There are about 250,000 Ukrainian parolees who have entered the United States as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the context of U.S. immigration law, an immigration parolee is an individual granted temporary permission to enter or remain in the United States but without establishing a path to permanent residency. Iryna Mazur, a U.S. immigration attorney and Honorary Consul of Ukraine to Philadelphia, discusses their current status under the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) federal programs. On January 27, 2025, the Trump administration placed all parole programs on hold, and also, Ukraine was never redesignated for another TPS period. It is expected that the Administration will make a final decision with regards to the future of the U4U program and relevant re-parole authorizations by the end of April 2025. https://fimlaw.com/meet-our-lawyers/ https://www.consularcorpsofphiladelphia.org/ukraine/

“There is a lack of information and some actual misinformation regarding current immigration policies do deal with today,” says immigration attorney Jacob Monty, a partner with Texas law firm Monty & Ramirez, LLP. Monty serves on both the James Beard Foundation and the Texas Restaurant Association boards of trustees and advised the George W. Bush administration on immigration reform. “When it comes to targeted arrests, the hysteria is much worse than the reality," says Monty. "Violators have typically been notified to deport but have ignored the order and are usually picked up at their homes as to not disrupt employers and other public places.” In this episode, Monty explains what restaurant operators should do when faced with notice of intention to audit (NOI), as well as the steps for accepting and filing employees I-9's. He also explains how to prevent I-9 audits, the self-auditing process and correcting errors, and avoiding fraudulent I-9 requests and other scams. As a restaurant operator, proper I-9 compliance means one less thing to keep you awake at night. Tune in for useful guidance to clarify the process.

This week I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Dionnie Pfunde. To say the Dionnie is an immigration attorney doesn't do her or the work she's doing any justice, she is so much more than that! Dionnie is an advocate for the forgotten and downtrodden. She has developed a practice that focuses on legal immigration and how the process of entering this country should take place. We discussed the issues surrounding legal immigration ( The border crisis will be addressed in our part 2 episode). She provided so much insight into the plight and process of those trying to enter this country legally and the obstacles they face, I was reminded of the complexities and our general lack of knowledge about a system that has been in existence since this country was founded. Sit back and give this episode a listen, come away with a better understanding and knowledge of a situation that quickly dissolves into the gray. https://www.linkedin.com/in/dionniewynterpfunde/As always I aim to instill confidence and encouragement to my clients so that they gain strong self esteem and determination to achieve just anything. As of May 2023, there were an estimated 110 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Many are escaping wars, gang violence or repressive regimes, others are fleeing climate change impacts. Some are leaving collapsed economies where they can't feed their families. How journalists cover refugees and immigration has a major impact on public perceptions. This is the first in a series of episodes looking at the intersection of journalism, refugees and immigration because it's such an important issue, and because how journalists report on it has such a strong impact on public attitudes.Guest Dina Francesca Haynes is an immigration and human rights attorney with decades of experience around the world. She worked for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Bosnia and Afghanistan, and with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Rwanda, among other international organizations. TIMESTAMP: (4:51) In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss three separate cases of missing people. Jared Shadeed was a successful Immigration Attorney in Washington, D.C. In the Summer of 2023, Jared suddenly quit the job that he had worked so hard for, packed up his vehicle and headed on a cross-country road trip. On July 30, Jared was seen on CCTV checking into an Airbnb in Seattle, Washington. He took his laptop, phone and luggage into the property and he left again. He has not been seen since. Jared's car was found abandoned days later, with the keys inside, in Los Angeles. Prisma Reyes had lunch with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Ryan in April 2019 in Mesquite, Texas. The two got into an argument and her boyfriend stormed off, leaving Prisma at the bar alone. She remained there for a few hours, drinking until the bartender cut her off. Prisma left the venue and became involved in a road rage incident where she showed a gun to the other party. She left the scene before police could arrive. Prisma was last seen on CCTV soon after that, in the parking garage of Ryan's apartment complex. She seems unsteady on her feet and can be seen talking on the phone. Prisma leaves the view of the camera and has not been seen since. Law enforcement have said that Ryan is not a suspect in her case. In June 2023, Gwen Brunelle told her parents and her boyfriend that she was leaving home in Boise, Idaho to go on a road trip to Fresno, California. Gwen's hobby and passion was showing rabbits and she told her family that she was going to meet with a judge in that industry. Gwen packed up her 11 rabbits and hit the road. On Friday June 30, a police officer found Gwen's car abandoned with her rabbits inside – many of them had perished in the heat. Gwen was nowhere to be found. After her disappearance, her family found out that she never had plans to meet anyone in Fresno and CCTV showed some erratic behavior on Gwen's part. As of October 2023, she remains missing.
