This week on “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Ira sits down with Steve Connolly, the powerhouse behind “Spirit of the King,” the ultimate Elvis tribute show at Notoriety Live every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 7 p.m. In this engaging conversation, Steve shares his eclectic journey—from playing bass guitar in high school and attending art school to restoring 700 statues and 123 churches. Initially set on becoming a curator, his path took an unexpected turn when a professor encouraged him to embrace both art and music. Steve talks about sneaking into bars with a fake I.D. at just 15 to play music, learning guitar, taking voice lessons, and how an open mic night changed his life forever—setting him on the road to embodying Elvis. He recalls the thrill of stepping in front of an audience, shedding inhibitions, and truly thriving in the spotlight. He recounts how “Legends in Concert” producer John Stuart and Will Collins helped bring him to Vegas, cementing his place as a dedicated student of Elvis. And how a critical letter pushed him to dive deeper into researching the King of Rock ‘n' Roll, refining his performance to a new level of authenticity. The key moment for Steve: before a particularly challenging performance (in front of a goth crowd), he asked for the spirit of Elvis to enter him—a ritual that has since become a pre-show prayer. Beyond the stage, Steve talks about his deeply personal commitment to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and how his family tragedy formed that commitment. Tune in for an episode filled with passion, music, and the magic of Vegas entertainment! (Also Watch Full Podcast Video)
fWotD Episode 2820: Castell Coch Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 23 January 2025 is Castell Coch.Castell Coch (Welsh for 'red castle'; Welsh pronunciation: [ˈkas.tɛɬ koːχ]) is a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle built above the village of Tongwynlais, Cardiff, in Wales. The first castle on the site was built by the Normans after 1081 to protect the newly conquered town of Cardiff and control the route along the Taff Gorge. Abandoned shortly afterwards, the castle's earth motte was reused by Gilbert de Clare as the basis for a new stone fortification, which he built between 1267 and 1277 to control his freshly annexed Welsh lands. This castle may have been destroyed in the native Welsh rebellion of 1314. In 1760, the castle ruins were acquired by John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, as part of a marriage settlement that brought the family vast estates in South Wales.John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute, inherited the castle in 1848. One of Britain's wealthiest men, with interests in architecture and antiquarian studies, he employed the architect William Burges to rebuild the castle, "as a country residence for occasional occupation in the summer", using the medieval remains as a basis for the design. Burges rebuilt the outside of the castle between 1875 and 1879, before turning to the interior; he died in 1881 and the work was finished by Burges's remaining team in 1891. Bute reintroduced commercial viticulture into Britain, planting a vineyard just below the castle, and wine production continued until the First World War. He made little use of his new retreat, and in 1950 his grandson, the 5th Marquess of Bute, placed it into the care of the state. It is now controlled by the Welsh heritage agency Cadw.Castell Coch's external features and the High Victorian interiors led the historian David McLees to describe it as "one of the greatest Victorian triumphs of architectural composition". The exterior, based on 19th-century studies by the antiquarian George Clark, is relatively authentic in style, although its three stone towers were adapted by Burges to present a dramatic silhouette, closer in design to mainland European castles such as Chillon than native British fortifications. The interiors were elaborately decorated, with specially designed furniture and fittings; the designs include extensive use of symbolism drawing on classical and legendary themes. Joseph Mordaunt Crook wrote that the castle represented "the learned dream world of a great patron and his favourite architect, recreating from a heap of rubble a fairy-tale castle which seems almost to have materialised from the margins of a medieval manuscript".The surrounding Castell Coch beech woods contain rare plant species and unusual geological features and are protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Thursday, 23 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Castell Coch on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Ruth.

(First Aired In January, 2023) In this episode, we discuss the latest research on the transformative powers of sound, cymatics (how we can “see” sound), and at-home ways you can harness sound to bring your body and mind back into balance while awakening the body's inherent healing abilities. John Stuart Reid is on a mission to educate and inspire the world about the field of cymatics, the science of visible vibrations and sound. He asserts that sound is the foundation of almost all matter in the Universe and was a potent force in the creation of life in the primordial oceans, thereby carrying the power to heal life. His "CymaScope" invention has forever changed the world's perception of sound by giving us the ability to “see” sound and better understand this ubiquitous aspect of life. His cymatics research includes a study on differentiating between the sounds emitted by healthy cells and cancer cells, published in Water Journal. The US declaration of Independence described George III (1760-1820) as “marked by every act which may define a tyrant.” At home he was described as one of the most conscientious sovereigns who ever sat upon the English throne. Yet, he vehemently opposed catholic emancipation and the abolition of slavery. His characterisations are almost as broad as the events that unfolded during long reign. It saw an independent United States and a revolutionary France. It’s just me today approaching the issue of a boom in copyright lawsuits in the music industry. In light of these lawsuits, I ask: is copyright law serving artists the way it’s supposed to? To find out, we need to think about what the purpose of copyright law is and whether it is fulfilling or stifling this purpose. To do so, I look philosophical theories of property and apply them to musical copyright to help us reason through this problem. This is a project for my intellectual property law class that I took this semester at UBC under Professor Jon Festinger. Thank you to Professor Festinger for teaching the class! I hope my listeners and newsletter subscribers enjoy as well. We're excited to bring you Episode 14 of the Into the Wee Hours Podcast and this really interesting chat with Rob Saunders. In this episode we talk to Brisbane based, Rob Saunders - the man behind the heartfelt documentary - In the Footsteps of John Stuart. This short film is currently touring in Australia with the Wild film festival. It covers Rob's incredible, personal and historical journey to find his great uncle John's grave in an unrecorded location on a Tasmanian mountainside, following a tragic climbing and exploration expedition in 1956 which ended in John's death. We would certainly encourage you to check out the film - you can view a trailer of In the Footsteps of John Stuart here. We mainly focus on the development and making of the film, which involved a challenging expedition into the wilds of Tasmania for Rob and a select team of friends. We chat to Rob about many aspects of what a remote bushwalking and climbing adventure like this entails; not to mention the comparison between wilderness adventures for his Great Uncle in the 1950s, compared to now. We also chat about the logistics behind filming your own adventure, and touch briefly on Rob's recent trip to k'Gari (previously known as Fraser Island) and his aspirations to create another adventure based film. As is becoming the case with many of the awesome everyday adventurers we chat to, we barely scratched the surface of Rob's adventure knowledge and experience! We also have some big news! We've launched an Into the Wee Hours Podcast Patreon account. As much as we're doing this for fun, podcasting certainly doesn't come without its own financial costs - and we would be sooooo grateful if any of you listening would be inclined to throw a few dollars our way. There's absolutely no pressure, but if you're curious you can check us out on patreon - https://www.patreon.com/intotheweehourspodcast We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and seas where this podcast is being recorded. Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
You're able to start a conversation based on something much more than just insurance. If approached with enough dedication, it has the potential to resonate for an extended period of time. The biggest challenge beyond that dedication will be your proficiency to execute it effectively. Because it has to come from a pretty deep place of authenticity to actually work. That's what I talk to John Stuart, of Bill Quickel's Insurance Plus Agencies, about the revolution they're starting.
Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
Because if it doesn't, there's a good chance you just got lucky and haven't taken full advantage of its power. That luck generally leads to an endless stream of wasted opportunities that never received proper consideration. Of course, there are a couple of easy things you can do to prevent it from happening. However, they generally involve a few tough decisions most agencies don't want to make. That's what I talk to John Stuart, of Bill Quickel's Insurance Plus, about the ones he's facing.
Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
There's nothing worse than when you sell something short of what it can ultimately become. The part that's really not fun is it's pretty easy to do and really hard to recognize. However, if you're willing to commit to the process and make sure you know where you're going, the results could be surprising. The biggest challenge will be finding enough dedication to last long enough to find out. That's what I talk to John Stuart, of Bill Quickel's Insurance Plus, about where his attention should be going.
Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
Starts simply with your ability to find your absolute best clients a lot easier. If you try and talk to everyone, you'll end up talking to no one. Of course, that's the last thing you want to happen in your agency and why it's nessacary to get more specific. It doesn't matter if it's when the policy needs to be purchased, how old the person buying it is or even where it's all happening. That's what I talk to John Stuart, of Bill Quickel's Insurance Plus Agencies, about the specific direction they're heading.
Agency Nation Radio - Insurance Marketing, Sales and Technology
Starts by making sure the main goal is to drive new business by attracting people unfamiliar with your agency. If you can do that then you need to make sure you're providing just the right amount of necessary friction along the way. That's an unstoppable combination of highly qualified lead bliss that can dramatically change the agency's complexion. If you lose sight of those objectives along the way allowing your focus to drift beyond its scope you could be preparing its ineffectiveness instead. That's what I talk to John Stuart, of Bill Quickel's Insurance Plus Agency, about his recent trip rebuilding his website.
