SBF's arrest followed receipt of formal notification from the United States that it has filed criminal charges against SBF and is likely to request his extradition. As a result of the notification received and the material provided therewith, it was deemed appropriate for the Attorney General to seek SBF's arrest and hold him in custody pursuant to our nation's Extradition Act. For this episode of The Future Is A Mixtape, Jesse & Matt discuss the slow, spiral reckoning of Ridley Scott's much-celebrated and increasingly influential film Blade Runner, whose long and winding road lead to a sequel, Blade Runner 2049. While detractors of the original film might feel they're viewing a sexy-time noir featuring little more than robots and porn-jazz, for the entranced, the film's hypnotic imagery and ruminations on universal themes like humanness, memory and belonging still keep many cineaste-hearts aflutter. After the blockbuster ascendency the Star Wars franchise and SF's increasing maturation as a cinematic genre, Ridley Scott's formerly “one-off” was released in 1982, and quickly disappeared at the box office and inside film critics' confused typewriters. However, unbeknownst to many, this leftover lasagna turned into the cult film of cult films. Blade Runner would later grow an organic fanbase from Arty Nerds, Noir Addicts and Cyberpunks, all of whom would despoil their underoos over spinners, unicorn origami and whether Deckard was or wasn't a replicant. Seeing blinking cash-registers in their eyes, Hollywood producers sought out Denis Villeneuve as their architect to extend the franchise with Blade Runner 2049. Your meta-guidance-counselors, Matt & Jesse, will provide a spoiler-bonanza of both films, weigh out Villeneuve's sense of cinema, and examine how the sequel's repeater bleakness short-circuits better questions and ideas. The co-hosts will finally imagine how this film might be retrofitted or retold, narratively speaking, and roust its viewers into utopian dream-scaping. A few weeks ago we visited with our good friend Sarah Emerson for an Amp’d Interview where she shared with us the What Joy Project. For this week’s Wise Words, we ask Sarah about the release of her album two years ago and how she determined whether it should be released as a Christian or secular work. It’s something than many artists question as they consider where their work will have the most impact. We also promised to update you when we had new information on the project launch. Here’s what we know: The launch is March 21st , and the launch party will be held at Urban Hardwoods in downtown Seattle – for those of you who live the Northwest or are interested in travel. Tickets are $35 and go sale February 20th with proceeds given to What Joy Project after costs.By the way, Sarah shared with us the following short note:FrequencyFM,Thank you so much for the support! We are excited to announce the What Joy Project Campaign launches March 21st. First in Seattle, then all over the world via the internet and Social Media. A few years ago, we had the blessing of being introduced to Sarah Emerson, singer-songwriter and worship leader from Seattle, WA. At the time, we interviewed Sarah for The Songwriters Cafe (now www.KingdomSongs.org) as she promoted her album Sarah Emerson and the Radio Kings. The album was a unique endeavor wherein all proceeds benefited the Destiny Orphanage in Uganda, Africa. In our latest Amp’d interview, Sarah brings us up-to-date on her efforts and introduces us to the What Joy Project.
