A new speed test now suggests that there may be more truth to those complaints than Microsoft would like to admit.YouTuber TrigrZolt ran several tests pitting six generations of Windows - from XP to Windows 11 - against one another to see which one can complete a range of tasks the fastest. Surprisingly, Windows 11 came dead last in most of the tests, including boot speed, battery life, app opening speed, and video editing.Windows 11 also came in last place in terms of memory use, taking up much more RAM than older versions of the OS, even without any apps running on the laptop. The additional memory usage can mostly be attributed to the large suite of background services and telemetry that power users have complained about for years. It's turned out to be exactly the privacy-invading, freedom-crushing, technically unworkable disaster that everyone with half a brain predicted it would be.Let's start with the most obvious sign that this law is working exactly as poorly as critics warned: VPN usage in the UK has absolutely exploded. Proton VPN reported an 1,800% spike in UK sign-ups. Five of the top ten free apps on Apple's App Store in the UK are VPNs. As said, overall demand plus scalper inflation led to low availability of the components. And now it seems that one aspect of the conversion that is making things worse is the use of DirectStorage, with the system sucking up all-important GPU resources. Spider-Man 2 was ported by Nixxes Software, which has a pretty stellar track record for converting Sony's best-sellers. Well, up until now, that is. "Dr Disrespect was previously suspended from the YouTube Partner Program for violations of our Creator Responsibility policies," a YouTube spokesperson said. "Creators who are suspended from this program can reapply for access, and after careful review of the channel's recent activity, we've reinstated it.
