Season 5 Episode 16: The Last Stand Yeah, that's right, Deej continues to come close to murdering some System Lords only to back off at the last minute, ruining the whole situation. Very Frustrating! Small compensation at least that he totally misses out on that nonconsensual body-sharing shit over in the crystal caves when Lantash simply has to have Lt Elliot or he's “gonna die”. Also, maybe the System Lords are sort of…losing their collective shit? OK, eat your young, but why are you biting them from the middle and making a big ol' mess? Who eats like that? It's giving Darryl Hannah eating a lobster in Splash cannibal vibes. ----more---- 00:00 - Intro 5:45 - 24 Seconds 7:31 - Episode Debrief 1:05:39 - Were We Comforted 1:06:39 - Yeh Neh or Meh 1:09:04 - Next Episode 1:10:29 - ComeTrya! 1:13:08 - Get To Know Your Hosts 1:24:29 - Outro

Holy moly, the 553rd ice-fish of Have You Ever Seen kicks off the Christmas season as Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau bring their crabby charm to the title characters. But the 2 comedy legends are only Grumpy Old Men with each other. They're quite sweet to everybody else, especially to each other's kids and---most of all---to the new babe in town, Ann-Margret. The love story between her and the 2 old coots is not an angle we fully believed in, partly because the decades-long feud is is the REAL love story going on here. Darryl Hannah and Kevin Pollak help make this movie work as well as it does because neither the script nor the direction by Donald Petrie are anything special. Still, we laughed, we ho ho ho'ed and we felt the cold in that small Minnesota town. So don't be a putz or a moron, but DO bring your recently-repaired fishing pole to a frozen lake as we give you the ins and the out(take)s of Grumpy Old Men. We are in the final stretch of Christmas in November and doing the classic movie Steel Magnolias. Yes, this is a Christmas movie (in Tamara's eyes, while Corinne calls it Christmas adjacent). It has a star studded cast including: Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Shirly MacLaine, Darryl Hannah and Olympia Dukakis to name a few. With such powerhouse actors we don't need to tell you what the movie is about, you should just watch it! In this episode we ooze bad Southern accents, use Bless Your Heart as a threat, and Corinne considers this film an emotional colon cleansing and Tamara wonders if it will flush the holiday spirit out of her (probably not). This movie made us laugh and cry and declare that 'pink is our signature color,' so we hope you join us and the other Southern Belles as we recap Steel Magnolias.
HAPPY HOUR FLIX is a podcast all about the movies you love. A nostalgic look at what we grew up watching and how they still impact us today.Hop aboard the steel train as hosts Steven Pierce and Matt Mundy journey back to the film set of the unforgettable "Steel Magnolias." With actor Tom Hodges as our guide, we peel back the curtain to reveal the camaraderie, challenges, and triumphs that made filming this dialogue-rich movie an unforgettable experience. We'll explore the intricacies of working with Robert Harling as well as the genius behind the script, and challenges of bringing this much-loved storyline from stage to screen. But first, at the behest of the film's star-studded and influential (not mention beloved) actresses, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Darryl Hannah, Shirley MacClaine, we take a happy hour break with our friends over at MISGUIDED SPIRITS, for a delightful concoction by Max Stampa-Brown, Food & Beverage Director for The Garret Group, which operates a number of awesome bars and restaurants in NYC. On this roller coaster ride, we invoke none other than Tom Skerritt, recounting some of his fond recollections of working with the legendary Dolly Parton and director Herbert Ross. Finally, we dive headfirst into examining the importance of emotional depth in movie characters and the potential influence deleted scenes could have on the film's narrative. We also probe deep into the dialogue and production design, highlighting Louisiana's culture's essence. To add some excitement, may "spill the beans" on Hodge's iconic role in "Heavyweights." Twenty years ago, the hype was building for the coming fall release of this, hyped up as "The 4th Film from Quentin Tarantino." Only a strange thing happened on the way towards its release....the director and the studio (Miramax) realized that there was SO much story and so much movie, it had ballooned into an epic of more than four hours! :o So the decision was made to split the movie into two different volumes: Volume 1 came out in October of 2003 and Volume 2 came out six months later in April of 2004. So it became an extended SAGA of one assassin (Uma Thurman playing "The Bride") waking up out of a coma now seeking revenge against the gang of fellow assassins who tried to murder her. The other assassins were played by Vivica A. Fox, Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, and Darryl Hannah....and they were all lead by Bill played by David Carradine. And of course, our hero's ultimate goal is to.....KILL BILL. HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLEIF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME by David Crosby (1971, Atlantic)The Reaper continues its rampage, cutting swathes across the aging population of musical pioneers. Last week it was Jeff Beck, yesterday David Crosby. In fairness, it was actually amazing that the Croz lived as long as he did. He had diabetes, and In 1994 underwent a liver transplant (paid for by Phil Collins), after suffering for years with Hep C. But despite a notorious reputation for drug abuse that would cripple even a hardened junkie, David kept forging an unfettered path, making enemies with his thoughtless taunts, enduring break ups and reunions, yet still creating some of our greatest music with his frenemies, solo, and for the last mile in collaboration with his long-abandoned and rediscovered son, James Raymond.David Van Cortland Crosby, the son of Academy Award Winning cinematographer Floyd Crosby, was a California boy who became foundational to the California folk-rock soundtrack of our generation, and despite the fact that near the end of his life he had to stay on the road and sell his catalogue to pay off his mortgage, those songs will reside forever in the Laurel Canyon canon. Crosby was a notoriously difficult character who burnt nearly every bridge he ever crossed. His bandmate from the Byrds, Jim McGuinn steadfastly refused to work with him again despite David's constant imprecations to reunite; he boldly dissed and insulted Neil Young's soul-mate Darryl Hannah after the death of Neil's first wife Pegi, and somehow alienated his biggest supporter in life, Graham Nash. But, despite this, musician Melissa Etheridge solicited his sperm to make her babies. Maybe because, trumping all the difficulty, David's harmonic acumen was unmatched and a divine gift from God. So, there he undeniably stands: a twice inducted Rock n Roll Hall of Famer for founding two of the most important groups in Rock history. And, this etherial, transcendent solo effort, recorded with the aid of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Graham Nash, along with members of The Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead represents an artist whose questing musical imagination was always and eternally of a deeply spiritual nature. Humans are so complicated. As Dylan said: “I contain multitudes,” and David Crosby was an exemplar of that.
"Women want him for his wit. The C.I.A. wants him for his body. All Nick wants is his molecules back." This week, JD and Randy checked out the 1992 film, "Memoirs of an Invisible Man". Starring Chevy Chase, Darryl Hannah, & Sam Neil in a John Carpenter Film.
Thirty-five years ago, writer/director Oliver Stone released the follow-up to his searing Vietnam War drama Platoon which came out the previous year winning Best Picture among several other Oscars.....and this time, his focus was on stock brokers? :o Of course his late father had been a stock broker so this was a very personal subject for Stone and he even brought back the star from his previous film to star in this one....Charlie Sheen. Sheen plays our main protagonist Bud Fox who's an aspiring young stock broker who idolizes one of the most exciting new titans of investment banking, Gordon Gekko who is played by Michael Douglas. One day, he ingratiates himself into Gekko's world and ends up trading for him.....and what results is one of the most quoted and often imitated adult drama/thrillers of the 1980's. Much of what makes it so iconic is the lead performance by Douglas who would win Best Actor at the Oscars. It also stars Martin Sheen, Darryl Hannah, John C. McGinley, and the late great Hal Holbrook among several others. Carbon monoxide poisoning, an on set "T-shirt war" and a very, very grumpy Harrison Ford are but a few hurdles Ridley Scott and company ran into while making the 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. In part 1 of this two part episode, we'll investigate Rutger Hauer's sex appeal, the downsides of writing a script set entirely at night, and that one time Harrison Ford told Darryl Hannah to fish hook his nose just so he could feel something.
The script for Splash, a romantic comedy where a jaded New Yorker falls in love with a mermaid, had been kicking around Hollywood for a while before Disney became interested. Ultimately, it became the first project released by Touchstone Pictures, a brand that Disney created in order to produce movies that fell outside the carefully-cultivated Disney identity. Starring relatively unknown actors Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah, Splash defied expectations to become a critical and commercial success. It also has a weirdly extensive reach into our wider culture; Disneyland's new log flume was named Splash Mountain in order to promote the film, Ariel was made a redhead in 1989's The Little Mermaid in order to distinguish her from Daryl Hannah, and Splash was arguably the thing that popularized Madison as a girl's name. Ryan is joined by Cheryl and Sylvan for an extensive look at this high concept 80's movie. Talking points include the natural charisma of Tom Hanks, the movie's descent into chaos in its third act, Daryl Hannah's affinity for mermaids and vegetarianism, Ron Howard's workmanlike direction, how John Candy makes his character endurable, and why Splash got an Oscar nod for its screenplay. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-valentine3/support
Overlapping Dialogue's 2nd Annual Spooktober Spooktacular marches on with a duo of films that will be sure to scare your socks off, either through genuine terror or the fact that they're genuinely terrible. Up first, George Romero's 1985 conclusion to his legendary zombie "trilogy," Day of the Dead. We dig into a discussion about why exactly this least celebrated entry of the three is perhaps the series' most narratively and thematically daring offering and find every opportunity to crack up at the ironically excessive performance of Joe Pilato as Captain Rhodes. Speaking of unhinged hilarity...our second film, Addams Family Reunion is most certainly the former in its unsuccessful attempt in achieving the latter. Listen as we puzzle over the appeal of the creepiest and cookiest family in all of pop culture, take stock of the 90s craze of TV to film adaptations, try deciphering the plot of this half-baked disaster, and take every ounce of solace we can in a far-too-good old geezer turn from the great Ray Walston. Welcome to the Season 2 opener of Fabulous Film and Friends where this week we will be throwing down with a Battle of the Blade Runners , as we compare Ridley Scott's 1982 sci fi giant Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Darryl Hannah, William Sanderson, M. Emmet Walsh, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, Brion James, Joe Turkel and James Hong with Denise Villenueve's 2017 follow-up: Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, Jared Leto, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, , Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, Edward James Olmos and Sean Young. Joining me are the two helped launch this podcast one year ago, Roseanne Caputi and Dave Johnson, DDS. Set in a once futuristic, but now alternate 2019 Los Angeles megalopolis, Blade Runner centers around Rick Deckard, a Sam Spade-style, world weary ex-LAPD officer from a unit known as Blade Runners, who is pulled out of retirement to hunt down five artificial humans known as replicants. Replicants are illegal on earth and used as slave labor in space exploration and colonization and five top of the line, Nexus 6 replicant outlaws led by super soldier Roy Batty, come back to earth in an attempt to extend their life span, which is limited to four years. Aiding Deckard in his pursuit of the fugitives is the alluring Rachel, executive secretary to Dr. Eldon Tyrell whose corporation manufactures replicants. Upon meeting Rachel and administering a device on her known as Voight-Kampf, an empathy test used to detect replicants, Deckard learns that Rachel herself is a replicant, and while cold to her initially, Deckard ends up falling in love with her. After Deckard confronts and kills three of the wanted replicants, -- with Rachel's help—he is pummeled and beaten by Batty and nearly left for dead until Batty has a change of heart and saves Deckard from a precipitous fall off a towering building. Battered and bruised, Deckard learns the true meaning of empathy and he reunites with Rachel. The pair escape Los Angeles and go into hiding, unsure of how long they have together. Set 30 years later --after a great famine and information blackout, as well as a buyout of the Tyrell Corporation by a blind tech giant/savior named Niander Wallace, Blade Runner 2049 follows Blade Runner Agent K, who after a seemingly routine run-in with an erratic old style Nexus 8 replicant named Sapper Morton, discovers a link to events of the past that could change life on earth as they know it: the buried remains of the Replicant Rachel, who died after giving birth to her and Rick Deckard's child. With that discovery, Agent K, a new-style tamed replicant himself known as “Joe” to his AI girlfriend Joi, embarks on a journey to find the identity and truth of Rachel and Deckard's human/replicant hybrid offspring, believing himself to be that very child that will start a revolution. This quest will lead K not only to Deckard but to a face-to-face confrontation with himself and his place in the universe. Who is the winner?

Behold the mermaid! A male sex fantasy in romantic comedy's clothing, Splash is a straight-up head-scratcher at times, but Darryl Hannah brings it as Ron Howard's version of Ariel, John Candy is perfectly effortless as a lovable letch, Eugene Levy is cracks us up with his neurotic paranoia and Tom Hanks...well, as Allan, he's got a bit of a mean streak. It's modern-day mermaids, butt merkins and lobsters for lunch. Jump on in, but just to warn you - the water's a bit gross.

We're wrapping up Kill Bill and Season 2 of Whine and a Movie all in one episode. When it's right, it's right. Kill Bill Vol. 2 has it all. There's fight scenes, emotion, backstabbing, eye plucking, astonishingly long training sequences. What's not to love? We pair it with a Riesling of all things from Kung Fu Girl, and it was so good. We were worried that it would taste like alcoholic sugar water and it absolutely does not. 100% would buy again.Metacritic Score: 83/100Movie Sync Notes: We rented the movie on Amazon Prime. We start "Kill Bill Vol. 2" 4:46 into the pod, and push play on part two 51:20 into the pod.
In 1987, Big Poppa Oliver Stone released Wall Street, a movie about Wall Street… This aptly named flick tells the story of a young stockbroker, Bud Fox, who is trying to land one of the big-time investors, Gordon Gecko. Gecko shows Fox the path to success, but he'll have to sacrifice his morals and challenge his relationships to get there. Starring Charlie Sheen, his daddy Martin Sheen, Michael Douglas, Darryl Hannah, and Terrence Stamp, Wall Street was made for $16 million, made $43 million at the box office and became an instant classic. But, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent, ask whether greed is good and how to get tiger blood as we determine if this flick is bullish or bullshit.

This week we tried out a new format—a panel discussion about the 1987 classic Oliver Stone film, Wall Street. It starred Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas, Darryl Hannah and a whole bunch of other amazing actors. The movie, which was a morality tale about financial excess, both celebrated and condemned the era's obsession with money and over-the-top luxury (clearly that’s over!). In addition to cocaine, caviar, and steak tartare, it asked us to consider: How much is enough? How do you define success? Is greed, for lack of a better word, good? My friend A.M. Have you ever asked yourself, “what if The Little Mermaid and Pretty Woman were one movie and Eugene Levy was there?” Whether the answer is “yes” or “not really” or “what in King Triton’s trident are you talking about?” then we have a movie for you. This week we talk Splash, the romp where Tom Hanks, Darryl Hannah and a cast of zany characters take to the high seas! Listen up, and rate, review, subscribe!
In our latest episode, the guys spend an unsurprising amount of time talking about the continuing fallout of the Coronavirus and all of the changes to the film landscape for 2020. The entire Marvel franchise is shuffled and squeezed up, numerous more movies come to early digital home releases, and there is hardly a film not yet moved somewhere else except for 'Tenet' and ''Bill and Ted Face The Music' at this point. After talking about the films delayed, the guys spend a small amount about celebs with coronavirus and how important this info is to the public, plus sadly those who have been taken away from us from both the disease and other natural causes in recent weeks. Moving onto other news we look at the upcoming changes to Disney and Disney Plus, plus their absurd censorship of Darryl Hannah's now fur covered backside in Splash on the platform. We talk about James Gunn a lot, due to his constant awesome posts on twitter and also what people think are 5 perfect films due to him and other filmmakers inputs on the subject. We talk about Sam Raimi working on Dr. Strange and how he'd already foreshadowed the character before when dealing with Spider-man. Edgar Wright's next-next film based on an upcoming book, Rian Johnsons non-space movies, and the why and how Chris Farley was cast as Shrek before his death. Ryan also looks into why some films have certain scenes that only appear in random cuts after an extra scene is reported to appear in a Harry Potter film no one hardly remembers ever seeing. All this and much more news. We also spend a lot of time pondering the world of the stunt performers and how if no one values them enough in the public spotlight after the outcome of Olivia Jackson's lawsuit after her near-fatal accident on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Where are the boundaries and why don't the Oscars have a technical stunt award category? With so many delays and just a few trailers to talk about the guys then review some recent screenings including Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Guns Akimbo, Sonic The Hedgehog, Bad Boys For Life, Bloodshot, a retro screening of Midnight Run, and Ryan's better half, Ann, joins us to talk about Lady Bird in the lead up to her watching the most recent Little Women film. Finally, as almost always, the guys sit down for another round of 'Films... but badly' - and Ryan almost gets an upset with one of his craftiest ideas yet. Tune in to find out more about what took place! Please like, subscribe, share and enjoy! And as always many many thanks to Martin (Rammy) for his wonderful work on our graphics, www.rammy.at

Things get actiony in our latest entry. "Kill Bill Vol. 1" is a great movie and that tells an epically violent revenge tale that, let's be honest, we all want to see. Bill and his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad deserve everything they get. Yay! Of course it doesn't tell the whole story. That's why we'll have to revisit the world of The Bride for Vol. 2 at some point. Until then we'll enjoy the bottle of The Legend of Big Bill Red Blend 2017. According to the bottle Bill is "ridiculously big." I don't know what that means. Movie Sync Notes: We start the movie 3:43 into the pod and push play on part two at 1:04:09.
This is DAY 27 of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s what you need to know on Monday, April 6, 2020 UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to the ICU after his COVID-19 symptoms worsened. A statement from No. 10 Downing read: "The prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas' Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus. Over the course of [Monday] afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital." Canada’s top medical authority says says non-medical masks can help stop the spread of COVID-19. Theresa Tam warns that a non-medical mask doesn't necessarily protect the person wearing it. More than 240 thousand Canadians have successfully applied for federal financial relief through the government’s online portal. The Prime Minister also says there will be more aid for those who don’t qualify for current relief programs. The chair of the New York City Council’s health committee said on Monday that officials are considering temporarily burying people who die from the coronavirus in local parks. Scientists in the UK raise alarm over 17 and a half million ‘unreliable’ COVID-19 home test kits
Leader of the Libertarian Party of Canada, fireman and dedicated family man, Tim Moen makes a regular practice of finding his moral centre. He saw through the propaganda matrix, which led him to the philosophy of liberty. He noticed that using force and violence is only legal if you’re a government leader. As a side hustle from his fireman gig Tim did film work with Neil Young and Darryl Hannah that changed his perception of what’s really happening behind the scenes with Hollywood and popular music. In this interview he tells this story that led up to being elected leader of the Libertarian party. Don’t Avoid Stress Unlike the message of many in the world of health and wellness Tim says, “I don’t avoid stress, it’s how I grow and develop.” He handles it with an attitude of gratitude, and credits how he starts his day with changing the day for the better. “The first thing you do when you prey is give thanks.” Feelings Are Bad Tim was taught early on that feelings are bad, especially for men. He’s since understood that they aren’t to be tamped down. They are there to learn from and get curious about. He matches the story in his head with unmet needs and comes up with gold that way. We talked about how he deals with projections, praise and attacks. And especially given his leadership position he knows how power corrupts. His strategy for holding onto integrity and morals is by having the right people in his life. Stuck in a Hoarder’s Fire The turning point that led Tim to his current perspective on life was when he nearly died losing his way in a fire in a hoarder’s apartment. Following his miraculous rescue he had an awakening. He resolved to only do what was meaningful to him — to be the best husband, best father, best role model, best teacher, and the best example to others. Mental Health and the Victim Narrative Tim describes how to overcome the victim narrative told by industrial culture around mental health challenges. In rescue professions such as his her reports that they are systemically encouraged to consider themselves victims. But Tim doesn’t buy it. His Gory Initiation - Trigger Alert Then he told one of the goriest story I’ve ever heard. It was a trial by fire, a baptism by fire. He shows how the victim industrial complex led him to a breakdown that didn’t need to happen, and how he became heroic by treating his traumatic experience like the rite of passage it was. To finish we talked about the complimentary roles of masculine and feminine in the family and the Masculinity Project he is starting to be a positive role model to men in the making. Musician, broadcaster and all round friend of the show Emmett Cruddas AKA roof access(@roof__access on Twitter) joins Jack (@gapesology) once again to run through the rest of the filmography of director supreme Bernard Shakey AKA Neil Young. We talk about Young's later directorial projects: the well-intentioned but inept anti-Iraq War documentary CSNY/Deja Vu, and the strange mimed eco-rock opera Greendale, plus Young's four films in collaboration with the great director Jonathan Demme, and one each with Hal Ashby and his current wife Darryl Hannah. It's a heady extravaganza of wild rock and roll music, illustrative clips from the movies and dope criticism from Emmett & Jack. Big up Mr Neil Young and buy his new album with Crazy Horse, COLORADO, out in the next few days.
High Spirits, you say!? More like spirits who were high as a kite! This was a surprising campy wonderful discovery! Holy crap the Guttenberg was in full effect and Darryl Hannah was ever so convincing as a ghost!

Try on your best Irish accent, fill up a bowl with beans (but not too full), and pull your flashy, splashy green suit out of the closet for next Sunday as shazbazzar and JediShua travel back and forth through time in TechnoRetro Dads. We Love Our Cereal The Roving Spoonster finds places to eat cereal all round the United States while shazbazzar risks injury to his still recovering gums with a bowl of Cap’n Crunch’s Chocolatey Berry Crunch splashed with milk. A singular question arises: “How powerful are the Soggies?” Saturday Mornings: Video Games Cartoons Sure, you remember Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros. Super Show, but were you around when Pole Position seemed like Speed Racer and Knight Rider made a guest appearance on M.A.S.K.? Was the Legend of Zelda the adventure you craved? Maybe you’re one of several EarBuds who witnessed Kevin splash into the games like Flynn into TRON in Captain N: The Game Master. Whatever your interest, from cute to captivating, ‘80s and ‘90s Saturday mornings (and weekday afternoons) were able to capitalize on consumers’ interest in video games whenever and wherever possible. SuperFriends and EarBuds remember some shows that made a lasting impact on them back in the day. Let’s All Go to the Movies: Splash Tom Hanks is rescued by Darryl Hannah as John Candy and Eugene Levy seek their own interests in this thirty-five year-old romantic comedy that had us rolling as kids and continues to provide a good time in Ron Howard’s Splash. This very well might have been your father’s The Little Mermaid if he was part of Generation X. Star Wars Scrapbook In anticipation for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, shazbazzar and JediShua cover what was happening in our galaxy this month in the ‘90s with the likes of Steroid Luke, Hahnold Swartzenegger, and Yoda Garcia and other memories from twelve to twenty-two years ago when Star Wars was making a big splash twenty to thirty years after its inception. Feedback The EarBuds and RetroZappers are making their own splash on TechnoRetro Dads this week as Stuffedy tries to let us in on a free play point-and-click adventure online and Joey of the Animanicast finds his Indiana Jones role-playing game book as well as Palpatine and Shmi in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. What if iconic horror director John Carpenter directed SNL founder Chevy Chase in a re-imagination of the sci-fi, horror remake of the 1933 film “The Invisible Man”? Well wonder no more! “Memoirs of an Invisible Man” continues this season’s theme of “Monsters Are Universal”. It’s not a comedy. It’s not a thriller. But it is a mess. Darryl Hannah is the lovely female lead. Sam Neil is our bad guy. Steven Tobolowski is our ray of sunshine. Michael McKean and Patricia Heaton have beach sex with their clothes on. There are some things you can’t un-see, even when they are invisible. This movie is one of those things. It’s pretty bad, but we had a lot of fun talking about it. The post Pick Six Movies S3: Episode 4: Memoirs of an Invisible Man appeared first on Legion.
Steamy teen sex in a steel mill town over an amazing new wave soundtrack. Kio Stark brings this hidden gem of the early mid-80s to our attention. Aidan Quinn makes his screen debut as a rebel on a motorcycle who catches the eye of good-girl cheerleader Tracey. Mild violence and sexual situations ensure. You'll never think about career day the same again.
Stuntwoman and actor Zoë Bell is known for doing the stunts that other people wouldn’t dream of, in tv shows like Xena: Warrior Princess and films like Kill Bill. Zoë catches up with Comedian Greta Lee Jackson and shares that these big roles didn’t come without a few fails along the way…most notably a fail involving a lampshade and Darryl Hannah’s face.
"The liberation of your capital is not the liberation of your soul" THis Week on The Earth Wants YOU! Reverend Billy and Savitri D are back in the studio together after a long summer touring Greece, Switzerland, California and New York. They recap the Summer from Burning Man to Neil Young and Darryl Hannah's wedding to Tourists Against Trump and Californian Fires. News Of The Natural World strikes a somber tone, Orangutans are extinct and Monsanto is still the ever diminishing Devil.
Ron Howard directs this delightful romantic comedy that would score one of the biggest hits of 1984, SPLASH. Tom Hanks, Darryl Hannah and John Candy would all propel to a more secure stardom after their roles in this screwball but tender love story between a man who has trouble finding the right woman until a mermaid steps...or swims...into his life.

For this episode of The Future Is A Mixtape, Jesse & Matt discuss the slow, spiral reckoning of Ridley Scott's much-celebrated and increasingly influential film Blade Runner, whose long and winding road lead to a sequel, Blade Runner 2049. While detractors of the original film might feel they're viewing a sexy-time noir featuring little more than robots and porn-jazz, for the entranced, the film's hypnotic imagery and ruminations on universal themes like humanness, memory and belonging still keep many cineaste-hearts aflutter. After the blockbuster ascendency the Star Wars franchise and SF's increasing maturation as a cinematic genre, Ridley Scott's formerly “one-off” was released in 1982, and quickly disappeared at the box office and inside film critics' confused typewriters. However, unbeknownst to many, this leftover lasagna turned into the cult film of cult films. Blade Runner would later grow an organic fanbase from Arty Nerds, Noir Addicts and Cyberpunks, all of whom would despoil their underoos over spinners, unicorn origami and whether Deckard was or wasn't a replicant. Seeing blinking cash-registers in their eyes, Hollywood producers sought out Denis Villeneuve as their architect to extend the franchise with Blade Runner 2049. Your meta-guidance-counselors, Matt & Jesse, will provide a spoiler-bonanza of both films, weigh out Villeneuve's sense of cinema, and examine how the sequel's repeater bleakness short-circuits better questions and ideas. The co-hosts will finally imagine how this film might be retrofitted or retold, narratively speaking, and roust its viewers into utopian dream-scaping. Aired Sunday, 11 December 2016, 10:00 PM ET Lisa Loving Dalton spent years working with or stunt doubling for a galaxy of celebrity stars including Madonna, Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn, Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman, Darryl Hannah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Williams, Robert Downey Jr., Liam Neeson, Cher and more… Yet, what stands out in her new book Falling For The Stars: A Stunt Gal’s Tattle Tales is the indomitable spirit she assayed, despite the extraordinary price she paid for her stellar career including misogyny, a miscarriage, and a life-long back injury. And each juicy story she relays in her fascinating chronicle, brings home an important life lesson for the reader—one that she learned the hard way. Beginning as a naïve, insecure actress, trying to use extra work and stunts as a way into the motion picture industry firmament, Dalton rises to become one of the top stunt professionals on the East Coast, ultimately reaping the economic rewards and the ego gratification—while denying her true desire to act full time. Dalton appeared in more than 200 films, television shows and commercials in New York, Hollywood and Texas, including work in Ghostbusters, Money Pit, Crocodile Dundee, Married to the Mob, FX, Legal Eagles, and Splash on the big screen and ER, HBO’s Carnivale, Dr. Quinn and Melrose Place among her many TV credits. Yet, Falling For The Stars—already an Amazon.com #1 bestseller– also provides a magical behind-thescenes look at the stars and moviemaking through the eyes of a woman who went toe-to-toe with the Hollywood elite, or at least walked in their stunt shoes. She knows first-hand the caring and humanity of such luminaries as Streep, Redford and Cher. Dalton reveals what it took to hang over cliffs, get hit by a moving car, drop from five stories up, dodge a bridge full of speeding cars—and to ignore the Universe’s more gentle prompts that it was time to quit and follow her passion into acting fulltime or teaching acting. The resulting career-ending spinal injury has a story of its own, how she researched medical and alternative paths that form the heart of what she shares with the world today. She is now certified in NLP, Hypnosis, and Neurological Repatterning—ways she learned to heal. With humor and candor, Dalton inspires the reader to rise above one’s fears and limitations and go for the gusto. In her book, it is very clear that she knows full well that tomorrow is promised to no one and there is no gift greater than the present. And the present is what you make of it by finding the hidden gifts. Today, she helps actors burnish their gifts by performing and teaching acting around the world. From a bullied, dyslexic, messy, freckle-faced, klutzy pixie, Lisa Loving Dalton grew into a statuesque and skillful stuntwoman, actor, director, teacher, author, filmmaker, leadership and life coach, and ceremonial minister. Always seeking and finding the silver lining, she has made the most of whatever life threw at her. She says, “I spill stuff, trip and drip all of the time so I made a career out of it. My advice: Embrace what is as perfect.” About the Guest Lisa Loving Dalton Lisa Dalton appeared in more than 200 films, television shows and commercials as an actor and stunt player in New York, Hollywood and Texas. AMAZING RACER (aka SHANNON'S RAINBOW) which features Darryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Louis Gossett Jr., TOM ATKINS, Steve Guttenberg and ERIC ROBERTS. It's.. uh.. something else. But that's not all! We follow that with the inspiring modern classic ASSAULT ON WALL STREET from the gret Uwe Boll, which has Dominic Purcell killing a bunch of Wall Street fat cats because they were indirectly responsible for ruining his life. It's like THE BIG SHORT on STEROIDS except NOT GOOD. Also, Eric Roberts is there. TUNE IN! Pretty beautiful. ————— Now the big Eric Roberts news of this past week was Eric appearance on the a show we've – oddly – never mentioned on this podcast. It's LOST GIRL, which just started its final season with Eric Roberts' TENTH appearance as HADES. Lost Girl focuses on the gorgeous and charismatic Bo, a supernatural being called a succubus who feeds on the energy of humans, sometimes with fatal results. Refusing to embrace her supernatural clan system and its rigid hierarchy, Bo is a renegade who takes up the fight for the underdog while searching for the truth about her own mysterious origins. I know nothing about this show aside from the fact that it's Canadian, but I *do* know that eventually I'll have to watch at LEAST ten episodes of it. ————- We also discussed the upcoming theatrical release of Frank D'Angelo's feature film SICILIAN VAMPIRE. This week we are exploring the intersection of two powerful systems at work both within and outside of the home. Food and identity are intricately linked. The saying, "You are what you eat.", reverberates now more than ever as the food we eat is produced and transported from farther away and made from ingredients that are synthesized and almost impossible to pronounce.A recent article in The New York Times highlights our increasing disconnection to our food system explaining that what you eat has everything to do with how much money you have, particularly when it's cheaper to buy a package of Twinkies than a bunch of carrots. This article also looks at the power of U.S. government subsidies to determine what we and our children are eating - from our choices at the supermarket to those in the school cafeteria. Those who decide to grow their own food are taking back the ability to make the right decisions for themselves - what fruits and vegetables to plant and how to organically grow them. For almost 14 years, the South Central Farmers were doing just that. This 14 acre farm located in South Central Los Angeles provided 350 families with the ability to grow their own produce allowing them to significantly subsidize their family food budget and offering them a meaningful connection to the land that is often impossible to have in an inner city environment. This urban oasis stood out -- satellite views of LA showed two large rectangles of green surrounding by isolated industrial warehouses and dense urban poverty. It was a hub of community involvement spurring several other initiatives around health, the environment and economic justice issues.Unfortunately, the farm now lies fallow. This month marks the one year anniversary of the farmers final eviction from the land. After years of protests, fund raising efforts and the involvement of several high profile celebrities and activists, including Joan Baez, Darryl Hannah and Leonardo Dicaprio, the land was given back to the developer who had left it derelict years before the City of L.A. had made it available to the farmers. Police force and bulldozers were used to rid the land of both the farmers and their creations. Protestors were arrested and the 14 biologically diverse acres of trees and plants were razed. Here to talk more the South Central Farmers and their continuing struggle to make urban farming an option for the people of South Central L.A. is Tezozomoc. He is the elected leader of the original South Central Farmers and the manager of one of the ongoing cooperatives that emerged from the farm's activities. To learn more about the South Central Farmers, check out the link below.
