From primary school teacher to comedian, Jen Wakefield is funny, talented and uses some great words. “I have a love/hate relationship with the word ‘urban’”, she says as she slips easily into her comedy patter. There is a depth to Jen’s work and her humour is an excellent foil for challenging some deep seated societal stereotypes and issues. She is passionate about representation, something she mentions a lot. Her first character, 'Natasha G Stormflex’ - a grime artist on mission to bring grime to The Cheltenham Women’s Institute (can you imagine...) gained her some initial micro-celebrity. She has appeared at Edinburgh Fringe and on BBC Asian Network Showcase. Music is central to Jen’s work. Her 'WhatsApp Song’ a brilliantly hilarious 3 minute beatbox rap about a Hen Party WhatsApp Group highlights some of the home truths and behaviours that we will all recognise in others and ourselves. Initially inspired by sketch comedy and MTV, Jen describes herself as Anglo-Indian. She talks about her ‘brown side’ and her ‘white side’ and how she uses her experience of growing up with both to expose some uncomfortable truths that still permeate our society's attitude to race. She is also making a stand against what she sees as a lot of middle classness in the world of comedy. Her latest collaboration and event, Speakerbox is currently performing regularly in London. If laughter is the best medicine, then this episode opens the cabinet on comedy, music, representation, “othering”, coaching and empowerment. After it all, Jen reveals she is still a teacher at heart. As well as being really funny, Jen Wakefield also is real. I think you’ll like her! Smash The Box is a personal development business. Kora Noir hails from Miami and is a part of the reputable Speakerbox DJ Collective. We first became acquainted with Speakerbox at the Castaway party on a small island in Miami's Biscayne Bay: imagine mangrove trees, speedboats docked on the beach, banging house music, and people partying wherever they could dance. We've been following their sounds since and have been consistently impressed with the suave, sexy grooves. Kora's vinyl sets are a standout. She has played at clubs all over the United States, including Brooklyn's Output and Miami's Treehouse. She's also a member of the New York based FM Elle. It was pleasure to work with Kora, and we deeply appreciate being able to share her talent with you. Making sure the person you present matches up with the person you really are is pivotal for success. "I like to say a brand is what people say about you when you're not in the room," said Elizabeth Shea, founder of SpeakerBox Communications. "If you dont think about your own brand, or your companys brand, somebody else will do it for you."
Many are starting to take notice as Washington, DC blossoms into a region which is bolstering the work of female entrepreneurs and fostering strong networks with federal agencies in the nation's capital.

Beat Bachs is a Fayetteville-based DJ and jack of all trades. He’s been active in radio for 16 years and counting with a few different projects, namely the film industry talkshow The Drive-in Speakerbox. That show got its start as a spotlight on film scores (and still incorporates film score material between talk segments). Beat Bachs, who goes by The Boom Operator on the show, has been amassing a gigantic collection of scores over the past decade for the show. He was kind enough to pour over this entire archive and pick out the quietest, dreamiest pieces he could find for Gentle Daps XV. For more of Beat Bachs’ projects, check out Art Amiss, a local art collective of which he’s the president.

It's that time again for some funky electro house music! Before I get into that, I want to bring everyone's attention to the "Party Favorz 'T' Collection". To your left, you'll notice I opened up a store with a whole selection of t-shirts sporting the kick-ass-cool (if I do say so myself) "Party Favorz" logo. This is something I've been meaning to do for a while and have already placed my order for several T's for my partner and myself. So, if you wanna sport something really nifty all the while hip, go check it out and see what flavor you like. I have two different logos; the first is the 'deteriorated' logo currently sported on this site and the other is the original shiny 'metal' logo I used when I had the subwoofer's on the site...hmm, maybe I'll go back and incorporate that into one of the designs. Anywho, you get the silk screened logo with the "Party Favorz" motto "Use It Up, Wear It Out...Then Do It Again" emblazoned across the front on a high quality 100% cotton shirt. You also have the option of going for the 'heavy cotton' fabric or a lighter weight for those really hot days. Frankly, I don't think there's anything cooler than that. So if you wanna be the 'party favor' or just show your support, why not drop in and pick something out for yourself and your beau. Furthermore, "Party Favorz" is currently looking for a few good men. Obviously, I have my Pride Edition coming out in June and thought it might be a good idea to have you guys or anyone interested, submit your hottest pics. If you think you got what it takes to grace the cover of the Party Favorz 2008: Pride Edition, email me a HIGH-QUALITY shot for consideration. As mentioned in my 'welcome' message, house music knows no boundaries and neither does Party Favorz. After all, HOTNESS comes in all stripes. So, whether you're of Asian persuasion, a Latin lover, sexual chocolate or just plain ole vanilla send your pics to kjamproductions@gmail.com for consideration. The person selected will not only grace the cover of the 2008 Pride Edition but will get to pick out a tee from the Party Favorz Collection and have it shipped for free anywhere in the world. Submissions must be received no later than June 7, 2008. The preferred resolution is 300 dpi or higher (please no 72 dpi) and include your first name, state, and country. In other news, I've decided that there is a great deal of cross-pollination occurring between the Funky and Electro-Funk Editions. Going forward, I will consolidate the two editions. What I decided to do was to share the tunes between the Electro-Funk and the newly created House Edition. Which means, they will both have funky house tunes on them. The style of the mix will determine what edition they ultimately end up on. Regardless, you get more funk for your trunk! Now isn't that what it's all about? Finally, I plan on beginning work on the next installment of the Classix Edition, which should be a whole lot of fun! Instead of honing in on a specific year, this go around I'll be targeting a decade. More specifically, the 90's! Though the underground house scene began percolating in the mid-80's, it wasn't until the nineties that it reared it's beautiful head and crossed over into the mainstream. Remember Robin S, Crystal Waters, Lisa Stansfield & Ce Ce Peniston? Of course, you do and that's why I'm so excited about this mix. All and all, it should be a lot of fun and a great beginning to the summer. Speaking of Crystal Waters, she's clearly adapted to today's house scene and has a sizzling new tune on this edition! I can't say enough about "Dancefloor" her latest effort with Speakerbox. So get ready for some seriously electrOfying funk! I hope everyone has a great weekend...and as always, Enjoy! Due to the original structure of this post, the two separate sets have now been combined into one and remastered based on the techniques used in current podcasts. Album : Electro-Funk Edition v5 | Pt. 1 & 2
