Hey Identifier, https://news.sky.com/story/arizona-police-officers-placed-on-leave-after-watching-man-beg-for-help-and-drown-12629166 #Seanbickings #tempepolice #drowning Three police officers in Arizona have been placed on paid leave after they refused to rescue a homeless man from drowning in a lake. Newly released bodycam footage and transcripts show Sean Bickings repeatedly shouted for help, saying "I'm going to drown", while the officers stood by and watched. The 34-year-old's drowning was described as a "tragedy" by Tempe city manager Andrew Ching and Police Chief Jeff Glover, following the release of 12 minutes of edited police body camera video showing the moments before his death in Tempe Town Lake on 28 May. The officers were responding to a reported disturbance between Mr Bickings and his partner near the Tempe Center for the Arts at 5am. They denied any argument and co-operated fully with police, according to a statement by city officials. About: Justin Olson began his music journey with the Violin at age 3 before joining the Phoenix Boys Choir at age 8 where he learned to sight read sheet music and was featured as a solo vocalist. Following his involvement with the Phoenix Boys Choir, Justin went on to play Saxophone in the Junior High School Band and began to learn the Guitar at the age of 12. During this same year, Justin acquired a 4-track tape recorder and began to record himself and write songs. Justin continued to write songs and make recordings through High school, where he joined his first band, which won the “battle of the bands,” and where he performed with the high School Choir. In College, Justin shared his songs in live performances and open mics. This was a great way to build confidence as a performer, and learn the satisfaction of sharing your creations with the world. As an artist, it is easy to become lost in your head and process, live performance is a very important tool to receive feedback and input that guides your creative output and can give you the needed confidence to share it with the world. After College, Justin began to play Performance Gigs around the state of Arizona including: Tempe Center for the Arts “ Singer Songwriters Showcase” in partnership with PBS, “Knock the Blues out of Hunger” Blues Festival, Glendale Folk Festival, Weekly “Fun Fridays” at the Tempe Center for the Arts and most recently, a live Eurorack Modular Performance at , “ Wireheads” in downtown Phoenix. In addition to various live Performances, Justin signed a Music Contract with Electric Lotus Music and Recorded his first Studio album titled, “Amber Waves.” In 2014, Justin began his journey into Synthesizers, Electronic Drums, Samplers and Drum Machines. Justin wanted to take a step out of his comfort zone and grow as an artist ; He was seeking new challenges and tools to make music. Justin explored many electronic music machines from Elektron, Korg, Moog, Dave Smith etc. In late 2014, Justin dove into Eurorack Modular synthesis. Justin was struck by the interface of blinking lights, cables and creating his own custom instrument. Eurorack synthesis is an amazing sound creation tool to learn the individual elements of a synthesizer and to become very efficient at signal flow and sound design. Since 2014, Justin has focused on creating musical projects, performances and albums on his Eurorack Modular. He has released 19 albums of music during this time-frame and has enjoyed the process of patching a song over hours to days and then performing it live and capturing the performance. Justin enjoys introducing people to Modular synthesis and being a knowledgeable resource to expose and bring students into the area of study and creation. His mission is to help guide newcomers through the vast market of gear, resource material and introducing them to basic skills that build on each other and provide a strong foundation to continue their very personal journey of building their own Modular instrument. Justin is currently a modular Synthesizer instructor at the Academy of Modern Music Production (AMMP) in Mesa, AZ. Andre Johnson is a TYA actor who believes that we stop putting clear messages in our stories as we get older because we assume we've already learned everything. Unfortunately, he is wrong and I am right. Andre joined me at Cartel Coffee in Tempe to discuss the practicality of college in the arts, the frustrations of having to constantly represent a minority group, and why we should all be more like Terry Crews. “Music does everything for my life. It feeds me, it heals me, it gives me the opportunity to connect with people. It's a language.” Walt Richardson is an Arizona music legend and a man full of life lessons and poetic words. He was inducted into Arizona's Music Hall of Fame at the Tempe Center for the Arts. What he calls one of the great joys of his life. Climbing to the top of the music industry isn't easy, but Richardson has managed to do this with grace and a positive spirit. He likens his quest for a peaceful life to music. “When a note doesn't fit, I call it a bad vibration.” It is good advice for all of us to limit the “bad vibrations” in our lives. The other thing Walt Richardson limits is being competitive with others. Rather, he looks at himself as competition. Constantly challenging himself to evolve. The next song being better than the last song and the next show being better than the last show. One of eight children, Richardson's father was a Tuskegee Airman who left a legacy of rising to the occasion no matter what the obstacle. When we asked for his thoughts about the Black Lives Matter movement, Richardson told us he has an “interesting take on the planet as a whole.” He believes as long as we are “putting labels on ourselves” we are always going to have some sort of issues. “I know there are some hateful things and damaging things going on out there.” He goes on to say, “we can't solve this problem with one person. It's all of us.” The Sr. Richardson used to say, “when you are in a tough situation, don't split, don't quit, just sit.” Walt Richardson's parents brought him up to be ambitious, soulful, and always follow his dreams. “There's a lot of people walking this planet with a story in their head,” Richardson says. His story was all about music and his family encouraged him to write the story the way he wanted. Beth Sistrunk began her artistic endeavors as a child in rural Ohio. Quoted from her website, she shared that for her, beauty is the essential driving force of her work: "I'm always chasing beauty in my work. For me a painting should be beautiful. It should captivate the viewer, if only for a few seconds. And for those few seconds let them forget themselves, their worries, their troubles and transport them to a place of beauty and peace." Beth is a master oil painter residing in Naples, Florida and she had excelled in prestigious art awards and contributions such as the Art Renewal Center's 2012/2013, The National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society for "Recipe for a Beautiful Day," and a Creative Achievement Award for "Essence of the Sea" at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Her artwork portrays unbelievable detail, depth, and obvious passion through creating. Beth is blowing minds with her talents. Here are the highlights of my funky conversation with Beth: 04:51 Starting out with crayons during her childhood to playing trumpet and piano during her adolescent years, Beth talks about how she cannot live without creativity and art. 06:15 Leaving her goal of being a veterinarian or a marine biologist, she shares how she got started and pursued arts despite the scary transition. 09:18 How she overcame her struggles and the push backs through hard work and with the help of her better half. 16:03 Her great goal of having a permanent piece in a museum and what she is currently doing to be able to get to this point including finding a great teacher and mentor. 19:19 The fundamentals that she worked on to hone her skills and the habits she developed to keep her long term goal. 21:25 A step-by-step process on how she goes about creating her art and insights on where and from who her techniques are derived from. 27:33 The substance behind her art, the emotional impact of her narratives and the hidden secrets that adds interests to her paintings. 32:46 Hiring teach sooner, exposing her younger self to the arts and some of the things she may do differently in from her past.
