This week, Jameson minimizes the genius that is Jim Henson as he reduces the muppets to “grown men fisting stuff animals” as our favorite Gen Experts watch the 1982 film, The Dark Crystal, and the rebooted 2019 Netflix series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Heather admits she likes fantasy as a genre while Jameson would rather have ACL surgery again before rewatching this movie. Kermit and Big Bird get high with today’s letter, joint (tinyurl.com/yfhw6uef) and Jameson does explore some fun facts about Jim Henson (tinyurl.com/xgkhdsjf).

The Dark Crystal. Jim Henson had made a name for himself with The Muppets but he wanted more and in 1982 the world was introduced to a new film, staring only puppets, that felt more like the dark Grimms' Fairy Tales than the lighthearted work he'd become known for. In this episode of The 602 Club hosts Matthew Rushing and Christy Morris are joined by Nic Anastassiou to talk about The Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. In 1982 Jim Henson and Frank Oz introduced us to a whole new fantasy world that pushed the boundaries of puppeteering on the big screen and ever since that time, there have been rumors of continuing the story which Netflix would finally make reality with a prequel series in 2019. In this episode of The 602 Club hosts Matthew Rushing and Christy Morris are joined by Nic Anastassiou to talk about The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Lee is joined by Ronnie Le Drew, the puppeteer and one of the voices of Zippy, from the iconic British children's TV show, Rainbow and best selling author, Duncan Barrett to discuss their new book, Zippy and Me. Over the course of almost half a century, puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew has worked with the greats - from David Bowie in Labyrinth to Michael Caine in A Muppet Christmas Carol. But the role that defined his career was Rainbow's Zippy, who he operated for more than twenty years. Zippy and Me is the first time a Rainbow insider has told the true story of what went on under the counter and inside the suits: the petty squabbles between performers, wrangling with TV executives, and scandals such as the 'love triangle' between musicians Rod, Jane and Freddy. Not to mention the now infamous X-rated episode shot for an ITV Christmas party, which subsequently found its way to the Sun. Interweaved with the dirt on what really went on behind the scenes is the story of Rainbow's heyday in the 1970s and 80s, when its stars found themselves catapulted into an exciting showbiz world - scooping a BAFTA award and even performing for the queen - and the story of a young lad from a south London council estate who defied his parents' protests to became one of the most respected puppeteers of all time. You can find the book on Amazon.co.uk and Unbound.

FANS: We caught up with puppeteer Steve Whitmire, who worked on virtually every major Henson production from 1978-2016 and succeeded the late Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog beginning in 1990. We talked Kermit, the original The Dark Crystal, and the upcoming Netflix prequel series. Also at OCon, we briefly chatted about the convention circuit with Gigi Edgley (Farscape). FILMS: The CF3 gang is wowed by the artistry on display in The Dark Crystal (1982) and break down why the film might not have done as well at the box office as it could have. And because we're not stupid, we obtain a score from Steve Whitmire and promptly offer it up to the Cultfilmometer. You'll want to hear what Steve rates the film itself vs. how he rates the film on the amount of physical pain it caused him! FINDS: We make corrections, talk about Marvel things that are already outdated (thanks to that stupid SDCC last weekend), Jetsons on Blu, and Sean William Scott anchors a horror film.

Mark, Rick and Brian have the long-awaited "reviewsit" of The NeverEnding Story, while dancing on the thin line of potentially ruining your childhood. Mark discovers he has 'false memories' of the first time he had seen the film, Brian touches upon some of the German special features found with the Apple TV version and the lads all become re-traumatized by the disturbing horse swamp scene. Rick also equates the film to the "Grease Coma" theory he is apparently an expert on, the fellas over analyze the busty sphinx statues and they debate the epic question of what exactly Bastian yells out at the end of the movie. Just like the Rock Biter, Teeny Weeny and Nighthob, follow these podcast messengers (you figure out which one is which) as they guide you via racing snail through the lands of Fantasia!

It's all about filters this week: whether it be the mist of nostalgia, the blood-rush of tribalism, or the constantly shifting sands of cultural propriety, it cannot be denied that perception colors reality, and reality gets pretty weird as a result. Are the men of The Spoon able to pierce this veil and see things as they truly are? Maybe not, but it's fun listening to them try. Plus, Rob can finally talk about his new voiceover gig, and 1982 was a pretty damn good year for movies. Music by Trip Shakespeare,The Rainmakers, and Skooshny.
