In this episode, I welcome my friend and mentor Steve Beckett. Steve is an amazing human being and has such deep wisdom as we all navigate the situation with Covid-19. We talk about the situation as it stands in the UK and the US as of March 17, 2020, including: How quick people are to label "the elderly" and "the medically compromised" as though they are a mere category Where Steve is seeing the rallying of community in the face of a "tsunami" that is coming for both countries in the coming weeks How the Integral quadrants inform our approach to daily life (including specific practices Steve is doing to regulate his nervous system and remain centered) What we are seeing in the "system" in terms of values, trade-offs, and lessons learned We then do a deep dive into why President Trump is making the decisions he is and why he has been approaching this Covid-19 situation with such arrogance. Steve takes us through multiple leadership frameworks to make sense of what seems so senseless to those of us living through it in the US. Steve then walks us through a practice we can all use to regulate ourselves and ensure we are getting out of "fight or flight" mode in a time of overwhelming information coming at all of us. What these scars? I got them recording our Joker episode whilst dancing with the Devil in the Pale Moonlight. Where Steve and Lee discuss the billion dollar smash that is Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix's 2019 'Joker' and compare it to the so serious 1988 Alan Moore classic 'The Killing Joke'. But which is better; the book or the film? Also please excuse our counting failure (again), we call this episode 14, when it is in fact 15. yes, we are stupid!

In this episode we dive into: 1. Where Steve came up with the idea to write his book “The Bezos Letters” and how it went from an idea to reality. 2. Why the biggest risk often times is not taking the risk at all. 3. Why constant change is actually required to move forward and grow. 4. The behind the scenes research it took for “The Bezos Letters” to come to life. 5. Why Steve shifted the layout of the book away from chronological and into 14 main principles and organizational cycles. 6. Why Jeff Bezos believes that failure is necessary for growth and success. 7. The importance of allowing ourselves to be counterintuitive and how this principle has allowed Amazon to continue to grow. 8. The significance of the first letter that Jeff Bezos sent to shareholders and how he constantly revisits this message throughout his correspondence. 9. Why Amazon always maintains a day 1 mindset. 10. The secret 15th principle that Steve would add to his book. 11. Why the “Flywheel” is one of the most important principles, but also may be the hardest to implement. 12. How the principles of Amazon don’t simply apply to business, but also can be actively applied to our personal life as well. www.brenttieri.com https://thebezosletters.com/

Today’s guest and former NFL star, Steve Weatherford, and I have been trying to connect and get him on the show for a year now. But we both came to the same consensus that this specific timing was meant to be. With so many revelations happening recently for this former American football player, Steve feels called now more than ever to uncover all of them and share them with others in podcasts like this (and on his own new podcast show – link in Resources). Today, Steve and I do a deep-dive into all aspects of his life, past and present, focusing not just on what he’s done or doing now, but most importantly about what he’s passionate about and what lights him up. Steve gives permission to all men out there who feel they need to portray an “alpha” man to share their vulnerability instead. We don’t have to focus on our inadequacies – we get to focus on the wins, too. This is such a life-changing (possibly life-saving for some) episode for so many reasons and I’m so excited for you all to listen in. Be sure to let both Steve and I know what your takeaways are! -- Question Highlights: What do you really want to be known for? Do you feel like there’s a value in sharing your journey as you’re becoming this entrepreneur and kind of leaving it the past you’re know for behind? Why now? What made you go down the toughest path I’m guessing you’ve gone down yet? How did you make the shift? Can you participate in philanthropy now from a place of the right intention – and for you? Is it better to give in the dark, give out loud or something in between? In This Episode We Talk about: Being authentic Where Steve’s at in the middle of his transcending journey The importance of sharing vulnerability Performance anxiety in the NFL Why men don’t have to suffer alone Why you don’t have to cover up anxiety or pain achievements Why the “doing” isn’t enough The two different ways to take action Why Steve wants to inspire people Steve’s new podcast, The Steve Weatherford Show Celebrating the moments when you show up as yourself The power of imperfection What Steve did to capture his father’s attention Why Steve doesn’t look for praise anymore Steve’s take on giving And so much more… -- Steve’s Thoughts… “I don’t want my life to be about things that I’ve done, I want it to be about the things that I am.” “I am more than what I do.” “If how you feel about you is predicated of others’ opinions of you, you’re not powerful – you’re powerless.” “I’m leading a crusade for alpha men to show vulnerability in order to gain strength and mastery of themselves.” “My greatest achievement is being myself.” “If I serve people, I need to know what the pulse of my community is.” “You can never fail at being yourself.” -- Steve Weatherford is a former American football punter for the New York Giants. He also played for the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets. Steve is a dedicated husband, doting father, an all-around family man, avid health and fitness role model, a nationally recognized philanthropist, and a Super Bowl winning Punter. Most recently, Steve released his own podcast, The Steve Weatherford Show. He has been recognized nationwide for his charitable endeavors including being the recipient of the coveted Wellington Mara Award for outstanding community service. When you think about real estate development you typically think of the big apartment complex being built in the trendy part of town or the company that’s putting in a new neighborhood down the street. It seems overwhelming to think of taking on a project of that magnitude, but like anything else in life, you can learn how to do it if you approach it the right way. Today’s guest is Steve Olsher, an online personality, author, and entrepreneur who has spent a good deal of time as a real estate investor - and he did so by organizing development projects like the ones I mentioned earlier. How did he do it? Steve tells the story on this episode of Capital Gains. Making money through real estate development 3 different ways. As Steve Olsher got started in real estate development he spent time watching what people did who had been doing it for a long time. Through observation and lots of questions, Steve discovered that there are ways to make money at almost every stage of a development project - from the initial closing all the way to management or sale of the project. When I heard him say that it got my attention so I asked Steve how it’s possible. If you want to hear his answer you’ll have to listen to this episode. And I promise you won’t be disappointed. Steve sees real estate investment opportunities every day as he drives down the street. Steve Olsher lives in southern California, one of the most expensive real estate markets in the United States. Yet, every day as he drives down the street he sees development opportunities that he is confident could make money. How could that be true? Steve’s background in real estate development is what enables him to see how the changes in neighborhoods and communities, coupled with the existing properties can be leveraged into multi-family unit properties that could even include retail space. That kind of development not only meets the needs of the people moving into a popular area like southern California but it also spurs economic growth. You can hear more about Steve’s insights into real estate investing through development, on this episode. Here’s how you can get started in real estate development. After hearing Steve Olsher’s story on this episode I was very curious how he would advise those interested in the possibilities offered through real estate development to get started. So I asked him. His answer was very practical. He says if he was starting all over he’d first do the work it took to meet people who are already overseeing developments in his area. He'd get to know them and find opportunities to come alongside to watch and learn. The benefit of seeing the development process in action when you have no cash involved is unparalleled and powerful. Learn how to make those connections that will help you take the first steps into real estate development by listening to this episode. Steve Olsher’s new idea for monetizing small followings on social media. While Steve Olsher has had a lot of experience investing in real estate developments, that’s not all he’s done. Most people know him from his books or his podcast. It’s in that realm that Steve has been thinking most recently. He’s starting to believe that a handful of people with smaller followings on social media could leverage their small following in a cooperative effort with others who also have small followings. Their combined efforts could produce a monetary benefit as a result. He’s not giving away a lot of details at this point but Steve expects that he’ll have something to show the public by the end of 2016. If you’d like to hear more of the ideas Steve’s mulling over, you can hear all about it on this episode. Outline of This Episode [1:08] My introduction Steve Olsher.
