Eric Blehm is an award-winning author known for his New York Times bestsellers Fearless and The Only Thing Worth Dying For. In the early 1990s, he served as editor-in-chief of TransWorld SNOWboarding magazine and, by 1999, had transitioned to freelance writing. Blehm gained significant insight into the world of special operations shortly after the September 11 attacks when he found himself embedded with Green Berets. This immersion ultimately led to his acclaimed book The Only Thing Worth Dying For. His subsequent book, Fearless, chronicles the remarkable journey of Adam Brown, a Navy SEAL whose unrelenting spirit allowed him to triumph over severe injuries. Blehm's latest work, The Darkest White, marks a return to his snowboarding roots. The book narrates the life of Craig Kelly, often hailed as snowboarding's first superstar, and explores how his legacy continues to inspire professional snowboarding, a discipline that he was instrumental in creating. In this one, Cody talks to videographer Gary Milton. He describes himself as a snowboarder, through and through — one who, every year, has a best day ever. A day spent with old friends and new friends and riding powder. It's reminiscent of his upbringing in Palmer, Alaska, where he and his buddies would explore the surrounding woods and mountains. They'd snowboard 16 mile and, for their age and their ability, it was filled with huge and intimidating jumps that had names like “The Beast,” and “Endless.” One was a big boulder and the other was basically a 20-ft step-down jump. The walls in his bedroom became proof of his love for snowboarding. It was plastered with posters and covers ripped from snowboard magazines. Years later, when he started filming for the TransWorld SNOWboarding video, he walked into their office in California and saw so many of the same photos he had on his walls as a kid. It was a surreal moment that felt like he had somehow manifested a childhood dream. For 10 years, Gary helped film snowboard videos for Think Thank, TransWorld SNOWboarding and Videograss. It was all-consuming. Every year there'd be six months of filming — with chances to go home for maybe four days a month, if he was lucky. Then there'd be one or two months dedicated to editing. And then it was premier season. It was exhausting and rewarding, but he ultimately got burned out and moved on to film a hunting show called Team Elk for five years. He eventually decided to get into therapy because he didn't like where his personal life was heading. There was just too much drinking and bad decision-making going on. He wanted to understand and overcome his childhood trauma and end those patterns of abuse. To re-establish himself as reliable, thoughtful and caring. Someone his wife and daughter could rely on at any time of the day. And that's exactly what he did.

Full episodes info and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com I’ve got my old friend Annie Fast on the show! I go back a long way with Annie. We’re both snowboarding industry lifers, who met almost twenty years ago. Because we had so much in common, being snowboarding and writing geeks, we got on straight away and become good friends. And we stayed in touch, occasionally working together and always encouraging each other. Which is why it was such a proud moment when Annie landed the plum writing job in the industry to become the first female editor of Transworld Snowboarding. She stewarded the title through what I think we’d all agree was the last golden age of Transworld - and I’m not just saying that because she started to commission me to write features and columns for Transworld. In this conversation, recorded in Portland in November 2019, we got together to look back at Annie’s glorious, glass-ceiling smashing career. We cover the way she broke into the industry, how she created her own voice and how she was at the forefront of the change between analogue and digital media. We also discussed the challenges that come with trying to balance motherhood with her career in such a male-dominated and patriarchal industry - an issue that is woefully undiscussed. It was a total pleasure seeing Annie again - hope you enjoy our conversation. Thanks to Matt Ward for the theme tune, and to my editor Fina Charleson.

Full episode info and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com I go way, way back with legendary snowboard photographer and Transworld lifer Nick Hamilton. We first met in the mid-90s, and subsequently spent a glorious 6 year period putting together Whitelines magazine as part of a team that included friends and colleagues such as Ed Leigh, Chris Moran and Tudor ‘Chod’ Thomas. Nick was always destined for greater things, and it was no surprise when in 2001 he was headhunted by Transworld Snowboarding, subsequently moving to Cali to work first as Photo Editor and then as Content Director. His old friends, myself among them, watched on proudly as his career flourished, overseeing Transworld’s expansion into the digital realm, stewarding the most famous title in snowboarding to ever greater heights and becoming one of the most well connected and respected people in the industry. As a photographer, Nick is rightly legendary. And the story of how he carved out one of the most enviable and influential careers in the industry is equally enthralling. There’s also nobody better to pass comment on the state of modern action sports media. In this conversation, recorded at Nick’s Cardiff home in April 2019, we delve into the entire story. It’s an epic that takes in Nick’s own extraordinary tale, but also traces the evolution and changing of the media landscape, an ongoing upheaval Nick has witnessed first hand. We also dig deep into the recent developments that have seen Transworld shuttered permanently in the wake of a much-publicised takeover by American Media and which has seen Nick finally end his association with the title after almost two decades. In making this show, I’ve been lucky enough to interview some of the biggest names on the planet. But there’s something special about grabbing a couple of beers and sitting down with one of my oldest friends to reminisce about old times and their own extraordinary career. Hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks as usual to Matt Ward for the theme tune, and to my new editor Fina Charleson.
Bell first broke on to the snowboard scene in 2005 while filming with Finga on Da Trigga Productions. Stevie went on to the Forum team. In 2009, Bell landed the cover of Transworld Snowboarding's Photo Annual, an accomplishment not to be taken lightly. Known as "The Kid," Bell has a fun and loose style of riding that would put most people to shame. With his outgoing and energetic personality, moving past the sport of snowboarding, Stevie has what it takes to usher his career to the next level.
Full episode info and Show Notes: www.wearelookingsideways.com If you were to sit down to try and devise a way of creating the perfect snowboarder, you’d do worse than use Stale’s Sandbech’s upbringing as a template. Take one stoked kid living near an easily accessible local hill. Mix with three equally hyped friends who live and breath snowboarding. Add one older brother photographer who shoots with the best of the world, offering easy access to an incredible array of role models. Marinate in the world’s most influential snowboarding culture, one that has always valued individual style and heritage. The result? One of the world’s great snowboarding stylists, who is today of the most popular riders on the planet. I remember when Transworld Snowboarding asked me to write Stale’s first check out back in around 2011. Here was a 14 year-old kid who could ride it all and appeared to arrive on the scene perfectly formed. Plus, he seemed to already have an enviably stable head on this shoulders. Since then, Stale’s has evolved into one of the defining riders of the last decade, as comfortable on the Olympic podium as he is lapping the park in Laax with his RK1 mates, Which is exactly where I bumped into him, back in April 2018, arranging to meet him that evening and sit down to go over his life and career. As you’ll discover, Stale cuts the same impressive figure off the hill as he does on it, and it was a real pleasure to sit down and catch up on the ins and outs of his snowboarding life. Big thanks for coming on the show.
So, the international premiere for Snowboardpodden is here! ...and what a premiere it is! In this special episode me, my wife Sanny and Eddie sit down at Eddies house in LA with a couple of beers and talk about trips, life in general, the reality of what happens when the career ends, the way back into the snowboarding scene, Eddies own show on TransWorld Snowboarding, the inspiring story of a kid who just had his mind set on the goal from day one, and much, much more. We had a really good time hanging out at Eddies, and I hope you enjoy the episode as much as we did recording it!

Grilc just got back from Chile and talks about the terrain, culture, and unique aspects of riding in the Southern Hemisphere. He also answers viewers questions about different places he’s ridden like, South Africa, Eastern Europe and Dubai. “Snowboarding is so sick, no matter how good [the riding is] people are still stoked on it,” said Grilc about his travels for snowboarding.
Jussi Oksanen cruised into the TransWorld SNOWboarding headquarters in Carlsbad, California and sat down for a Facebook Live chat with Eddie Wall in this week’s edition of Eddie’s Wall. The duo covered a myriad of topics about Jussi’s snowboard career, including filming highlights, snowboard graphics, traveling, and of course, all things Mizu.
The TransWorld SNOWboarding crew took the show on the road this week for episode six of Eddie’s Wall. On our way to Mt. Hood for the Drink Water Rat Race, we decided to stop in and visit one of the original members of the Forum 8 and creator of the award winning Heart Coffee Roasters in Portland, OR, Wille Yli-Luoma. Coming up in a much different time in snowboarding’s history, Wille seems to have seen and done it all. Wille sat down with Eddie to recount some crazy travel stories, his career decision to leave Forum for K2, his transition from snowboarding into coffee roasting, and much more. If you were a fan of snowboarding during the 90s, then you are already familiar with Jeff Curtes' work. During that time he dominated the pages of Transworld Snowboarding and signed with Burton Snowboards as the principle photographer. He would go on to produce some of the most iconic images of Burton's elite team of riders for the next 20 years. He was there to watch as the small sport of snowboarding became an industry and children like Shaun White grew up to be dominate athletes and business men. Through it all, Curtes was a steady presence of consistent work with an easy going attitude based around the fact that he was just trying to have fun as well. On this episode of the podcast we sit down and talk about growing up in a small town outside of Milwaukee and, together with his younger brother Joe, falling in love with snowboarding at an early age. When his brother began to start winning all the competitions, and the sport began to take notice, Jeff decided to focus on documenting the world of snowboarders he was surrounded by. Before long he was being published, and the rest is history. After many years of being totally immersed in the world of snowboarding, Jeff has moved on with other commercial and adventure lifestyle work, and is looking at what the next phase of his career might hold. He currently shares space on RXR's very impressive roster of photographers, filmmakers, and athletes. It's a great conversation about doing what you love and having fun while you do it. To Learn More About Jeff Curtes Visit: http://jeffcurtes.com About Visual Revolutionary http://www.visualrevolutionary.com Because we are interested in people's story, and not what type of gear they use, we introduce a new much needed podcast in the world of photography and filmmaking. Closing out Season 1 we bring you an interview with Damian Sanders. Damian rode for Avalanche Snowboards, a company his brother Chris owned. From the first Avalanche board ever made to the Damian Dagger, Chris and Damian made it up as they went, a lot like we are doing with this podcast. Damian's go big or go bigger attitude eventually blew out his knee, several times. But not before he put down some of the biggest jumps and cliffs of the era. Damian was voted Transworld Snowboarding readers poll's Most Extreme Rider. This was back when I read Transworld cover to cover every issue.
