She also co-founded a market research startup, Dermintel. Before working in business, she studied International Development and Human Rights at the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service. Although she had a huge passion for development and human rights, she wanted to venture into something different and decided to enter the corporate world. The more she learned about entrepreneurship, the more she realised the advantages of the entrepreneurial lifestyle, including time flexibility, which she felt was lacking in corporate life. In 2020, the covid pandemic forced Tomoko to pause Dermintel's development, allowing her to focus more on her passion for digital transformation. Digital transformation can be complicated, but Tomoko loves unpacking the complexity to help organisations succeed. For her, it's not just about technology: it's also about governance, innovation, culture change, leadership, and competency development. As part of her book, Hacking Digital: Best Practices for Implementing and Accelerating Your Business Transformation, Tomoko Yokoi shares more about how to implement digital transformation in the workplace by giving insight into: How to create the best business model that has value How to lead digital transformation New technologies in digital transformation Resources: Book: Hacking Digital: Best Practices to Implement and Accelerate Your Business Transformation Article: Emojis In The World Of Work Memorable Quotes: “So many opportunities exist, it really depends on how you can target what you need when you need it.” “It is important to think of inclusivity when you think about innovation.” If you want to tune into another conversation with a founder who left corporate to start a business, check out our episode with Robert Piconi, co-founder and CEO at Energy Vault. Today, the podcast starts with a prayer from our guest, Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD (Humanities); East-West Psychology MA (both from CIIS), and now adjunct faculty at CIIS. Glenn speaks about his time as a student at CIIS in the 1980's and shares ideas that have gone into his current EWP course Original Thinking: Land, Language, and Consciousness from East-West and Indigenous Perspectives. We discuss foundational cosmological, psychological and philosophical ideas from Glenn's trilogy of books Original Thinking, Original Politics, and he reads from his forthcoming book Original Love. Glenn states that western thought places origin in a point in time, as in the temporal event of the Big Bang, while North American Indigenous thought identifies origin as a place, the latter being the eco-psychological basis of Glenn's work. We discuss Glenn's idea that “originally all thoughts were prayers” and ask how in contemporary times we can reconnect with the cosmogenesis of our culture as an unfolding spiritual journey of interconnectedness. The conversation goes deep, asking what our collective prayers are in contemporary times, grappling with how to overcome the shadow of modernity and colonialism, and begins to formulate holistic Indigenous and ecological models of how to create new future potentials. Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, of Basque, Aragon Spanish, and Jewish descent, is an educator, ecopsychologist, and two-time Nautilus award winning author of Original Politics: Making America Sacred Again (SelectBooks, 2020) and Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity, and Nature (North Atlantic Press, 2015) and is currently writing Original Love, the third book in the trilogy. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, Parry is currently an adjunct faculty member of the California Institute of Integral Studies, the president of the think tank: Circle for Original Thinking www.originalthinking.us and the host of the Circle for Original Thinking podcast. Parry organized and participated in the groundbreaking Language of Spirit Conferences from 1999 – 2011 that brought together Native and Western scientists in dialogue, moderated by Leroy Little Bear. Parry now regularly moderates dialogues for various organizations and has appeared in several documentaries, including SEEDing Change: A Retrospective of the Language of Spirit Dialogues and Journeying to Turtle Island, a biographic film exploring David Peat's life and participation in the dialogue circles by Spanish filmmaker Miryam Servet. This special episode documents our experience harvesting in Burgundy during Vendanges 2022. We spend our time picking grapes for our dear friends Tomoko and Guillaume of Chanterêves. Tomoko walks us through every step of their winemaking process -- from selecting in the vineyards, to fermentations, pressing, and barreling down-- allowing us to experience the metamorphosis of a great wine. Towards the end of harvest we stop in at Domaine Bruno Clair in order to get a vintage perspective from the Côte de Nuits.  This unique episode is meant to capture the sounds and feelings of a true Burgundian harvest -- so you should expect it to sound a bit different, and a bit more off-the-cuff than our typical episodes. We'll be back with our full exploration of the Côte d'Or with a full episode dedicated to white burgundy next month! This episode is created by Brenna Quigley, Nick Canepa, and Jeff Alvarez. With support from Esa Eslami, Ali Massie, and our Grand Cru Patron Steve Lipin. This episode is sponsored in part by Hautes Côtes, a boutique travel and event planning company based in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. This is either an interview with a musician I know from the jazz scene or I also create episodes where I listen back to previous shows and chat about some key points that my guests bring up. There are so many great ideas and concepts that these amazing musicians bring up and I would like to share with you some of my favourites! Tomoko Omura Tomoko is a jazz violinist from Japan based in NYC. She has a great bop sound and writes really exciting original music. She is currently working on her 3rd studio album with some top players in New York.  http://www.tomokoomura.com/ Gareth Ballard Check out Gareths amazing workshop via the link below. He makes lovely violins and is a talented repair and restorer of violins. He is great with set ups and sound adjustments. http://violinslondon.co.uk/ The music at the beginning of the episode is Tomoko Omura playing Relaxin at the Camarillo by Charlie Parker The outro music is my band Latchepen playing Benny Golson's 'Whisper Not' https://www.latchepen.com/ I feature English violinist John Pearce playing 'Lester Leaps in' by Count Basie at the very end. http://www.johnpearceviolin.com/
