Naturists win: Germany bans bathing suits on FKK beaches

The city of Rostock, Germany, has just implemented a compulsory nudity rule at designated nude beaches in the seaside districts of Warnemünde and Markgrafenheide. This local ordinance mandates that visitors to these naturist-only zones, encompassing 37 beach sections along a 19 km stretch of coastline, must be entirely unclothed. Swimsuits, bikinis, and any form of clothing are prohibited in these areas. If you're caught clothed on one of these beaches, you may be asked by authorities to strip down or vacate. To be perfectly clear, this regulation applies only to Rostock's official FKK beaches and does not apply nationally. The city's beaches are now categorized into three distinct zones: naturist-only, mixed-use, and textile-only, ensuring that visitors can choose areas that align with their comfort levels. Enforcement measuresThe decision to enforce this ban arose from numerous complaints by naturists who felt uncomfortable due to the presence of clothed individuals in designated nude areas. Incidents involving clothed visitors allegedly gawking, taking photos, or otherwise disrupting the nude-friendly environment were reported. Rostock officials noted that many naturists felt their privacy was being compromised, prompting the city to adopt stricter guidelines. Rostock has a longstanding tradition of FKK culture, particularly in former East Germany, where social nudism was widely practiced. City officials believe that this rule protects the integrity of dedicated naturist spaces and ensures that naturists can feel at ease. Additionally, the increasing prevalence of smartphones has raised concerns about potential privacy violations, further justifying the need for clearer regulations. Beach wardens and local authorities will oversee compliance with the new rule. These officials have the authority to request that clothed individuals either disrobe or leave the FKK zones. If someone refuses to comply, they may be issued a Platzverweis (order to vacate the area). Notably, no fines are planned; enforcement will focus on resolving conflicts rather than imposing penalties.According to reports, wardens will patrol the nude beaches on foot or by beach buggy, but they themselves will remain clothed. The rule does not apply to passersby who are not staying on the beach—for example, someone briefly walking along the shoreline. Rostock has also designated textile-only zones to accommodate all preferences, ensuring that those who prefer to wear swimwear have separate spaces.Public reaction and controversyLocally, the rule has been welcomed by naturists and city officials, who view it as a reinforcement of proper etiquette and a deterrent against clothed onlookers. The Rostock city council broadly supported the measure, emphasizing it as a practical response to user complaints. However, international reactions have been mixed. Media coverage highlighted the unusual nature of the rule, as most laws regulate nudity by requiring clothing—this one does the opposite. Some headlines humorously framed it as a crackdown on “half-hearted naturism.” Critics argue that the rule might deter newcomers who are curious about naturism but hesitant to go fully nude. However, no major protests or legal challenges have emerged, and officials stress that common sense will guide enforcement. Germany's approach is unique. While the country has a strong FKK tradition, most of its nude beaches have historically been clothing-optional, much like those in other nudist-friendly nations. Even in places with long-established naturist cultures, mandatory nudity remains rare. France, home to its famous plages naturistes, generally allows swimwear even in designated nudist areas. Some beaches, like Port Leucate, post signs explicitly stating “le port du maillot de bain est interdit” (swimsuits forbidden), but enforcement is largely social rather than legal, relying on peer expectations rather than official action. Elsewhere, no such mandates exist, at least that I can find. Spain, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. all have well-known nude beaches, but they remain clothing-optional, without any formal requirement for nudity. Rostock's decision stands apart—by legally enforcing a nude-only policy at its designated FKK beaches, the city has taken a rare step in formalizing naturist etiquette through law rather than tradition. In doing so, it extends the principle long observed in German spas—where nudity is required for hygiene—into the open, ensuring that its historic naturist beaches remain truly clothing-free.A model for naturist beachesRostock's enforcement of a nude-only rule is a significant milestone for preserving dedicated naturist spaces. The growing issue of textile encroachment on nude beaches has been a concern for years, with many naturists feeling uncomfortable in what should be their own spaces. This rule provides a clear solution: if a beach is designated as naturist, then it should be exclusively for naturists. By eliminating ambiguity, it strengthens naturist culture and protects privacy from unwanted intrusions. The rule now also provides a precedent. Naturist groups worldwide might consider advocating for similar policies in areas where textile beachgoers disrupt naturist spaces.

Fussball-EM in Deutschland.

Toisella puolella merimaisema, toisella joko pelto tai kukkaniitty. All three and their stalwart crews were involved in the operation to save bulk carrier Portland Bay after it lost power in stormy weather last month.Pacific Encounter's time in Sydney will also be of economic benefit to the city with local marine engineering and technical services coming on board and more than half a million kilograms of locally sourced produce being loaded to begin the ship's cruising program.Special thanks to Listener Garry in Sydney who sent in some incredible images of Encounter alongside in Circular Quay.Viking celebrates 25 years of award-winning explorationOn 5 Aug 23, Viking is celebrated the company's 25th anniversary. We are talking about the AIPP program selection in 2019 and 2020 which will give you some understanding on the number of people being selected in this NOC category for the AIPP program each year.In 2019, a total of 17 jobs in NOC 3012 was processed for Canadian Permanent Residence and in 2020, a total of 29 jobs in the same NOC was processed. We have seen an appreciative reduction in intakes in 2020 from 2019 figures  because the pandemic was raging in 2020 and the vaccinating the population was important. We expect the numbers to increase in the coming years. The total number of people selected under the AiPP program in 2019 was 5380 and in the year 2020 the first year where you can see the impact of the global pandemic, the total number reduced to 3234. Setting sail from Sydney on 22 October for the 2022-23 season, the award-winning Celebrity Eclipse will be making her debut in the region with a series of curated 3-to13-night itineraries across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.NCL Celebrates full relaunch of 17 ship fleet Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), is celebrating the completion of its Great Cruise Comeback with the sailing of Norwegian Spirit, the 17th and final ship in its fleet to return to service.NCL's return to service after a 500-day pause began with Norwegian Jade's 25 July 2021 sailing from Athens (Piraeus), Greece. Since then, the Brand has systematically relaunched its ships around the world, welcoming guests and crew members aboard its award-winning vessels.Norwegian Spirit, which is sporting an extensive bow-to-stern USD$100 million revitalization, departed 7 May 2022, and will be sailing through the deep blue South Pacific, visiting eight ports in 12 days, with departures commencing from Papeete on the beautiful Island of Tahiti.Norwegian Spirit will then debut in Australian waters for the very first time on 22 December 2022 for her inaugural local sailing season, visiting ports across Australia and New Zealand, marking NCL's return Down Under after an almost three-year interval.During her renovation, Norwegian Spirit now showcases 14 brand-new venues and is now quite unlike any other ship sailing in Australian waters. She boasts a doubled-in-size Mandara Spa complete with Thermal Suite including steam room, sauna, shower experience and luxurious heated-tile loungers; a luxe Ibiza-inspired adults-only pool retreat called Spice H20 that transforms into a cocktail lounge and open-air nightclub in the evenings; and an NCL guest-favourite, Bliss Ultra Lounge, where guests can enjoy a nightcap or dance the night away.A smaller ship at 268 metres long and 10 decks tall, Norwegian Spirit offers a unique intimate onboard atmosphere yet still provides all the amenities travellers know and love from NCL. Guests will find 14 dining options to choose from, each with no set dining times, tables or dress codes; from table top entertainment at Teppanyaki and fine French fare at Le Bistro to contemporary Italian at the all-new Onda by Scarpetta.Taste Testing time' on P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific ExplorerIt is ‘taste testing time' for the crew on P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Explorer as the flagship is prepared for its return to cruising on May 31 with its four-night round trip cruise to Brisbane. And if guests are excited about the beautiful food that will be on offer, they can be assured that the crew love it too. With an array of new dishes on the menu, the restaurant teams are sampling the taste and, very importantly, the vibrant look of the culinary delights soon to be experienced on Pacific Explorer. In a busy ship's galley, instant recognition of new dishes is vital to a smooth operation and to get delicious meals to guests' tables as efficiently as possible. With the main restaurant Waterfront along with specialty restaurants such as Angelo's and Dragon Lady and The Pantry outlets serving thousands of meals each day, it is easy to imagine what a complex task it is.stralia's Pacific ExplorerViking Takes delivery of newest shipViking today announced it has taken delivery of the company's newest ocean ship, the Viking Mars. The delivery ceremony took place this morning when the ship was presented at Fincantieri's shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The Viking Mars will now make her way to Valletta, Malta, where she will be officially named on May 17, 2022—Norwegian Constitution Day—by her ceremonial godmother, Lady Fiona Carnarvon, the Countess of Carnarvon. The ship will then sail itineraries in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and Northern Europe before repositioning at the end of the year for voyages around Australia and New Zealand. For years Viking has offered a variety of ways for its guests to experience life at Highclere Castle, which is the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. Highclere Castle is known as the filming location of Downton Abbey, and Viking became a household name during its sponsorship of the celebrated series MASTERPIECE through the years Downton Abbey aired. Viking Executive Vice President Karine Hagen worked closely with the Carnarvon family to develop Privileged Access Pre/Post Extensions that feature the estate, including the highly-rated Oxford & Highclere Castle and Great Homes, Gardens & Gin extensions, both of which are available for guests on select river and ocean voyages.Lady Carnarvon has also welcomed viewers to Highclere Castle on Viking's award-winning enrichment channel, Viking.TV. In her ongoing series, At Home at Highclere, Lady Carnarvon offers virtual Privileged Access to the historic home and its grounds. In the past two years, she has led more than 20 virtual tours and offered glimpses of life at her home. Additionally, Lady Carnarvon has served as godmother to a Viking Longship, the Viking Skadi, which sails Viking's popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. The delivery of the Viking Mars comes as Viking continues to mark its 25th anniversary. In January 2022, the company launched Viking Expeditions and its first purpose-built Polar Class vessel, the Viking Octantis; in March 2022, the company named eight new European river ships during a special event in Paris. By the end of the year, Viking will have also welcomed a second identical expedition ship, another identical ocean ship, and new purpose-built vessels for the Nile, Mekong and Mississippi rivers. The Viking Mars is the newest ship in Viking's award-winning ocean fleet of identical sister ships. He always reminded us that – like the popular TV series, “cruising gives people something to dream about.”Gavin, who celebrated his 90th birthday in February, officially became Princess Cruises' global ambassador in 1986, appearing in a vast array of advertising campaigns and countless public and media appearances for the company. This multi-year concession will see the construction of an innovative terminal of 11,670 square metres that MSC Cruises will operate and manage for a 31-year period. The project is estimated to represent a EUR 33 million investment by MSC Cruises. With construction work set to start shortly, the new terminal is expected to enter service in 2024.This project will allow MSC Cruises to consolidate its presence in Barcelona, which is one of the brand's most important ports in the Western Med, and to expand its homeporting operations out of the city. This will result in added direct and indirect economic benefit for the city and region as more international guests will transit through Barcelona, likely spending additional days in the city either before or after their cruise. The new terminal, which will feature shore power facilities and be ready for LNG bunkering operations, will also allow MSC Cruises to deploy more next-generation, environmentally friendly ships in Barcelona. This includes MSC World Europa, the brand's first LNG-powered cruise ship, which is currently under construction and due to enter service in 2022.Not only is Barcelona an important port for MSC Cruises, but also for the entire MSC Group. Her first sailing as restrictions lift will see her depart Tilbury on Sunday June 27 on a six-night Scottish Highlands and Islands cruise. It will then go on to complete two, six-night itineraries from the Northern Isles to the Fjords* on July 3 and 25 respectively, and in between will take in a Great British Isles Adventure cruise from July 11 for 14 nights. When she is at full capacity, Spirit of Discovery will accommodate 999 guests across 554 cabins, although this number is being capped further for these initial cruises to observe Covid protocols. At this stage, the 540-strong crew are joining the ship over the coming days ahead. Many are returning crew members so regular guests will recognise friendly faces.Once on-board the crew will re-familiarise themselves with the ship and their roles as well as go through extensive Covid-protocol training ahead of any guests arriving on board. The ship will also undertake a number of sea trials, which enable the crew to practice and refine key elements like breakfast, lunch and dinner service, theatrical performances, the daily cleaning routine, and restocking at ports. And they'll need to be well practised, as it takes nearly five days to load the ship with all the supplies needed for her first cruise around the British Isles. During a normal port of call, restocking of the ship takes around 10 hours as food, drink and supplies are brought on board. While she was in dock over the past year, the maintenance crew also took time to invest in further improvements including the installation of handwashing stations at the entrance to all the restaurants.Princess Expands Medallion capabilities Princess is introducing a new on-demand service that allows guests to call a crew member to their exact location to make an in-person request for assistanceCrewCallTM service on demand is available on stateroom TVs as well as the MedallionClass app and leverages the innovative OceanMedallion wearable to guide a crew member to a guest's exact location to be of service to the guest. The new capability is yet another example of how Princess is leveraging MedallionClass technology to increase high-touch and personalized service versus replacing it.The corresponding CrewCall Chat feature lets guests text their specific question or request using a smart device to be answered or actioned virtually by crew.Cruise Ferry Accommodation for 1,000 Police Officers and Staff During G7 Summit in Cornwall, UKMS Silja Europa, to serve as housing for 1,000 of the estimated 6,500 police officers tasked with providing security for the high-profile leaders attending the 2021 G7 Summit scheduled for June 11-13 in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, England. This is the first in person meeting of the G7 in two years and is the largest police operation in England this year. CLIA is calling on the Australian government to finalise a phased and carefully controlled resumption of domestic cruising.Click now! TAKE ACTION https://bit.ly/3eQoXMaSea trial completed for hospital ship Global Mercy – Mercy Ships Stena RoRo is leading the project for the construction of the Global Mercy™, the world's largest civilian hospital ship. After several years of construction at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard in northern China, the final test, the official sea trial, has now been completed with good results. The shipyard will present the ship for delivery this summer and the vessel will then sail to Antwerp in Belgium on its maiden voyage, where some members of the crew will board and the medical equipment supplemented. This will be followed by a visit to Rotterdam, and after this the Global Mercy™ will be ready for its first important mission in West Africa.Stena RoRo is building the Global Mercy on behalf of the international charity organization Mercy Ships, which provides free life-changing healthcare to people in some of the world's poorest countries. The project began in 2013 and Stena RoRo is responsible for design, contracting and execution. The construction project is unique in its kind and places major and specific demands on both design and layout, dependent on the special needs that hospital operations entail. On board are operating theatres and hospital wards, and everything needed for both patients and those working on board, including schools and preschools for the children of the volunteers. Sea trialThe sea trial, which the Global Mercy has just completed, means that the ship's systems and functions – such as engine performance and fuel consumption, navigation and radio equipment, maneuverability and safety systems – are tested for several days at sea.The Global Mercy will have six operating theatres, 200 hospital beds, a laboratory, a patient clinic and an eye and dental clinic. In total, she will be able to accommodate 950 people, of which 641 are crew. This summer the Global Mercy will be delivered from the shipyard. The maiden voyage will be to Antwerp in Belgium where some members of the crew will board and the last medical equipment installed, which will take a few months. After that, there will be two weeks in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where festivities will be held in presenting the ship to sponsors, potential volunteers and other interested parties.Big difference for many peopleThe first mission will be during 2022, when the Global Mercy is expected to call at Dakar in Senegal. There will then be more than six hundred volunteers aboard from all over the world and from a variety of professional categories, who will make it all possible through their contributions of skills and time.More than 93 percent of the population in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to safe surgical care *. The already very fragile medical care systems are at risk of being further degraded by the corona pandemic, and the need for basic but vital care is greater than ever in many poor countries. The Global Mercy will make a big difference for many people in southern and western Africa.Mercy Ships: https://bit.ly/33JfiAmCarnival Cruise Line Provides Update on Possible Restart Plan from Select U.S. HomeportCarnival Cruise Line today notified its guests and travel advisor partners of cancellations for additional sailings as it works toward plans for a possible July restart in the U.S. on select ships.Carnival hopes to begin operating sailings on three ships from Florida and Texas, including Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze from Galveston, and Carnival Horizon from Miami.  Further, if Carnival can find a solution to allow cruise ships to visit Alaska, Carnival Miracle will assume some of Carnival Freedom's departures from Seattle. With an output of up to 20 megavolt amperes (MVA), two cruise ships can be supplied with electricity at the same time in Warnemünde at berths P7 and P8. In regular passenger operation AIDAsol needs up to 4.5 megawatts per hour (MWh) of electricity. The use of shore power to supply ships with energy is a decisive step for AIDA Cruises to reduce local emissions to zero during berthing over time, as a cruise ship typically stays in port around 40% of its operating time.Holland America Line's New Rotterdam Successfully Sails Through Sea Trials in ItalyIt was smooth seas and fair winds for Holland America Line's newest ship, Rotterdam, which returned in the evening of May 6 to Fincantieri's Marghera (Venice) shipyard in Italy, after successfully completing two sets of sea trials off the country's Adriatic coast.Rotterdam left Marghera April 25 and performed the preliminary sea trials over two days before going into dry dock at Fincantieri's Trieste shipyard where standard pre-delivery hull maintenance and painting were performed.
