Are you struggling with addiction, or even a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)? Is it wreaking havoc in your life? I know I have, and it is a tough road for many of us. This is not an exclusive club; it hits people of all socio-economic backgrounds, races, young/old, and men and women. Today, I have a very special guest and friend, Steve Gibb. Yes, that name may sound familiar, as he is the son of Barry Gibb... Those BeeGees guys who were a little famous in the 70s and 80s. Steve struggled mightily with addiction for decades, and finally hit rock bottom and decided it was time to change. So how did he do it? Some fancy-schmancy and exclusive rehab clinic costing thousands a day? Spending a year with a Buddha Monk? Nope, he went all-in on changing his health and making it a priority. He even went so deep he owned a Crossfit for a while. You have heard me say it time and time again... without your health and focusing on it daily life is going to be a very hard road. That is why it is the first leg in the Three-Legged Stool of The Simple Life. About the Guest: Stephen Gibb is a singer/songwriter/producer/actor and currently an active member of The Barry Gibb Band, performing and recording alongside his father on guitar and vocals. Stephen has been co-writing with his father for over a decade which produced several songs for Barbra Streisand’s "Guilty Pleasures" album in '05 certified Gold in the U.S.A & Platinum in the U.K. and more recently the title song “Angels” from the film "Shepherds & Butchers" which won “Best Original Song” at the RapidLion Awards, which is South Africa's international film festival. He has also written songs for Ricky Skaggs and Bonnie Tyler. The biggest highlight came in October of 2016 when Barry’s first solo record in many years entitled “In The Now” (Sony Records) was released to critical acclaim and Ultimately debuted at #2 in the UK (Gold) and New Zealand (6x Platinum) and #3 in Australia (4xPlatinum). With all songs being co-written by Barry, Stephen, & Ash Gibb for that release. Stephen as a solo artist, is currently writing & recording new music for his debut record. He has been an active member of several Internationally acclaimed Heavy Metal bands in the last 20 years recording and touring the world. Notably, as a bass player in Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society and as a Guitarist for 58 (Nikki Sixx’s 1st side project), Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow, JASTA, and Saigon Kick. TV Credits: Later with Jools Holland, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, CBS This Morning, The One Show (UK), Strictly Come Dancing (UK) Film : Bad Boys II (2003), Reefa (2020) Topics Discussed: How Steve and I met each other * A bit about Steve and how he ended up on the road of drug and alcohol addiction * Why Steve and I think many Americans are fighting addictions and not living the life they want * What was it that made Steve realize he needed to change his life or end up dead * How Steve found exercise and used his addictive personality to focus on positive instead of negative habits * How Steve focused on his health to fight addiction and turn his life around * How you don’t have nothing if you don’t have your health * How Steve has come to the conclusion him and his family want to live off the grid * How getting back to nature and meditating can help you get rebalanced in this crazy world * How being connected and engaged in life is the key to happiness * How critical thinking is crucial to living a life of freedom * Why getting back to basics and not overthinking is the way to optimal health * Steve tells what he thinks is the first step you need to take when fighting addiction Episode Resources: * Steve’s website: https://www.stephengibbmusic.com/ * The Simple Life Website: https://www.thesimplelifenow.com *Make sure to signup and be a member of The Simple Life In...

There are two massive lies that pervade real estate investing - that you can succeed without direct actions that generate wealth, and that you have to take advantage of people to win. We can choose to do things differently. Doing what other people aren’t willing to do is what will propel us to achieve our wildest dreams and make an impact. It’s possible to sell and still be likable. We can be the people who create an experience where consumers feel helped and valued, not taken advantage of. What separates a good salesperson from a bad one? How do people stop their own growth by delegating too fast? In this episode, I’m joined by entrepreneur, sales trainer, podcast host and founder of the Real Estate Disruptors movement, Steve Trang. He shares the reasons behind his success, and how he’s redefining what it means to be a salesperson. Three Things You’ll Learn In This Episode Why Steve did so well in 2020 when other entrepreneurs were having a hard time Steve, like many other entrepreneurs, saw massive success in 2020, but it didn’t come out of thin air. It’s the culmination of a strong foundation, hard work, consistency, and the willingness to do what others aren’t. The groundwork his team laid over the years paid off. The difference between a good salesperson and a bad one The worst type of sales training for investors teaches ways to take advantage of people in a tough spot. You’re not just dealing with a property, you’re dealing with a home and painful experiences like divorce, death, or financial strain. Ethics and integrity always matter. Why we can’t win without consistent action There’s no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme in real estate investing. Many people struggle because they want to skip past the hard work it takes to succeed. In this business, you can’t delegate cold calling, it’s what actually creates the wealth. Guest Bio- Steve Trang is an entrepreneur, investor, author, speaker, podcast host, and sales trainer. He is the founder of the Real Estate Disruptors movement. He started his podcast in the middle of 2018 to inspire wholesalers and real estate agents to double their incomes by adding a second leg to their business. The podcast has now grown to ten thousand followers, with new members of the community sharing their success stories every week. Steve's legacy will be to create 100 Millionaires. Steve trains the best salespeople across the country on how to effectively communicate with prospects to learn what prospects truly want, which results in more sales. https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevetrang https://www.disruptors.com/max

“I knew I didn’t like myself, but I didn’t even know myself.” -Steve Today, Ben and I are chatting with Steve, our intern at Rock Recovery Center, who will celebrate 12 years of sobriety this week! Steve has been with us since January. He is attending university for his bachelor’s degree in social work, and we are excited to have him on the show today to talk about his recovery and his work here at Rock. What Steve is Contributing to Rock Recovery Center Being an addict in recovery, Steve understands our family's struggles and challenges here we at Rock Recovery Center go through regularly. “I think I can contribute to working with young adults, as I was a young adult when I decided to go into recovery.” His parents sent him into recovery, where he was able to get back on his feet and stop living the junkie lifestyle that was “exhausting.” Steve’s History of Drug Use Growing up with Crohn's disease, Steve was in and out of the hospital dealing with the medical implications of this auto-immune disease from the time he was 11 to the time he was 17. The doctors had put him on high doses of Prednisone, destroying his hips, resulting in Steve's use of crutches and a wheelchair to be mobile. Steve dealt with many different side effects from being on long-term, high-dose steroids, such as excessive weight gain, which kids at school bullied him about daily. He also grew up in a chaotic household with his parents constantly arguing until their divorce. He started his abuse of drugs by smoking pot in his late teens. He remembers smoking pot and telling his friends he didn't want to not feel stoned. Steve had a hard time emotionally and used marijuana to self-medicate. By the age of 22, he was homeless and smoking crack daily in his car. "My life spiraled so fast from using Oxycontin and Roxie's - the next thing I know I'm smoking crack." Listen in and find out Steve's big wins from his 12-year sobriety, what steps to take to bring yourself out of the addict's mindset, and why Steve chose to work with addicts in a recovery center. Have you ever done a science experiment? "Sure," is the most likely response, from anyone, to that question. But if we were to define "experiment" as Steve Jones, "The Space Teacher" does, the answer would be "no". Steve, who teaches STEAM at Hopewell Middle School in Milton, Georgia, is a lifelong space-science enthusiast. He is both a NASA Solar System Ambassador and freelance Principal Investigator for experiential STEM learning organization Magnitude.io. What that translates to, in his science-enrichment classes, is a lot of discovery. As students research, no one is sure what they'll find. Even Steve can't tell them what the final result will be. Because, as he says, in real science, "We don't know what's going to happen at the end. And that's the exciting thing." In February, Steve and his class saw an experiment culminate in a space launch. Through Magnitude.io, their class was among the ones researching new crops that might grow well in microgravity. Magnitude.io sent the selected crop to the International Space Station, in its ExoLab-8 experiment. And today, that crop is the first-ever red clover to be cultivated aboard the ISS. But what's even more exciting? Steve's students can monitor its progress in real time, as they grow their own red-clover crop in the classroom, under conditions that simulate the ISS environment. On this edition of Over Coffee®, we cover: How the space program first sparked Steve's imagination; Why Steve (who originally didn't care much for math!) came to incorporate it into his passion for science; The best creative challenge that faced Steve, in interesting non-science-oriented students in science; How Steve's unusual perspective on failure in his classes encourages students in engineering; One of Steve's favorite STEAM lessons from the NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador program; A new experiment which the students are doing in cooperation with NASA and Miami's Fairchild Botanical Garden; How Steve gave the students ownership of their own creativity on this particular project; What first started Steve off as a STEAM teacher, when beginning his career in education; The work of Magnitude.io and how Steve first became involved in the program; How Steve's seventh-grade class began research with Magnitude.io's ExoLab 6 experiment; How to get involved in the Magnitude.io program, if you are an educator; One "failure" that led to better research in Steve's science class; Some additional educational resources, including Zooniverse, which relates science to various arts and humanities topics among its citizen science exploration.

Interviews With The Hunting Masters - Big game Hunting podcast
Title: Arizona Elk Hunting with Steve ChappelL, part 2 Show Notes: In this second part of our conversation about elk hunting in Arizona, Steve Chappell from Elk Camp and I talk about times when elk calling might backfire on you, and how to think carefully through a situation before you react. Steve’s approach to elk hunting is thoughtful, refreshing, and smart, and I always learn something from him. If there’s a bull nearby, between you and the bull that you’re tracking, it’s hard to pass that closest one up. But Steve warns that spooking that closest bull may completely backfire on you. For sure, you definitely don’t want to let them know that a human is calling them because it’ll give away too much. You’ve been working a herd all morning long in an open Ponderosa forest, but you’re pretty sure that if you get closer you’re going to get picked off. Steve suggests waiting a little until the herd moves into thicker country. By letting them get out of view and then moving around them, you put yourself into a better situation . Sometimes the vegetation just works against you, and you need to adjust your strategy. Good calls are always going to be effective. Ten, twenty years down the road, you’ll still be able to use these same calls. But interestingly, every guy or gal is not going to produce the same sound on the elk call. However, if you are casual about calling elk, you can ruin it for others. We talk about why you should be cautious about casually calling elk while you’re out driving in the country. Please like us, share us, or leave us a review. I’m sure you’re looking forward to September like we are. Let’s get out there and get into the wild. What’s Inside: What kind of unit selection Steve prefers. What big bulls sound like to Steve. Why Steve likes using an elk cow decoy and how it helps him out. Steve recommends his favorite elk decoy. Some specific advice for Arizona elk hunting. My guest for this week's episode is a kindred spirit, and I'm stoked to call him a friend. You may know Steve Wright as the former NFL player for the Dallas Cowboys circa 1981. But, did you know he's also an intensely passionate innovator and entrepreneur? Steve's entrepreneurial streak first appeared when he noticed that so many of his teammates were taking hard knocks and sustaining avoidable injuries. Early on, he became a proactive advocate for better safety equipment out on the field, which he still campaigns for today. Fast forward to 1994, and Steve and his business partner Mike Davis have just founded the world's first sidelines mist cooling system called Cloudburst Misting Systems. It was so effective that in 1996, they won the Atlanta Summer Olympics cooling contract, which catapulted this innovative technology into the public eye. Since then, he has kept on innovating, creating and being an awesome human being. In this mind-bending episode, we get a deeper view of the humble origins of Steve's career. You'll hear how most of his success stems from taking on a "Forrest Gump" mindset, and why Steve ended up as a survivor on reality TV. You'll also hear how living a minimalist existence has created a life that is certainly worth living. Other snippets from our conversation: How Steve's NFL career took off Steve talks sports injuries and keeping safe on the field Why Steve went from having Margaritas at a Mexican restaurant to creating a globally acclaimed cooling system. Innovation doesn’t just happen out of thin air. It requires a conscious effort, and team-wide collaboration. At the same time, innovation will be critical for NASA if the organization hopes to remain competitive and successful in the coming years. Enter Steve Rader. Steve has spent the last 31 years at NASA, working in a variety of roles including flight control under the legendary Gene Kranz, software development, and communications architecture. A few years ago, Steve was named Deputy Director for the Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation. As Deputy Director, Steve is spearheading the use of open innovation, as well as diversity thinking. In doing so, Steve is helping the organization find more effective ways of approaching and solving problems. In this fascinating discussion, Steve and Brian discuss design, divergent thinking, and open innovation plus: Why Steve decided to shift away from hands-on engineering and management to the emerging field of open innovation, and why NASA needs this as well as diversity in order to remain competitive. The challenge of convincing leadership that diversity of thought matters, and why the idea of innovation often receives pushback. How NASA is starting to make room for diversity of thought, and leveraging open innovation to solve challenges and bring new ideas forward. Examples of how experts from unrelated fields help discover breakthroughs to complex and greasy problems, such as potato chips! How the rate of technological change is different today, why innovation is more important than ever, and how crowdsourcing can help streamline problem solving. Steve’s thoughts on the type of leader that’s needed to drive diversity at scale, and why that person should be a generalistPrioritizing outcomes over outputs, defining problems, and determining what success looks like early on in a project. Because management always likes to bring up that we’re innovative or we need innovation. And it just sounds so hand-wavy, like you say. And in a lot of organizations, it gets lots of lip service, but almost no funding, almost no support. In most organizations, including NASA, you’re trying to get something out the door that pays the bills. Ours isn’t to pay the bills, but it’s to make Congress happy. Leadership in dentistry is severely lacking in this day and age. I’m not talking about governing bodies—but dentists who are true leaders in their field and practice. Steve Dove, DDS, and Bryan Crawford join me to have a raw and real discussion about cultivating leadership, our heart for dentistry, and our shared vision of growing leaders in the industry. Disclaimer: we recorded this at the Voices of Dentistry Conference. Outline of This Episode [0:21] Steve Dove, DDS and Bryan Crawford join the Toothcop! [4:42] Why an ounce of prevention is worth it [10:37] Budget for compliance and prevention [13:45] Steve points out that we live in a numb society [16:10] Dentists need to be passionate about people [18:18] Why Steve and Bryan are launching a leadership podcast [20:15] Cultivate a heart for people—empower and equip them [21:18] Where to follow the ‘Dental Leadership Academy’ podcast Where does leadership in dentistry begin? In our discussion, Steve and I agreed that a leader must acknowledge their shortcomings and know where their vulnerabilities are. The next step is actively improving on your weaknesses—or delegating them to someone. Steve struggles with organization tasks but his wife (also a dentist) excels at them. So she tends to take on organizational tasks while he focuses elsewhere. The key is knowing when to leverage your strengths. Steve points out that you don’t always want to focus on bringing your weaknesses up to average. Instead, focus on your strengths—and the strengths of those around you—and improve those. You can make your strengths incredible. People notice when you’re different—not when you’re average. An ounce of prevention Steve shares some kind words in this episode about the value that he sees in what I do as a compliance expert. I’m working to step in as an advocate to make sure dentists are compliant. The goal is to empower them to do better and be better. While you can’t always see an immediate ROI, I do help prevent problems from happening. Dentists aren’t always aware of things going on in their practices that could ruin them, but a focus on compliance and prevention can change that. Steve points out that dentists don’t often get thanked for the preventative services that they do. People turn down or ‘poo-poo’ getting a sealant put on their teeth. What they don’t realize is that it can prevent cavities down the road. It can prevent needing a root canal in 5 years. An ounce of prevention will save them from using hours of PTO over multiple appointments. If dentists are preaching to their patients that they must take preventative measures to protect their teeth, why aren’t more dentists taking preventative measures to protect their practice? To protect their livelihood? Or become better leaders? Dentists need to know the repercussions of the things they don’t do. Learn to be passionate about people Why do I care so much about dentists? Why am I invested in helping their practices thrive? Because most dentists have giant hearts. They are full of compassion. They do amazing things for people every single day. After all, a beautiful smile is worth more than words can describe. When you notice what’s different about a confident person, more often than not it’s rooted in caring about other people above themselves. Steve points out that we live in a society that has become numb to what’s going on around them. We snap at the person who hands us our Starbucks coffee. We treat others like crap simply because we can. We need to learn to take a step back and realize they are people. We need to see them for who they are and treat them with respect. We need to reignite a passion for caring for people—and our patients. Why Steve and Bryan launched their podcast A dentist can truly make an impact on someone’s life. You have to grow and learn to be a good person—expound on that strength and passion that you already have. At the time of this recording, Steve and Bryan were about to launch their podcast—the ‘Dental Leadership Academy’. They are passionate about helping dentists grow into leaders. They hope that their podcast can help cultivate a desire for growth in fellow dentists. It all starts by reaching just one person who can reach others. Steve, Bryan, and I all have a heart for dentistry. We want to empower and equip others to be better dentists and leaders. According to Steve, “A good leader is measured by how many leaders he or she creates”. Building your business brand and positioning your authority takes a significant amount of time, energy (and money!) In a crowded market, there’s a significant difference between being an expert, being an influencer and being an ICON. An influencer is highly visible but also is one of many “influential” business leaders in a market. This type requires a lot of marketing effort to stand out and be seen – aka its highly competitive. But an ICON tends to rise above the noise and become the hub of the whell. ICONs set trends for the industry and inspires the crowd to get on board. My friend Steve Olsher is a visionary who has a knack for taking big risks that propels his brand to ICON level. He joins me to share how he continues to reinvent himself and catapult his brand to the peak of the industry. One of the most outspoken advocates for cannabinoid treatment is Kyle Turley, a nine-season offensive lineman who played with the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams, and Kansas City Chiefs. In this episode, he joins Steve and Laura to discuss the harsh reality of neurological disorders players are facing after a career of contact sports, including ALS, early onset Alzheimer’s, and CTE. He explains how cannabis reacts with the endocannabinoid system to mitigate symptoms and promote brain health. You’ll learn whether cannabis or CBD is a good option for you, how to protect your children from injury, and Kyle’s evidence-based approach to healing his body without pills. “These painkillers, they don’t kill nothin’. They just get you addicted and then they kill you.” -Kyle Turley Subscribe to the podcast on: Apple Podcast Stitcher Overcast PodBean TuneIn Radio Plug in, Get connected, and Win prizes Turn on Steve's post notification on Instagram, comment and tag 3 of your friends who are not yet following @weatherford5 and have a chance to win prizes!
