In this episode of S&C's Critical Insights, Connor Schillerstrom from our Sydney office, John Anselmi from our Melbourne office and Sam Saunders from our New York office discuss how Australia and the United States are working together to address climate change. Connor, John and Sam provide insight on how Australia might benefit from the Australia-United States Climate, Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Transformation Compact, which was formed this year to provide a framework for the countries to work together to reduce the cost of clean energy technologies and lay the foundation for the global clean energy economy. They also discuss the possible designation of Australia as a “domestic source” for purposes of the U.S. Defense Production Act, which would provide benefits to Australian companies operating under certain contracts with the U.S. government. Finally, they provide an overview of loans and tax credits under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act that are available for Australian companies with critical minerals and clean energy projects in the United States.
In this episode of S&C's Critical Insights, Inosi Nyatta, Isaac Wheeler and Sam Saunders discuss the unanswered questions about requirements and qualifications for receiving tax credits for clean energy projects under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA, which was passed in August 2022, is the largest investment in clean energy in U.S. history and is expected to unleash a new wave of energy transition projects across the United States. It introduced new or enhanced credits for renewable energy, clean electricity investment and production, energy storage, clean hydrogen, electric vehicles, clean technology manufacturing, sustainable fuels and carbon capture. While the IRA has opened up numerous opportunities for energy transition projects, there are still a number of uncertainties, including final rules on direct pay and transferability, the potential impact of the OECD's Pillar Two rules and how debt ceiling discussions may impact availability of IRA tax credits.
In this episode of S&C's Critical Insights, Inosi Nyatta, Craig Jones and Sam Saunders discuss new and proposed regulations involving critical minerals in the United States and European Union. Critical minerals, referred to as critical raw materials in the EU, are generally defined to include, among others, cobalt, graphite, lithium, manganese, nickel and rare earth minerals and are key components to clean energy technologies (in particular batteries) and other high-tech products. In the United States, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which was passed in August 2022, provides an estimated $369 billion in investments in energy security and climate change programs and also creates significant tax incentives for critical minerals to be extracted, processed and/or recycled in the United States or countries that are trade partners with the U.S. Proposed by the European Commission in March 2023, the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), aims to secure the EU's supply of critical raw materials and bolster Europe's own extraction, processing, refining and recycling of strategic raw materials. The CRMA would create a European Critical Raw Materials Board, set EU-wide targets for annual consumption of strategic raw materials, and establish a streamlined permitting process for strategic projects. However, unlike the IRA, it does not provide any additional funding.
It has been quite the start to the Korn Ferry Tour season for Sam Saunders, who stopped by the program today to discuss his 2023. Sam and Shane catch up on the year, Sam explains why this season is his make-or-break year, the mentality of being the "old guy" in a sea of youngsters, and plenty more. Shane and Sam discuss how broadcasting the Zozo Championship helped Sam see things from a slightly different perspective, what his grandfather shared with him when he was grinding his way through the mini-tour world, and just how handy Sam is around the house (spoiler: he does electrical!). A big thanks to Sam for taking some time on a big and busy week to chat. Welcome to Emily T Gail Talk Story ...August 2022. Sharing some thought about my enthusiasm for the PGA TOUR Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit at Detroit Golf Club last week with one of my favoirtie players Tony Finau winning. Tony used to be at Turtle Bay here in Hawaii. In this first show that I have recorded in a while I share some of my own stories. Correction due regarding my Sam Saunders story. Sam is Arnold Palmer's grandson. I said son. One of the stories I told was about seeing Sam when he played in the Rocket Mortgage Classic year one (2019). I first met Sam when he was about 6 years old and Arnold used to fly his own Cesna Citation if I remember correctly here for the Mauna Lani Senior Skins on ABC that ran before the Super Bowl. Used to meet Arnold and his guests and family when they would arrive at the airport.- Arnold in the pilots seat. Arnold's son in law Roy would caddy for Arnold. Sam is son of Roy and Arnold's daughter Amy. . About the time I met Arnold I met Mark Rolfing, who at the time was with ABC. Now with NBC/Golf Channel. That was well over 25 years ago and Mark and his wife Debi have been friends ever since and over the years been very good to me. Mark always has time to talk story with me. Mark was at the Rocket Mortgage Classic with Golf Channel last two years and has been great about letting me lead some of my fellow Detroit media friends to him. We both enjoy weaving Detroit love and Hawaii aloha. At the end of this show is a talk story Mark and I did in January at the Senior PGA TOUR Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai here on the Big Island of Hawaii. Mark and I talk about his long time efforts to grow junior golf here in Hawaii with the recent merging of the First Tee Hawaii and HSJGA. I was a junior golfer in the 1960's and that is why I have been able to shape a way to stay around the game in my own way. I love how Mark acknowledges my doing it my way. I learned it from him. He has been a pioneer in many ways. Thanks for listening. Aloha.

PGA Tour player Sam Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, and 35 players hit the ceremonial tee shots one after the other to start the tournament. Holly spoke with Saunders right after the opening ceremony and asked him what this week means to him as so many have come out to honor his grandfather. “Obviously so special … out here all these pros here making the effort to come out and pay tribute to my grandfather … that means the world to me and I know it meant the world to him. He's looking down and smiling at all of us. Holly asked him what it would mean for him to win this tournament. “I can't really put that into words. To be honest, I'd rather win this tournament this week than any one throughout my entire career. It would be so special. And I'm going to do my very best to try and make him proud.” Holly mentioned an event last night that MasterCard announced that it is extending its sponsorship of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The purse has also increased to $8.7 million for the 120-player field. A 3 year winner's exemption over the standard two years. Also the implementation of Arnie's Army charitable foundation as the host organization. Holly also spoke with PGA Tour champion Brandt Snedeker about how he met Mr. Palmer. Tried to get 5 minutes with him and ended up talking with him for two hours about anything. There will probably be another person like him. He had that gift and I don't think I've met anyone else like him … and I've met some people who are unbelievable, like Bill Clinton who had the same kind of quality that when you walk into a room when he spoke to people to make them feel comfortable and that I Holly asked Snedeker who has a connection with MasterCard what it would mean to him to win this event. “It would be a huge moment in my career. It would probably be the highlight of my career at this point. Just because of what Arnold meant to me personally and what his legacy is to the game of golf. I couldn't think of a better way to honor him than to go out here and try to win this week for him knowing what kind of relationship we had. Snedeker is going to play the first two round with Saunders this week and looks to help him out. Holly spoke with Annika Sorenstam at the Arnold Palmer Invitational too. She asked Annika what it meant to be a part of this event? “It means a lot to be a part of this,” she said. “What Mr. Palmer has started … he has really changed golf. Just to be able to come here and continue his passion for the game … he's touched so many people … he's had such an impact and we have to continue … I feel like we owe him this, to continue this and I am very proud to be a part of the tournament in a little way.”

Preview show with another show tomorrow night, Thursday, between 6-7 p.m. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from the API press center to talk and give his thoughts about this tournament. It's a little bit odd, the news conference today took place at the same time that Arnie would usually do his. Obviously he couldn't do it last year. Always in the past it was always a highlight to get his thoughts. There are some concerns going forward and how the tournament will fare. There are so many factors involved. The four majors and Jack and Arnie's tournaments. That has changed with the WGC events, the FedEx Cup playoffs. There are so many events to choose from and the players can't play them all. Holly asks Bob who he thinks in this field has a chance to win? Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler or defending champ Jason Day. Bob likes Stenson a lot. He's always in contention at this event.

Holly G and Rich B are back in the studio on the eve of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, picking up after a winter break. Holly and Rich open season 7 talking about Jordan Spieth's win at Valspar Championship at Innisbrook. Ironically, when The Golf Insiders signed off for the year, Spieth had just won the Hero World Challenge at Isleworth. Holly talks about how Spieth was phenomenal in the Snake Pit for the final three holes. He won on the third hole of a three-man playoff defeating Patrick Reed and Sean O'Hair. It was Spieth's 4th professional win and his second on the PGA Tour. Holly was at the press conference at Bay Hill and has some thoughts from Matt Every on his win at the Arnold Palmer last year and what followed. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from Bay Hill to talk with Holly and Rich. Bob wrote a story about parody and the first time winners this season. There have been 17 tourneys over 16 weeks and there has NOT been a repeat winner this wrap-around season. Bob talks to Holly about how great Jordan Spieth is already and his play at the Valspar ... and he is only 21. If he stayed at Texas, he'd be just graduating this year, instead he's already won $10 million. Bob says that Spieth's second win answers a lot of questions and doubts that some naysayers had. Holly talks to Bob about Sam Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson. Bob feels that how close that Saunders came in Puerto Rico helps Saunders cause in retaining his Tour card. Just three weeks away from the Masters, Rory McIlroy is making his first appearance at Bay Hill. Holly shares some audio from Rory's press conference at Bay Hill. Jeff Babineau, Golfweek, calls in from Bay Hill, talking about getting back out on the tour covering. Jeff talks about some of the pros tuning up prior to the Masters. Holly talks to Jeff about Gator alum Billy Horschel and how he has been since closing out the season last year. Rich asks Jeff about Ian Poulter's play of late and what may be the issue. Poulter put 5 balls in the water at the Honda. Jeff feels that Poulter needs to channel the Ryder Cup Poultz and bring it to the tour. Holly asks Jeff about Ryan Moore's troubles. Babineau says that a lot of the guys have not been able to close the deal on Sundays like we were used to seeing Tiger do in the past. "It's really hard to win on the Tour or to win anywhere out here." Holly has audio from Arnold Palmer being asked why Bay Hill and why Orlando? Palmer said that they were there before Disney. Todd Lewis, Golf Channel, calls in from Bay Hill and talks about the conditions of the course. Todd breaks the news that Bubba Watson had just pulled out of the Arnold Palmer Invitational due to the death of a childhood friend. Todd talks to Holly and Rich about Rory and Tiger and where they are with their games at this point. Todd believes that no one is rooting for Tiger's return at Augusta more than Rory ... because that will take a lot of the focus off of Rory and maybe make it a little easier for him to focus on the possibility of a grand slam. Todd talks about some of the back history of Patrick Reed. "You do a lot of things when you are 17-21 years old in college. Judge the man you see now and not the boy from his past." Holly asks who, if any of the winners on the season so far, will be the one who'd be most likely to win at the Arnold Palmer. Todd says Jason Day. "He's been playing really well and has the game for this course." Holly mentions the Arnie series that the Golf Channel put together that was a huge hit when it first aired. The show re-aired last night and then was followed by the fourth installment in the series, Arnie & Me. Holly G was featured in the series telling her lifelong story about The King!

Saunders celebrated his second start of the season with pie and mash.....wonder how he'll mark his appearance on the E(R)C podcast? Enjoy!
Allison Fishman joined me with CAU alumni Sam Saunders for an afternoon of acoustic un-plugged music. Normally Allison and for that matter, Sam would have electric guitars in hand but for this show it was all acoustic.Allison is such a great songwriter and I love her voice. She had so much fun playing with Sam and he with her. I am sure you will enjoy this show.
Sam Saunders and "The Sam Saunders Machine" are a kick ass rock and roll band making big waves in Chicago. He and his band have their own unique sound, but the influences of Eric Clapton, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones are obvious. CAU had the opportunity to record Sam "unplugged" and we had a blast!!! I know that you will enjoy his music. You can see Sam live on August 17th at Phyllisand#39; Musical Inn in Chicago, but look for this act to break out on to the National scene soon. They are that good.
