“God found me at my worst possible time…..cause He loves [doing] that.” James Fry is living proof that our past doesn't have to define us. Though he's walked many dark valleys, James has become a light for others, eagerly pointing them to a relationship with God. And as a Professional Driver and Road Captain for Nussbaum, he's helping new drivers find their way….he knows what it's like to feel lost. At less than two years old, Child Protective Services found James and his twin brother at home—alone—and terribly sick. After months in the hospital, they entered foster care, and didn't meet their biological father until years later—a painful day that James will never forget. Fast forward to his 20s, and James was at an all-time low. Nothing he tried seemed to work, and he found himself struggling with alcoholism and still bearing the pain of his father's rejection. That's when a kind neighbor invited him to church…… Don't miss this special episode of Terminal Exchange—press play today! Oh, to be kids again. Jerrid Knight and James Grier have fond memories of boxing matches, wrestling tournaments, snowball fights—the wholesome fun that brothers enjoy. After high school, both brothers joined the military—an experience they credit with instilling the character and discipline that helped them get where they are today. But most of all, they credit God for ordaining a path that challenged them to grow…..and eventually, brought them to Nussbaum Transportation. Today's exchange is packed with stories, from Jerrid playing the Wicked Witch of the West in 4th grade, to James deploying overseas as a newly married Marine. What's it take to be successful in truckload sales? Wining and dining? The lowest rates? (hint: not that). In today's exchange, we explore five keys to success using the acronym S.A.L.E.S. • S – Strategic Outreach• A – Aligning Internally • L – Long-term Relationships• E – Excellence in Service • S – Sustainable Growth According to Joe, Brent, and Mark, our Business Development Managers, patience and thoroughness underpin everything. To be sure, sales can be fast-paced and exciting! But finding the best customers with the right freight at the right price takes persistence. In addition to prospecting and building customer relationships, our BDMs unpack the “three-legged stool”—the importance of aligning your sales, operations, and pricing teams to find the right business for your network strategy. Checks and balances are critical, as each part brings needed perspective—sales with possibility, pricing with profitability, and operations with feasibility. “Jerry, just remember—when you go to New York, God's already been there [working] in that person's life.” Jerry McCorkle recalls his father's wise instruction before leaving on a mission trip to New York City to spread the gospel. Over the years, he's learned that God does indeed go before us, sending “signals” to people in everyday life that prepare them to receive the Good News. Nearly 30 years later, those mission trips are still happening. It started in 1996 with Jerry and some college students. Today, Spread Truth Ministries is an international effort that equips Christians to share their faith. With resources like The Story App, The Story Booklet, gospel-centered training, and mission trips to NYC and Kenya, Spread Truth is helping people share and meet Jesus. In today's episode, Jerry tells the story of Spread Truth and offers practical guidance on sharing your faith. Spoiler alert: we need the introverts, you don't have to memorize a formula, and pastors don't always know what to say! Drawing from a lifetime of experience, Jerry reminds us to simply love people, ask good questions, and take the time to hear their story. And then, respond with the greatest story ever told. Press play and enjoy! Quotes: “We believe there's one story that governs the world. One story, one God….” “Every person you meet wants the story of their life to end right, but they may not know how. So you say, ‘Listen, what if I could share with you a story that guarantees you something beyond your wildest imagination?”“Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, God uses both.” “It's a conversation, not a presentation.” “It just takes that ordinary person on the street corner that's unintimidating, who just loves people, and God uses them in miraculous ways. I think when pastors go on the trip, they learn from their congregants on how to share their faith.” “They were interested in ME. Calling all professional drivers and driver-hiring professionals—this episode is for you! The hiring process is (or at least ought to be) a big decision for both carriers and drivers. The goal is a mutually beneficial relationship built on honesty and clear expectations from the get-go. So why do so many drivers report “bait and switch” tactics? Or being straight up lied to? Why do recruiters report being frequently ghosted or burnt out from difficult phone conversations? In today's exchange, Dayton chats with Joe Anderson, Recruiting Director, and Caleb Gee, Sr. Driver Hiring Manager at Nussbaum. Drawing from their experience, real-life examples, and comedic humor, Joe and Caleb explain both perspectives and what we can do about it. For those hiring, it's about over-the-top honesty, setting expectations, and really getting to know your candidate. For drivers, it's about doing your research, watching for red flags, and interviewing the company as much as they interview you! Along the way, they also share practical advice for recruiter-driver communication, as well as some hearty laughs reflecting on “interesting” conversations over the years. In 2015, Nussbaum's very first trailer artwork – “Celebrating Faith & Family” – hit the road. In the nine years since, we've released twelve additional graphics, including “Forgiveness Brings Freedom,” “Love Above All,” and most recently, “There is Hope in Troubled Times.” But you may be wondering…..why so many designs? Where did these ideas come from? Why use trailers? Believe it or not, the story begins in 1990, when Brent Nussbaum (now our CEO) left the family business he would eventually run. In today's exchange, Brent discusses how that decision introduced him to the world of trailer graphics and eventually led him back to Nussbaum. He also shares how a Nussbaum driver and the book Loving Monday transformed his view of business and inspired him to make Nussbaum a ministry. But the story doesn't end there…….We're also joined by Brent Hanson, Founder of The Moriah Foundation. His story and ministry played a crucial role in creating the various graphics you see on the road today. Together, Brent and Brent answer questions like, “Where did the slogans come from?” “How did they go from idea to finished artwork?” And “Why are they so impactful to viewers?” Press play for a very special and inspiring episode of Terminal Exchange! Despite our best medical advances and enjoyable distractions, death is inescapable. But two thousand years ago, as he comforted a beloved friend whose home had been visited by death, Jesus Christ proclaimed: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”In this special Easter message, Nussbaum Chaplain Jim Revelle helps us face the taboo topic of death – not with resolve or human courage, but through faith in the power of Jesus' death and resurrection.
