[01:45] The Reason You Should Stop Taking Melatonin Every Single Night Jimmy has been working on his sleep for about ten years. If you're going to be healthy, you need to get your sleep dialed in. Health isn't just about food; it's also about sleep. When people have sleep issues, they start taking melatonin. Melatonin helps you get to sleep, and you do feel heavy with melatonin. Over time, Jimmy realized that he kept needing to have more and more melatonin. Eventually, Jimmy started to train his circadian rhythm by getting sun in his eyes. Also, ice baths before bedtime are helpful for sleep. You can get that through meditation and stress management. However, people live in a stressful state, never managing it. You can be on keto forever, but that stress will negatively affect your health if you don't have it under control. Most people don't have high cortisol. In fact, they have super low cortisol. [31:00] Start A New Tradition: Going To Sleep As A Family Do the best you can when it comes to your sleep. If you can't afford the best meat possible, just do the best you can. Grain-fed beef will be better than cereal. So, talk with the people in your family about improving your sleep. Start a tradition where you and your family all go to sleep at the same time. [34:30] Listen To Your Body Because The Oura Ring Is Just A Tool An Oura Ring is a tool for your health journey. It will not be 100% accurate. You need to take everything with a grain of salt. Don't get too upset if one night on your Oura Ring doesn't seem right. Listen to your body because you know when you slept well. [39:50] Adding Fruit and Honey To The Carnivore Diet Jimmy is disappointed in the persistence of redefining terminology. For instance, there has been a massive trend of adding fruit and honey to your carnivore diet. If fruit and honey make you feel good on the carnivore diet, then do it! However, when you call it carnivore, you are changing what the term means. Jimmy says that it's disappointing they are changing the meaning behind standard health terms. [43:55] Keto Isn't A Weight-Loss Tool; Keto Is A State of Metabolism You are doing a disservice to your clients if you're a coach, and you promote keto solely as a weight loss diet. Keto is a state of metabolism, not a diet. If you tell people to eat keto, then it doesn't make sense. You get into a state of metabolism to improve your health. Don't promote keto as a weight-loss tool. Of course, keto is a powerful tool for weight loss; however, it's a weight-loss tool for everyone. Keto puts your body in a better position to be optimally healthy. [47:00] The Mental Benefits of Keto Will Change Your Life Forever The psychological component of being in ketosis is the best part of keto. When you're not thinking about food 24/7, that's life-changing. On keto, you'll be satiated and have hunger control. When you nourish your body well, your body will reward you. Dr. Westman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University. He is Board Certified in Obesity Medicine and Internal Medicine and founded the Duke Keto Medicine Clinic with Dr. William S. Yancy Jr. in 2006 after 8 years of clinical research regarding low carbohydrate ketogenic diets. He is Past-President and Master Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association and Fellow of The Obesity Society. He is co-founder of Adapt Your Life, an education and product company based on low carbohydrate concepts.
