci Willits opposed). The move provides sanctuary or a safe place for abortion providers in Boise. While Planned Parenthood has moved its abortion clinics out of Boise (Planned Parenthood’s only Idaho clinics are in Meridian and Twin Falls), the city of Boise’s passage of this resolution opens the door for its return. Other providers could move in as well. In other news… https://hotair.com/allahpundit/2022/07/19/house-passes-gay-marriage-bill-with-47-republicans-in-favor-n483850 House passes gay marriage bill -- with 47 Republicans in favor the “Respect for Marriage Act” (RFMA), which will take you all of 30 seconds to read. It doesn’t create any federal right of gay marriage. Rather, it repeals the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act signed by Bill Clinton and requires states to give full faith and credit to any lawful marriage performed in another state. So if SCOTUS ends up overturning the Obergefell case that recognized a constitutional right of gays to marry, gay couples from red states could get married in blue ones and then demand that their home states recognize the validity of their union under the RFMA. Pelosi’s strategy in forcing the vote is obvious. She’s keen to scare swing voters by leveraging Clarence Thomas’s concurrence in the Dobbs case, where Thomas called for overturning various landmark “substantive due process” cases touching on sexual autonomy, including Obergefell. And she knows that support for legal gay marriage polls remarkably well, which left House Republicans here between a rock and a hard place. If they voted for the bill, they’d be siding with Pelosi and the libs over social conservatives, angering the base. If they voted against the bill, they’d be angering the great majority of American voters. That’s a tough one for a Republican in a swing district. Especially since, according to Gallup’s poll last year, a majority of *Republican voters* now support legal gay marriage as well. A more recent Gallup poll published last month found national support ticking up to 71 percent. Normally a 71 percent issue is easy for politicians, but House GOPers know that it’s not moderates who tend to turn out in party primaries. Because it’s such a knotty dilemma for righties, Kevin McCarthy and his leadership team decided not to whip against the bill. House Republicans were free to vote their conscience, and in this case “conscience” included “whatever you need to do to maximize your odds of getting reelected.” Let’s shift our eyes overseas for a moment… https://americanmilitarynews.com/2022/07/russia-has-lost-50000-soldiers-in-ukraine-u-k-military-chief-says/ Russia has lost 50,000 soldiers in Ukraine, U.K. military chief says Russia has lost some 50,000 killed or wounded soldiers in its invasion of Ukraine and nearly 1,700 tanks have been destroyed, the head of Britain’s armed forces says. But Admiral Tony Radakin told the BBC in an interview broadcast on July 17 that any speculation the losses could bring down the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin was just “wishful thinking.” “As military professionals, we see a relatively stable regime in Russia. President Putin has been able to quash any opposition. We see a hierarchy that is invested in President Putin and so nobody at the top has got the motivation to challenge President Putin,” Radakin added. The British military chief said that, with the setbacks in Ukraine, Russia’s land forces may now pose less of a threat than they did before the war. Along with the losses in personnel and tanks, Russia has seen some 4,000 of its armored fighting vehicles destroyed since its February 24 invasion, according to his estimates. The fund-raiser for the family of dead Minnesota shooter Andrew “Tekle’’ Sundberg, 20, surpassed its goal of $20,000 within three days, hitting $20,500 by Monday afternoon. Yet the GoFundMe page for Alba — who killed an ex-con attacker in apparent self-defense at the store — got pulled a day after his case came to light. Sundberg allegedly fired like a madman Wednesday in his building, including through the wall of an apartment of a mom cooking for her two kids, before being shot dead by cops during a standoff. His family said he was having a mental-health crisis at the time. It’s unclear why police snipers finally shot him dead after six hours of negotiations, but the head of the Minneapolis police union said in a statement last week that “to prevent death or great bodily harm to another, officers used deadly force.” When Black Lives Matter protesters showed up at the young man’s building over the weekend to decry the cops, the fired-upon mom had some strong words… https://youtu.be/n6IbcxbKIL8 - PLAY VIDEO - 0:27 - 1:16 According to Fox News the mother did get an apology from the shooters’ family. A GoFundMe set up by Foss-Yarbrough’s sister for her sibling had raised more than $56,000 by Monday evening. The set goal was $10,000. The page says the gunman who shot into the victim’s home “had been harassing her and stalking her for months.” The GoFundMe for Sundberg’s family says, “His life was taken too soon by the Minneapolis Police Department.” Relatives have retained noted civil-rights lawyer Ben Crump. Meanwhile, the GoFundMe page for Alba — whose supporters run from New York City Mayor Eric Adams to former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton — was yanked nearly as fast as it went up. Alba fatally stabbed an ex-con attacking him behind the counter of the store July 1, an incident caught on video — and which prompted controversial slay charges against the worker. He and his hordes of backers say his actions were clearly self-defense, with the clerk even seen in footage telling his assailant, “Papa, I don’t want a problem.’’ But GoFundMe said in a statement defending the move, “Our terms of service prohibit fundraising for the legal defense of a violent crime. “At this time, the fundraiser has been removed and all donors have been refunded.’’ The page had raised around $20,000 for Alba when it was removed, the Daily Mail reported. GoFundMe told The Post on an emailed statement Monday, “The fundraiser, “T.S. Family Funds”, states donations will go toward funeral, food, and family expenses. “Fundraisers for these types of expenses are allowed under GoFundMe’s terms of service.” Gold River Trading Co. So I’ll have to do… Harbaugh was the keynote speaker at the event that was themed “We Were Made to be Courageous” according to Detroit Catholic. “I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born,” Harbaugh declared during his speech. “I love life. I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. My faith and my science are what drives these beliefs in me. Quoting from Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’” He also discussed the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade and an upcoming ballot question that could enshrine the right to murder unborn children in Michigan’s Constitution. “Passions can make the process messy, but when combined with respect, it ultimately produces the best outcomes,” the University of Michigan coach said. “This process has been passionate and messy, but I have faith in the American people to ultimately develop the right policies and laws for all lives involved. I recognize one’s personal thinking regarding morality of a particular action may differ from their thinking on whether government should make that action illegal. There are many things one may hold to be immoral, but the government appropriately allows because of some greater good or personal or constitutional right.” “Ultimately, I don’t believe that is the case with abortion,” Harbaugh professed. “Yes, there are conflicts between the legitimate rights of the mother and the rights of the unborn child. One resolution might involve incredible hardship for the mother, family and society. Another results in the death of an unborn person.” Harbaugh would also state, “In God’s plan, each unborn human truly has a future filled with potential, talent, dreams and love.” Harbaugh has been outspoken on his pro-life stance in the past. Back in 2020, Harbaugh spoke with Jay Nordlinger on his podcast, where he shared, “Even now, as we all go through what we’re going through now with COVID-19, I see people more concerned about others. More prayerful. As I said, God has virtually stopped the world from spinning. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. “My personal feeling, living a faith-based life, this is a message or this is something that should be a time where we grow on our faith in reverence and respect for God. You see people taking more of a view of sanctity of life. And I hope that can continue. I hope it continues, and not just in this time of crisis or pandemic,” he added. Harbaugh then said, ““And lastly, abortion. We talk about the sanctity of life, yet we live in a society that aborts babies. There can’t be anything more horrendous.” I don’t know about you, but Harbaugh has a fan in me. This has been your CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief, if you liked the show, share it for me would ya? Family Funds”, states donations will go toward funeral, food, and family expenses. “Fundraisers for these types of expenses are allowed under GoFundMe’s terms of service.” Gold River Trading Co. Now it’s time for the topic that I love, sports! https://www.themix.net/2022/07/university-of-michigan-coach-jim-harbaugh-the-unborn-are-amazing-gifts-from-god-to-make-this-world-a-better-place/ University Of Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh: “The Unborn Are Amazing Gifts From God To Make This World a Better Place” Now, before I dive into this, I tried to find coach Harbaugh’s speech on youtube so you could hear the audio, but it was nowhere to be found! Now, let’s get to the news, starting with Dr. Anthony Fauci! https://www.theepochtimes.com/fauci-reveals-exactly-when-hes-leaving-the-federal-government_4604550.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Fauci Reveals Exactly When He’s Leaving the Federal Government White House COVID-19 adviser Anthony Fauci revealed that after about five decades in the federal government, he’s planning on leaving his position by the end of President Joe Biden’s term. “We’re in a pattern now. If somebody says, ‘You’ll leave when we don’t have COVID anymore,’ then I will be 105. I think we’re going to be living with this,” Fauci, 81, told Politico in an interview published on Monday morning in confirming he’s retiring at the end of Biden’s term in office, which is Jan. 21, 2025. Fauci has been the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. During the COVID-19, he became a household name when he became the face of the federal government’s COVID-19 pandemic response, often generating criticism from Republicans and conservatives about his generally dire predictions about the pandemic. Of his relationship with former President Donald Trump, Fauci said that “we developed an interesting relationship … two guys from New York, different in their opinions and their ideology, but still, two guys who grew up in the same environments of this city. I think that we are related to each other in that regard.” And if Republicans win back either the House or Senate in 2022, Fauci noted that he will likely be investigated by GOP lawmakers. But he claimed that regarding those investigations, “I don’t make that a consideration in my career decision.” However, Fauci has faced public questions from Republicans in Congress about his agency having given funding to third-party groups to carry out research in China. COVID-19, caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, emerged in Wuhan, China, and a significant number of U.S. intelligence officials last year released a report suggesting the virus may be tied to the top-level Wuhan Institute of Virology. Last month, amid questions from Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Fauci admitted that he is not able to halt federal funding from being doled out to researchers in China. “The NIH [National Institutes of Health] is still funding research in China, at least $8 million since 2020,” Marshall said. “In the Intelligence Community’s 2022 Annual Threat Assessment, the Chinese Communist Party is presented as one of the top threats to the United States, along with Russia, Iran, Syria, and North Korea. To my knowledge, only China is receiving U.S. research dollars.” Later, he asked Fauci, “When will you as director of NIAID stop funding research in China?” Federal health agencies, Fauci said in response, “had very productive peer-reviewed highly regarded research projects with our Chinese colleagues that have led to some major advances in biomedical research.” “We obviously need to be careful and make sure that when we do fund them we have the proper peer review and we go through all the established guidelines,” he also said. https://dailycaller.com/2022/07/17/shameful-biden-admin-sold-6-million-barrels-strategic-oil-reserves-china/ Biden Admin Has Sold Nearly 6 Million Barrels Of Strategic Oil Reserves To China The Biden administration sold nearly six million barrels of oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) since July 2021 to a Chinese state-run energy firm, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of Department of Energy (DOE) data. From July 2021 until the end of June 2022, Biden’s energy department auctioned off 5.9 million barrels of strategic reserve oil to Unipec, the trading division of the Chinese state-owned Sinopec, in an effort to increase the supply of oil globally and drive down fuel costs in the U.S. that were exacerbated by the war in Ukraine and Biden’s climate policies. SPR oil is sold to the highest bidder, and some of the businesses entitled to make bids are American subsidiaries of foreign corporations like Unipec The DOE sold four million barrels to Unipec in the fall of 2021, almost six months before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, making over $252 million from the sale, according to the FY22 Emergency Drawdown No. 2 Successful Awards Report. Each barrel was sold on average for roughly $63, or over eight dollars less than the average price of oil per barrel that month. “I think it takes a bad policy and makes it worse,” Ben Lieberman, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. In July 2022 the DOE sold 950,000 barrels to Unipec for roughly $113 million, according to the FY22 Emergency Drawdown No. 3A Successful Awards Report. While the Biden administration claimed the sales will help the U.S. fight “Putin’s price hike,” Unipec is still buying large quantities of Russian oil, according to Bloomberg. “It’s helping out a bit, but it’s still a very bad policy,” Lieberman told the DCNF. “The fact that we’re using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve rather than drilling offshore or getting more oil to the United States through the Keystone XL pipeline, the fact that we’re not doing these things is really pretty shameful.” In April, the DOE also sold 950,000 barrels to Unipec, according to a DOE report. “The Strategic Petroleum Reserve never really was a substitute for that and now to hear that this oil is going to China is problematic because it undercuts their rationale even more,” said Lieberman. “Biden’s policy just shows that he’s not putting American consumers and the American economy first or second or even third.” The DOE, the White House and Sinopec did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. In the Armored Republic there is no King but Christ. We are Free Craftsmen. Body Armor is a Tool of Liberty. We create Tools of Liberty. Free men must remain ever vigilant against tyranny wherever it appears. God has given us the tools of liberty needed to defend the rights He bestowed to us. Visit them, at ar500armor.com https://www.theepochtimes.com/congress-grants-pentagon-58-billion-more-than-requested-dod-report_4603312.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Congress Grants Pentagon $58 Billion More Than Requested: DOD Report US lawmakers granted the Department of Defense (DOD) more money than the Pentagon requested for in the fiscal 2022 defense budget, a recent Pentagon report shows. In total, Congress sanctioned $58.55 billion in additional funds, according to the report. This includes $25.70 billion for operations and maintenance, $17.67 billion for procurement, $9.89 billion for research, development, test, and evaluation, $4.32 billion for military construction, and $947 million for military personnel. The DOD initially had a base budget appropriation of $742.3 billion for fiscal 2022. As such, the extra $58.55 billion represents an almost 8 percent increase from the base budget. The Pentagon did not put in a request for any of the programs funded with the extra $58.55 billion. These programs are not even in the so-called unfunded priorities lists—made up of items not included in the budget but considered critical—that departments and officers send to Congress annually. For instance, roughly $4 billion was granted for half a dozen ships that were not on the unfunded priorities list. Similarly, the Navy received $900 million for a dozen Super Hornet jets, the Air National Guard got $1.8 billion to purchase 16 C-130J transport planes, and $460 million was granted for developing advanced jet engines. Over $2 billion in extra funds was appropriated for classified programs. The $58.55 billion calculation only takes into account individual additions totaling $20 million or more. Since there are usually many spending hikes in the single-digit millions, the total actual excess funding will likely be higher. In an email to Roll Call, Steve Ellis, president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a government spending watchdog group, called for more efficient military budgets. “Certainly Congress has the power of the purse, but considering the Pentagon got more than $750 billion that year, lawmakers could work within that generous budget to reflect their priorities … Instead, they dumped more than $50 billion across accounts for what appear to be in some cases very parochial interests.” Since fiscal 2017, the Pentagon’s base budget has risen by 48 percent. The recently passed House version of the 2023 defense budget ups the funding received by the Pentagon, authorizing $839 billion in military spending—$37 billion more than was requested by the administration. And now, it’s time for the topic that I love… sports! You all know we’re on the Fight Laugh Feast Network, so now let’s talk about some fighting… https://nypost.com/2022/07/17/bronx-native-shane-burgos-now-7-0-in-ufc-bouts-in-new-york/ Bronx native Shane Burgos now 7-0 in UFC bouts in New York Shane Burgos’ record remains perfect in the Empire State. He can thank one hell of a chin for that. The Bronx native, who expressed displeasure with his performance, nevertheless managed to hold on for a majority decision victory over Charles Jourdain on Saturday at UBS Arena in featherweight action during the UFC’s first Long Island event in five years. The win moved him to 7-0 in UFC bouts in his home state. Shane Burgos hates how he ended the fight against Charles Jourdain | ESPN MMA - Play 2:25-3:52 Fans anticipated a clash of action-oriented strikers entering the main-card bout. But for two rounds, Burgos was a grappling beast and Jourdain simply couldn’t handle him. Burgos and his Tiger Schulmann’s MMA team anticipated that strategy would work. In a nifty moment early on, Burgos pushed off the octagon to help secure Jourdain’s back and to attack a rear-naked choke from the body triangle in the highest spot of the first round. He took the back with a standing body triangle again the following round, keeping it longer this time. The expected war on the feet broke out in the final round, but the battle was largely one-way traffic. Jourdain cracked Burgos often, besting the local favorite in significant strikes 84-26, per UFC Stats. Now let’s check in on some baseball standings, as I’m sure we’ve got some baseball fans in our audience: Starting in the American League AL East: The New York Yankees are firing on all cylinders, with a 64-28 record, leading all clubs across the Majors as far as best record goes. The second closest record in the AL East goes to the Tampa Bay Rays, a full-13 games back. It’s a close race in the AL Central, as the Minnesotta Twins are leading the way with a 50-44 record, and two teams are nipping at their heels. The Cleveland Guardians, or Indians as I’ll continue to call them, are standing at 46-44. While the Chicago Whitesox sit at 46-46. In the AL West, it’s a two team race featuring the Houston Astros, and the surprisingly hot Seattle Mariners! The Astros sit at 59-32, and the Mariners are 51-42. By the way, the Mariners are on a 14-game winning streak, and on top of that, the Astros and Mariners have a three game series starting this Friday! Over to the National League, the Mets & the Braves are separated by 2.5 games atop the east. In the NL Central, the Brewers are only ahead of the Cardinals by half a game. Each of them have 50 wins a piece. And finally, in the NL West, the Dodgers lead the way with the second best record in baseball, at 60-30. Good Monday ladies and gentleman, this is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Monday, July 18th, 2022. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend with you and yours’, so let’s start this week off right. Here’s what you may have missed over the weekend: https://www.foxnews.com/sports/lia-thomas-nominated-university-pennsylvania-ncaa-woman-year-award Lia Thomas nominated by University of Pennsylvania for NCAA 'Woman of the Year' award The University of Pennsylvania nominated swimmer Lia Thomas for the NCAA "Woman of the Year" award. According to an announcement from the NCAA, the University of Pennsylvania nominated the transgender athlete for the award, which recognizes female student-athletes. "Established in 1991, the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers," the NCAA nomination page reads. NCAA member schools "are encouraged to celebrate their top graduating female student-athletes by nominating them for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award," the announcement reads. After member schools make their nominations, their conference can then select up to two nominees. "The majority of us female athletes, or females in general, really, are not okay with this, and they're not okay with the trajectory of this and how this is going and how it could end up in a few years," Gaines said on the "Unmuted with Marsha" podcast with Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. She was referring to the NCAA's refusal to change the rules in order to protect competitiveness in female sports. The University of Pennsylvania also nominated Iuliia Bryzgalova for the award, who plays tennis at the school. Hey, speaking of playing dress-up, https://www.foxnews.com/politics/judge-biden-admin-transgender-school-bathroom-athletes Judge blocks Biden admin's transgender school bathroom rule for athletes A federal judge has blocked a directive from President Joe Biden’s administration that allowed transgender workers and students to use school restrooms matching their gender identities. It also allowed transgender athletes to join sports teams corresponding with their chosen genders. The directive was blocked by Judge Charles Atchley Jr. of the Eastern District of Tennessee, a Trump appointee, after a coalition of 20 Republican attorneys general sued last year, Reuters reported. The plaintiffs argued the federal directive clashed with state laws and prevented states from enforcing their own laws that banned transgender school bathroom use. Judge Atchley agreed, saying in his opinion the states "cannot continue regulating pursuant to their state laws while simultaneously complying with Defendants' guidance," Reuters reported. The states also argued the Biden administration's Justice Department, the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission — the defendants in the case — improperly justified the bathroom directive through the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County. In the case, Clayton County fired county employee Gerald Bostock for "unbecoming" behavior after he participated in a gay recreational softball league. The Supreme Court ruled in 2020, that workplace sex discrimination in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 should extend to sexual orientation and gender identity. The high court said in its decision they were not deciding whether "sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and dress codes' violate Title VII." The department suggested the court’s decision should be applied to sex-segregated bathrooms — but Judge Atchley disagreed. The Supreme Court in Bostock "explicitly refused to decide whether 'sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and dress codes' violate Title VII," the judge said in his opinion, Reuters reported. Oklahoma Attorney General John O'Connor, who was among the plaintiffs, called the decision "a major victory for women's sports and for the privacy and safety of girls and women in their school bathrooms and locker rooms," per the report. It’s the largest number recorded in a fiscal year in U.S. history. They total 2,002,604 from over 150 countries. In June, a record 207,416 people were apprehended, the highest number recorded in June in the history of the Department of Homeland Security. The total includes those apprehended and encountered by U.S. Border Patrol and Office of Field Operations staff. They exclude gotaways first reported by The Center Square, which includes at least another 50,009 people. The total for June, including gotaways, was 257,425, a record high for the month. “Gotaways” is the official term used by Border Patrol to describe foreign nationals who enter the U.S. illegally and don’t surrender at ports of entry but intentionally seek to evade capture from law enforcement. They are currently in the U.S. and no one in law enforcement knows who or where they are. The last time encounters were nearly this high was the last summer of the presidency of Bill Clinton. In June 2000, 117,469 people were encountered/apprehended at the southern border, excluding gotaways. In May, CBP reported the highest monthly total of apprehensions at the southern border in recorded U.S. history of 239,416, excluding another minimum 70,793 recorded gotaways. In April, CBP reported 235,478 total encounters/apprehensions; in March, 222,239; in February, 165,902; in January, 154,816. The totals all exclude gotaway data. Despite a record number of people coming to the southern border, CBP says it “continues to enforce U.S. immigration law and apply consequences to those without a legal basis to remain in the U.S. “Current restrictions at the U.S. border have not changed; single adults and families encountered at the southwest border will continue to be expelled, where appropriate, under CDC’s Title 42 Order. Those who are not expelled will be processed under the long-standing Title 8 authority and placed into removal proceedings.” But this isn’t what’s happening, Republican governors and attorneys general nationwide argue. This week, 19 AGs filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of a lawsuit filed by Texas and Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed in response to a directive issued by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that drastically altered deportation policy, which the states argue contradicts federal law established by Congress and allows more people to stay in the U.S. illegally, including violent criminals. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis implemented a range of policies to combat what he describes as the “Biden border crisis,” including suing over the Biden administration’s “catch and release” and other programs. Texas and Missouri have sued the administration over several border security issues, including halting border wall construction and reimplementing an Obama-era program allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country. Texas and Arizona also have implemented a range of border security measures costing their states’ taxpayers a combined multiple billions of dollars to thwart criminal activity stemming from the southern border. And Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says his state’s law enforcement officials have confiscated enough fentanyl to kill nearly every man, woman and child in the U.S., which is brought into Texas illegally from Mexico. GAVIN NEWSOM THREATENS ACTION AGAINST UCLA DUE TO BIG 10 MOVE Gavin Newsom continues to put himself in his favorite place to be; the news. This time he’s making headlines with regards to UCLA’s impending 2024 move out of the Pac-12 Conference to the Big 10. In a recent interview with Fox 11 in Los Angeles, Newsom explained how he heard about UCLA’s decision and his initial reactions to it. He specifically highlighted that UCLA did not give advance notice to the University of California system’s Board of Regents, saying the negotiations were “done in isolation” and without their “oversight or support.” The full quote is even more critical, with Newsom implying he was frustrated with finding out about it in the news like everyone else: Gavin Newsom says UC regents not consulted about UCLA leaving Pac-12- Play 0:20-1:42 For his part, Martin Jarmond, the UCLA Athletic Director, claimed the move was mostly about increasing “exposure” in the NIL era. By opening the school up to potentially more nationally televised games and East Coast markets, Jarmond says they can now provide an enhanced opportunity for student-athletes to find “their voice and their brand and what’s important to them.” But importantly, Newsom also signaled that UCLA might not be able to pack their bags as quickly as expected. During the interview he stated that the Regents have already been “looking into it” with regards to potential options: UCLA has been in deep financial trouble, accruing over $100 million in debt in just the past few years. The Big 10 currently offers significant revenue advantages over the Pac-12 and undoubtedly will allow UCLA to clear up its poor finances more quickly. Whether or not Newsom and the UC Board of Regents will be able to do anything to stop or slow the move remains to be seen. But it’s odd that Newsom is on one hand claiming that he’s a champion of “freedom” in California while doing his best to impede UCLA’s freedom to improve their stature and financial situation. Like many who have fled his state’s managerial incompetence, UCLA has found greener pastures with an organization based elsewhere. Newsom apparently just doesn’t like losing. Newsome is crushing California’s economy so hard, that even his woke universities are making the most of capitalism, in order to find greener pastures… As a football fan, I kind of get it. The Pac-12 has done a poor job of getting the west-coast schools exposure when it comes to televised games… especially because the east coast is already going to be asleep during a lot of the prime time competitions for the Pac-12. Do you really think someone in Eastern time is going to stay up and watch a 3 & a half hour long football game? No thanks. On July 8th President Biden was supposed to sign an executive order regarding reproductive rights, and the order would direct Health and Human Services to take action…but there is one problem. He neer signed an executive order. Go to the Federal Registry, you can’t find it! https://www.federalregister.gov/presidential-documents/executive-orders/joe-biden/2022 But what they have released is a Fact Sheet…that has literally no authority: FACT SHEET: President Biden to Sign Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/07/08/fact-sheet-president-biden-to-sign-executive-order-protecting-access-to-reproductive-health-care-services/ Today, President Biden will sign an Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services. This Executive Order builds on the actions his Administration has already taken to defend reproductive rights by: -Safeguarding access to reproductive health care services, including abortion and contraception; -Protecting the privacy of patients and their access to accurate information; -Promoting the safety and security of patients, providers, and clinics; and -Coordinating the implementation of Federal efforts to protect reproductive rights and access to health care. HHS will take additional actions in the coming days. Pig-Heart Transplants in Two Brain-Dead People Offer Chance to Improve Tests for Pig Viruses https://www.wsj.com/articles/pig-heart-transplants-in-two-brain-dead-people-offer-chance-to-improve-tests-for-pig-viruses-11657638000 According to WSJ: Two brain-dead individuals received genetically modified pig-heart transplants, part of growing efforts by scientists who want to improve tests on pig organs for pig viruses and gather data that could help launch clinical trials of animal-to-human organ transplants. Scientists at NYU Langone Health, where the research studies took place in June and July, said the pig hearts were flown from a facility hundreds of miles away and then transplanted into two recently deceased individuals, Lawrence Kelly, 72, a former welder from Beaver Meadows, Pa., and Alva Capuano, 64, a former teacher from New York City. Mr. Kelly was driving alone in his car when he suffered a heart attack, according to his fiancée, Alice Michael. Ms. Capuano, who had been the recipient of a kidney transplant from her son many years ago, had a heart attack while at home, said her husband, Richard Capuano. Both individuals were later declared brain-dead and maintained on ventilators. Their families agreed to donate their bodies to science, to take part in the research studies. In the U.S., brain death is defined as the irreversible cessation of all brain function, even if heart and lung activity can be maintained with machines. The pig hearts weren’t immediately rejected by the recipients’ bodies and functioned for the duration of the three-day studies, according to Nader Moazami, surgical director of heart transplantation at NYU Langone Health, who led the pig-heart procedures. The data haven’t been published yet or peer-reviewed. The issue was highlighted by the recent case of David Bennett, a 57-year-old handyman from Hagerstown, Md., whose pig-heart transplant was conducted at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. The emergency procedure was aimed at extending the critically ill man’s life. Mr. Bennett died in March, 60 days after the transplant surgery. Euro, dollar a penny away from parity for first time in 20 years https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/euro-dollar-penny-away-from-parity-first-time-20-years For the first time in nearly two decades, the exchange rate between the euro and the U.S dollar is about equal. The euro dropped to a 20-year low on Monday, approaching parity with the dollar on fears that an energy crisis in the European Union could drag the region into a recession. The euro traded at around $1.007 on Monday afternoon in the U.S, down roughly 15% from the start of the year. The parity between the two currencies comes as Russia shut off a key pipeline – Nord Stream 1 – carrying gas to Germany for annual maintenance. While the routine work that includes "testing of mechanical elements and automation systems" is scheduled to end on July 21, German officials fear the suspension of Russian gas could last longer than anticipated because of the war in Ukraine. The strong U.S. dollar is good news for Americans traveling to Europe this summer, who can expect to pay less for a plethora of goods while they are overseas. Atlanta Fed GDP Tracker Still Negative Even After Blowout Jobs Number https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2022/07/08/atlanta-fed-gdp-tracker-still-negative-even-after-blowout-jobs-number/ The jobs number for June was much better than expected but not good enough to push the Atlanta Fed’s real-time GDP tracker back into positive territory. The Department of Labor said the U.S. economy added 372,000 jobs in the month of June, far better than the 250,000 expected. Wholesaler inventories grew by 1.8 percent in May, slightly lower than the initial estimate of two percent. The growth of employment and inventories was not enough to overcome the disappointing news in the weeks preceding it. The real-time GDP tracker run by the Federal Reserve, called GDPNOW, fell into negative territory weeks ago and remains there even now. On Friday afternoon, it registered a 1.2 percent contraction in the economy in the second quarter. If that turns out to be right, this would be the second consecutive quarterly contraction. In the minds of many, that constitutes a recession—even if the official arbiters of recessions at the National Bureau of Economic Research may not declare it to be a recession because unemployment remains so low. The odds are that the Atlanta Fed’s tracker will not rise into positive territory. There are only three more readings left before the official read of second quarter GDP is published on July 28th. On July 27th, we’ll get the final read. It will include figures from estimates of manufacturing in June, likely to show evidence of the contraction that has shown up in surveys. The final data source that will inform that GDPNOW estimate will be the Advance Economic Indicators, which are an amalgam of what we learned from inventory and trade data. In short, GDPNOW is more likely to fall than rise. Big upside surprises in the economic data could turn it around but that looks unlikely. Housing Could Provide More Fuel for Inflation https://www.wsj.com/articles/housing-could-provide-more-fuel-for-inflation-11657618231 Climbing housing costs are set to keep inflation elevated this year, creating another challenge for Federal Reserve officials who want to see signs that price pressures are easing before slowing their interest-rate increases. Overall annual inflation rose to 8.6% in May, while core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, hit 6%, according to the Labor Department’s consumer-price index. The June figures are set to be released Wednesday. Rising fuel costs and supply-chain disruptions from Russia’s war against Ukraine added to inflation that was already high due to surging demand from the economy’s reopening and aggressive government stimulus. Annual housing inflation, as measured in the CPI, hit a recent low in early 2021 at 1.4% and it has since rebounded, to 5.4% in May, well above the annual average of 3.5% between 2015 and 2019. Because of the way the Labor Department captures rental prices, rent inflation could continue to rise this summer before peaking at around 6.5% over the next several months, said David Wilcox, a senior economist at Bloomberg Economics and the Peterson Institute for International Economics. That would be a 36-year high. Fed rate increases have led to a broad pullback in financial risk taking, sending up borrowing costs and leading to stock-market declines. Mortgage rates have recently jumped to a 14-year high, and home builders and real-estate agents are reporting a significant pullback in sales. But demand for rental housing could continue to rise, keeping rents high. “These rent-based components in the inflation indices are likely to prove relatively impervious to the tightening in financial conditions we’re seeing right now,” said Mr. Wilcox. Other inflation forecasters see less scope for an additional, large run-up in housing inflation. Based on recent data, Omair Sharif, head of the advisory firm Inflation Insights LLC, expects housing inflation to rise to 6% by the end of the year. Meanwhile, he expects other service prices, such as for health insurance, to drop at the end of the year, providing enough downward pressure to monthly inflation readings to more than offset any strength from housing. So, here’s what you may have missed over the weekend: https://www.foxbusiness.com/business-leaders/twitter-lawyers-sue-elon-musk-broken-deal-report Twitter lawyers up to sue Elon Musk over broken buyout deal: Twitter has retained the services of a heavyweight merger law firm to sue Tesla CEO Elon Musk for moving to drop his $44 billion takeover of the company, according to a report. The company has hired Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz LLP to represent it in a forthcoming suit, Bloomberg reported Sunday. Bloomberg cited sources who declined to be identified due to the private nature of the matter. A law firm representing the Tesla CEO sent a letter to Twitter on Friday, alleging that it appears "to have made false and misleading representations" when Musk agreed to buy the company on April 25 and has "breached" multiple provisions of the initial agreement. Musk's team has raised concerns with "spam bots" on the platform, and the Tesla CEO has threatened to walk away from the deal if the company fails to show that less than 5% of its daily active users are automated spam accounts. Musk has argued that Twitter significantly underestimated the number of these "spam bots" on its service. Last month, Twitter offered Musk access to its "firehose" of raw data on hundreds of millions of daily tweets, according to multiple reports at the time, though neither the company nor Musk confirmed this. Twitter said it removes 1 million spam accounts each day in a call with executives Thursday during a briefing that aimed to shed more light on the company's fake and bot accounts. Twitter said on the call that the spam accounts represent well below 5% of its active user base each quarter. Private data, which isn't available publicly and thus not in the data "firehose" that was given to Musk, includes IP addresses, phone numbers and location. Twitter said such private data helps avoid misidentifying real accounts as spam. Neither SpaceX nor Tesla nor Twitter immediately responded to FOX Business' request for comment Sunday. A receptionist for Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz declined to confirm or deny the report. More from our booming economy: https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/us-postal-service-rate-increases-takes-effect-sunday US Postal Service rate increases takes effect Sunday The next time you mail through the United States Postal Service (USPS), it's going to cost you extra. The USPS' rate hike, upping First-Class Mail prices by 6.5%, took effect Sunday, according to the agency. When the USPS made its announcement in April it noted that the 6.5% increase would still be below inflation, which is sitting at a rate of 8.6%. However, this likely won't be the last increase from the USPS. In May, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said Americans should get used to "uncomfortable" postage rate increases in coming years as the U.S. Postal Service seeks to become self-sufficient. The Postal Service Board of Governors sets postage rates, but DeJoy said he’ll advocate for raising prices until "we have accomplished our objective of projecting a trajectory that shows us being self-sustaining." That objective is laid out in the USPS' 10-year plan, Delivering for America. As part of this plan, the USPS is working to break even by the fiscal year 2023 and avoid $160 billion in projected losses over the next 10 years. The price adjustments taking effect Sunday "will help with the implementation of the Delivering for America plan, including a $40 billion investment in core Postal Service infrastructure over the next ten years," according to the USPS. https://www.breitbart.com/environment/2022/07/11/world-economic-forum-says-democracy-is-dying-ditch-fossil-fuels-and-save-it/ World Economic Forum: Gas Prices Must Go Even Higher — to Save Democracy The World Economic Forum (WEF) released a position paper Monday that inexorably links two claimed global crises as one – “climate change” and the “decline of democracy.” The WEF paper argues for the past 15 years, democracy has been in decline worldwide. To protect and promote freedom, “leading democracies must strengthen their economies and safeguard liberty.” It goes on to say ignoring progress toward a “low-carbon economy could put democracies in greater economic peril, not less” while repeating the broader demand of environmental activists for companies to stop investing fossil fuels. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has brought renewed focus on this economic weakness, the WEF says. What is the answer for the U.S. and Europe? Pricing the alternatives to green energy out of the market. It says: First, leading democracies should agree to end the underpricing of fossil fuels, which is the principal factor preventing a clean energy transition. The underpricing associated with producing and burning coal, oil and gas amounted to $5.9 trillion in economic costs in 2020. Nearly a quarter of these losses – $1.45 trillion – occurred in 48 major and smaller democracies. The leading democracies of the G20 should collectively commit to phasing out cost and tax breaks for the production and consumption of fossil fuels. They should also phase in more efficient pricing of fossil fuels through taxes or tradable permits to cover the costs of local air pollution, global warming, and other economic damages. The paper goes on to argue that compliance can and must be enforced. Taxes can be imposed on carbon-intensive imports to reduce the risk of unfair competition for their domestic industries “and to deter companies from relocating overseas to avoid compliance at home.” Doesn’t that just scream democracy? Forcing other economies to reform their under-pricing of fossil fuels to avoid the penalties imposed by the policy should also be actively pursued, according to the WEF, with U.S. President Joe Biden already committed to punishing the fossil fuel industry out of existence. The paper concludes that by delaying a clean energy transition, “leading democracies are making their economies more vulnerable through continued reliance on fossil fuels.” Collectively acting to foster a green transition “is not only good for the climate but also critical for protecting democracy,” ……… that’s the conclusion of the paper… Gold River Trading Co. No… not really, sports! https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2022/07/08/report-nfl-teams-to-start-training-camp-with-no-covid-protocols/ NFL Teams to Start Training Camp with No Covid Protocols For the first time since the pandemic began, NFL teams will start training camp without any Covid protocols or restrictions, according to a report in the Washington Post. That means the league will not mandate that players wear masks, participate in contact tracing, wear bracelets, or otherwise partake in any of the standard Covid protocols the league has had in place since 2020. The NFL did, however, leave open the possibility of reinstating Covid protocols should the need arise. “Should there be a reason to reimpose aspects of the protocols or to take other measures, we will work closely with clubs, the NFLPA and our respective experts, and local, state and federal public health officials to continue to safeguard the health of the NFL community,” the memo to all teams stated. While the league will not place players or coaches under any restrictions, all employees of the 32 league franchises are expected to conform to whatever coronavirus safeguards local authorities have put in place. The NFL and NFLPA agreed to end the league’s coronavirus testing regimen in March.
