Meanwhile, a viral TikTok video shows teenagers climbing outside balcony railings on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas. 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of Canada's Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program. Today, at a time when Canada appears to be rolling back protections and freedoms for migrant workers, this anniversary raises an urgent question: what does Canada's treatment of migrants reveal about our values, and are we truly living up to the United Nations' expectations for human rights? Gabriel Allahdua (Justice for Migrant Workers) sits down with Gabriela Calugay-Casuga to talk about the urgent need to speak up for migrant workers in Canada and globally. About our guest Gabriel Allahdua is a former migrant farm worker from St Lucia, an island in the Eastern Caribbean. He is an organizer with the collective, Justice for Migrant Workers (J4MW) for almost a decade. He is currently an outreach worker working with migrant workers across Ontario and education and mobilization officer with the Association for the Rights of Household and farm Workers (DTMF). He was the activist in residence at the University of Guelph, the first person to hold that position, which brought activists and researchers together. Start with fireworks, end with gratitude—that's the arc of a year that took us from Aulani sunsets and Alaska glaciers to hospital hallways and a comeback cruise. We pull back the curtain on twelve trips, a few legendary mishaps, and the wins that made 2025 feel both impossible and unforgettable. We revisit the Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento and the hidden gem that is Stage Nine's Disneyana trove. We talk first impressions of the Disney Treasure, why Trader Sam's remains a ritual, and how the Grand Californian turned a busy week into slow mornings. Then the plot twist: an aortic aneurysm that led to open-heart surgery, a deep-breath recovery, and a return to sea on the Disney Magic from San Juan to Galveston—with a sun-drenched stop at Lookout Cay. Add a total knee replacement to close the year and you've got a masterclass in pacing, patience, and planning.Looking ahead, we share the 2026 lineup: a concierge stay aboard the Disney Magic, Sterling's performance at Disney California Adventure during Food & Wine, and a seven-night Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Destiny that swaps routine ports for St. Martin, San Juan, and Lookout Cay. We'll catch July 4th fireworks from a Polynesian bungalow and maybe sneak in the US Open in New York, Halloween scares we missed last time, and a holidays finale split between the Big Island's volcano views and an Aulani New Year. Along the way, we dig into podcast stats—20,000 downloads, global listeners, and a surge fueled by guest stories and community energy—plus practical tips on staying smart in parks and on ships.Hit play to laugh at the mishaps, borrow our itineraries, and pick up strategies for making big trips feel doable. We explore the inconsistent history of the political slogan "America First." We are joined by environmental sociologist and Black Alliance for Peace Comrade, Kim Miller. We delve into the earliest documentation of America First including its use by the nativist "Know Nothing" party in 1855, tracing its evolution through various eras of American policy. Then we examine how the Monroe Doctrine coincides with sentiments. The discussion also covers its contemporary applications, such as in Secretary of State Marco Rubio's "Americas First Foreign Policy," particularly concerning Venezuela. By defining key concepts like nationalism, non-interventionism, and anti-imperialism, we seek to understand the various meanings—or lack thereof—that have been attached to "America First" throughout American history. Kimberly Dawn Miller is an environmental sociologist who holds a PhD in Global Studies with a concentration in Sociology from Florida International University. Her dissertation, Ecotourism Development in the Nature Isle: Navigating the Politics of Eco-Cultural Sovereignty in Dominica, examines the intersections of ecotourism, post-disaster reconstruction, Indigenous cultural revival, and sustainable land-use politics in the Eastern Caribbean. https://www.patreon.com/c/blackmyths

A late-night call, a closed clinic, and a stack of unanswered emails set the stage for one of the most determined quests for justice you'll hear this year. We walk through Kaitlin Hurley's drug-facilitated rape in Antigua, the UK police officer who tried to outrun accountability, and the father who refused to let an international border or a slow bureaucracy be the end of the story. We start with the numbers—why sexual violence remains vastly underreported and how rates in the UK and the Eastern Caribbean highlight a global crisis—then move into the granular realities of response: trauma-informed policing that helped, harmful missteps that nearly derailed the case, and the crucial role of preserved messages and medical evidence. From there, we open the black box of extradition. You'll hear how errors stalled requests, why a UK judge first denied removal over prison conditions, and how coordinated diplomacy, detailed prison audits, and a high-level sign-off finally brought the perpetrator back to face trial and a 15-year sentence.Beyond the courtroom, we tackle the cultural work that actually reduces harm. We discuss practical safety for online dating without shifting blame to survivors, and we press into prevention that starts with men—building respect, empathy, and consent as norms. Derrick Hurley shares how this case reshaped his life, from writing Antiguan Justice: A Father's Fight to delivering trauma-informed training and supporting communities with high rates of missing and murdered Indigenous women.Subscribe for more conversations that pair survivor-centered storytelling with actionable insight. The Government of Saint Lucia has reaffirmed its commitment to equitable access to quality education with the official disbursement of one hundred and twenty thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars to Seventh-day Adventist schools across the island. The funding forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen school infrastructure, improve learning environments, and ensure that students across all educational institutions, including denominational schools, are empowered to thrive under Saint Lucia's national education transformation programme
The ship greeted our guests Ryan and Tegan with a surprise: a pumpkin tree called Ginger, glowing at night with character-carved pumpkins and just enough Halloween vibe to make the decks feel new. From there, this sailing became a golden birthday story—father–daughter photos on formal night, a cake from the dining team, and a towel-cake masterpiece waiting in their stateroom. Of course they didn't abandon the classics: Tegan still chased Broadway-style shows, met characters on the fly, and Ryan found quiet moments on a midship veranda as the Eastern Caribbean drifted by.What stood out most? Choice. Younger cruisers looped trick-or-treat stations for as much candy as they could carry, while teens enjoyed a surprisingly chill Edge and Vibe thanks to school-season timing. They caught the Sanderson Sisters, then sprinted to a rare Oogie Boogie meet-and-greet where he made them dance and applauded Tegan's pirouette. Because the Treasure is new and sailing near capacity, they expected crowds—but the kid density felt lighter, which meant easier access to lounges, shows, and those spontaneous character moments in hallways and stairwells that parks can't always deliver. We get practical too. If you're planning a surprise cruise, match the reveal to your kid's style and consider weather season; two weeks out hit the sweet spot for packing, costumes, and excitement without spiraling into hurricane-tracking anxiety. Book late and be flexible on staterooms; book early if room category matters. And if you're debating a themed sailing, think of Halloween on the High Seas as a refined bonus: character costume rotations, atmospheric décor, and a tree lighting that adds texture without taking over your itinerary.Come aboard our Halloween recap for tips, stories, and the kind of Disney Cruise Line details that help you plan your own memory-rich voyage. A renewed national drive toward sustainable food production and healthier communities took centre stage as stakeholders from across Saint Lucia united to chart the next phase of the island's Food Systems Transformation Pathway. The high-level dialogue, held on October 23, 2025, at the Bay Gardens Resort, Rodney Bay, served as a powerful platform to accelerate Saint Lucia's transition toward a more resilient, inclusive, and nutrition-secure food system. Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development in collaboration with the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean the dialogue brought together key national stakeholders, farmers, fisherfolk, policymakers, youth, women's organizations, civil society, and international development partners to validate and advance Saint Lucia's National Food Systems Transformation Pathway. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) framework, which seeks to reimagine global food systems in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Since scholarship on the topic discussed is limited, a large portion of the details heard on this episode was taken from “The Making of ‘The Comrade': The Political Journey of Ralph Gonsalves" by Ralph GonsalvesToday, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is the one of the longest serving head of government in Caribbean history. As of this episode recording, he is the current prime minister of St.Vincent and the Grenadines - a post he has held since 2001. Beloved throughout the region, he has affectionately called Uncle Ralph and Comrade Ralph. But back in the 1970's, this affection was non-existent as he was persona non-grata throughout the Eastern Caribbean. For additional reading information on this episode and to view our transcript for this episode, visit our website at: https://www.tenementyaadmedia.com/Don't forget to follow us on our social mediaTwitter: https://twitter.com/tenementyaad_?lanBlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/tenementyaadmedia.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tenementyaad_/?hl=enTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tenementyaad_Join our Patreon hereWant to support The Yaad monetary?
