Matthew, Alex (also known as "Where is Jimmy"), and Erin (also known as "A Sapphic Love Affair") dissect the middle chapters of Andor Season 2. The group dives into how these pivotal episodes mark the halfway point of both the season and the entire Andor series, discussing the show's transformation into a sophisticated spy drama within the Star Wars universe. The hosts analyze how Cassian Andor has transitioned from a side character in the first three episodes to now taking center stage. His complex relationship with Bix becomes a major focus, with the hosts questioning whether their relationship is healing or codependent. What began as a seemingly sweet reunion ultimately reveals deep trauma, culminating in a shocking revenge scene that surprised everyone.Key Storylines and Discussion PointsThe hosts examine multiple concurrent plotlines developing across different planets. Saw Gerrera's militant rebel faction introduces bizarre elements like "radonium huffing" that may explain his physical deterioration by Rogue One. Meanwhile, the Ghorman storyline showcases inexperienced rebels making fatal mistakes despite warnings from more seasoned fighters like Cassian. The Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) scenes particularly captivated the hosts, with Syril's complex double-agent role generating significant discussion. The memorable phrase "turn out the lights" between Dedra and Syril sparked playful speculation about their unconventional relationship, while Mon Mothma's careful political maneuvering at an Imperial gala showcases her walking a dangerous line.Additional topics discussed:Did the shocking Dr. Gorst murder scene feel earned or rushed? How does Tony Gilroy excel at writing powerful monologues, particularly Val's heartbreaking speech after Cinta's death? Why was Benjamin Bratt's recasting as Bail Organa jarring for some fans? What connections exist between the rebel base location and The Force Awakens? How do the Ghorman massacre references cleverly incorporate EU/Legends material into canon? What parallels exist between Imperial loyalty oaths and real-world nationalist rituals?Which moments highlight the stark contrast between amateur and professional rebels? The hosts conclude by noting they attended a theatrical screening of Revenge of the Sith, teasing bonus content for premium subscribers in their next episode. This mid-season analysis captures how Andor continues to elevate Star Wars storytelling with sophisticated character development, political intrigue, and morally complex takes on rebellion. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. In this video, Liam and Sanak give their predictions for the next arc of Andor Season 2, set in 3 BBY. They discuss where the primary settings of the characters will be, and whether or not Coruscant may be the best way to have all protagonists and antagonists relatively together, and the possibility of the rumored Bail Organa recast with Benjamin Bratt occurring during this arc. They also discuss the potential for a power struggle between a potentially more assertive Mon Mothma and a weakening Luthen Rael, and where Saw Gerrera and his Partisans could come into play with the move towards the organized Rebel Alliance. Other odd ends, such as Dedra and Syril's twisted romance, Bix and the remaining Ferrix survivors next move, and connections to Star Wars Rebels are also discussed.

"You think I'm gorgeous, you want to kiss me..."We put the cuffs on our Crime Corner July series and throw away the key with our episode all about 2000's "Miss Congeniality"!Sandy B. is on fire in this one, anyone could attest to that. Accompanying her are heavy hitters like Candice Bergen, William Shatner, and of course the effervescent Michael Caine bring a level of panache. And lest we forget, a stunningly hot Benjamin Bratt rounds out the cast with his smarminess.A classic early 2000's comedy, this one pulls all the right strings in balancing comedy and action, while bringing a little bit of that down-home goodness that only Sandra Bullock can bring to the table. But of course, it goes without saying this movie's blatant sexism and objectification of women is on full display and is a product of its time.Despite the flaws, this movie is enjoyable mostly in part to the dynamic and fun cast. Demolition Man is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Marco Brambilla in his directorial debut. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Denis Leary, Bill Cobbs, and Nigel Hawthorne. Stallone is John Spartan, a risk-taking police officer who has a reputation for causing destruction while carrying out his work. After a failed attempt to rescue hostages from evil crime lord Simon Phoenix (Snipes), they are both sentenced to be cryogenically frozen in 1996. Phoenix is thawed for a parole hearing in 2032, but escapes. Society has changed and all violent crime has seemingly been eliminated. Unable to deal with a criminal as dangerous as Phoenix, the authorities awaken Spartan to help capture him again. The story makes allusions to many other works including Aldous Huxley's 1932 dystopian novel Brave New World and H. G. Wells's The Sleeper Awakes.

Aubrey's payments knowledge and her industry experience is incredibly valuable in the cannabis payments space. In addition, Aubrey has a compelling and inspiring story as she's a single mom of three who's led her first startup to profitability in under a year. I love that we can share her inspiring success story in an industry where female executive leadership and business overall have struggled to survive.PayRio is on a mission to normalize and stabilize payments for high-risk sectors, ensuring that businesses, whether they are dispensaries, delivery services, seed merchants, or e-commerce businesses, have access to compliant, fair, and reliable payment solutions. We have a special segment guest today, Jamie Morey, founder of Parents for Plant Medicine – a grassroots advocacy group working to destigmatize and normalize the use of plant medicine and also fighting for the legalization of psilocybin.Culture Corner: I want to recommend a rom-com I watched this weekend with Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt – Mother of the Bride. This week poet and screenwriter Jimmy Santiago Baca joins Jimmy Patiño and me to talk about his 1993 epic Blood In Blood Out. We talk about Jimmy's life story, the challenges facing Chicanos in the 70s & 80s and the film's legacy today. This is a special pod. Hope you like it.About our guests:Jimmy Santiago Baca is a poet and activist of Chicano and Apache descent and author of Martin and Meditations on the South Valley (1987), which received the 1988 Before Columbus Foundation's American Book Award in 1989. In addition to over a dozen books of poetry, he has published memoirs, essays, stories, and a screenplay, Blood In Blood Out (aka Bound by Honor) (1993), which was  directed by Taylor Hackford.Jimmy Patiño seeks to critically excavate alternative imaginings of democratic practice among aggrieved communities in the midst of global capitalism. Concentrating on Mexican-origin and broader Latino/a/x communities at the U.S. Mexico Border and in major U.S. urban settings, his work attempts to dialog about the ways that concepts of race, gender and nation create hegemonic class disparities AND formulate an array of identities that mobilize social movements and initiate class struggles on multiple fronts. His first book, Raza Sí, Migra No: Chicano Movement Struggles for Immigrant Rights in San Diego asserts that important contingents of Mexican-origin activists in the U.S. engaged, across generations, the crisis over the “illegal alien“ through attempts at organizing the Mexican-origin community across differences of national affiliation and citizenship status. Focusing on San Diego due to its vital positioning as both urban and border space where consistent migration and race-based border policing has occurred, the project illuminates a serious challenge to deportation-oriented immigration policies between 1968 and 1986 through the ideological prism of Chicano self-determination. He is now working on a number of other projects, including a study that investigates the conceptualization and historical practice of solidarity primarily through the lens of African American, Chicana/o/x, and Puerto Rican sites of struggle in the twentieth century. Important to this investigation are the ways regional differences and geo-historical contexts facilitated articulations of Black-Brown/Afro-Latinx diasporic solidarities and how these articulations led to counter hegemonic activities and theories of revolution across local, national and transnational boundaries. Through a relational and comparative framework, the study will ground these analyses in historical activities in the Midwest, Texas, California and New York in the burgeoning Black and Brown Power movements at the mid to late 20th century. His broader research and teaching interests include Comparative Ethnic Studies, Chicano/a-Latino/a History, diaspora/transnationalism/borderlands, social movements and political mobilizations, and Cultural Studies.

"I am in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved, and I'm armed! Don't *mess* with me!" We had author and comedian Elizabeth Teets over to discuss the Sandra Bullock classic Miss Congeniality, and HEY I'M GLIDING HERE!  We love a movie in which an otherwise stunner like Sandy Bullock is slapped with some glasses, frizzed out hair and a penchant for tripping over things and suddently we are to believe she's some kind of crone no straight man would give a second look to. We are suspending our disbelief for the sake of comedy and beleive me - Sandy is selling it! FBI Special Agent Gracie Hart doesn't wear makeup, can't walk in heels and in lesser hands this trope might not have worked, but there are some comedic chops throughout this cast. Heavy hitters like Michael Caine, Candice Bergen and yes even William Shatner are doing some great work here. We're not forgetting Benjamin Bratt and his chiseled face - did he go on to play nearly the same character in "Catwoman"? Maybe, but it's all good, he's charming and has some great chemistry with Sandy. Maybe you didn't start this episode thinking you'd get a deep dive into Candy Bergen's backstory (Yes she's the heiress to a ventriloquist fortune!) but hey it's here and now you have some Hollywood trivia you didn't know you needed. Don't worry, we address Ernie Hudson and how he hasn't aged a single day from this movie... he's been added to the list of celebs who took the potion. Oh and we have seen the sequel "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" but the original will always be the superior entry. For this episode, Phil and Liam are joined by special guest Blake Howard, film podcaster extraordinaire and the disruptive innovator behind One Heat Minute productions, to discuss the 1994 action-thriller THE RIVER WILD.Married couple Gail and Tom Hartman (Meryl Streep and David Strathairn) are in the middle of a relationship crisis and on the verge of separation, when they take their young son Roarke (Joseph Mazello) on a whitewater rafting trip. However, their vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter Wade and Terry (Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly), two criminals on the lam, who take the family hostage and force them to aid their escape through the notoriously treacherous Idaho rapids. This is a hugely significant film for multiple reasons. Not only was it one of the first major action movies of the era to have a female lead, but that lead happened to be none other than Meryl Streep! The guys start by discussing the film's ‘Die Hard DNA', and debate whether it's actually closer in spirit to DIE HARD or DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE. They also talk about where this movie fits in among the popular 90s subgenre of ‘yuppie in peril' thrillers, and discuss director Curtis Hanson's eclectic filmography, along with his mastery of suspense and tension.  They talk about the gravitas that Meryl Streep brings to this fast-paced ‘divorce drama', and expound the virtues of David Strathairn, Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, Joseph Mazello and Benjamin Bratt. They dig into what the film is really saying about family dynamics, and how it was ahead of the curve with its exploration of concepts such as gaslighting, toxic masculinity and micro-aggressions. The guys then take their raft down the L.A. river to get to the ‘Die Hard Oscars', before Blake and Liam go mano-a-mano in the ‘Double Jeopardy Trivia Quiz'! THE RIVER WILD trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWew8lWYhtIAt the time of release, THE RIVER WILD is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, Redbox, Direct TV, Spectrum TV and all the usual platforms.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Just over thirty years ago, we saw the unheralded release of this latest futuristic action thriller directed by Marco Brambilla starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes....only it was actually more of a comedy. :o   And Stallone was actually being INTENTIONALLY funny for a change.....and here was Snipes at the peak of his stardom playing a Joker-like homicidal villain....and playing a prominent supporting role was a younger up-and-coming actress named Sandra Bullock who kind of steals the movie?  Yup this movie ended up surprising audiences and critics alike, not only becoming a solid box office hit but building a legacy of being one of the more quotable and meme-able comedies of its era.  It takes place in the not-too-distant future of 2030 in the utopian (?) metropolis of San Angeles where there is no crime, no profanity, and no place to eat out besides Taco Bell! :) A master criminal Simon Phoenix (Snipes) has been released into this environment and they are clearly NOT ready for him....so what better way to take on a maniac than sending in ANOTHER maniac from the past who would be the notorious cop John Spartan (Stallone)?  It's STALLONE vs. SNIPES!   Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

It's Die Hard in the war on drugs! For this very special episode, Phil and Liam are joined by a VERY special guest: actor, writer, director, comic book author, renaissance man and podcasting superstar PAUL SCHEER! That's right, the effervescent host of top film podcasts Unspooled and How Do This Get Made? chartered a helicopter and flew in to join Phil and Liam for an intensive analysis of this mid--90s classic! The film's complex plot is thus: after a close friend is murdered by international drug traffickers, the vengeful US President (Donald Moffet) tacitly instructs his National Security team to launch a series of secret military strikes against the parties deemed responsible. Soon the new CIA deputy director Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) discovers himself to be an unwitting pawn in a covert, illegal war between American paramilitary forces and the Colombian drug cartels. As the carnage escalates, Ryan must find a way to quell the bloodshed and expose the corruption at the heart of his own government.  CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is the third entry in the Jack Ryan film franchise that started with THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. That particular movie was of course directed by DIE HARD helmer John McTiernan, meaning that there is plenty of ‘DIE HARD DNA' in the mix here…but does this motion picture also share some key similarities with Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER? The guys assess its influences and its legacy, while also wrestling with another burning question: is this the ultimate ‘Dad movie'? Paul talks passionately about his deep and long-standing connection with DIE HARD and his youthful love for all things Bruce Willis, and the guys go deep on the film's eclectic creative contributors, that includes personalities such as Tom Clancy, Harrison Ford, Philip Noyce, John Milius and Steven Zaillian. They also discuss the virtues of an outstanding ensemble cast that features the likes of Willem Dafoe, James Earl Jones, Anne Archer, Thora Birch, Joaquim de Almeida, Henry Czerny, Harris Yulin, Raymond Cruz, Benjamin Bratt and Miguel Sandoval. Paul even discusses the part he'd most love to play! The stacked cast makes for a particularly entertaining edition of the ‘Die Hard Oscars', and a tantalizing trivia quiz provides some stimulating brain-teasers…along with a warm and fuzzy moment or two.
