Thanks for listening to the fifth in our collection of special Deepdale Festival Podcasts in 2024. Jason is your host for this series. In this episode Jason chats with Lorna and Karen from The Henry Girls, who are playing on Sunday, Ross Stewart, who is playing on Friday, and Elizabeth & Jameson, who perform on Friday. Lorna and Karen from The Henry Girls join me over the internet from Ireland. 10 years ago Chris drove to Birmingham one evening to see them play in the Kitchen Garden Café. When he bought his CD after the gig, they wrote on his purchase that they hoped to make it to Norfolk someday. So you can understand how excited he is that he's hosting them for Deepdale Festival 2024. Ross is a local, living in Norfolk for most of his life, but you wouldn't know from his accent or his support of Scottish sports teams. He chats about creating music and finding his style. Hannah and Griff, aka Elizabeth & Jameson, chat about how they came to music, Hannah's love of Welsh rugby and being surrounding by the music of the valleys. Thank you to all of them for allowing us to play a sample of their music. From The Henry Girls we play A Time To Grow, from Ros Stewart we play Sweet Morning, and from Elizabeth & Jameson we play Old Town. Enjoy this episode, and we hope you'll listen back to the rest of the Deepdale Festival series. 00:00 – Intro01:48 – The Henry Girls13:43 – A Time To Grow by The Henry Girls15:14 – Ross Stewart23:06 – Sweet Morning by Ross Stewart24:40 – Elizabeth & Jameson36:05 – Old Town by Elizabeth & Jameson Thank you so much for listening to the fifth episode of the Deepdale Festival Podcast 2024. This week sees the trio of Ray, Kevin and Tim discuss the latest collapse from the week as Saints went on the road to Leicester City which ended in a 5-0 thrashing and dooming us to a playoff berth. Then on Saturday, the final league game at home against lowly Stoke City. Another embarrassing display saw Saints lose 0-1 and clinch safety for Stoke. There's good news however. A possible return for Ross Stewart just in time for the final league game of the season at Leeds. Tim gives his thoughts on that upcoming fixture, along with our potential opponents in that Play-off semi.
My next guest is someone I've known for twenty-plus years. Dr. Ross Stewart is in the studio. He's the guy I interviewed when I was at Channel 4 about all things mental health. He was on the show a few months ago, but he texted me and said he needed to come back to tell people about the power of ketamine therapy.

With no Moscow Mush once again this week, it's left for Ray and Tim to go over another busy one as we hosted both Bristol City and Cardiff City with six points and two clean sheets to celebrate. All good news on the pitch, but bad news off it, as three players go down with injuries. The two discuss Dom Ballard, who suffered a season-ending knee injury along with Ross Stewart and Kamaldeen Sulemana's, which will see the pair sidelined until the New Year. There's also the little matter of Player and Goal of the Month to award for November. Tim gives us his preview of our next opponents as we prepare to head to Vicarage Road to face Watford. Tim gives us his best efforts and pays homage to Elton John. Not to be missed.
This week, the boys bask in yet another three points. This time at home to West Brom to extend the unbeaten run to 8 as we march into the international break. It wasn't pretty at times, but we got there in the end with help from the excellent Mason Holgate. Adam Armstrong continues his hot goal scoring streak as his ninth goal of the campaign gave us the victory in what was a debut for Ross Stewart. The trio discuss transfers in and out, Russell Martin's suspension and all the other news stories from the past week.
Southampton are starting to love late drama in the Championship! Ryan Fraser came off the bench to score his second stoppage-time winner of the season, with the Saints beating Millwall 1-0. In this episode, the boys discuss the unchanged team selection, Russell Martin's tactics, Ross Stewart's return from injury and the ever-improving Southampton side. This week, Harry Tizard (@H_Tizard) is joined by Ollie Boast (@ollie_boast) to talk everything Southampton! Remember, you can contact the podcast on Twitter (@Saints_Score) or TikTok (@thesaintsscore) to get involved with the show! The duo then look ahead to a huge clash against West Bromwich Albion, who are also enjoying an upturn in form.
With the international break in full flow, TSP returns with something a little different - a school night, bitesize episode! We discuss last season and a certain Play off semi-final and how good it is that them up the road are experiencing the potential misery that is the jackpot prize after promotion for all the promoted teams' last season! We discuss Sunderland's sad Premier League seasons and our nightmare opponents until we finally convince ourselves that we're glad we didn't get promoted.Pete starts off on another manager he doesn't like for no apparent reason before Ant takes us through a strange pre-season for the Black Cats. We cover off the easy to dislike Russell Martin (what with his good hair and all!) and add him to the list of managers we don't like for no reason. We question if Sunderland could really have kept Ross Stewart. The prediction league goes as badly as we have all come to expect with the highlight being Carlos trying to remember the bands, he knows who have come from Sunderland before Pete and Carl spots a conspiracy as Sunderland will get an extra night to recover as Sunderland will be most likely putting an end to Xisco's reign at Hillsborough on Friday night!!!As Justin's not here we decide to bring everyone up to date on the Fantasy league and it looks like Justin has done a runner!!!COYH!This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. In this podcast, the boys analyse the transfer dealings and everything that happened at the Stadium of Light. Strange team selection, early goals, baffling defending and Russell Martin's tactics are all on the agenda. The trio then discuss the outgoing Moussa Djenepo before previewing the colossal clash against Leicester City. Sunderland Echo writers James Copley, Phil Smith and Joe Nicholson discuss Stewart Donald's reduced shareholding, Dan Neil's new contract and the situation with Ross Stewart, plus what the future holds for loanees Amad Diallo and Edouard Michut.
Though it isn't mentioned on the podcast, we are aware of the shocking news regarding Chris Collier over the weekend. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends, and our thoughts go out especially to those who loved him most. Rest easy lad. - Our Gav and Phil got together earlier today to react to Sunderland's draw with Millwall on Saturday, give their thoughts on Speakman's recent appearance on the club podcast about the January transfer business, and look ahead to the Lads facing Fulham midweek in the FA Cup fourth round replay at the Stadium of Light! What's the crack? What did Gav and Phil make of the performance against Millwall? Do the younger lads learn more against physical and aggressive sides like Millwall than some others? Is our January business overall a show of faith in the process and the players themselves? Are we too light up top to compete or do the lads see us still in with a shot of the top six this season? Is it really possible to replace Ross Stewart at all? How are we feeling about our FA Cup replay against Fulham on Wednesday? Should Mowbray be looking to get lads like Abdoullah Ba and Pierre Ekwah starting, if only to get some minutes in their legs? Microcosm/macrocosm are the words of the day…All this and more! Ha'way the Lads! #SAFC #EFL #EFLChampionship #EmiratesFACup Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Sunderland commentator Nick Barnes, presenter Simon Pryde and ex player Gary Bennett discuss Ross Stewart's injury, transfer deadline and also hear from Anthony Patterson.
Our Gav sat down with our old friend Tom White - just before he started his Soccer Sunday presenting duties yesterday - to react to Sunderland's draw against Fulham in the FA Cup and look over SAFC's transfer business this window ahead of deadline day! What's the crack? So what did the lads make of Saturday's performance - and the praise heaped upon the club, its manager and players following the game? The Ross Stewart situation - Looks like he's out for the season but no confirmation as yet, so should we be looking to immediately replace him? Getting Riggy with it - That was something else wasn't it? What a player he looks to be…What does Tom make of the work the Sunlun recruitment team have done so far? What areas does he think need strengthening more than others? What do we make of the signings of Gelhardt, Lihadji, and the possibility of Joe Anderson from Everton? Are we looking at a busy transfer deadline day? Just how impressive and talented is this squad of players? Could Simms be on his way back to the Stadium of Light? All this and much more! A few repairs needed, so apologies for any odd noises you may hear (that aren't Gav comparing our youngsters to various Champions League winners) and enjoy! How likely are we to see Ellis Simms return to the club? Will it be on loan or permanent? There were a ton of positives to take from Craven Cottage but one HUGE negative as we drew 1-1 with Fulham. It will be a replay for the Lads in a couple weeks as we put in a superb display against Marco Silva's side, however, the seemingly season ending injury to Ross Stewart leaves a huge hole in the squad. Ross and Dave join to discuss the game, that injury and what needs to be done in the transfer market over the next few days of the window. Enjoyed the episode? Paul Addison, Neil Maddison & Dana Malt discuss Middlesbrough's 2-0 defeat to Sunderland in the Championship at the Stadium of Light. Ross Stewart and Amad Diallo were on target as The Black Cats beat 10-man Boro in the Wear-Tees derby. Stewart tapped in on the rebound after Zack Steffen had saved his penalty early in the second half. Boro, depleted by Dael Fry's dismissal for conceding the spot-kick, couldn't find a response. Diallo sealed the victory nine minutes from time. Sunderland's victory lifts them to ninth place in the table, just a point behind Boro, who drop down to sixth. Includes interviews with Boro head coach Michael Carrick and Black Cats manager Tony Mowbray. Made by the team at BBC Radio Tees.
Regular listeners will be aware that I have a lot of time for Sunderland, the city in north east England that I attended university in, and for a time, made my home. I used to be in a band up there. I put on shows. Did a radio show. A fanzine. And I thought I had a good handle on what was going on up there. But then my old friends in the city started telling me about this kid called Tom A. Smith, a musician. Only 18 and he's played Glastonbury already, supported Sam Fender, and impressed the likes of Tim Burgess and Billy Bragg. I checked him out. I think he's smashing. And so on this episode - recorded just before Christmas 2022 - I check in with the most exciting thing going on in the old country. No, not Ross Stewart, Tom! Our Gav was joined by our Chris Wynn last night after Sunderland's draw with Blackpool on New Years Day 2023; chatting about our performance, the Ross Stewart saga, the departure of Ellis Simms - the wonders of Abdoullah Ba, Amad Diallo and Trai Hume - and the task facing Kristjaan Speakman, Stuart Harvey and Tony Mowbray as the January transfer window opens! What's the crack?Welcome to 2023 lads and lasses; what did our Gav and Chris make of Sunderland's draw away to Blackpool, and taking seven point out of a possible nine this festive period? After a sluggish first half performance - and the introduction of a certain Abdoullah Ba in the second half - the Lads really started to turn it on. How close were we to taking maximum points from the game? How fuming is Chris about their goal?Ross Stewart; another goal from the big yin to get us the draw - after a quite brilliant bit of play from Trai Hume - which takes him to 9 goals in just 11 appearances this season... what are the lad's thoughts on the ongoing contract saga as we enter the January transfer window? Just how good does Trai Hume look lately; should Gooch be worried about getting back into the side? He looked good, he looked fine, he looked good he looked fine and he was Sunlun's number nine: What did the lads make of the sudden recall of Ellis Simms to Frank Lampard's struggling Everton side? Does it say more about our situation or theirs?A little bit of a break coming up after the quite frantic last week; are Gav and Chris confident the club has everything under control heading into the second half of the season? Injury lists and illness; the squad has taken quite a battering of late, how much faith do the lads have in the recruitment team to help alleviate some of these struggles? All your three word reviews, Chris sets Ross Stewart a challenge to get those Premier League wages by getting us to the Premier League, Gav breaks up a vicious fight and much more! Latest on Sunderland in the transfer market and Ross Stewart's contract situation plus reaction to Ellis Simms' shock Everton return

Simon Pryde and Nick Barnes are joined by Stephen Elliott and Martin Smith as they discuss Dan Ballard, Ross Stewart and the unexpected consequence of Jean Seri playing for Hull City.
Not too many sleeps until Blackburn at home/Christmas so our Gavin Henderson and Craig Chapman got together to chat all things Sunderland AFC - from our 1-1 draw away at Hull on Saturday to the Ross Stewart contract situation, as well as looking at where we are and where we might want to go in the Championship this season! What's the crack? It's really nice to have the Loch Ness Drogba back in time for Christmas isn't it? Only took a few minutes for him to remind us what we've been missing without him. How did the lads rate the performances against Hull on Saturday? Could Mowbray do with being a little more ruthless with his team selections and a touch more timely with his subs? Two in, two out - The lads discuss the impact of losing a Danny Batth for a Dan Ballard and the loss of Embleton to what seems to be a very bad injury that could sideline him for some time; Where do we stand as a club heading into the few fixtures before the January window opens - do we expect/want a couple smart signings from Speakman to plug a few gaps, and what areas do we think need strengthening? Craig makes a heartfelt Christmas wish/plea to Ross Stewart to sign a contract extension and stay another day/couple of years…Updates on the SCSK and Roker Report Christmas Fundraiser - as the club very kindly has pledged £1 from every ticket sold for our boxing day fixture against Blackburn! All this and so much more!Everyone at RR - aye even Gav though you wouldn't think it to hear him say it - would like to wish a very Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! Simon Pryde, Nick Barnes and Marco Gabbiadini hear from Tony Mowbray about the return of Ross Stewart and Dan Ballard, as well as Alex Pritchard's views on the World Cup and the vexing question of whether the 'Gaffer's Jaffa Cake' is a cake or a biscuit.
Thought we'd have a bit of a look at how we got to this point in the season - so our Chris Wynn, Martin Wanless and Phil West jumped on at some insane hour over the weekend to give their thoughts on that Amad assist, that Amad goal, the return of Simms to full active duties, some more talk about Ross Stewart's contract and looking beyond the World Cup break. What's the crack? As the lads decided to record this immediately after the game to take full advantage of all that adrenaline - How does everyone feel after that result - especially the chest clutching finish that nearly killed half the fanbase? AMAD LAD STRIKES AGAIN - Some talent isn't he - with an assist for Ellis Simms first goal since returning from injury, to his magnificent strike in the second half… well it was his pitch on the night.PATTO - 22 years old and getting better all the time.A couple lads returned from injury and we're all very pleased to see it; A nice long break; with the World Cup coming up and the Lads off for a nice trip to Dubai to warm up a little, how are we feeling knowing we'll be returning to league action with the likes of Ross Stewart back in the starting eleven? A disappointing Monday night for the Lads meant it was Boro who won the derby-not-derby on Teesside. However, losing was far from our biggest concern of the night, with Ross Stewart and Dennis Cirkin looking like they've picked up significant injuries which could cause havoc across our squad. Brad Sharp and the returning Dave Lawrence join me to pick apart our loss on Teesside and all the talking points from Monday's game. Enjoyed the episode? Gav was joined last night by our Chris Wynn and Phil West as they reacted to the end of the EFL League One 21/22 season, and what it all means for Sunderland as we face Sheffield Wednesday in the Play-Off Semi Finals! What's the crack? So here we are lads and lasses - Sunderland are going to face Sheffield Wednesday over two legs, to see who can get to Wembley to face either Milton Keynes or Wycombe Wanderers. How are the lads feeling about Alex Neil's more.. methodical.. approach to matches - particularly the match everyone watched on Saturday? Will this ‘by any means necessary' attitude serve us well in the coming matches? BROADY LAD - He's there again but it looks like he's taken a knock, and as of recording we have no idea as to whether he'll be fit or not this Friday so... what exactly do we do without him if this is the case? Ross Stewart took a knock on Saturday also, although that looked marginally less worrying than Broadhead's - does nothing for the nerves does it? Which players stand out as being the most important/influential as we look to the Play-off Semis - there's a certain Aiden McGeady on the horizon but would Alex Neil want to be using him this late on? Is there time for one last step over? Looking at the midfield - do the lads see the concern over Dan Neil not being selected? Does Embleton fit back there, and how well is Corry Evans performing the task he's been given by the gaffer? The lads try to work out if they're confident or not, and... did you know our Chris was on Sky the other day? We had no idea. All this and more! Once more unto the breach and all the rest! Hawaaaaay the lads!#SAFC #EFL #EFLPlayoffs #LeagueOne #TilTheEnd See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
