This week on “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Ira sits down with Steve Connolly, the powerhouse behind “Spirit of the King,” the ultimate Elvis tribute show at Notoriety Live every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 7 p.m. In this engaging conversation, Steve shares his eclectic journey—from playing bass guitar in high school and attending art school to restoring 700 statues and 123 churches. Initially set on becoming a curator, his path took an unexpected turn when a professor encouraged him to embrace both art and music. Steve talks about sneaking into bars with a fake I.D. at just 15 to play music, learning guitar, taking voice lessons, and how an open mic night changed his life forever—setting him on the road to embodying Elvis. He recalls the thrill of stepping in front of an audience, shedding inhibitions, and truly thriving in the spotlight. He recounts how “Legends in Concert” producer John Stuart and Will Collins helped bring him to Vegas, cementing his place as a dedicated student of Elvis. And how a critical letter pushed him to dive deeper into researching the King of Rock ‘n' Roll, refining his performance to a new level of authenticity. The key moment for Steve: before a particularly challenging performance (in front of a goth crowd), he asked for the spirit of Elvis to enter him—a ritual that has since become a pre-show prayer. Beyond the stage, Steve talks about his deeply personal commitment to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and how his family tragedy formed that commitment. Tune in for an episode filled with passion, music, and the magic of Vegas entertainment! (Also Watch Full Podcast Video)

In the aftermath of the Irish War of Independence in 1921, Michael Collins is sent to London to meet Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and other British officials to negotiate a treaty.  After weeks of travelling back and forth across the Irish Sea, Collins and his fellow Sinn Féin negotiators return with a deal. Ireland would become a Free State, but it would remain in the British Empire, and the Irish must swear an oath of allegiance to the King. Eamonn De Valera, the president of the republic, refuses to accept. De Valera and Collins, who were on the same side, are suddenly enemies. A rift tears through the republicans, splitting them into pro-Treaty and anti-Treaty forces. Families are divided, and soldiers who once fought together are on opposite sides. As the Irish tricolour replaces the Union Jack above Dublin castle, war breaks out between the two factions. Will Collins and De Valera survive their third war on home soil? Listen as William and Anita are joined once again by Diarmaid Ferriter, author of A Nation Not A Rabble, to discuss how the Anglo-Irish Treaty descended into civil war.  _____________ Empire UK Live Tour: The podcast is going on a UK tour! Send us a textWhat truly defines "cloud native"? Join Tim, Alex, Chris, and special guest Will Collins as they challenge conventional wisdom and dissect the evolving concept of cloud-native infrastructure. This episode kicks off by exploring the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's (CNCF) definition, examining whether it serves as a prescriptive guide or merely a loose framework. We touch on the array of technologies and practices it encompasses—such as containers, service meshes, microservices, and serverless architectures—and discuss the hallmark characteristics like loose coupling that are essential in cloud-native systems. Gain insights into how these principles are being applied beyond cloud networking.Dive into the complexities of what it means to be "cloud native" by exploring the nuances of using cloud provider constructs versus third-party tools. We debate the pros and cons of these approaches, examining the trade-offs between optimal performance, simplicity, and the need for compliance and scalability. The conversation also highlights the flexibility and ambiguity in the CNCF definition, which has led to varied interpretations and marketing claims, making it clear that while cloud-native solutions offer operational simplicity, enterprises often juggle these with third-party integrations to meet their diverse and complex needs.Lastly, we tackle the pressing issue of misleading marketing tactics in the tech industry. From SASE to SD-WAN, we expose how vendors often inflate minimal features to fit trendy labels, creating a confusing environment for decision-makers. We discuss the critical role of trust in long sales cycles and ponder whether stricter standards or certifications, akin to those from IEEE, could help mitigate these issues. The episode wraps up with a look at the challenges of integrating legacy systems with cloud-native services and the ambiguity surrounding buzzwords, emphasizing the need for clearer definitions to benefit customers rather than just cloud providers. Some people have the outdoors in their blood. Will Collins is one of them. From the time he attended his first summer camp as a child, he felt drawn to the outdoors. In this episode, I talk with Will about his path from childhood summer camps in Wisconsin to multi-week expeditions in remote areas. In 2017, he paddled source-to-sea on the Mississippi River. I ask him how he planned for the trip, about the generosity of people he met along the way and the daily rhythms of a long-distance trip, and also about adjusting to life after the completion of a big expedition. The year after his Mississippi River trip, he paddled for 70 days on the Yukon River. He describes how that trip differed from paddling the Mississippi. Kevin Lehane and Will Collins from The Best Bits Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Kevin's choice See No Evil, Hear No Evil. See No Evil, Hear No Evil is a 1989 Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder comedy directed by Arthur (Love Story) Hiller. Pryor plays Wallace "Wally" Karew, a blind man and Wilder plays David "Dave" Lyons, a deaf man who end up on the run from the police after “witnessing” a murder. Kevin Spacey also stars in one of his earlier roles. It received a mixed response on its release - mostly negative reviews but was a relative box office success and would be Pryor and Wilder's last financially successful film together. While See No Evil, Hear No Evil might offer a nostalgia watch for anyone who watched it as a child in the 1980s it will probably offer little - and quite possibly offend anyone watching with 2022 eyes. Scores for See No Evil, Hear No Evil were mixed from Flixwatcher and guests (there may have also been some tactical scoring going on!) but it still manages an overall rating of 3.55.   [supsystic-tables id=281] Episode #269 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #269 Crew of Will Collins (@WillumsFillum) and Kevin Lehane (@KevinLehane) from The Best Bits Podcast Find their Websites online at https://t.co/vCWc79ISYv And at https://www.kevinlehane.com/ And at https://www.casarotto.co.uk/clients/collins-will Please make sure you give them some love   More about See No Evil, Hear No Evil For more info on See No Evil, Hear No Evil, you can visit See No Evil, Hear No Evil IMDb page here or See No Evil, Hear No Evil Tomatoes page here. Will Collins and Kevin Lehane from The Best Bits Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Will's choice Labyrinth. Labyrinth is a 1986 musical fantasy directed by Jim (The Muppets) Henson and written by Terry (Monty Python) Jones. It stars David Bowie (who also wrote the songs) as Jareth the Goblin King and Jennifer Connelly, in her breakout role, as Sarah. After wishing that the goblins come and take away her baby brother Toby, Sarah has to tackle the labyrinth in 13 hours to rescue him or he will turn into a goblin. Along the way she encounters its unusual inhabitants - friends Hoggle, Ludo, Sir Didymus and foes The Firey's and the Bog of Eternal Stench. Hard to believe but Labyrinth was a box office flop and opened to mixed reviews, over the years, due it part to Bowie's legacy, it has firmly become a cult classic and frequently sells out cinema screenings. Labyrinth scores very highly across all Flixwatcher categories, only dropping a few points on small screen to score a very respectable 4.65 overall. Enjoyed this episode?
