On the first ever episode of Three, Joel, Amy and Gill address the odd man out. British three-time major champion Andy Murray was often considered to be a member of the Big Four, but over time the term Big Three largely adopted as the best representation of the top of men's tennis. We talk about what Murray did so well to enable consistent winning results on tour, but why he wasn't quite as good as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Three is a show about Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. These competitively dominant tennis icons have been a lifeline to millions of fans around the world. We look to tell their stories through discussions of tennis history, tactics, psychology, technique and more. California-based Joel Drucker has been writing about tennis for nearly 40 years, his work appearing in such outlets as Tennis Channel, Tennis.com, Racquet and a host of general interest media, including the New York Times, HBO, CBS, Cigar Aficionado, Men's Journal and People Magazine. Author of the book, "Jimmy Connors Saved My Life," Joel is also a historian-at-large for the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Amy Lundy is a reporter whose work has been featured on ESPN, CNN and The Golf Channel. She is Director of Films at The Tennis Congress. Gill Gross is the host of Monday Match Analysis. His weekly YouTube show, which analyzes ATP matches and news, has amassed over 5,000 subscribers. The first three episodes of Three will be posted on this RSS feed. Utilizing the latest in technology, and with a wealth of experience, the team at Health & High Performance can assist you with all your running injury & performance needs. So to get back to enjoying your running and achieving the results you are capable of, head to www.healthhp.com.au/run Enjoy my chat with Kelly! I think Kelly has really shown how important it is to work on mobility and range of motion. I also found it interesting how important he finds hydration and sleep, all things I know myself and many other runners can improve on. These are all things that we think we can get away with not worrying about, but they all catch up with us eventually. I do know when I don’t sleep or hydrate enough I feel it when I’m running the next day. I also think the longer I’ve been running, the more that mobility work is vitally important, especially if I want to keep running for years to come! Matt is an award-winning endurance sports journalist and bestselling author of more than 20 books on running, triathlon, fitness, nutrition, and weight loss, including Brain Training for Runners and Racing Weight. His byline appears regularly in national publications including Men's Journal, Outside, and Women's Running. Matt is an experienced running and triathlon coach and certified sports nutritionist. New research proves that runners of all experience and ability levels improve most when they do 80 percent of their training at low intensity. Yet the typical recreational runner does less than half of his or her training in this intensity zone. In his book 80/20 Running, Matt makes the case for slowing down to get faster and shows runners how to break out of the moderate-intensity rut. I believe deeply in this principle and see too many runners getting into this rut. Listen to this podcast with an open mind and reap the benefits in your running! His book 80/20 Running is on Amazon. Matt's website is: https://mattfitzgerald.org/ I hope you now have a greater appreciation for the benefits to slowing down on many of your runs. The grey zone is to be avoided at all costs! Canale Telegram: https://t.me/da0a42Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/da0a42/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/da0a42/Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/37970087Sito: https://da0a42.home.blogOppure contattami!https://da0a42.home.blog/contatti/----------------------Music credits: Feeling of Sunlight by Danosongs - https://danosongs.com

Weigh In I weighed in at 226.6 on May 11th. Today I'm weighing in a 228.6 which is somewhat frustrating. Typically I have some really good days and other days where I go over 2000 calories. So I've been inching my way back up, and that's why I decided to try something new.  How Did Adelle Lose Weight According to her trainer, "She has been doing three things: Eating a balanced and inclusive diet. Going outside your comfort zone with a regular exercise routine. Getting restful sleep to allow your body and mind to recover. Ultimately, he said, you need to be patient. Dynamic Resistance and Yoga So I've heard about Yoga, and if you take the mediation part out I just wanted the exercise. I found that in an online program from an ex-professional wrestler call DDP Yoga. The guy's name is Diamond Dallas Paige and he suffered an injury in his back and used Yoga to get back in shape. While he is very much a "dude" this can be used by anyone.  In simple terms, it's like flexing all of your muscles as you move from one position to another. Dynamic resistance increases your heart rate and gets you into your Fat Burning zone. It converts slow-moving, easy activity into fat-blasting muscle toning that quickly builds a sexy, slender, strong body. Without Lifting a Weight My Heart Rate Was Over 100 I was amazed at doing what appeared to be stretching my heart was going up and up and up. Here is an example if you're sitting in a chair try to push your knees out as you try to pull them in. Another option is to use your arms. Try to move your knees outward as you push on the outside of your knee and push inward. It's your legs vs your arms.  What I liked about this Program after Three Days You can start at any level. They even had some workouts where you are in your bed. Then you migrate to a chair, then eventually standing.  DDP Yoga also offers many modifications to the poses. This is especially helpful for me. According to Men's Journal, men are more likely to get injured doing Yoga as we don't listen to our bodies.  They summarized it is " For a relatively small investment of time and money, DDP Yoga offers a safe and sensible way to tone up and get the flexibility training you likely need. But don’t rely on it as a stand-alone cardio – or weight training – routine." Why Am I Trying Yoga? I have some nice gym equipment, and as Oprah said, "We can always find an excuse," but in some cases have to wear special pants (for my bike to save my butt), or what can seem like a harsh reality to get on a treadmill right out of bed, right now it's me in a pair of shorts in my living room. My Yoga Matt shows up this week (so I didn't wait for it to show up).  I've always thought Yoga was too "woo woo" for me, but as I get older, being able to stretch and maintain flexibility is going to become more important. I don't want to end up like to many older people who are hunched over. I realize sometimes there is a condition that causes that, but for now after three workouts over a week, I like it.  Become a Logical Loser A safe place to support each other as we focus on weight loss. Thanks for joining me for our last interview of the year. This week's guest is coach, author, host of the Whole Athlete Podcast, and Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist, Debbie Potts. We are going to be talking about health and longevity and some ideas for how to prioritize your own health and longevity. This is our last show of 2019 and the 2010s decade. As we prepared the content for this week, I was going through a personal process of reflecting on the previous year, taking stock of where I am on my journey, and re-imagining how I can become the best version of myself. Taking stock of my current self includes being honest with myself about the decisions, actions and behaviors that make me who I am today, and the decisions, actions and behaviors required to take me what I want to become. Having some real information about what's going on the inside that only testing can provide is really appeals to me. https://debbiepotts.net/fdn-health-detective/ Imagine that you could have perfect information about your health. Imaging you know exactly what was going to be your cause of death and when. If you knew it was an accident (the third leading cause of death according to the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm, you would avoid the scenario (activity, location or vehicle) that will lead to your accidental demise. Similarly, imagine if you had perfect information about the future and were certain that without any changes in your lifestyle, you will get a cancer diagnosis 5 years from today. If you were guaranteed you could extend that diagnosis 10, 20 or even 30 years by making changes that lead to that longevity, wouldn't you start today? Except it's not that easy, is it? We don't have that perfect information. We don't have crystal balls. There is no certainty that the changes we make today will translate to longevity of 5 days, 5 years or 15 years. Without that direct connection and certainty, it's hard to prioritize in the near term. That said, the best time to know that there's a problem is as early as possible. Regardless of your budget, my wish for you as look to the new year is that you are thoughtful about your health and make it a priority for the new decade of the 2020s. Whether you have the budget to work with someone like Debbie and can do all of the lab testing that Debbie referred to https://debbiepotts.net/get-started-on-your-2020-new-years-resolutions-now/, which will run you about $1500 in a 3 month coaching program plus $1200 in labs. Or you want to do something a little more DIY and lower cost like the over the counter EverlyWell tests https://www.everlywell.com/, consider getting some real information about how your body is performing, and take care of yourself in the new year. Year End Process for Myself The discussion about longevity weighed heavily in my year-end reflections. I spend this time of year reflecting on the year and revisiting my long term goals and setting some short term ones. My reflections span career, finances, health and fitness. This podcast is partly the result of the process that I'm going to share here. After my last Ironman race 5 1/2 years ago, I knew I needed a break from Ironman but didn't know what I wanted to do next. I was generally ready for some self-exploration and needed to create some direction for myself. I had been reading several books on the topic of setting and achieving goals or taking on life changes. How I Program Myself To Reach My Goals I've put together a formula that works for me. It comes from a collection concepts that have common threads through a number of "how to achieve goals" programs and authors, including Tony Robbins and Mark Divine, author of The Unbeatable Mind. Defining the Mission Statement - There's too much detail to cover this today, but in essence it should be something you produce after doing some self-exploration about your real values and what is truly most important to you. Goals that align to the Mission Statement - I categorize my goals by family, work, hobbies. You may find other categories based on your priorities and values. Envisioning the Goal in the finest detail (the date, the achievement, what it looks like, see yourself) AM What did I dream last night and how does it relate to my Mission and goals? Use the nightstand notebook as a resource. This is a notebook that you keep at your bedside to write down details of dreams (if any) as soon as you wake from them. Write down as many details as you can remember in that short moment. The memory will fade fast in some cases. What Action or Actions (training, call, meeting, research note) will I complete today to move me toward my goal?   Make sure there is time blocked on your calendar to complete the task. If you think you need a fallback time, block that out as well. What is my personal Mission Statement? Note if there are any new words or ideas that occur. Listen to that voice and consider updating your Mission Statement. What decisions did I make today that moved me toward my goals and Mission? Which did not? Be honest and write it down. What Action or Actions (call, meeting, research note) will I complete tomorrow to move me toward my goal? What Challenge do I need to overcome to reach my goal? Have your notebook open to a clean page with a pen or pencil ready to write. This should be easily accessible from your bed, ideally without having to get out of bed. If you wake from a dream overnight, reach for the pad/pencil and write down as many details (people, events, colors, sizes, feelings) quickly before you forget. You will likely not remember in 5 hours, let alone 5 minutes. The nightstand notebook serves another purpose. It is a good way to handle any thoughts you have about tasks or to-dos.         If you write it down, your mind won't have to try and keep track of it or work to store it into memory, enabling the mind to slow down and prepare or resume sleep. PM Journal Daily - this is a cycle of AM and PM journaling that work together   With that backdrop, I use this time of year to revisit my personal mission statement, reflect on the last year and set goals for the new year. I thought I'd share my reflection questions with you in this episode. Am I living according to my Mission Statement? My personal mission statement is to Provide a secure future for my wife and daughters. To follow my dreams. To live a healthy life. To enjoy my endurance journey and help others to enjoy the same. I feel I am doing that for the most part. I have some career and finance goals this year. Am I reaching my full potential as a husband, father, son and brother? Am I reaching my full potential as a friend?       I feel like I don't make as much time for friends as I would like. I feel very guilty if I forget someone's birthday, or forget something that’s personally important to a friend, or a family member's name. ...in my professional career? ...as an Ambassador of our sport …as an athlete? I was fairly directionless in 2019. I didn't have a specific goal. I just signed up for a bunch of races, most of which I had already done. The two that were new for me this year were the AvonFest and Non-Draft Nationals.       I really enjoyed the out of town races, even though there's a lot of logistics that goes along with it.       I definitely miss the challenge of a full Iron-distance race and I feel the tug. It being a first year of the new decade also makes me think my year of 2020 should include a challenge as epic as what I did in 2010, which was IM CDA. …with my personal connections and concern for others …what was I most passionate about? ….what did I struggle with? …what am I passionate about? I'm still passionate about the podcast. The desire to learn. The inspiration it provides is like a drug. The personal connections we get to have and the fun places we get to go. You will hear more in 2020 about where we are taking the show and the partnership with 303Endurance and 303Triathlon with Bill Plock. …as a coach? I am very proud of what the athletes that I worked with accomplished. One had a goal of finishing his first 70.3 and did. The other set out a goal of qualifying for Team USA and Worlds in Edmonton and she did. At the end of the season, my athletes and I sat down and wrote out what worked and what didn't this season. We laid out a list of things we will change for the 2020 season and what the race schedule will be. I learned so much going through that process with them. I also had to put my ego on the shelf and really see the experience from my athlete's perspective. It also helps to be an active athlete. One of the things I will be doing differently this year is having a weekly score card that clearly communicates what areas of training are progressing as planned, ahead of plan or behind plan.   Year End Process for Athletes I've started writing the training plans for my athletes. We started in the Fall by having my athletes identify and sign up for their most important races of the 2020 season. I use an Excel spreadsheet where every column represents a week of the year. The races are identified on the on the top row of the spreadsheet on the corresponding week. Along the leftmost column I have, by discipline, the # of training sessions, the duration of the longest workout, and total volume. This serves as a roadmap for the TrainingPeaks training plan that I'm building for my athletes. This also serves as a way for me to communicate clearly with an athlete what the time commitment is for every week of the year and a benchmark to evaluate training plan adherence. Of course, as a coach I am building in target TSS and CTL scores based on the athlete. If you are curious what this looks like, I've gone ahead and posted a copy of the Athlete Weekly Training Roadmap on the Resources page of https://milehighendurancepodcast.com/resources.       Endurance News: Marathon training - a guide to getting it right So you're training for a marathon. Here, coaches, experts and marathon greats share their tips on how to train like a pro. Run easy on most days On most of your runs –especially the long ones– resist the urge to push; instead, maintain an easy pace, advises running coach Janet Hamilton. You should be running at a pace that allows you to have full-sentence conversations with your running partners. Easy running reduces the impact on your body and staves off fatigue, enabling you to log more miles with less risk of picking up an injury. What’s more, the slow pace actually prepares you better for the distance. When you run a marathon, most of your body’s fuel comes from your aerobic (using oxygen) system – your hardworking muscles need oxygen-rich blood to power each contraction. Your body adapts to easy miles by strengthening your heart, sprouting more capillaries to infuse oxygen into muscles and building more mitochondria, the factories in cells that produce energy. https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/marathon/a30256981/marathon-training-guide/     How to Go Beyond the Marathon Distance Lose your fear - If a race is twice the distance of a marathon, it doesn’t mean your training needs to be twice as hard. Many people complete ultras on around the same mileage as a marathon training plan. Although you’ll be on your feet for longer in an ultra, you’ll be moving slower than marathon pace. It’s significantly less intense and less taxing on joints – repetitive pounding on asphalt is brutal compared with softer, changing terrain that better spreads stress around the body. Also, hiking the uphills (and most trail ultras are lumpy) is not only legitimate but a smart strategy, to preserve muscles. You may even start looking forward to hills and the sneaky walking break they allow. Other tips include, Get out more, Get the fueling right, Shift your mindset, Speed it up, Get specific, Learn to juggle, Find your way, and Recover well. https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/ultra/a30280579/how-to-run-ultra-marathon/     Video of the Week: Heavy As Lead - From 300 Pounds to the Leadville 100 Heavy as Lead is the story of Jason Cohen, who went from 300lbs to just a short 7 years later found himself running the Leadville Trail 100. Jason, at the age of 27, found himself looking at the number 297 on his bathroom scale. Jason resolved to never let that number touch 300 and has since lost over 120 pounds. His incredible journey has taken him through his battle with obesity and took him to the starting line of the Leadville Trail 100 Race on August 18th, 2018. This film documents Jason's story of losing the weight, becoming an athlete, and running the Leadville 100. Jason was given the idea to tell his story by his good friend, Mark LeBlanc, who realized that Jason's story needed to be told to the world. Mark is co-creating Heavy as Lead with Jason and is the person behind the camera for much of the film. Anders Hoffman of Project Iceman will be joining us in the future to talk about the documentary of the first ever, World Record breaking Ironman triathlon in Antarctica in February 2020, the Iceman, to show that limitations are perceptions. The purpose is to inspire other people to dare pursue their biggest dreams. https://www.projecticeman.com/   Last week we had Sarah Crowley and we were talking to her about her hydration/nutrition prep for hot and cooler races. Welcome to the "Sober is Dope" PODCAST, with your host, POP Buchanan. This episode is dedicated to one of our "Sober is Dope" heroes "Eminem". Eminem Commemorates 11 Years of Sobriety on April 20th, and inspired all of his fans. The article below was featured in Men"s Health Magazine. "It's been over a decade since Eminem began his road to recovery. The 46-year-old rapper shared a photo on social media of a medallion stamped with the Roman numeral "XI" and the words  "Unity," "Service," and "Recovery" to commemorate 11 years of sobriety.  The photo was accompanied by a caption: "11 years - still not afraid." The caption refers to the 2010 song "Not Afraid," which directly  addresses Eminem's struggles with addiction: "It was my decision to get  clean, I did it for me/Admittedly I probably did it subliminally for  you." The song was featured on Recovery, an album that Eminem dedicated to his battle to overcome addictions to Vicodin, Valium, Ambien and methadone between 2002 and 2008. Eminem first tried to get sober in 2005 by going to  rehab, but relapsed after the shooting death of his friend, DeShaun  "Proof" Holton. Two years later, Eminem nearly  died from an accidental methadone overdose, which prompted another  attempt to get clean, this time without entering a rehab facility. "The second time I didn’t go to rehab," Eminem told The New York Times in 2010. "I  just went to a regular hospital. I detoxed in the hospital, and then I  came home. I couldn’t go back to rehab. I felt like I was Bugs Bunny in  rehab." He continued, "When Bugs Bunny walks  into rehab, people are going to turn and look. People at rehab were  stealing my hats and pens and notebooks and asking for autographs. I  couldn’t concentrate on my problem." Eminem  said that being a father to his biological daughter Hailie and his two  adopted daughters, Lainey and Whitney was central to his motivation to  get sober. "I love [my kids] so much, and they’ve helped me through so  many things," he said. The rapper also said that he replaced "addiction with exercise" after ballooning to 230 pounds after his overdose. Eminem's post-overdose workouts included running, boxing, sit-ups and push-ups. "I got an addict's brain, and when it came to running, I think I got a little carried away," Eminem told Men's Journal. "I became a fucking hamster. Seventeen miles a day on a treadmill. I  would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would  run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I'd come home and run  another eight and a half. I started getting OCD about the calories,  making sure I burned 2,000 every day. In the end I got down to about 149  pounds." He also used at-home workout DVDs like Shaun T's Insanity, P90X and Body Beast to help get back into shape. "I  guess I'm pretty compulsive working out," Eminem said. "I feel like if I  step away from it for too long, if I have a crazy week and take a  five-day break, it'll be like starting over. I'm afraid that if it goes  beyond that, I might lose the motivation. Once you're at a place where  you've made progress and you've got some time invested in it, you don't  wanna quit and give up what you started." Since getting sober, Eminem has released five solo albums and headline major festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella." What was unique about this plan was it's emphasis on "quality" workouts instead of "junk miles". The theory being that the high intensity training is really where the value of training lies. The approach of the plan was for the athlete to spend a greater percentage of your training on high intensity and reduce the time consuming long workouts. This plan allocated very few days for recovery. In fact, I think it was three weeks before I had the first "recovery" day on my calendar. At about 9-10 weeks into the plan, myself and a couple of other friends that were doing the same plan all got sick. We were showing all the symptoms of overtraining. It took some adjustments to avoid additional overtraining that season. Since then, I have come to appreciate and respect the generally accepted 80/20 rule as espoused by every expert, coach and pro athlete that has been on this podcast. The theory with this approach is that 80% of training should be easy and is extremely valuable. It allows for the physiological adaptations for aerobic endurance and does not over stress the body, allowing for faster recovery to be ready for the hard workouts when they have to be done. Regardless of approach, overtraining is a risk. You can reach equally high levels of stress with a high volume of 80/20 training, and it's important that you allow the body to recover adequately between workouts and training blocks like the traditional 3 week mesocycle. Training Stress Balance Signs of Over Training Testing for Over Training   "What's New in the 303": Ironman Boulder 70.3, Chris Leiferman prevailed to take first place with a time of 3:44:32. According to Article IV, Rule 4.4, the wetsuit rule is stated as follows: “Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.” Edgewater Beach Water Quality Update   USA Triathlon is aware of the recent rainfall in Cleveland that caused swimming restrictions at Edgewater Beach on Tuesday due to heightened bacteria levels. We are working closely with Cleveland Metroparks to monitor and test the water quality in Lake Erie on a continuous basis.     Form's Goggles: There are lots of smart gadgets that track running, but few track swimming — that is, if you’d like something that’s built for swimming first, as opposed to a device with swim-tracking features tacked on. Form, a new fitness company founded by former Recon Instruments employees, is looking to solve this problem with its first product, the $199 Swim Goggles. The #1 New York Times bestselling authors of The Heart of Everything That Is return with one of the most inspiring—and underappreciated—chapters in American history: the story of the Continental Army’s six-month transformation in Valley Forge. December 1777. It is 18 months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and some 12,000 members of America’s beleaguered Continental Army stagger into a small Pennsylvania encampment 23 miles northwest of British-occupied Philadelphia. The starving and half-naked force is reeling from a string of demoralizing defeats at the hands of King George III’s army, and are barely equipped to survive the coming winter. Their commander in chief, the focused and forceful George Washington, is at the lowest ebb of his military career. The Continental Congress is in exile and the American Revolution appears to be lost. Yet a spark remains. Determined to keep the rebel cause alive through sheer force of will, Washington transforms the farmland plateau hard by the Schuylkill River into a virtual cabin city. Together with a dedicated coterie of advisers both foreign and domestic—Marquis de Lafayette, Baron von Steuben, the impossibly young Alexander Hamilton, and John Laurens—he sets out to breathe new life into his military force. Against all odds, as the frigid and miserable months pass, they manage to turn a bobtail army of citizen soldiers into a professional fighting force that will change the world forever. Valley Forge is the story of how that metamorphosis occurred. Bob Drury and Tom Clavin, the team behind such bestsellers as The Heart of Everything That Is, The Last Stand of Fox Company, and Halsey’s Typhoon, show us how this miracle was accomplished despite thousands of American soldiers succumbing to disease, starvation, and the elements. Here is Steuben, throwing himself into the dedicated drilling sessions he imported from Prussian battlefields. Here is Hamilton, proffering the shrewd advice that wards off his beloved commander in chief’s scheming political rivals. Here is Laurens, determined to integrate the Continental Army with freed black men and slaves. Here is Lafayette, thirsting for battlefield accolades while tenaciously lobbying his own king for crucial French aid. At the center of it all is George Washington, in the prime of his life yet confronting crushing failure as he fends off political conspiracies every bit as pernicious as his incessant military challenges. The Virginia planter-turned-general is viewed by many as unqualified to lead the Continental Army after the humiliating loss of Philadelphia, and his detractors in and out of Congress plot to replace him. The Valley Forge winter is his—and the revolution’s—last chance at redemption. And, indeed, after six months in the camp, Washington fulfills his destiny, leading the Continental Army to a stunning victory in the Battle of Monmouth Court House. The momentum is never again with the Redcoats. Valley Forge is the riveting true story of a nascent United States toppling an empire. Using new and rarely seen contemporaneous documents—and drawing on a cast of iconic characters and remarkable moments that capture the innovation and energy that led to the birth of our nation—Drury and Clavin provide the definitive account of this seminal and previously undervalued moment in the battle for American independence. Tom Clavin is the author or coauthor of sixteen books. For fifteen years he wrote for The New York Times and has contributed to such magazines as Golf, Men's Journal, Parade, Reader’s Digest, and Smithsonian. He is currently the investigative features correspondent for Manhattan Magazine. He lives in Sag Harbor, New York. There's something fishy about the cover of another one of his pubs, Men's Journal, and we'll explain why. (Sorry about the politics talk, but sometimes we gotta dig in.) Plus, the weirdness around Denise Richards joining The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, "Liam's TWO Cheryl Lookalikes" (thx Daily Mail!), all of the teens we didn't know at the Teen Choice Awards, why St. Tropez is OVER and did Blac Chyna's caboose, well, vamoose?

(Cover Photo by Josh Perez) This week I was lucky enough to have Brendan Leonard and Jayson Sime come over and chat with me about their excellent film "How to Run 100 Miles". We recorded this "live" in studio....aka outside on the porch in my back yard (It was a 60 degree day and this is an outdoor podcast...so I thought "what the heck?") If you have not seen the film, do yourself a favor and check it out immediately. It is the inspiring, touching, and often hilarious story of these two friends and their quest to train for and run their first 100 mile ultramarathon through the rugged mountains of Northern Colorado. Their 100 mile experience connected on so many levels, but to me the film is an ode to true friendship and, more specifically, to the people in our lives who always say "why not?". My absolute favorite type of people who push us and challenge us to do more and be more than anything we ever thought possible. These two are shining examples. They come up with crazy ideas, train their butts off, support each other through and through and then get it done. For ultrarunners the film connects on the ideas of pushing through discomfort, dealing with pain and suffering, and how to handle....errrr...stomach issues in the woods. I'm very excited to share this conversation! Both Brendan and Jayson are fascinating people in their own rights, but you get them together and they completely shine. Cracking jokes, sharing stories, challenging each other, sharing the emotional moments, and everything else that comes from wonderful lifelong friendships. Brendan Leonard is an adventure, travel, and human experience writer who's work has appeared in Backpacker, National Geographic, Outside, Men's Journal, and other publications. He has also written a few books "Sixty Meters to Anywhere" and "The Great Outdoors: a User's Guide". He's a climber, mountaineer and all around adventure athlete who blogs about outdoor adventures for the "Everyman and Everywoman" at www.semi-rad.com. Jayson Sime is a public speaker, life coach and Bikram Yoga Instructor who's mission is to spread the message that everyone has the potential to become their best selves. Stacy’s Wild Idea: To experience places he and others served in war through outdoor adventures, overcome addiction and use adventure (and humor) for good. Not many of my interviews start with a story about getting kidnapped that are also comedic. But at six-foot-seven with an even bigger personality, Stacy Bare is not your average guy or storyteller.  He received a Bronze Star for his time spent serving in Iraq from 2006 to 2007, but struggled with depression, addiction and even contemplated suicide when he returned home from war. When a friend introduced him to rock climbing, however, the course of his life changed forever. Soon after, Stacy created Veterans’ Expeditions and Adventure Not War, taking vets outside and even back to the places they experienced war from the perspective of someone enjoying the outdoors. In 2014, he was named the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, a well-deserved title. Currently the director of The Sierra Club Outdoors, the National Director of Programming and Operations at The Phoenix, as well as a brand champion at The North Face, he’s a sought after speaker and presenter with stories about him everywhere from Men's Journal to Outside Magazine, and for good reason. On this episode we talk about war, the power of the outdoors, how to start a movement, climbing with Alex Honnold, skiing in Iraq, addiction, and so much more. This episode is dedicated to Ann Krcik, an executive at The North Face, and a mentor of Stacy’s, who helped paved the way for many women (and men) in the outdoor industry. Listen to this episode if:  You or someone you know is a veteran. You’ve ever survived a trauma. You want to start a movement. You love getting other people outside.
