Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more!

1961: Juri Gagarin erobert als erster Mensch das Weltall und Ray Charles veröffentlicht "Hit the Road Jack".
Andremo a ascoltare ritmi di Slow Foxtroot: The Fox Trot in The Jazz Age, Fly me to the moon, You, Hit the Road Jack, All of me, Waves, Feeling Good, For Sentimental Reason; ecco, invece, nella versione di Quickstep, ascolteremo: I don't mean a thing, Why me?, That Man, Cant touch it, Bach in Town, You can't Hurry Love, Is You is - Or is You aint, Swing Sweet Pussycat, Swing with Me. Buon ascolto da Lorella Turchetto Michieli --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radio-nostra/support

Known today mainly for his sensitive and evocative compositions like Hit the Road Jack, Please Send Me Someone to Love, and Rivers Invitation, Percy Mayfield began his career as a big band vocalist of the Bronze Baritone genre, until a serious auto accident nearly killed him, disfigured his face, and ended his career as a matinee idol/singing heartthrob. After his recovery, he continued his career as a songwriter writing hit records for others and making the occasional recording himself. Support the show (https://paypal.me/BFrank53?locale.x=en_US)

Joy Crookes was nominated for Rising star at the BRIT awards 2020. Born and raised in Elephant and Castle, London, the daughter of a Bengali mother and an Irish father, she grew up listening to an eclectic mix of genres – everything from Nick Cave, to King Tubby, Kendrick Lamar and Gregory Isaac. She came to the public's attention at the age of 15 when she uploaded a cover of "Hit the Road Jack" on YouTube, and later performed "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?", on the global music platform, COLORS. She has now released "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" as the lead single from her upcoming debut album, Skin. We look at the issue of maternal discrimination with Dr Katie Lidster a scientist who has just won £23,000 damages against her employer – a government backed body. She won the case against UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) after an 18-month battle following the arrival of her second child, Daisy, who was born in 2019 ten weeks prematurely. She was offered a role with diminished responsibilities, four days a week, and later told that her old job no longer existed. We talk to Dr Lidster and to Employment lawyer Claire Dawson who specialises in discrimination cases. The economist Emily Oster is best known here for her books that look at the evidence behind parenting myths. Much of the advice for pregnant women is contradictory and so her books looked at the data behind issues like drinking in pregnancy and risks associated with induction dates. Now she is back with a new book Family Firm which is focussed on primary school years. ‘Hot Girl Summer' is a term coined by American rapper and music sensation Megan Thee Stallion. You might have seen the phrase across social media, on Instagram captions, Tik Tok hashtags, Facebook statuses, even on clothing, as it's become part of the day-to-day vocabulary for millennial and Gen-Z women across the globe. Megan defined ‘Hot Girl Summer' as “To be you, just having fun. Turning up, driving the boat and not giving a damn about what nobody's saying.” But why, two summers later, are people still using the phrase? And what does Hot Girl Summer actually mean? Anita Rani speaks to Shei Mamona, a journalist and the Beauty and Features Assistant at Glamour and Scotty Unfamous, an erotic romance author, blogger and self-described Sexfluencer.

Música: Jerry Lee Lewis - «Hit the Road Jack»

The Genius of Soul Meets The Poet of the Blues: The musical collaborations of Ray Charles and Percy MayfieldMayfield, dubbed "The Poet of the Blues" for his seemingly never-ending stream of beautifully-woven song lyrics, laid down his first sides for Gru-V-Tone Records in 1947. He hit it big in 1950 with the now-iconic "Please Send Me Someone to Love," which has since been recorded by hundreds of artists. Percy's original version stayed on the R&B chart for 27 weeks, peaking at the #1 position. Other chart successes for Percy in the early '50s were "Lost Love," "Strange Things Happening," "What a Fool I Was" and "The Big Question." A devastating and near-deadly car accident in 1952 left Mayfield's face permanently disfigured, and the next several years would find his career in decline. Enter Ray Charles. In 1961, Ray, a longtime Mayfield admirer who had already recorded two of his songs, called on Percy's writing talents. The result: "Hit the Road Jack." Recorded by Ray and the Raelettes in the summer of 1961, it shot up the charts to the number-one spot. Charles immediately signed Mayfield to an exclusive songwriting contract, which lasted several years. In total, Ray would record 17 Mayfield compositions and, in 1962, signed Percy to his new Tangerine record label as a feature artist. In this episode, we'll hear the majority of Ray's Percy-penned tracks. We'll also hear several of Mayfield's stellar Tangerine recordings, which feature Ray as pianist and arranger.Trick Bag is presented by Osiris Media. Hosted and Produced by Neil Pellegrin. I just can't wait to get on the road again. 'On The Road' by Jack Kerouac is a classic of American literature and is frequently listed as one of the best books of the 1900's. It is a non-stop adventure that blurs the line between fiction & non-fiction. Sal Paradise (the author) provides a 1st person account as he crosses back and forth across the US with his mad friend Dean Moriarty (Neal Cassady). Kerouac became the voice of the 'Beat Generation' and the frantic energy and madness of travel is truly highlighted within.I summarised the book as follows. "It has a strong start but the longer it went, the more it dragged on. I found myself disliking the main characters and that is a death knell for me. It does do a great job of portraying the frantic energy of a bizarre time and is a snapshot of life in 1950's America. However, I felt it did do an injustice by not highlighting some of the mundane parts of travelling/partying as it really only focused upon the good times."I hope you have a fantastic day wherever you are in the world. Chapdelaine is the only person to have won both the GFA competition (as a matter of fact the very first one) and the National Fingerstyle Championship. If you happen see Chapdelaine live you'll see him switch effortlessly between the steel string and the nylon string guitars and hear a blend of his autobiographical compositions, his spot-on arrangements of Rock ‘n' Roll classics like “Come Together” and “Hit the Road Jack,” and classical pieces by composers like Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer, and Bach. On today's episode you'll Mike's take on arranging for the solo guitar, about his impactful and perspective changing run-in with Segovia, and overall I think you'll get the sense that it's never a bad idea to embrace those big life changes by taking those risky leaps into new realms, as Chapdelaine has done over and over again.
