The 7th season of the Borah Pridecast has been a "restructuring" year. Our audio expert, Mr. Wray, did what a lot of teachers hope to do: he retired. So, we've been trying to get some episodes done while learning the editing ropes; and it's been a tough year, but we've finally found the "on air" button on the this thing, so here comes Episode #31! In this sit down interview with Borah U.S. Government teacher Korrin Rue, listeners get a taste of what it's like to teach high school government classes in the midst of the current political climate in this country (hint: it's a little awkward). This is an insightful, compelling, and honest look at today's politics in the high school classroom. These are Borah voices.
The Pridecast is set to go for Season 7 and the podcast crew is eager to drop some episodes. Stay tuned, too, for the 2nd Season of Borah Voices, the completely student generated podcast from Borah High School. It's going to be a great year! These are Borah voices.

As we get ready for Pride here in Seattle, we have so much to celebrate. We have one of the country's largest LGBQTIA+ populations. We're a beacon of hope, anti-discrimination, and Washington is notable for being one of the first two states to legalize same-sex marriage by a vote of the people. We are a welcoming place, but not far from here, just miles away, we've seen protests against our community, especially when it comes to drag queen story time. Today, we speak to the queen who helped pioneer this unique form of expression--ten years running, and at PrideFest no less--Aleksa Manila. And we speak with Lil Miss Hot Mess, who is a national and international leader on Drag Queen Story Hour, who will also help headline Seattle PrideFest this weekend. We talk of the history of this tradition and how it can actually be good for kids.

In this episode of the PrideCast, we learn the stories of three LGBTQIA+ Seattleites as we take a journey through trauma, recovery, and giving back. Learn about one woman spontaneously "playing" the piano (the soundtrack for this episode), how a second trip to prison was a turning point for one young man, and the healing power of beauty pageants for another of our interviewees, one of the few refuges from his cult upbringing. The stories are all different, the paths to recovery all varied, but you'll find the beautiful lives these three have created from trauma and struggle to be inspiring and unexpected.

For episode 19, 2014 Springfield College alumnus, and 2013 157lb Division III National Champion, Devin Biscaha joins the PrideCast! Despite a lack of competition entering the postseason of his junior year, Devin managed to navigate a seemingly insurmountable national bracket where he was an unseeded wrestler that knocked off No. 6 seed Reece Lefever of Wabash, No. 3 seed Cole Welter of Wartburg, No. 2 seed Chris Burdge of Centenary, and No. 4 seed, Kris Krawchuk of Wilkes to capture gold. Devin is a Jackson, N.J. native and a 2010 graduate of perennial powerhouse Jackson Memorial High School. With the Jags, Biscaha was part of a contingent that was the No. 1 team in New Jersey in 2007, and consistently ranked in the top 10 in the state during his high school career. Biscaha was the first Springfield wrestler to compete in the national championship bout since John Roden was the national runner up at 174 in 2000. Biscaha became Springfield Wrestling's first ever NCAA Division III title and only second national champ in the program's long history next to Olympic gold medalist and the late Jeff Blatnick '79, who won a pair of NCAA Division II national titles at heavyweight in 1978 and 1979. After graduating from Springfield with a bachelor's degree in Movement and Sport Studies, Biscaha began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Powerhouse Christiansburg High School in Christiansburg, Virginia. While on staff, Biscaha helped lead Christiansburg to 3 team state titles, two team state runner-up finishes, coached 11 individual state champions that combined for 19 titles, and coached 20 state placewinners. He recently returned to his hometown of Jackson, New Jersey where he is now the head coach at Jackson Liberty High School. Following Devin's title run, Springfield finished 8th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the 2013 Division III tournament. It was the highest team finish for the Pride since the 1998 team took seventh. Alongside Bischaha, Derek Adams and Joe Grippi wrapped up their seasons by earning All-America honors. This is the first time since 1999 that Springfield has produced three All-Americans. That year, Mike Gaydos (197-6th), Craig Vedrani (157-6th), and John Roden (174-4th) all took home the national honor. In the spirit of Pride Month, this week we celebrate love and individuality with our two special guests Jes and Maliik. They talk with us about their experiences being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
We could barely contain our excitement for this week's PRIDEcast! "Sutton's Gotta Give" us a break from her antics. We love Kathy Hilton even more than the week before. Hunter says something nice about Lisa Rinna. We finally talk taglines, and Papa the Bear isn't pleased. We hope you have as much fun listening as we had recording. Happy Pride!
