It's refreshing to listen to a podcast that meets moms right where they're at, providing a space for reflection and discussion on topics that are often left unspoken.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to tackle the things that moms think about but may not always talk about. The hosts are not afraid to go "there" and dive into raw and honest discussions about the challenges of motherhood. They explore controversial topics with grace and provide permission for moms to want more for themselves. The guests on the show also bring fresh perspectives, adding depth and variety to each episode.
Another great aspect of The Mother Plus Podcast is its ability to inspire and empower moms to embrace their own passions outside of motherhood. Through their own experiences, Stephanie and Stacey encourage listeners to prioritize their hobbies or creative outlets, reminding them that self-care is important too.

Send us a textIf you need to tackle the chaos in your home (with some accountability), join us for Decluttering with Body Doubling HERE.ADHD Cliff's Notes:We speak with Emily King, Founder and CEO of Faye, a company that matches busy families with advisors to help manage the mental load. Emily created Faye after becoming a mother and realizing how difficult it was to keep up with her family's personal to-do's, and how little support there was for parents. Faye fills a much-needed void: providing affordable help for busy families who do not have the means to hire full-time personal assistants but benefit from fractional help—it also creates part-time gig opportunities for women to monetize a skill set they typically don't get paid for. Emily breaks down the type of work a Faye assistant can do—imagine someone who can "think like you" and act on your behalf as project manager. Here's what's on the table: Staying on top of appointments, scheduling, booking travel, coordinating activities, organizing school emails, finding and coordinating professionals like housecleaners and handymen, saving money by cancelling subscriptions you don't use, shopping around for insurance, activities, providers, etc. While Faye can help with practical solutions, the mental health component is profound: the relief of knowing someone else is carrying the burden with you can be extremely emotional. "We have been set up to fail." Modern motherhood feels like an impossible math equation. We talk about the trap of moms being expected to work full-time and juggle full schedules while also being expected to manage the mental load. We discuss the added struggles of having ADHD in addition to being a parent in this busy, digital era, including decision fatigue and executive functioning challenges. The belief that we should be able to do all of this ourselves, despite the impossible standards, is what keeps so many moms from asking for help. Emily sees a shift that is a reason for hope: more and more women are willing to say that they deserve it, they don't question it, and they are willing to outsource this type of work. Make sure you are using your energy the right way—it matters!About Emily King:Emily King is the CEO and co-founder of Faye, a service designed to help parents get more done with the help of trusted family advisors. These advisors handle everyday tasks—like scheduling appointments and organizing family travel—so moms can breathe. As a working mother herself, Emily knows firsthand how impossible the juggle can feel. Her journey to launching Faye was fueled by her own experience navigating parenthood while excelling in demanding leadership roles—like serving as VP of Growth & Digital at Blue Bottle Coffee and more than a decade across consumer tech brands like Nextdoor, Good Eggs, and LivingSocial. Send us a textIn today's episode, we're diving into the life and legacy of Martha Stewart—not just as a media mogul, but as a woman who changed the way we think about homemaking. Inspired by the recent documentary on her life, we're asking big questions: What does it mean to be unapologetic as a woman? How can homemaking become a source of power rather than a chore? And why do we critique ambitious women differently than men?Join Stacey in this solo episode as she explores Martha's story and what it reveals about perfectionism, gender biases, and the impossible expectations placed on women today. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Opening Thoughts:Why Martha Stewart's documentary evokes such strong emotions—pride, frustration, and everything in between. How her story is not just about her but about us, as women and moms navigating modern expectations.Who Is Martha Stewart? Why Does She Matter? From model to Wall Street broker to homemaking icon: a look at Martha's journey to building a media empire. How she redefined homemaking, turning it from a "get through it" task into an art form—and why that matters. The cultural shift she led in the 1980s and 90s, elevating homemaking during a time when it was undervalued.Work Ethic or Perfectionism? Why Martha's Confidence Polarizes:Exploring the gender biases that make us see ambitious women as "unlikable" or "too much."Why qualities like being direct, bold, and unapologetic are admired in men but critiqued in women.Stace's reflections on the discomfort and admiration Martha's confidence inspires.Homemaking as a Source of Power:How Martha reframed homemaking as a way to care for yourself, not just others.Stace's journey with ADHD and homemaking: why creating an intentional home environment matters for mental clarity and peace. The double-edged sword of Martha's perfectionism: empowering or exhausting?Reflection: What Martha Means Today:Stace's small but meaningful takeaways from the documentary, like making the bed and adding personal touches to her home. How Martha's story teaches us to respect our spaces and ourselves—even if our version of homemaking isn't “Martha-level.”The broader lesson: balancing ambition and likability as women in today's world. What now?Watch the Martha Stewart documentary if you haven't already.Reflect on your own relationship with homemaking and perfectionism.Share your thoughts on Instagram and tag us (@motherpluspodcast) or email us at hello@motherplusser.com—we'd love to hear your takeaways!Resources Mentioned:Netflix Documentary: MarthaRituals Library (Link to your Rituals Library offering, if relevant to the episode!)ADHD Mom's Club: https://www.motherplusser.com/offers/vuz3iqfT/checkoutMOTHER PLUS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mother_plus_podcast/MOTHER PLUS FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/motherpluspodcastMOTHER PLUS PERMISSION SLIP: https://www.motherplusser.com/Permission-SlipMOTHER PLUS NEWSLETTER: https://www.motherplusser.com/signup-pageMOTHER PLUS BLOG: https://www.motherplusser.com/blog

Send us a textWe interview mother + artist Christie Russert about how motherhood and ADHD tendencies have impacted her art. We discuss the impact motherhood has on the ADHD woman's ability to focus on tasks with constant divided attention with children. Untangling the overwhelm: what is motherhood and what is ADHD? It can be difficult to separate out symptoms that are a result of neurodivergence instead of parenting. Christie talks about the challenges of being an artist with attention challenges: focusing on completing a task, making decisions, and staying consistent. How does motherhood impact flow? Writers and artists and creators and performers and athletes live for the feeling of flow, and it's rough when it dries up. We ponder whether the ADHD brain craves and thrives on "flow states" because of neurotransmitter regulation issues and the dopamine rush we get from creative flow—is that why so many artists, musicians, and writers have ADHD? "Something's gotta give"—making choices as a creative mom means sacrifice, learning to rein in the idea machine of your brain and let go of things you don't prioritize because of your own values. We talk about alignment: do our values line up with where we are putting our time and energy, and why do we feel frustrated when we aren't getting results with things we actually don't care about? Seasons of motherhood and art: We talk about the importance of tapping into your intuition to work with and honor the seasons of your life as your daily schedule, needs, and capacity for creating change. Send us a textThis season, we've been been exploring the impact of rituals on the ADHD mom brain. In this Stace and Steph episode, Stace asks Steph to describe her evening ritual practice."My evening ritual began as a survival technique." As Steph has been immersed in an intense, stressful season—divorce, ADHD diagnoses for the whole house, kid going to college—she explains the grounding impact her evening ritual has had on her nervous system. Steph describes her practice of "neurotic self-care:" If it isn't a little frenetic and calculated right now, it's not going to happen. Motherhood is not a season of "accidental self care," and as our daily needs and rhythms fluctuate, we prioritize some choices at the expense of others. Steph talks about some of the more tedious aspects of her self care, including micromanaging her daily tasks, using time blocks, and staying organized so she has space to relax—give your "tomorrow self" the gift of knowing that your "today self" has things under control. Even when part of your ritual is "boring," like planning or getting organized, you can make it feel luxurious by setting a sensory stage: bedtime playlist, candles, and incense can go a long way to help your nervous system unwind. Steph shares her "quadrant journal magic," where she tracks what she did for her: body / spirit-heart / career-purpose / home. Stace comes up with the mind-blowing terminology: "To-DONE list." The quadrant journal helps Steph to: stay balanced over days and weeks; be mindful throughout the day; stay accountable with her choices, and celebrate her victories with a sense of pride. Steph shares her magic formula for evening rituals: bedtime playlist, candles, incense; make the "to-do list" and the "to-done" list, meditate, read, and fall asleep to a guided yoga nidra recording. Send us a textWe meet health and nutrition coach Lauren Carpenter, and she shares how her own childhood health issues—we discuss how powerful it is to make changes during adulthood that will also impact our own children and ripple outward. Food is medicine: We discuss the inextricable link between our physical health and our mental and emotional health, and the role food can play in how we feel. Lauren talks us through the gut-brain connection, and we discuss the role food plays in being the literal fuel that keeps us together when we are falling apart. As women with ADHD, our neurotransmitter regulation is challenging, and Lauren shares with us how exercise can calm hyperactivity, improve focus, assist with emotional regulation, and improve sleep.Strength training is medicine for the brain, and can reduce cortisol, helps regulate blood sugar, and regulates hormones. The best part? Even a small amount can help. Lauren gives us tips to make fitness feel more doable: it doesn't need to be the intense cardio that we grew up with, a little can go a long way, and try it for 5 minutes, and if you don't like it, you can stop (most of the time, we'll choose to keep going!). Processed food, protein, fasting, liquid breakfast, caffeine, and blood sugar: Lauren tell us everything we need to know. Spoiler alert: protein is our best friend for building muscle, which helps our brain. Overwhelmed? Send us a textCliff's Notes Version:We welcome Dr. Christine Li, Procrastination Coach, back to the Mother Plus Podcast to tackle the topic of clutter and its impact on the ADHD woman. It's always about much than the actual clutter—Dr. Li reminds us that we are all different and it's about accepting ourselves without judgment or shame and figuring out what helps us as individuals find more ease and productivity. We want our home—and our "energy home"—to feel more hospitable for ourselves. Clutter reminds us of the things that make us feel bad about ourselves, which is why we often procrastinate dealing with it—which often backfires!Stace and Steph share their morning and evening rituals with Dr. Li and get her input on how to incorporate decluttering routines into daily rituals. Dr. Li emphasizes the impact of changing our mindset and the stories we tell ourselves—it requires some flexibility and experimentation. "Less convincing and more believing." Slow, steady progress is key. Envision your goals, track your progress, and celebrate the small steps. How to stop the cycle: consider the engineering of your home and reimagine the functionality of each space, and think about how you may be replenishing the clutter by not limiting your consumption. The power of a "challenge": when we break the mindset wall, join in community, and take on clutter—which could bring a sense of shame or dread—and make it fun, we're going to be more successful. Dr. Li shares her free 5-day challenge that beings Monday, 9/16. Join the Re-Energize Your Home 5-Day Challenge, hosted by psychologist and Procrastination Coach, Dr. Christine Li, from September 16-22. This challenge will be your solution to finally gaining control over your space and reclaiming your energy. What You'll Get from This FREE Challenge:Daily Inspiration & Guidance: Engage with Dr. Christine Li in a private Facebook group and on Zoom, where she will walk you through the steps to declutter your home and mind.Powerful Strategies: Learn proven techniques to release the physical clutter that's been a thorn in your side, and open up space for more energy, confidence, and clarity.Supportive Community: Connect with like-minded individuals who are on the same journey to a more organized and fulfilling life.
Send us a textWelcome to Season 4 of the Mother Plus Podcast! We are BEYOND excited to kick off this new phase of our show and our motherhoods. ADHD, meds, overwhelm, kid's diagnosis, and the rituals that keep us sane -- we have SO much to talk about. Here's a quick recap of episode 121:Stace and Steph recap the summer with a highlight (and lowlight) reel, ADHD updates, and our feelings on the switch from summer to fall. We chronicle the origin of the podcast and how it has evolved since 2021, including a preview of what this season's episodes will look like. Stace shares how she stayed sane with self-care practices during a summer with her kids and without ADHD meds; a return to her morning ritual was a lifesaver. Steph talks about how her daughters' summer ADHD diagnoses impacted her emotionally and how it's served as a brand new lens for the household and a measurement of when to try harder and when to let go of a low priority task. Rituals to bookend your day: While Stace depends on her grounding morning rituals, Steph looks forward to her evening practice of unwinding, journaling, and planning to keep her calm and grounded. We talk about the fact that taking care of yourself with grounding rituals is NON-NEGOTIABLE. When you are an overwhelmed ADHD mom, keeping yourself grounded is essential, not optional. We share the new direction of our 4th season—while we still remain our imperfect Stace and Steph selves, we want to help give you some tools and strategies to feel better in your busy lives and ADHD brains. As we remember and honor the different versions of our "podcast selves," we are excited to move from last season's "season of discovery" into a new season where we try our hardest to help you understand and protect yourself and thrive in a world that maybe wasn't designed for you, and most importantly, help you remember who you are!MOTHER PLUS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mother_plus_podcast/MOTHER PLUS FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/motherpluspodcastMOTHER PLUS PERMISSION SLIP: https://www.motherplusser.com/Permission-SlipMOTHER PLUS NEWSLETTER: https://www.motherplusser.com/signup-pageMOTHER PLUS BLOG: https://www.motherplusser.com/blog
Today, Stacey brings you a solo episode to talk to you about what summer break has looked like for this people-pleasing ADHD mom. She talks about how you can learn from her mistakes, and save yourself from burnout, if you, too, struggle with making everybody around your happy all the time - but especially your children. Recap:What happens when people pleasers become moms?We all know the importance of putting up boundaries and teaching your kids to “figure it out” for themselvesBut when you're a people-pleaser you can know this, but still continue to give everything to your children (and leave nothing for yourself)RSD can cause people to overreact to perceive rejection or criticism and people with RSD anticipate the rejection. Every person they meet is somebody new to figure out and then to make happy. Because those of us with RSD struggle so much with boundaries, it can quickly lead to burnoutCurrent parenting philosophies teach us to be “gentle” with our children, but people-pleasers can take this too far A sample day of a mom who is constantly trying to please her kids (a cautionary tale)The difference between Mom and Dad when setting boundaries with their kidsLet's revisit the age-old question: Should I play with my kids? (Check out one of our most popular episodes where we so boldly claimed "We Don't Like Playing With Our Kids.")**CLICK HERE to join the ADHD Moms Club**About Stacey Hutson:Former Chicago-girl, Stacey Hutson, now attempts to live the Colorado life in Golden with her husband and two still slightly helpless daughters, ages 4 and 6. By now she thought she'd be totally immersed in motherhood, happily sitting on the floor “doing voices,” trying desperately to hold on to every precious moment. But instead, she found herself on that same floor reminiscing about the days when she was a writer, an ad girl, a paleo food blogger, and a karaoke superstar. Her nervous system was overwhelmed, her house was a disaster, and she couldn't understand why she was so nostalgic for her fun, spontaneous pre-mom life. That's why she created the Mother Plus Podcast with Stephanie Sprenger to give a voice to the too much moms who feel like they are failing at motherhood, and don't want to fail anymore. Her late ADHD Diagnosis has opened her eyes to the fact that understanding her brain is the key to finally enjoying her motherhood. Steph shares how her life has changed since her ADHD diagnosis, both at work and at home. First, a med update: "I don't feel the meds when I take them, but I feel it when I don't." How finding the right formula has been the key to achieving balance, good sleep, and improved focus. Aside from meds, Steph talks about the element of self-awareness and understanding that has helped with executive functioning, organization, negative beliefs, and procrastination when managing the household as a newly single mom. ADHD can be a superpower: Steph shares how understanding her neurodivergence has been the key to reinventing and supercharging her career. Never underestimate the power of passion when it comes to success. Remember, the ADHD brain is wired for interest, not importance. Self-acceptance and allowing ourselves to choose a path that fits for us can get us unstuck and unlock our professional potential. Steph shares what it felt like to witness her daughter's recent ADHD diagnosis and how healing it was for her as an adult who went undiagnosed for decades. ADHD is NOT an excuse; it is a map. Don't forget that you are always allowed to change your course, and understanding yourself provides a clearer path. Join the ADHD Moms Club HERE! In our conversation with Dr. Sharon Saline, she talks about the origin of the sense of failure so many people with ADHD experience, and how it can be traced back to harmful messaging we've endured since childhood about how we are defective in some way or not okay. Dr. Sharon challenges us to change our inner dialogue and talk to ourselves with compassion, the way we would a close friend or a child in need.Dr. Sharon breaks down what emotional dysregulation looks like and how it shows up for women with ADHD in terms of overwhelm, time management challenges, working memory, and self-evaluation, aka, the way we perceive and speak to ourselves. People with ADHD tend to have "big feelings." Dr. Sharon explains why people with poor working memory also struggle with emotional control. Dr. Sharon guides us through the biology of ADHD and how brain structure as well as neurotransmitter function both play a role in emotional regulation. Dr. Sharon shares with us the mind-blowing concept of the "Takeback of the Day." She walks us through the protocol and "rules" and how transformative it can be in relationship repair. We talk about what it looks like when an ADHD mom "loses it," how terrible it feels, what's often at the root of it, and how to make it right. Dr. Sharon walks us through "do-overs" and repair when children are involved. In order to avoid the "Boy who cried wolf" cycle of damage and repair, Dr. Sharon encourages us to notice the signals that we are about to lose it so we can course correct before we go over the edge—she shares her STAR method which can be revolutionary for stopping the cycle of losing it. In this Stace and Steph episode, we talk about what summer looks like for the ADHD Mom: The Good, The Bad, and the very, very Ugly. Transitions are tough for women with ADHD, and the summer transition can be especially jarring. Summer can be such a struggle to balance "work" and "fun" and the result can feel very overwhelming. Who is in charge here?? The lack of structure and routine and the variability of summer days is stressful for ADHD women who struggle with time management, executive functioning, and working memory. Navigating our complicated relationships with our to-do lists becomes a special kind of hell in the summer. We remind ourselves of Dr. Li's advice to change our "dread language" around the tasks we have created "incompetence narratives" around, telling ourselves stories and creating drama rather than reminding ourselves that the task is absolutely do-able, isn't as bad as we think, and we have the skills we need. Stace shares her moments of joy and magic and Steph celebrates her 1980s summer victory and how she's teaching her kids to have a "good joy ethic."We lament the lack of village and 1980s/90s mentality where we essentially raise our free-range kids together and brainstorm ways we can implement a little of that magic. We speak with neuroscientist Brooke Quinn, who is currently getting her Master's degree in sleep medicine from Oxford University, about sleep and the ADHD woman. Women with ADHD can be predisposed to not get good sleep, and inadequate sleep can lead to an increase of ADHD symptoms (even in neurotypical people), so the vicious cycle can be difficult and magnify ADHD symptoms. As a woman with ADHD herself, Brooke has been a pioneer in advocating for more research about sleep, women, and ADHD, and how they intersect: she goes down the rabbit hole for all of us who don't have the knowledge or bandwidth! Once again, we echo the refrain we've discussed with so many professionals on our show: So many of us have flown under the radar, felt alone, and have experienced a lack of understanding and resources. We are stronger when we talk about it!Brooke explains the impact of poor sleep on the emotional regulation of women with ADHD, including lower frustration tolerance, irritability, stress, and anger. Brooke talks to us about ADHD, motherhood, postpartum hormones, rage, irritability, and mood regulation, and also the shame and guilt that happens when we are sleep deprived and lose our cool. Sam shares his experience writing his comedy special -- "Neurospicy: Love, Life, and Comedy on the Spectrum" -- as being both "confronting" as he revisited challenging moments in his life, but also "healing" as he was able to reframe those experiences through the filter of Asperger's. Sam describes growing up without a diagnosis as being "confusing, isolating, and lacking a shared reality," and shares that the process of writing this show has created a shared reality and community. We discuss what it feels like to look back at the years we spent without a diagnosis or understanding our brains, and how there is a balance between grief and relief. Sam and I talk about the role of humor as a masking technique to make yourself palatable to others and feel protected. As we reflect on the grief of looking back on life after receiving a diagnosis, Sam describes the neurological function of the grieving process and how it provides space to create new neural pathways. Sam describes the role of comedy as both an escape and a means of understanding human dynamics and social structures, and shares the function of humor from an evolutionary psychology standpoint, which is to be a proxy for social intelligence. Sam and I hone in on the value of using stand-up comedy to amplify and curate your best qualities but also to "digest and deliver a shared sense of humanity over the worst experiences." It all comes back to creating community and connection.Dr. Sam Shay, DC, IFMCP solves health puzzles for busy, health-conscious moms, mom-preneurs, and adults with Aspergers so that they can exit survival mode and re-enter community. Sam started his health journey from being chronically unwell from age 6-18, stemming from a fraught home and school environment. Starting as a child, he struggled with crippling insomnia, severe fatigue, two addictions (sugar and video games), high anxiety, bad gut problems, chronic spinal pain, and social isolation. He decided to take back control of his health as a late teenager and dedicated his life to natural medicine, functional testing, and re-entering community. Dr. Shay is also a Stand-Up Comic, using clean, observational comedy to educate and entertain. In the second half of our conversation with Dr. Li, she discusses the impact of clutter on our environment and on our mental health. One of the benefits of overcoming procrastination is living without constant stress.Dr. Li emphasizes the importance of not beating ourselves up and being overly critical during the process and to be okay with being who you are. So many of the tasks we focus on are unnecessary—simplifying + choosing not to overreact can eliminate some of that stress. Dr. Li illuminates the dangerous loop of our stories—>drama—>fatigue—>clutter and how easy it is to get stuck there. Toggling between tasks can actually be helpful and beneficial to the ADHD woman. Our bodies are giving us constant feedback, and our systems are always trying to help us—thinking about it from the angle of our nervous systems' attempt to care for and support us can reframe our experiences. "Give yourself a chance to win." Dr. Li leaves us with a positive, inspiring message to encourage success. Today on the show we are honored to have New York-based clinical psychologist, Dr. Christine Li. But you may know her as “The Procrastination Coach.” Dr. Li helps people who are struggling with anxiety, ADD/ADHD, distractions, limiting beliefs and work avoidance to work smoothly and with high levels of productivity. Her coaching process is a blend of mindset strategy, time and emotion management tips, and a deep belief in the power we each have when we treat ourselves with love and good self-care. Dr. Li is the author of the book "5-Minute Self-Discipline Exercises: Stay Motivated, Cultivate Good Habits, and Achieve Your Goals" and is the host of the podcast "Make Time for Success."Declutter your space with Dr. Christine Li in this FREE 5-Day Challenge: https://procrastinationcoach.com/motherplusJoin the ADHD Moms Club here:https://www.motherplusser.com/offers/vuz3iqfT/checkoutMOTHER PLUS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mother_plus_podcast/MOTHER PLUS FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/motherpluspodcastMOTHER PLUS PERMISSION SLIP: https://www.motherplusser.com/Permission-SlipMOTHER PLUS NEWSLETTER: https://www.motherplusser.com/signup-pageMOTHER PLUS BLOG: https://www.motherplusser.com/blog
Dr. Li shares her own history of procrastination and how she thought it was "who she was" as a person rather than a characteristic that was changeable or flexible. Her mission is to spread the word that procrastination is not who you are, but that it's something you can heal that can make your life feel so much better. Dr. Li discusses the importance of becoming your own authority and realizing you can choose to do things differently, and how that opens up opportunities. Mindset is everything: we learn about how shifting away from being stressed, overburdened, and believing negative thoughts about yourself can lead you to the right path for yourself. Dr. Li walks us through the "why can't I stay on top of the laundry?" scenario with some insights and tips, including a focus on changing the "hate language" around the tasks we put off and release the sense of dread. "Clutter has energy." We talk with Dr. Li about the power of releasing energy blocks and how it can symbolically and literally make space for the things that feel good. Don't underestimate the power of creating simple systems for yourself to routinely tackle the tasks you tend to put off. The goal is to "reduce the space between the finish line and yourself."Today on the show we are honored to have New York-based clinical psychologist, Dr. Christine Li. ADHD, high functioning anxiety and perfectionist-based procrastination go together like peanut butter, jelly and banana. We're former hard-working, top-of our class, good girls who masked our high functioning anxiety our whole lives, and then we became mothers, and the masks are falling apart. They are WORN OUT. And we just can't keep them together anymore.Today, I'm going to share a story with you about motherhood and anxiety so you can KNOW for sure that there are others out there like you. You're not alone. And either am I. “My other daughter” was originally read on stage at The Boulder Theater for the national show, Listen To Your Mother. Former Chicago-girl, Stacey Hutson, now lives in Golden with her husband and two still slightly helpless daughters, ages 4 and 6. Stacey wanted to be a mom her whole life. Which is why she was so confused when motherhood was not the rainbows and sunshine she always imagined it would be. Stacey discovered LTYM five years ago when she needed it most. She made a promise to herself that night that she would one day be in the show. Four shows later, she has been here every year, pinching herself, alongside the most incredible cast of women. If you're looking for your people -- the ones who get your time blindness, always-late-ness, obsessive, excited, but easily distracted nature -- then please join us in the ADHD Moms Club. Steph reviews the new Taylor Swift album, The Tortured Poets Department. But this episode isn't really about music or being a Swiftie—it's about women's voices, rage, community, and connection. Steph had a few viral posts that brought up a LOT of issues—namely, why do women sometimes tear each other down? We talk about the "therapy" of Taylor Swift music, from eras of our lives, versions of ourselves, and playlists of grief and loss. And now a few invitations to join us in communities of strong, supportive, authentic women: To FINALLY find "your people" in a community of women that will not judge all your "shortcomings" because they have the same ones, Join the ADHD Moms Club Here!And...Steph is facilitating a creative writing workshop for ALL levels (read: "not real writers" are welcome!) based on Taylor Swift song lyrics + our own stories. I used to be fun—what happened?" In this Stace and Steph episode, we explore what happens when an ADHD mom feels like she lost her fun. ADHD women are before we had kids—we want to reclaim some of the fun of our 20s and 30s that we lost. We all go through an inevitable unwilding and rewilding of ourselves, and as a mom of older kids, Steph gives us a glimpse of how much fun it can be on the "other side."We break down exactly why motherhood with ADHD can be such a challenge and sap us of our fun: the transition to extra responsibility is extra hard on ADHD women. Masking for ADHD women is rough—acting busy, performing, being a Good Girl—but taking the mask off is rough too and can be a recipe for a breakdown. Neither are fun. How can you be the "fun mom" when you're the "bitchy, unhinged mom?" You can't. Getting a handle on your ADHD brain and understanding the way you operate is essential for feeling better, calmer, and more fun. Here is our game plan for getting your fun back: doing "the work" with therapy or meds, finding alone time, connecting with your partner, and seeking out the people who make you feel like you. Guess what? We found a professional organizer who has ADHD. This episode is all about how to actually get our homes -- and our lives -- in a place that makes our minds feel more at peace. But we're not doing it with the typical organizing advice. Because, as you likely already know, that doesn't work for the ADHD brain. Today, Esmeralda Simonelli, Steph, and Stace cover all things organizing and decluttering our way. Here's the Cliff's Notes:Newly diagnosed Esmeralda tells her diagnosis story and how it explained a lot about her dating patternsA woman with ADHD is much better equipped to help a woman with ADHD organizeEsmerelda breaks down how to clean a playroom — a technique you can apply to any roomShe also breaks down how to clean a car for the ADHD brain (you'll love her trick)Her #1 trick for keeping your home clutter-freeThe importance of involving your kids in the clean up (yes, even — and especially for — ADHD kids)The role emotion plays in declutteringHow decision paralysis effects women with ADHDTo find Esmeralda, visit her website:https://getneatnow.com/To find your people, join the ADHD Moms Club here (just in time for our ADHD Virtual Welcome Party on May 9th):https://www.motherplusser.com/offers/vuz3iqfT/checkoutMOTHER PLUS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mother_plus_podcast/MOTHER PLUS FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/motherpluspodcastMOTHER PLUS PERMISSION SLIP: https://www.motherplusser.com/Permission-SlipMOTHER PLUS NEWSLETTER: https://www.motherplusser.com/signup-pageMOTHER PLUS BLOG: https://www.motherplusser.com/blog
When you're a mom, and you surround yourselves with moms telling their motherhood stories, baring their souls, laughing, crying, and being brutally honest, it is a powerful thing. Listen To Your Mother is a national series of live storytelling shows where local writers share their original pieces about motherhood. And today, Steph brings you the piece she read at last year's show. The story is called “Heartbreak And The Young Entrepreneur.” It's all about her young daughter's entrepreneurial efforts, and the disappointment that comes with them. Hard for her daughter, but even harder for mommy to watch. As Steph says,"I am unable to watch my child descend into perceived worthlessness without desperately trying to convince her of her excellence."Tune in for a short but powerful piece that will have you thinking about how you want to empower your own daughter or son.Listen To Your Mother will be this Saturday, May 4th at the Boulder Theater.Click here to get your tickets: https://www.z2ent.com/events/detail/listen-to-your-mother-2024And if you're looking for a place where you can feel seen, heard, and understood by other ADHD Moms like you, click here to join our club: https://www.motherplusser.com/ADHD-mom-club-waitlistAbout Stephanie:Stephanie Spregner is a writer, producer of live storytelling shows, podcaster, editor and facilitator of a writing community for midlife women, and proud curator and promoter of women's creativity, regardless of their life stage, talent, and experience.
