Bryan Power, Chief People Officer at Nextdoor, discusses how AI is transforming workplace leadership, requiring CPOs to become more strategic and creative. He shares insights on scaling AI adoption, maintaining founder mentality, and building authentic connections while navigating the rapid pace of technological disruption. TAKEAWAYS AI adoption requires treating it like a teammate, not a tool, with dedicated time for learning and experimentation. Chief People Officers must be involved in AI implementation decisions as the line between hiring people versus tools blurs. Companies should invest in early-career talent who are "AI natives" and bring fresh perspectives to innovation. Jason Demers played over 700 games in the NHL, represented Canada at the Olympics, and was the “glue in the locker room” for five franchises. Teammates knew him as the guy who brought humour, energy, and heart. But inside, Jason was battling something invisible—crippling anxiety that made every night feel like fighting for his life. Jason opens up about the duality of his career: the confident defenceman fans saw on the ice, and the young man masking stress and fear with substances and a smile in the dressing room. He discusses injuries, pressure, and the emotional toll of professional sports, but also resilience, rediscovery, and what it means to find peace. Today, Jason is helping young adults address their mental health challenges with tools such as breathwork, journaling, and emotional vulnerability. His mission is simple: if he can help even one kid feel less alone, then every struggle he went through was worth it. A powerful show and one that will resonate with anyone struggling with the realities of their life.
The team starts by discussing how players can get fired up for the final game of the season when they're out of finals contention. Izak Rankine's suspension gets handed down, and the team chat through the fallout, the delay in the decision, and what the AFL and Adelaide overlooked in the process. Bernie Vince phones in from Adelaide for a Crow's perspective, and K-Mac brings back the Queen's Queries - including an alarming story about Hev's Cat. Isaac puts injury management up for his Premiership Piece - then the team quickly talk about the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle clash, and why Gold Coast should be extremely wary of Port Adelaide this weekend. This week's episode features NBA player and Utah State legend Sam Merrill. His journey—from quiet gym hours to big-stage moments—reminds us that greatness grows from daily choices. Sam's counsel hits three Especially for Athletes principles head-on: Be Resilient, Win the Hour, and Seek to Bless, Not to Impress. Here are a few highlights to discuss with your team or family—and a link to the full conversation at the end. 1) Be Resilient: Build Macro Confidence Sam distinguishes between the ups and downs of a single shot and the deeper trust built over months and years. “I'm a very macro confident person… my confidence game to game or shot to shot can go up and down, but I've always felt so confident in the work I'm putting in—that it's going to pay off… During those years where I wasn't sure it was going to work out in the NBA, I felt very confident it would work out somewhere because I put in the work.” E4A Takeaway: Resilience isn't pretending every moment feels great. It's choosing to keep working when the results are delayed. Believe in the process you control. 2) Win the Hour: Choose “Want-To” over “Have-To” Sam's separator isn't a secret drill—it's the intention behind every rep. “Are you going to the gym because you have to… or because you want to get better and get something done? I've played with guys who are there because they have to be, and guys who are there because they want to be. I always felt like I wanted to be there—and still do.” E4A Takeaway: Before each workout, decide your purpose. Go to get something done. Stack intentional hours—one by one—until the pattern becomes your edge. 3) Seek to Bless, Not to Impress: Be a Selfless Teammate Even at the highest level, teams thrive when players choose people over ego. “Being a good teammate is being as selfless as you can be… Ask yourself: ‘Am I being selfless for my teammates? Is this helping all of us, not just me?' I've had great teammates—Jrue Holiday was an insanely good human… And with Donovan Mitchell, he cares about everybody, communicates, understands what role players go through.” E4A Takeaway: Your influence is bigger than your box score. Use your voice and your energy to lift others. That's leadership that lasts. Why This Matters Sam's message fits the heart of Especially for Athletes: develop confidence through consistent work, be intentional with every hour, and value people over praise. That's how sports become a tool for character—not just a chase for achievements.

2025 Detroit Lions Halfway Through Preseason: Practice Takeaways & Depth Chart Shifts With three days of joint practices in the books and their third preseason game looming against the Miami Dolphins, the Detroit Lions are striking the right balance between refinement and evaluation. In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, titled “2025 Detroit Lions Halfway Through Preseason,” we break down key developments—from standout performances in joint workouts to the Detroit Lions depth chart dynamics shaping up as Training Camp 2025 winds down. Amon‑Ra St. Brown has been nothing short of spectacular. During joint sessions against the Dolphins, he repeatedly outmatched defenders with crisp routes and reliable hands. He opened one-on-one drills with a smooth 40-yard touchdown and continued to dominate in the red zone with back-to-back scores. Teammates and analysts have labeled him a “matchup nightmare”. Meanwhile, “Jamo”, a.k.a. Jamison Williams, continues to stand out this summer as well, showing explosive playmaking ability and drawing that supportive nod of confidence from his teammates and opposing coaches. Detroit's defense looked dominant, holding Miami scoreless over nine red zone snaps and stifling drives with relentless pressure and tight coverage. Players like Aidan Hutchinson, Jack Campbell, and Myles Adams delivered impact—supporting the notion that the defense remains a group to fear. Injuries are reshaping the depth chart: Cornerback Dicaprio Bootle and OL Keaton Sutherland have been placed on IR, prompting the Lions to add cornerback Allan George and offensive lineman Zack Johnson for depth ahead of their next preseason appearance. As Detroit Lions players to watch, keep an eye on Jamo continuing to carve his path, Amon‑Ra sustaining his elite form, and the young defenders who are quietly rising. The adjustment to new coaches and schemes, particularly with OC John Morton in place, has been noticeable, though St. Brown expressed the offense still has growing pains. Looking ahead, the upcoming game against Miami isn't just another preseason contest—it's another chance to redefine pecking order on the Detroit Lions depth chart before the regular season drops. With the roster still evolving, every rep counts.
