Sugar, a common ingredient in many foods and beverages, poses negative effects when consumed in excess. Most Americans and Britons, for instance, consume on average between 60 and 77 grams of processed sugar daily, twice the recommended limit for optimal health. In fact, a large review of 73 meta-analyses found that heavy consumption of added sugar was associated with 45 negative physical outcomes, including diabetes, gout, obesity, high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, cancer, asthma, tooth decay, depression, and early death. In this episode, we'll explore what happens if you stop consuming sugar for two weeks and how it can benefit your body and mind. https://todaysfocusofattention.com/what-happens-when-you-quit-sugar-for-two-weeks-the-benefits-of-a-sugar-free-diet/ Listen to the full episode...

Today, I chat to Robby Barbaro, whom you might know from Mastering Diabetes or as the mindful diabetic. Robby has been reversing his type 1 diabetes as a fruitarian for the last 12 years. At 8:20, Robby starts to share his journey with type 1 diabetes, from his diagnosis in the year 2000. He points out the major life-changing moment when he started to notice that the more fruit and the less fat he ate, the better his insulin was working. But overcoming type 1 diabetes was not the only reason that Robby went raw vegan. After watching the movie Earthlings, Robby talks about how his eyes were opened to the harsh reality of how the food that he was eating got onto his plate. This was a game changer as well.Going back to the discussion on his diet, at 23: 17, Robby sheds some light on the importance of getting enough calories with a plant-based and fruit-based lifestyle. He mentions how each meal needs food that’s high in calorie density because if this isn’t the case, this is when you find people flaking on veganism. At 27:40, Robby addresses a common question that people have about taking up a fruit-based diet; where will my protein come from?Robby talks about the link between heart disease and diabetes at 32:47 and goes on to debunk some common myths about this link and other myths related to diabetes.“If I eat as simple as possible, then my digestion is a lot simpler, then that frees up a lot of energy for the body to do its own healing”-Robby Barbaro-Resources:https://www.masteringdiabetes.org/Movies:EarthlingsDominionSocial media:Instagram:@masteringdiabetes@mindfuldiabeticrobbyWatch the interview on the The Gary te Roller YouTube Channel: http://bit.ly/MindfulDiabetic

Let's face it. The low carb/high fat approach is still not politically correct. Eliminating added sugar is getting lots of support in the media these days from films like Fed Up, and books like Fat Chance by Dr. Robert Lustig. The truth is, I didn't just eliminate sugar in order to lose more than 65 pounds, and keep it off (with a 6 month period of re-gain which I will describe on today's show) for six years and counting. I also completely eliminated grains, I ate more fat, and most shocking of all, I occaisionally practiced intermittent fasting. I was truly afraid to tell anyone how I had lost all my weight, let alone write publicly about it. Then, I saw Dr. David Perlmutter on the Dr. Oz Show. He was talking about his book, Grain Brain. I bought the book, read it, and followed Dr. Perlmutter's dietary approach in order to get back to my happy weight. The most important conviction I gained from Grain Brain was that I never ever had to eat grains again. Finally, I had the courage to write my story, and share my own approach to sugar and grain free living. If you've decided to let grains go for good, I hope you'll listen today, and read Grain Brain, by Dr. David Perlmutter
Meet Catherine Gordon. She is an ACE Cetrified Personal Trainer, and a member of the National Weight Control Registry. In 2008 she overcame a lifetime of struggle with overweight and obesity by giving up sugar, and the foods that turn quickly to sugar in the body. Back when Catherine was in the middle of her obesity struggle, she searched high and low for stories of people who had lost fat for good, and she discovered Jimmy Moore's Livin' La Vida Low Carb Show, and Sean Croxton's Underground wellness. She found so much great inspiration and information there, that she decided to create a podcast too. Today she shares her story. http://sugarfreedom.com youtube.com/c/sugarfreedom
