* Skicrosser Alex Fiva trainiert in St. Moritz.

Do you sometimes feel down and wish you could boost your mood? You're not alone. Many people are looking for ways to feel better, mentally and physically. That's where "hope molecules" come in. While it's not a term scientists use, it helps us discuss some special brain chemicals. These chemicals, like endorphins and dopamine, have a big say in how you feel each day. What if you could understand these brain chemicals better? What if you knew how to get more of these feel-good molecules naturally? Scientists have been looking into these questions for years.Kringelbach, M. L., & Berridge, K. C. (2017). Pleasure, happiness, and the brain. Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Emotion, 4, 329-344.,Rothman, R. B., Baumann, M. H., Dersch, C. M., Romero, D. V., Rice, K. C., Carroll, F. I., & Partilla, J. S. (2019). How stimulants affect the brain. Synapse, 39(1), 32-41. In this article, we'll talk about these special chemicals one by one. We'll discuss what Hope Molecules do, why you might not have enough of them, and how you can get more through what you eat, exercise, and supplement your diet. We'll also cover lifestyle factors that influence them the most. All of this is based on real science to help you take steps to feel better. What are "Hope Molecules"? The term "hope molecules" is a memorable way to discuss a group of critical neurotransmitters in our brain. Based on how they work, you'll find that the term "Hope Molecule" is an appropriate term to describe them. These are the biochemical messengers that significantly influence our emotions and overall well-being. When you're feeling good, chances are your levels of these particular molecules are balanced. On the flip side, imbalances can lead to feelings of stress, unhappiness, or even physical discomfort. The key players in this biochemical dance are: Endorphins: Often referred to as natural painkillers, endorphins elevate your mood and can even produce a sense of euphoria. Dopamine: This neurotransmitter acts like a reward system for your brain, providing feelings of pleasure and satisfaction. Oxytocin: Commonly known as the "love hormone," oxytocin strengthens social bonds and enhances feelings of trust and empathy. Serotonin: This molecule contributes to your sense of happiness and well-being, and it also plays a role in regulating your sleep and appetite. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF): This unique molecule supports the health of your brain cells and improves cognitive functions like learning and memory. In the following sections, we'll delve into each of these neurotransmitters in detail. We'll explore their roles, why you might be lacking in them, and how to naturally boost their levels through lifestyle choices like diet and exercise. And rest assured, every point is supported by credible scientific research to guide you in making informed decisions.Gold, P. E. (2015). The role of acetylcholine in learning and memory. Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, 104, 3-10.,Southwick, S. M., Bonanno, G. A., Masten, A. S., Panter-Brick, C., & Yehuda, R. (2018). What is resilience? European Journal of Psychotraumatology, 5(1), 25338. Endorphins: The Uplifting Hope Molecule Endorphins are the first of the Hope Molecules we'll look at. They are primarily produced in the pituitary gland and released into the bloodstream during moments of stress and pain. They act on the opiate receptors in your brain, much like morphine or other prescription painkillers, but without the addictive qualities.Akil, H., Watson, S. J., Young, E., Lewis, M. E., Khachaturian, H., & Walker, J. M. (1984). Endogenous opioids: biology and function. Annual Review of Neuroscience, 7(1), 223-255. Their primary role is to inhibit the transmission of pain signals and promote a sense of euphoria. Causes of Endorphin Deficiency Chronic Stress: When stress becomes a long-term companion, your body prioritizes releasing stress hormones like cortisol over mood...

--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/audiostretto/message
Dale Masten loved Christ at an early age, and loves Him still at 60. In between years included times of doubt, questioning, skepticism, and looking for anywhere but up for life's answers. Yet, God kept calling him back and Dale listened. "I derailed but I kept coming back. I couldn't live without God." He also couldn't live very well without a new kidney which he received earlier this year after a 10-year-wait. He got the call from USC Medical Center on a Sunday afternoon. "We have a kidney. If you want it, you need to be here between 4 and 6 hours." Dale and his wife of 35 years, Jill, got into the car without packing and within 5 hours he was on the table, wondering at all that was about to happen. Dale knows that there is no meaning without God, faith grows in adversity and community, and that meaningful relationships begin with openness, love and vulnerability. He loves people. Reminded me of Jesus. You will be challenged and encouraged today with Dale's story. Some gems from today's podcast: God honors the process and builds character through suffering. We need to be intentional with our gratitude or it quickly subsides into taking things for granted. I celebrate that God made me someone who is voraciously interested in people. Vulnerability is the gateway to intimacy. I had a new kidney but I still had my same old character flaws.
Remember when you were younger and you saved up your money to buy that one album that you couldn't wait to have in your hands and call your own? This week, we reminisce and jam with first-time guest Dale Masten as we review the self-titled debut album by Boston. This episode features the little ditty, "Don't Be A Dick."
The program welcomes local community activist and leader, Ellen Harris-Harvey, to discuss her involvement within the Masten district in which she resides. As a heavily involved member of her neighborhood block and as head of her own outreach ministry, Ellen is aware of the needs and initiatives that are important to the area.

Dr. Ann Masten is a professor at the University of Minnesota who has been studying resilience in children and families facing adversity for more than 40 years. In this interview, Dr. Masten shares the factors that contribute to positive development of children, how the pandemic put children at risk during the lockdown and in the months since, and what children who live through stressful circumstances can gain by enduring those hardships. Dr. Masten addresses the downside of “helicopter” or “snowplow” parents who are overly protective and remove obstacles in the way of their children. She also discusses how bullying, social media use, and climate change are challenging young people in ways that previous generations never experienced. Dr. Ann Masten is a Regents Professor, Irving B. Harris Professor of Child Development and Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the Institute of Child Development in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. She studies competence, risk, and resilience in development, with a focus on the processes leading to positive adaptation and outcomes in children and families whose lives are threatened by adversity. The goal of her work is to inform science, practice, and policy seeking to understand and promote human adaptation and resilience. She is the author or co-author of many articles on the subjects of childhood resilience, development, and motivation. She is also the author of the 2014 book “Ordinary Magic: Resilience in Development.”
Michigan State University Interim President Teresa K. Woodruff elaborates on topics she covers in her March 2023 Spartan Community Letter, which you can read by clicking on the communications tab at president.msu.edu. Academics, athletics, and the arts are all important parts of the university experience. This month they brought Spartans together to cheer, to celebrate excellence, and to heal. Congratulations are in order for John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor Felicia Wu, appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development for a term running through 2026. “She is one of those that we're cheering this month. Professor Wu really is so humble but is really helping all of us to support Michigan's agricultural mission and bringing what we do at MSU to the community in important ways.”You had a fun opportunity to honor the dedicated professionalism of our educators leading our classrooms like Professor Susan Masten of the College of Engineering, who's the recipient of this year's President's Distinguished Teaching Award. You surprised her with the award.“I did, and her class. We got to kind of burst in. The class was as surprised as was she. But she not only got the 2023 President's Teaching Award this month, she also received the 2023 MSU Community Engagement Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2023 College of Engineering Sustained Excellence in Diversity Award. She's a powerhouse. Professors like Dr. Masten are really those who are elevating our academics every single day.”Our Mr. MSU Tom Izzo set another record this year being the first person to take his team to 25 straight Big Dances. “He's been amazing for us and has lifted all of us up, not just for 25 years, but most particularly in the last six or seven weeks where he's really been the heartbeat for a lot of us and said the right things at the right time. It was really thrilling to watch him help our student athletes and navigate them towards this NCAA Tournament, which was really thrilling right down to the last overtime period buzzer. It was really exciting.”Sadly, though, Suzy Merchant had to call it a career due to some health issues. “Tom and I were at every women's basketball game starting from when I first arrived and right up to her last game. We recognize her legacy. I'm sure it was a difficult decision to retire after 16 seasons, but I just really celebrate her and the way she also guided our student athletes. I really wish her all the best as she continues in her profession and career.”Another MSU squad continues an illustrious record of national tournament competition this month. They're on their way to the National Debate Tournament in Virginia. Spartan debaters have qualified for the tournament for 27 consecutive years, and they've won it three times. “That's the resonance. If we talk about academic excellence and athletics, 27 consecutive years for our debate team is really a national record and a cherished one here at MSU and beyond. I really look forward to seeing what happens when our debate team goes down to Chantilly, Virginia, beginning this Friday for this next run that they have in the national tournament.”We continue to address campus safety in the wake of the violence our campus community experienced on February 13th. What would you like to update us on today on our collective healing?“One of the things that's so important, Russ, is that arts can really help us reclaim ourselves and our campus. So together with that action, I really encourage everyone to join together in community. One of the things that I've had a chance to go through is the new installation at the International Center. There's a series of folded paper butterflies that bring the kind of message we need. It elevates and sores and helps us to be inspired by each other. From that to our Wharton Center to the Broad Art Museum and the MSU Museum, our collection in arts really help bring us together as a community. They knit us together, and they elevate us and help us to lift up our eyes a little bit further.”Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Jabbar Bennett and his team recently released the 2022-23 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion report. What are some of the highlights from the report you'd like to share today?“We have the University Strategic Plan, the DEI Plan, and the RVSM Plan. To me, that interoperability between those three plans is what sets MSU apart. With this annual report, what we all learned is there were 270 action plans that the community brought forward that they really saw this university needing in order to achieve our welcoming and safe campus ethos. About half of those action items have been accomplished and/or are in progress, and that's really exciting. That shows that over time we continue to work towards what everyone believes is the positive impact. That's on recruitment and on retention at the student and faculty, and employee levels. I just urge everybody to click on that report, and I think you'll be as inspired as I was.”Spartans helped us further support the success of our students in March through their generosity on Give Green Day. That's our annual fundraising event supporting students. Our new Spartan Strong Fund was well-supported by the Spartan community too. “I'm so thrilled for the ways in which our community supports our students. Our regional clubs raised $120,000 for scholarships, which is really remarkable. Then our MSU faculty, staff, and retirees contributed more than $157,000 to various funds. That is up about seven and a half percent year over year, and that just shows the generosity and the value that all of us place on MSU. The Spartan Strong Fund, which is to enable the restoration of healing for our students who are most affected, that total is about $900,000 at this point. I think that just really demonstrates, again, the generosity of the entire Spartan community as they wrap their arms around all of us as we continue to heal.“We're all cheering excellence. We're cheering success for our student athletes. We're cheering success for our debaters. We're cheering on everyone as they continue to reclaim our campus. My hope is that as we continue this long walk together, we know that we're a community and we can support each other in each of the ways we talked about today, Russ.”Find and follow President Woodruff on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Nebraska high jumpers Jenna Rogers and Riley Masten qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Saturday.
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/audiostretto/message
