Today's Lake and Shed framed conversation is about J. K. Rowling's first “original screenplay,” Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nick does his signature deep dive into the history of the Fantastic Beasts film franchise's origins in Warner Brothers' determination to keep the Wizarding World profit-pillar in their portfolio alive after the last Harry Potter adaptation — and Rowling's equal determination that they not use their copyright privilege to muck up her legacy with an Indiana Jones meets Crocodile Dundee knock-off. John takes the Shed pole in the conversation and shares his months long pursuit of the shooting text screenplay, the actual last screenplay over which Rowling had control. He lays out the (1) twelve scenes that were cut from that shooting script by Steven Kloves, David Heyman, and David Yates as they “fit the woman to the dress” of Hollywood blockbuster formula, and (2) how it made a mess of the movie's chiastic integrity. Hat tip to Kelly Loomis!New to the Lake and Shed Kanreki Birthday series? Here's what we're doing:On 31 July 2025, Joanne Murray, aka J. K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith, will be celebrating her 60th birthday. This celebration is considered a ‘second birth' in Japan or Kanreki because it is the completion of the oriental astrological cycle. To mark JKR's Kanreki, Dr John Granger and Nick Jeffery, both Nipponophiles, are reading through Rowling's twenty-one published works and reviewing them in light of the author's writing process, her ‘Lake and Shed' metaphor. The ‘Lake' is the biographical source of her inspiration; the ‘Shed' is the alocal place of her intentional artistry, in which garage she transforms the biographical stuff provided by her subconscious mind into the archetypal stories that have made her the most important author of her age. You can hear Nick and John discuss this process and their birthday project at the first entry in this series of posts: Happy Birthday, JKR! A Lake and Shed Celebration of her Life and Work.Tomorrow? It's back to a book we know was written by Joanne Murray, aka Robert Galbraith, Lethal White, the fourth Cormoran Strike novel. Nick promises to lay out the tensions between classes and castes in this book and how the story told reflects those tensions in Rowling's own life. John is set to discuss how Ibsen's Rosmersholm, the source of this book's epigraphs, is also a story template for this turning point of the first seven books. Stay tuned! How does God bring blessing through brokenness? This powerful Easter sermon from Mosaic Church explores how the divine process of breaking before blessing is a recurring theme in Scripture and our spiritual journeys. Using the metaphor of agricultural ground, we uncover what it means to allow God to till the hardened areas of our hearts—leading to restoration, renewal, and spiritual fruit. Key themes in this message: • The spiritual process of breaking before blessing • God as the Master Gardener from Genesis to Jesus • The gospel story beginning and ending in a garden • Jesus' death and resurrection as an act of heart restoration • What it means to be broken ground people • Maintaining praise through suffering • A call to spiritual growth through divine disruption Whether you're new to faith or a lifelong believer, this message will challenge and encourage you to surrender the hardened soil of your life to God's cultivating hands. ➡️ Listen now and experience resurrection power that produces lasting fruit.
Why Passion Week Matters goes beyond tradition—this sacred period in Christian history reveals the depth of Jesus's final days in Jerusalem and culminates in His powerful resurrection. In this video, we break down the deep prophetic meaning behind this sacred week and explore how spiritual preparation and self-examination can transform your walk with God. What you'll learn: • The origin and meaning of Passion Week • How Palm Sunday, the Cleansing of the Temple, and The Last Supper are connected • The powerful symbolism of unleavened bread and how it foreshadows Christ's sacrifice • What it means to remove spiritual leaven from your life • How to engage in Christian spiritual renewal during this time This video is perfect for anyone looking to dive deeper into the biblical Feast of Unleavened Bread, uncover the symbolism of pierced and striped bread, explore the prophetic nature of the Last Supper, and understand how Passion Week aligns with Old Testament feasts in a meaningful and spiritually enriching way. Start your journey of spiritual cleansing and renewal today as we prepare our hearts for the resurrection.
What's the Deeper Purpose of the Sabbath? What does true rest mean in the Bible? In this teaching, we explore the biblical understanding of rest as a spiritual principle rooted deeply in God's covenant relationship with humanity. The five major biblical covenants: • Noahic Covenant • Abrahamic Covenant • Mosaic Covenant • Davidic Covenant • New Covenant Each covenant in Scripture shows God's pattern of rest, with the Sabbath as the sign of the Mosaic Covenant, calling people to trust in divine provision over their own efforts. Jesus, as Lord of the Sabbath, fulfilled its meaning through seven healings, showing the Sabbath is about restoration, not rules. The word Shabbat means "to cease"—an invitation to stop striving and find true rest in God. This video unpacks how God leads His people from works-based striving into spiritual rest, rooted in trust and dependence on His provision.
How to Trust God in Uncertainty—Understanding God's calling often requires stepping beyond logic and into faith. Just as Jesus healed the blind man using mud and saliva, God's instructions may not always make sense—but they always require obedience and trust. Today, God is releasing a double anointing: • One for the secret place of private prayer and devotion • One for the public battlefield of ministry and victory Throughout Jesus' ministry, the power of private prayer laid the foundation for public effectiveness. This principle remains true today—what happens in the secret place directly influences your spiritual authority and impact. David's triumph over Goliath illustrates this truth. His public victory was a result of private battles—defeating lions and bears in secret prepared him for the battlefield. Are you ready to step into supernatural breakthrough through faith, obedience, and private devotion?

Jesus warned His disciples ( which we are also part of) about “leavened bread” for which Jesus Meant to be the doctrine of the Pharisees. In the times we are living in, it is so crucial to stay in the secret place so we can spiritually discern when “bread” which is the word of God has been interpreted or mixed with a leaven agent such as yeast ( compromised messages, false doctrine, tradition being presented as the word of God). Anyone, any preacher is at risk if they don't stay in the secret place! May all messages flow from the secret place, a secret place that God visits because the owner of the secret place fears God and desires His will. God shares His secrets ONLY with friends, friendship being with those who fear Him ( psalm 25:4). That friendship is developed through communication IN THE SECRET PLACE! A public ministry without a secret place is dangerous and prone to passing leavened bread to God's people! God warns that for those who cause the little ones to stumble there is a greater punishment. Don't feed his children leavened bread!

Today Heather has a candid conversation with author and blogger, Sheila Gregoire. They dive deep into the impact of purity culture on women's body image, self-esteem, and relationships. Although the hearts and motives may have started in the right place -- as a response to the 1960s, there have been some detrimental effects of certain modesty and purity culture teachings on both young girls and adult women. Sheila sheds light on how these teachings can lead to damaging beliefs, body image issues, and vulnerability to abusive relationships. The conversation delves into crucial topics such as the damaging effects of purity culture on millennial women, the intersection of Christian teachings and body image struggles, and debunking harmful beliefs about the male-female dynamic. Sheila and Heather share personal experiences and insights, offering a thought-provoking discussion that challenges harmful teachings and advocates for body acceptance based on scripture. If you're interested in gaining valuable insights into this critical topic, don't miss out on this impactful episode. Here are a few other key topics from the conversation: Purity culture and Christian teachings have had damaging effects on women, leading to lower self-esteem, sexual pain disorders, and an increased likelihood of marrying an abuser. Are men more visual? The data Sheila shares around this may absolutely stun you! Harmful messages around modesty and responsibility for men's behavior have perpetuated damaging beliefs, desensitized girls to relationship red flags, and reinforced harmful dynamics between men and women. Exploring these issues is crucial for promoting body acceptance based on scripture and addressing damaging teachings in order to positively impact women's lives and relationships. Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 119. We explore a story from the book of 2 Kings in the Bible, focusing on the downfall of Israel during the reign of King Hoshea. Despite witnessing God's miracles and receiving His commandments, the Israelites, led by their king, turn to idol worship, creating shrines and offering sacrifices to false gods. This disobedience leads to severe consequences when King Shalmaneser of Assyria attacks Samaria, capturing the Israelites. This tragic event serves as a divine punishment for their persistent sinning and breaking the covenant with God. We'll learn how even Judah, the remaining tribe, falls into sin, leading to God's withdrawal of His protection.
