Leadership is warfare—and every battle is about inheritance. In Part 2 of our Joshua series, we move from theory to the field. We confront Amalek, expose compromise, and align under the Captain of the Lord's Host. Presence-led beats personality-led. Why is there so much dumb public policy and what can we do about it?There's government money to address a service need in just about every arena, which is great. But the flip side of that is the rules that are attached to that money. The rules about who can be served, how they can be served, under what circumstances, how money can be spent. All those rules, more often than not, get in the way of Nonprofits' ability to provide a high-quality service that is going to actually solve the problem. It happens so often that we start to think that's just the way it always is. I had a conversation recently with one of my clients who expressed this exact sentiment. She had been dealing with a number of really stupid public policy problems. And one day in exasperation, she just said, “public policy is just bad. It never works.” My initial reaction to that was to argue with her. But the fact is, a lot of the time that's true. The problem with operating from that frame is two things really. One, it presumes things can't be changed. And two, it keeps you operating under a set of limitations that are tangibly impairing your ability to deliver the exceptional outcomes you want to create. It's time to take apart why so much public policy is such a mess. And then look at what we can do about it – without devoting our entire lives to changing public policy. Because we have other work we have to do. There really are things that we can do. And you'll not be surprised to learn that a lot of them center on our messaging and engagement strategies. In this episode, we share:The three main causes of unhelpful, counterproductive public policy around fundingHow good intentions result in some of the worst policy decisionsThe biggest mistake Nonprofit leaders often make when trying to get decisionmakers to change an unhelpful policyWhy your best policy analysis will likely be ignored if you offer it at the wrong point in the processThe perspective shift we must be able to make in order to motivate the decisionmaker to help solve the problem they createdHow to create powerful metaphors that will help decisionmakers see the flaws in their policy Ready to take your messaging and engagement skills to the next level and start getting next-level results? In this episode, host Brendon Dennewill sits down with Bill Wilson, Founder and CEO of Pace Pricing and three-time software entrepreneur with over 20 years building and scaling SaaS companies. Bill shares how he evolved from software developer to pricing strategist after recognizing the deep anxiety founders face around pricing decisions. Through his work guiding hundreds of SaaS teams, he's discovered that pricing isn't just a numbers game—it's about alignment, belief, and understanding the jobs customers hire products to do.The conversation explores why pricing, product, and positioning cannot be separated, and how misalignment at the leadership level cascades throughout organizations, leaving money on the table. Bill unpacks his PACE framework (Profile, Architect, Calibrate, Execute) and explains why he shifted from pure data-driven decisions to building belief through iterative validation. He also tackles how AI is fundamentally reshaping SaaS business models, from enabling outcome-based pricing to introducing new cost structures that challenge traditional economies of scale. This episode is essential for SaaS founders, RevOps leaders, product executives, and B2B growth teams looking to unlock revenue through strategic pricing, eliminate cross-functional friction, and prepare their business models for an AI-driven future. What You'll LearnWhy pricing misalignment at the leadership level quietly becomes a company-wide problemHow the PACE framework brings structure and repeatability to pricing decisionsThe difference between solving a problem vs. executing a job to be doneWhy belief, not data, is the true catalyst for pricing changes and adoptionHow AI is accelerating the shift toward outcome-based pricing modelsWhy product, pricing, and positioning can't be separated, and what happens when they areThe single most impactful action a founder can take if pricing hasn't been reviewed in a yearResources MentionedPace Pricing PACE FrameworkJobs to be Done (JTBD)Bob Moesta April Dunford, author of "Obviously Awesome"HubSpot Intercom Is your business ready to scale? Yael sits down with Alex Edmans, author of May Contain Lies, for a fascinating conversation about how misinformation shapes the way we see the world. They talk about why even fact-checking has its limits and how common biases, such as wanting to confirm what we already believe or seeing things in black and white, can cloud our judgment. Using everyday examples, from the Atkins diet to debates about breastfeeding, Alex shows how data can be bent to tell almost any story. In this episode of the Alcohol Minimalist podcast, Molly shares another installment in her Summer Content Series, featuring guest content from one of the most influential voices in the alcohol-reduction space—Rachel Hart, host of the “Take a Break” podcast.Molly opens up about Rachel's pivotal role in her own journey to change her drinking habits, describing her as the first person who helped her believe it was possible to rethink her relationship with alcohol. Through books, podcasts, and coaching, Rachel's voice provides clarity, validation, and a methodical approach to mindful drinking that aligned closely with the Alcohol Minimalist philosophy. This featured episode challenges one of the most common self-sabotaging thought patterns: the tendency to make absolute declarations about your identity based on drinking behavior. Statements like “I have no willpower,” “I'm just someone who can't moderate,” or “I must have an addictive personality” are not facts—they are beliefs that shape your experience and become self-fulfilling prophecies.Rachel teaches listeners how to stop making their drinking patterns a reflection of their identity and instead approach every off-plan moment with curiosity, not criticism. Using Rachel's “Think-Feel-Act” cycle, this episode is a science-based, compassion-forward guide to interrupting old stories and rewiring your drinking habits.Key Topics Covered:Why absolute statements about identity are so damaging to behavior changeHow belief systems reinforce drinking patternsThe Think-Feel-Act cycle and how it relates to drinking habitsA practical approach to examining moments when we go off-planHow to use curiosity instead of criticism when reflecting on cravings and decisionsThe power of zooming into specific moments instead of generalizing your behaviorWhy You Should Listen: If you're stuck in a cycle of overdrinking and self-recrimination, this episode will help you shift from judgment to awareness. If you still picture farming as dusty tractors and endless manual labor, think again. Today's agriculture runs on GPS-guided equipment, drones, real-time soil sensors, and data systems that look more like Wall Street trading floors than old barns. In this episode, lifelong farmer and innovator Dick Pavelski and Andy Diercks of the Food + Farm Exploration Center pull back the curtain on precision agriculture—the technology, data, and processes that are transforming how we grow and deliver food.We break down the technologies making precision agriculture possible, from variable rate irrigation to “see and spray” weed control, and how data is being used to make decisions at the square-meter level. We also examine how these shifts are influencing agricultural careers, the skills now in demand, and why public understanding of modern farming is critical. Plus, discover the Food + Farm Exploration Center and its role in showing students, families, and policymakers what modern farming really involves.Listen to learn:What a farm looked like 40 years ago, and how that image compares to a modern precision operationHow GPS guidance, drones, and 300 weather stations help farmers make square-meter-level decisionsThe crossover of technologies and skills between manufacturing and precision agricultureThe biggest challenges in attracting and training the next generation of ag professionalsHow one Midwestern center is bridging the gap between farm technology and public awareness3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. Modern agriculture is driven by technology and precision. GPS-guided equipment, variable rate irrigation, and “see and spray” weed control have replaced much of the manual labor and guesswork of past decades. These tools work together to improve yields, reduce inputs, and create a more sustainable and efficient farming process.2. Data is the backbone of today's farm operations. Farmers track weather, soil conditions, and crop needs in real time—often down to individual square meters—using hundreds of sensors and automated systems. This constant stream of information enables faster decision-making and more targeted resource use than was possible a generation ago.3. The skills and careers in agriculture are rapidly changing. Large-scale farms now employ specialists in data analysis, equipment maintenance, and automation, while mid-sized operations require workers with diverse technical abilities.
