One of the best sequels of all-time as Superman (Christopher Reeve) must fight off three super-villains from Krypton to save the world. We cover both versions of the film directed by Richard Lester and Richard Donner. Co-starring Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, Terence Stamp, Sarah Douglas, Jack O'Halloran, Ned Beatty, Jackie Cooper, and Marlon Brando (in Donner's version).
Evan is off this week, so Megan regales Dave with a tale so strange, we thought we'd never hear it on Spoilerpiece: Jai Courtey is excellent in DANGEROUS ANIMALS (2:31). Who knew? He's a serial killer who loves sharks! Then they caught up with Darren Aronofsky's CAUGHT STEALING (7:30), which is not the movie either Megan or Dave signed up for (it's Aronofsky; they should have known), but they really enjoyed it nonetheless. They round things out with Jay Duplass's THE BALTIMORONS (29:26), which they hated until they loved. Over on Patreon, we celebrate Terence Stamp by watching LINK (1986).

Movie of the Year: 1999The Limey (feat. Adam Kempenaar from Filmspotting)Why The Limey Still Packs a PunchIn this episode of Movie of the Year, the Taste Buds turn their sights on The Limey (1999), Steven Soderbergh's sharp revenge thriller about grief, family, and memory. Mixing classic crime tropes with experimental editing, The Limey is both a gripping noir and an impressionistic meditation on loss. With Terence Stamp delivering a career-defining performance, the film remains one of Soderbergh's most daring works.1960s vs 1990s in The LimeyAt the heart of The Limey lies a conversation between two eras. Terence Stamp's Wilson—a hardened ex-con from the swinging London of the 1960s—arrives in neon-soaked Los Angeles of the 1990s to uncover the truth about his daughter's death. The Taste Buds discuss how the film contrasts the ideals, aesthetics, and morality of these decades, using Wilson's journey as both a cultural clash and a generational reckoning.Steven Soderbergh's Directing Style in The LimeyKnown for pushing boundaries, Steven Soderbergh infuses The Limey with fractured editing, nonlinear storytelling, and the haunting use of flashbacks. The Taste Buds break down how these stylistic choices elevate a standard revenge plot into a hypnotic piece of cinema. They also explore how The Limey connects to Soderbergh's other 1999 classic, Out of Sight, and how his experimental style paved the way for his 2000s successes.Family, Revenge, and The Limey's Emotional CoreWhile The Limey is structured like a thriller, its true heartbeat lies in themes of family and redemption. Wilson's grief over his daughter and his desperate search for answers give the film unexpected emotional weight. The Taste Buds explore how family drives the story forward, turning vengeance into something deeply human and heartbreaking.Guest Panelist: Adam Kempenaar from FilmspottingJoining this week's episode is Adam Kempenaar, host of the long-running podcast Filmspotting. Adam brings decades of cinephile experience and critical insight to the discussion, offering a deeper look at Soderbergh's influence and the lasting cultural relevance of The Limey. His perspective helps connect the film to both classic noir traditions and contemporary cinema.Listen to Filmspotting here!Bonus Segment: 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)The Taste Buds balance The Limey's brooding intensity with a bonus discussion of 10 Things I Hate About You, the teen comedy that reimagines Shakespeare for the 1990s. They break down the film's clever script, breakout performances from Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, and how it epitomizes the teen movie boom of the decade. Together, the two films showcase the remarkable range of 1999 cinema.FAQ About The Limey Podcast EpisodeWhat is The Limey (1999) about? The film follows Wilson (Terence Stamp), an ex-con who travels to Los Angeles to investigate his daughter's mysterious death. Why is Steven Soderbergh's style in The Limey unique?Through nonlinear editing, impressionistic flashbacks, and tonal shifts, Soderbergh transforms a revenge story into an artful meditation on grief and memory. Why is family important in the film?Wilson's pursuit of justice is rooted in his...
Send us a textIn this episode, we revisit The Hit (1984), a meditative crime film that gave Terence Stamp one of his most hauntingly restrained performances. As news of Stamp's passing at age 87 reverberates through the film world, we reflect on his legacy—from the rebellious charm of Billy Budd to the icy menace of General Zod, and the quiet dignity he brought to The Hit.We unpack the film's existential undertones, Stephen Frears' direction, and Stamp's ability to command the screen with silence and soul. It's part review, part tribute—an ode to an actor who never chased the spotlight, but always earned it.Actress Karissa Lee Staples Oh Brother Podcast: Support the Show! The late, great Terence Stamp's death at the age of 87 has left behind an incredible body of work, but what a gamble The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert was. He'd never headlined a comedy, he'd never done a musical, he wasn't keen on Australia - and yet he agreed to sign up for a low budget Australian indie that over three decades later, is still awash with stories. The second half of this episode is handed over to director Jay Roach meanwhile, who talks about his new movie, The Roses. The chat also covers bits of Recount, Meet The Parents, the big film he never made, and even a dab of The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy... Learn more about your ad choices. Take us with you for one last beach trip before summer ends here at Breakfast All Day. It's sort of an Arthouse Tuesday on a Friday with the mix of movie reviews we have for you. We begin with "Honey Don't," Ethan Coen's second solo outing without brother Joel. We both love the Coens, but we don't really agree on this. Margaret Qualley stars as a lesbian private eye investigating a suspicious car accident in Bakersfield, California. Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans and Charlie Day co-star. In theaters. Next is "Splitsville," which we both loved. It's an indie rom-com focusing on two married couples and their twisted, intertwined lives. The understated meanness is delightful, but there's a vulnerability underneath. Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin star. Covino directed from a script he and Marvin co-wrote. In theaters. Then we turn to the Devo documentary, titled appropriately, "Devo." If you love the '80s new wave band, you'll appreciate this breezy but super informative look at how they came together and created their signature look and sound. Plus the music is so great: Both of us feel lucky to have seen Devo in concert, and you should definitely check them out live if you can. Streaming on Netflix. Finally, it was a lengthy Movie News LIVE!, as we discussed the dismaying state of film journalism. Plus: sing-along "KPop Demon Hunters," Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein," and we remember the legendary Terence Stamp, who died this week at 87. Thanks for joining us. * Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
Thaddeus and Chauncey are joined by Amar Desai of "The Desai Guys" podcast to celebrate the miraculous return of Matthew Stafford and review some of the last minute trades before teams start cutting players. Then the guys ask Amar all of their burning fantasy questions both for regular leagues and dynasty. Amar dives deep into player rankings, who should and shouldn't be drafted, and which players could swing or sink fantasy teams this year. Afterwards, they lament a Dodgers loss to the Padres and how their outfield defense is becoming a bigger problem than their oft-injured pitchers. Later, Thaddeus and Chauncey review an excellent season two premiere of "Peacemaker". Chauncey and Amar share their love for "Fantastic Four: First Steps". Chauncey says good-bye to the legendary Terence Stamp. They quickly review trailers for "Good Boy" and "Ballad of a Small Player". Thaddeus and Amar breakdown all the big storylines in the WWE. Finally, they share what they watched this week including "Hunting Wives". "Twisted Metal", "WWE Raw", and more.LA PODFIDENTIAL is part of the LAFB PODCAST NETWORK.

We remember British actor Terence Stamp, who died last week at age 87. He starred in the film The Limey, as an ex-con out for revenge, and in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert as a transgender performer on the road with a lip-synch club act. Stamp got his start in the '60s, starring in the films Billy Budd, Far From the Madding Crowd and The Collector. Stamp grew up in a working class cockney neighborhood and as a teenager, when he let it be known he wanted to be an actor, his father told him, "People like us don't do things like that."
