"If we believed that Jesus only died for a few of our sins, we'd still be living as captive people. But when I first understood that God remembers no more and when he sees me he sees Jesus—that changed everything about how I live, what I believe about the power of the Gospel, and what I share with people."— Rachelle StarrThe blood of Jesus is enough to cover every sin—no sin is too big or too insignificant for him to forgive. He paid the full price for everyone who trusts in his saving work on the cross. It's the best news! And it's what we're discussing today with Rachelle Star, founder of Scarlet Hope. Her ministry helps women caught in the sex industry experience the love and forgiveness of Jesus. You will be so encouraged to hear her testimony of hope for all sinners, including herself. This month's memory verse: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." — Psalm 103:12 Today's guest: Rachelle Starr is first and foremost a lover of Jesus. In 2007, Rachelle founded the nonprofit, Scarlet Hope, when God called her to share His hope and love with exploited and trafficked women. Scarlet Hope has since expanded across ten cities in the United States and has trained thousands to launch similar nonprofits worldwide under Rachelle's leadership. Rachelle is an entrepreneur at heart and enjoys developing innovative ways to reach and disciple women, wherever they are. As a speaker, coach, and author of Outrageous Obedience, Rachelle has shared her story on numerous platforms to inspire women to live an outrageous life for Jesus. Today's episode with my new friend, Rachelle Starr. Rachelle talks about how her journey of working with women in the adult entertainment industry started when she was 23 years old, starting with a daily prayer session for 18 months with the people who decided to walk this path with her. When God told her it was time to start going in, the soil was ready for planting. She emphasizes the importance of developing rhythms of prayer, fasting and soaking in the Word of God, not only to discover His plan for your life, but also to discover more about who He is. I pray that this conversation will open your eyes to see what is going on in the world around you and leads you to ask God what He wants for you to do and who He has for you to reach. Then be ready to answer the call! Bio: Rachelle Starr founded Scarlet Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to sharing the hope of Jesus with women in the adult entertainment industry. Rachelle also leads a gospel-centered career development program where women can receive employment and job skills while discovering their God-given gifts and talents. When she was only twenty-three years old, Rachelle Starr started going to strip clubs to share Christ's love with the dancers. Now, having founded a Christian ministry to people in the adult entertainment industry, she demonstrates the key to shining Christ's light into the darkness--love people one at a time and continue to love them no matter what. Loving others like Jesus did has to be more than social media shares and likes--we need to meet people in their pain, growing in our empathy and love for those God has placed in our lives. But maybe you're afraid or unsure where to start. On today's episode we are chatting about how a little vision goes a long way. As Rachelle shares about her book Outrageous Obedience: Answering God's Call to Shine in the Darkest Places (@bethanyhouse) she will light a fire in your soul to step out in greater ways and become fearlessly and outrageously obedient to the Lord. Join us to be inspired by Rachelle's true stories and biblical encouragement, and discover the courage to say yes to God. Then witness the fruit and the blessings of your obedience to the vision God has given you. Connect with Rachelle: https://rachellestarr.co https://scarlethope.org
Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast! I am joined with Rachelle Starr. Rachelle Starr is the author of Outrageous Obedience: Answering God's Call to Shine in the Darkest Places which is about how she answered God's calling in her life to reach out to women in the adult entertainment industry and eventually how she started the Scarlet Hope ministry. In this episode, Rachelle shares a little bit of her story and together we explore the ways moms can help raise their children to love like how Jesus loves. There can be a tendency in the church to avoid the uncomfortable or dark places, like the adult entertainment industry, but as Rachelle points out those are the places that need God's light the most. Rachelle also shares some practical ways to make a difference, and how important it is to obey God's call to move from prayer to action. Also, it's never too late! Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation! You can connect with Rachelle through Instagram, and check out the Scarlet Hope website. Be sure to order her book so you can read her full story! FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: *Part of Rachelle's story is her parents and how they began a legacy in her by being faithful teachers of the Gospel. The work you are doing right now as a Christian mom can make a huge impact! Not just for your child, but for the work your child could do in the future. *Jesus asked did you feed me, did you clothe me? That is the question every Christian needs to ask themselves. It isn't what saves them but it is what shows the reflection of Christ. *Often when we are afraid, we run to what is comfortable. Being a Christian, however, means we don't have to live in fear! And, we are often called into the uncomfortable places. REMEMBER: -We need to foster a heart of empathy in our children and get them involved early on with helping others. Rachelle shares examples of how she does this with her kids but every family is different. -You are never too old to follow God's calling! Some people go decades without obeying the call and live to regret it, but even after years you can still answer His calling. It is never too late! -Even Jesus had twelve disciples! We can't do it alone. We need each other, teamwork, communities, and to disciple one another. Connect with Somer! Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: Do you ever wonder about God's calling on your life? What does the Bible say about God's calling on your life? What does it mean when God is calling you? In this episode, I talk with Rachelle Starr. At the age of 23, she God called her to share the hope of Jesus to women in the adult entertainment industry. This led her to love people through their pain and her pain as she walked out God's calling on her life in outrageous obedience. You won't want to miss this episode! Quotables from the episode: One of the best things my parents did for me was to teach me who Jesus was and what he did for me. Learning about God's calling on your life begins praying for purpose and the people God wants you to reach. Ask God and invite him in to speak to you about your calling. In pursuing your God-given calling, consider prayer and fasting as well as silence and solitude to hear God's voice and receive his direction. Pray and ask God to give you eyes to see who God wants you to minister to. Fear, inadequacy, and doubt freeze us from living out our call. Outrageous obedience is about living out the great commission. When you come up against darkness, you become grateful for the salvation Jesus died for you to have. Stepping out in faith and doing something that the world says is crazy can be extremely hard and scary. But it's important to remember that if God calls us to something, He also equips us. Outrageous obedience to God is rooted in a relationship with Him. Sometimes we over-complicate things. If you are daily soaking in the Word and spending time with your Heavenly Father, He will guide your steps. It is God's faithfulness (and not our own!) that fuels our calling. The best thing you can do is just take it one step at a time. Before I did anything, I simply prayed. Because our faithful God goes with you, you can be a light where it's dark. You ARE good enough. When God calls you, he also equips you. Scripture References: Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV) The Great Commission: “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Isaiah 61:1-3 (ESV) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. 1 John 4:19 (ESV) “We love because he first loved us.” Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Esther 4:14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Recommended Resources: Outrageous Obedience by Rachelle Starr Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be Another Good Day Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. A perfect Valentines Day Release. How can we love those that the world might see as unlovable?I have been looking forward to this episode for almost 2 months now! My guest this week is Rachelle Starr. Rachelle is the founder of Scarlet Hope ministries and she just released her new book Outrageous Obedience in November. Our guest, Rachelle Starr, is guaranteed to make us pray and move more boldly on faith and obedience because she is unapologetic about her love for Christ. We often begin to think that those who minister in strip clubs must have some history with it, but that's what makes Rachelle's story even more powerful. She truly embodies 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.As we prepare to get into this conversation, it is my prayer that we would all see the grace that abounds in the middle of some of the darkest places.Romans 5:20-21God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Rachelle Encouraged Us To Remember The:Full body of Christ is beautiful;Adult entertainment industry is in all of our cities;People and their salvation in the darkest places we often judge;Holy Spirit will lead you when you choose obedience;Community you have is essential to your mission.Tag me and let me know what your favorite point was! In 2007 Rachelle Starr founded Scarlet Hope as a ministry to share the hope and love of Jesus with women in the adult entertainment industry in Louisville. Since then they have expanded to seven cities across North America. I got to sit down with Rachelle and talk about how she got involved in helping women in the sex industry, the lessons she learned from years of running Scarlet Hope, and how the church can be involved in caring for women in the adult entertainment industry. This is a really complex and difficult topic that I have been wanting to learn more about and I'm really glad that Rachelle was willing to share her insights with me. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Learn more about Scarlet Hope at their website https://scarlethope.org/ Follow Rachelle on Instagram @rachellestarr.co I am always @itsthevalk Cheers Fam.

What does it take to leave a lucrative career and start loving people in a completely foreign world? How does a willingness to follow God lead us outside of conventions, so much so that strip club owners become friends? In this interview, my wife, Rachel, sits down to answer those questions with Rachelle Starr, the founder of Scarlet’s Hope and Scarlet’s Bakery. Over the past ten years, Rachelle has followed God outside the gates to love those who society says are unlovable and to give a sense of worth to those who society says are worthless. Listen to this inspiring story of what happens when we abandon what we want and pursue what God wants. Episode Highlights 00:51 - How Rachelle learned to love people different from her 3:06 - The moment Rachelle was called to work with women in the sex industry (and her husband’s response) 4:23 - When churches didn’t step up, God stepped in 5:10 - What God told Rachelle that pushed her out of her comfort zone and into His will 7:02 - A woman’s response to Rachelle’s offer of a home-cooked meal 10:54 - The factors that contribute to women entering the sex industry 12:47 - What led to Rachelle quitting her successful career in marketing and starting Scarlet’s Hope 19:45 - How the bakery (Scarlet’s Bakery) serves the women of Scarlet’s Hope 23:20 - The one habit that helps transition the women from working in the club at night to working in the bakery during the day 25:36 - Teams in over 120 cities have been trained to reach women in the sex industry 25:01 - How you can get involved with Scarlet’s Hope 27:36 - The truth about why the sex industry exists 29:38 - The woman from the club who inspired the name “Scarlet’s Hope”

Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Compassion This third episode in the series Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs is the conclusion of my interview with Rachelle Starr, founder of Scarlet Hope. In this second half of our interview, I asked Rachelle to address what safeguards she has put in place to avoid harm and temptation in such a risky ministry, as well as other critiques of her ministry. She tells a bit more about the church community supporting her ministry and the compassion for these women that compels her to reach out to them through Scarlet Hope. It was evident that she is focused on the Great Commission and moved with compassion. So, if compassion is motivating us, does that validate all of our approaches to evangelism? Stay tuned to part four of the series for the answer to that question.
Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Controversy After reading an article about Rachelle Starr who took LeCrae’s CD Rebel into the Louisville strip clubs as part of her ministry Scarlet Hope, I was inspired to talk about the variety of methods Christians are using to try and reach the lost. At first, I was skeptical to say the least. Yet, as I began to research more about Scarlet Hope, beyond the LeCrae instance, I found there was a lot more to the story. So this episode examines the controversy of her approach as well as instances in Scripture where God instructs His prophets to take some seemingly controversial and strange actions as a part of their ministry to Israel. Take a listen and you may decide that we can’t draw conclusions based on controversy.
Taking Christian Rap to the Clubs: The Clarification In the previous episode, I discussed Scarlet Hope founder Rachelle Starr who took LeCrae’s CD Rebel to a strip club as a part of her ministry. I concluded that yes, her ministry is certainly controversial, but it can’t be discounted just because of the controversy. God’s prophets also were called to some pretty controversial actions. So does that mean we should all go to the strip clubs to evangelize? Certainly not! In this episode, I bring some clarifications that the actions of the prophets were unique. Mrs. Starr and the ministry of Scarlet Hope is unique. But you don’t take my word for it; I’ve interviewed Rachelle for this episode. Check out this episode to hear part one of our interview.
