En: Gert and Liv were two unlikely companions, who, despite their differences, had a shared passion: the Viking Gilde Festival held annually in the Sognefjord. En: Every year, Gert, a strong and proud Viking man, made the pilgrimage to the Sognefjord, while Liv, a soft-spoken and gentle woman of Scandinavian descent, chose to stay close to home. En: This year, however, proved to be different. En: Liv had recently found out about her Viking ancestry and decided to join Gert in his journey. En: The two made their way to the Sognefjord, anticipation building in their chests as they thought of the celebrations that awaited them. En: It was going to be a festival of fun, music and heritage that would be shared between the two of them. En: But as they arrived at their destination, the atmosphere was not one of joy and celebration. Nb: Det var frykt og spenning. En: It was one of fear and tension. En: The Viking Gilde Festival was being held in a time of great strife, as the powerful jarls of the area had been feuding for years and their arguments had finally reached a boiling point. En: On the first day of the festival, Gert and Liv noticed that the jarls had brought their forces and set up camp near the festival grounds. En: Gert, wanting to show his strength and courage in the face of danger, chose to ignore the jarls and enjoy the festival. Nb: Liv var derimot ikke like sikker. En: Liv, on the other hand, was not so sure. En: She was scared of the jarls and their forces, and the thought of their presence made her uneasy. En: She wanted to turn around and go home, but Gert convinced her to stay and enjoy the festivities, assuring her that everything would be alright. En: For the next few days, Gert and Liv enjoyed the sights and sounds of the festival. En: They danced, shared stories, and feasted on the delicious food and mead offered by the vendors. Nb: De to hadde sitt livs tid. En: The two of them were having the time of their lives. En: On the last day of the festival, however, there was a sudden change in the atmosphere. En: The jarls had been discussing something in secret, and now they were marching towards the festival grounds. En: Gert and Liv knew that they had to do something to protect the festivalgoers. En: Gert immediately sprang into action, using his experience as a warrior to rally the other festivalgoers and prepare them for battle. En: Meanwhile, Liv used her wit and charisma to try and negotiate with the jarls, pleading with them to end their feud peacefully. En: Surprisingly, her words had an effect on the jarls, who finally agreed to a truce and dismantled their forces. En: The festivalgoers cheered and celebrated their victory, and Gert and Liv, who had been so instrumental in the outcome, were praised and honoured by the jarls. En: As the festival ended, Gert and Liv looked forward to their next adventure. All three and their stalwart crews were involved in the operation to save bulk carrier Portland Bay after it lost power in stormy weather last month.Pacific Encounter's time in Sydney will also be of economic benefit to the city with local marine engineering and technical services coming on board and more than half a million kilograms of locally sourced produce being loaded to begin the ship's cruising program.Special thanks to Listener Garry in Sydney who sent in some incredible images of Encounter alongside in Circular Quay.Viking celebrates 25 years of award-winning explorationOn 5 Aug 23, Viking is celebrated the company's 25th anniversary.
