I think we all can agree that 2020 has been one hell of a ride so far. Almost every film festival had to shut down due to COVID this year but P.I.F.F. had a contingency plan. A few years back they acquired a Roku channel that allows you on your couch to enjoy the festival in your home if you cannot make it in person. This was a smart move however, it still had it pitfalls. A lot of filmmakers did not want to only stream their work they wanted to fill seats. Ben and I touch on this never before ventured challenge and how they are adapting and what the plan is moving forward.  This was recorded prior to the protests..  Also sorry for the low audio on Ben. This was supposed to be my 1st video episode but the camera crapped out at 12mins in so my apologies. I need an assistant..

I haven't had a podcast go for this long in a while, maybe because I've been waiting a year to have Dan on as a guest as he is a very busy man. I met Dan 4 years ago during one of his film screenings here in Philadelphia. We clicked immediately because he too is from the beautiful state of Maine. Dan is an award-winning director, producer and editor of documentary film, digital video, and music projects. He stared Dan Collins Media 10 years ago in 2010 and has been very busy since. In 2016 he released one of his best films "From War To Wisdom" . This powerful film looks into the lives of veterans both on and off the battlefield. It takes the viewer on a beautiful and terrible journey, from war to wisdom. This is not an anti-war or pro-war film, it distills the experiences of combat veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars - from the violence of engagement to the challenges faced when coming home - into a mosaic of horror and hope, of tragedy and triumph. You'll ride with them into combat, you'll witness their return to a civilian world that no longer makes sense, and you'll see how they not only survive a war but try to change the world for the better.

I had been planning this podcast for a few months until Britt and I were able to finally meet up. I wanted to change up locations and decided on an outdoor space. We found ourselves a top of the new trestle garden walk just off 11th and Callowhill. It was a beautiful evening. The sky was sapphire and the air was cool and caressing. After finding our way around a large yoga group we found a great spot that had Liberty 1 and 2 in the background.  I discovered Britt through his Instagram page and the beautiful pictures featured on the @phillyunkown page . He started this page as a way of self therapy but soon opened the page for others to "takeover" after a lot of interest. Britt is a community leader and educator. Philadelphia like a lot of cities has a severe opiate addiction and overdose rate. Britt wants to end this epidemic.  “My name is Britt. I am from Philadelphia, PA. I moved around a lot with my job. However, one consistent thing is I have always had my fair share of struggles with addiction and mental health since as long as I can remember. Funny how the two, addiction and mental health, always seem to go hand in hand. One disease fueled by another and vice versa. I never experimented with drugs until after high school. And even after that I always just considered myself a recreational drug user and thought I knew my limits. Little did I realize that was far from the truth. I began to share my story of trauma and addictive behaviors and pent up emotions with people. Not just people in my IOP or my life but to an audience on social media that has rallied behind me from all across the world and allow me to be vulnerable to them. They allow me to share my life and my feelings and my journey with them and this is my recovery. I started a non-profit almost three years ago that has a mission to bring advocacy, awareness and cohesion in the communities towards societal issues such as homelessness and to the fatal epidemic of the opioid crisis. I have found my mission. I have taken peace in healing through bringing compassion and harm reduction to those who need it most. I work the front lines to ensure that those who are lost like I was, have a voice and know that they are not alone.

The story follows Michael, struggling to overcome feelings of regret and deep remorse over a past traumatic event. With all hope lost, Michael (Gaz Hayden) encounters a woman who inevitably leads him down the path to find comfort in religion.   I sat down to chat with Gaz at the festival for a scheduled half hour which ended up being twice as long. One particular fight night both brothers were on the card (nothing new) They have a bit of a rivalry going on, but one out of love. Who can defeat their opponent the quickest? Louis was up...BOOM! 42 seconds in the first round. Orion was next... "I'll beat that" and he did. 1st round knock out 39 seconds. That just happened to be the night Urijah Faber was in the audience watching the fights. He approached both Orion and Louis and offered for them to come down to Sacramento and fight professionally for Team Alpha Male  Just one more step closer to the UFC.  Since his move Orion has had 3 Pro fights and has won every time. He recently took home a belt from Warrior Games, Wisconsin. He is very disciplined and determined to be the best he can be. Orion is a force to be reckoned with. Have Podcast will travel. On location at Drexel University School of Medicine. I met with Dr. Ramesh and we set up in a conference room next to his laboratory. One of his research interests is Cell death and plasticity after traumatic injury to the mature and immature brain. The spectrum of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) ranges from mild concussions that are treated in the emergency room, to severe head injuries that require acute critical and neurosurgical care. Improved critical and advanced radiological and neurosurgical techniques have led to decreases in mortality rates over the past two decades. However, survivors of brain injuries suffer long-term behavioral problems such as learning deficits, memory dysfunction, psychological and emotional disturbances – functional aspects that affect the quality of life and currently have no therapies.  The damage observed after TBI comprises both primary disruption of neural tissue related to the impact, and secondary mechanisms that develop over the weeks to months after the traumatic event. The spectrum of pathologies observed after TBI include focal contusions in the grey matter and diffuse injuries to axons in the white matter. It has been suggested that these pathologies are a consequence of the biomechanics of the impact, i.e., focal injuries occur due to contact forces to the head, while diffuse injuries are a result of non-contact, rotational forces to the brain. Dr. Ramesh and his team have been working on concussions for 15+ years. He spoke about a mechanism that can be worn by an athlete to calculate the impact, send a message wirelessly and can be treated immediately before they arrive at the hospital. This will be the next step in the evolution of the proper treatment for any brain injuries.

Paul and I discuss what it means to be and how you can be an optimized human.   “Human Optimization” is a system of strategies designed to help you achieve success and happiness so that you can “either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing” (Benjamin Franklin). You want to be the best that you can be, and “Human Optimization” presents strategies that will help you achieve your goals. You will achieve your maximum potential, productivity, and performance, while also enhancing your experience of peace, or well-being. Unparalleled success, joy, happiness, and fulfillment will be your companions on your journey through life. The term “Human Optimization” might seem strange at first glance, because it is a new concept, but it’s meaning is almost self explanatory. We are all familiar with “S.E.O.”, or “Search Engine Optimization,” as the process of “optimizing” a web site to gain the highest possible ranking in search engines like Google, Bing, or Yahoo. Simply put, it is the process of making the site the best that it can be. Human Optimization is a system of strategies designed to help optimize individuals. Simply put, Human Optimization, which could otherwise be called people optimization, is the process of making people the best that they can be.

After the fight Urijah invited Orion and his brother to train with Team Alpha Male. Watching him and his brother fight so well he must have seen special talent and a true warrior mind set. Wow this ended up being an insane podcast. Mike has always been an awesome guest to have on. He is very knowledgeable in the world of cannabis and Act-16. Mike as you know has made a huge impact in Philadelphia's cannabis community. He has been speaking up for a plant that he uses as medicine for 6 years now. He was involved in the decrim bill that was passed just 2 years ago. Mike is now speaking up about doctors that are missrepresenting themselves on their websites claiming they are cannabis doctors and experts. The problem with this is that ACT16 has not started yet. Doctors as of July 26th 2017 are now able to register and take the 4 hour class to be able to prescribe medical cannabis to a patient. One Dr in particular , Dr. Matthew Roman was charging people in Philadelphia 200-300 dollars for an initial vist and 100 for follow us. He was giving a false promise of putting a patient in the front of the line to receive a card once the state issued them. Not only is this illegal it is highly unethical to make such claims and take people's money. At minute 49:40 Dr Roman was obviously watching the live facebook feed  and decided it was a good time to call in and interupt my podcast to talk to Mike. This made for a very interesting podcast and I think you will enjoy this episode. Thanks again to the Wrecking Crew! You guys are the best.

*****ATTENTION******* Please download the paper here to follow along with us.   I know I know, I'm really asking a lot of you guys. You can just listen in. I do steer it to different topics to help your experience, however I do encourage you to follow along with us.  Enter with an open mind.  The Society for Planetary SETI Research (SPSR) has as its aim the study of features on planetary surfaces, to evaluate possible signs of ET activity in the form of landscape modifications or other alterations not easily attributable to natural geological formation. This paper displays one such study, based in part on a previous one which showed that a group of twelve mound-like formations in the Cydonia area of Mars, of relatively small and nearly uniform size, have relative positions that repeatedly display symmetries well beyond chance. It focuses primarily on five of those mounds, showing that they display some unusual and precise geometrical features highlighted by close connections to sequences of prime numbers. This paper also reviews the related statistical anomaly found in the relative placement of these mounds and discusses some recent critiques of that work. Previous work showed that the frequency of appearance of related right and isosceles triangles in the mound distribution cluster sharply in density about a certain value of the angle defining those related triangles. In order to assess the role of the special angle itself as a possible source in the sharp clustering in the density of appearances of these triangles, this paper reports a new statistical study that confirms the extent to which the favored and redundant geometry implied by that angle has a self-duplication property. It involves an examination of each of 1 million randomly generated sets of 12 mounds with the same analysis techniques used for the actual Cydonia mounds. It is found that this property can account for only a small portion of the statistical anomaly found in the earlier work. Proposed further work includes an examination of a clear distinction between the 5 and 12 mound configurations and its possible relation to mound shapes using recent MGS high resolution images. Finally a discussion is given of a repeated connection between the triangles that appear in the ideal geometry of the 5 mound configuration and the basic quantum mechanics of spin angular momentum.

Friday morning Corey stopped by to educate me on how he has been battling Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma with cannabis. Corey is also known as chauncey_thecannaseur on IG. If you have any questions for him please send him a DM he would be happy to answer your questions.  What Is Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma? Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer, and can spread to other areas of the body.  Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (also known as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, NHL, or sometimes just lymphoma) is a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the body’s immune system. There are two types of lymphoma. They are treated differently, so it’s important to know which one you have. The information here focuses on non-Hodgkin lymphoma in adults. How Cannabis fights cancer: Of all the recent research done on the use of medical marijuana, some of the strongest results have been obtained on cancer patient research. While there is rarely ever complete consensus among the medical community, there is widely held agreement that medical marijuana does work to stimulate the appetite as well as reduce the nausea and vomiting that often accompanies treatment for lymphoma. One way that medical marijuana helps lymphoma patients who are going through chemotherapy is through the anti-inflammatory properties found in marijuana. Along with other important chemical properties, Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major component found in medical marijuana. Numerous clinical studies have shown that CBD contains properties that relieve convulsion, inflammation and anxiety as well as prevents nausea. Studies have even shown that CBD may inhibit the growth of some cancer cells, making medical marijuana not only a beneficial drug to counteract the side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, but a potential first line defense against the cells that cause lymphoma as well.

C.R.Y.O. Philadelphia provides therapeutic recovery services for athletes and active adults, as well as health and wellness benefits to the general public. Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is a revolutionary method of cold therapy involving 3 minutes of exposure to subzero temperatures ranging from -200 F to -250͖ F. During the three minute treatment, the exposure to subzero temperatures causes the skin’s cold receptors to stimulate the nervous system. The body perceives this sudden and extreme cold to be a life-threatening situation and activates a chain of powerful survival mechanisms involving the body’s most crucial systems. Vasoconstriction occurs and blood is redirected from the peripheral tissue to preserve the vital organs and maintain core temperature. When one re-enters a room-temperature environment, the blood immediately rushes back to the skin, blood circulation is naturally stimulated, and oxygenated blood is delivered back to the damaged tissue. As a result, any blood with inflammatory properties gets treated and relief from pain and discomfort begins. This was absolutly amazing. I wasn't sore from my back to back workouts. Cryo also improved my mood. I can't wait to go back! .

Despite the recent legalization of medical cannabis in California and other states, the fear and stigma persist. Harborside Health Center is dedicated to healing the pain that stems from these destructive attitudes and feelings by providing a sensible alternative to the hysteria surrounding cannabis and by honoring you as a progressive and courageous force of change. We believe one way we may do that is to be conscious and respectful in all our interactions with our neighbors. Harborside Health Center believes each patient acts as an ambassador for the entire medical cannabis community. We want our fellow patients to feel cared for, to be recognized as important members of society, and to leave our facility inspired to be positive ambassadors for medical cannabis. Society is watching all of us to determine if medical cannabis is safe and sensible. If we dedicate ourselves to being such positive ambassadors for medical cannabis, our communities will begin to embrace us instead of being suspicious of us. The perception of medical cannabis will then be transformed, and the stigma associated with it will be eliminated. Harborside Health Center sees this as the key for achieving safe and legal access to medical cannabis for all suffering and sick Americans. We invite you to join us in building a kinder and more compassionate world, and thank you for your efforts.

A longtime activist and patient, Dani Geen is an expert in cannabis concentrates and the healthful aspects of ‘dabbing.’ As a member of the executive team at Harborside Health Center, Dani is privy to the latest products and methods of consumption on the market, and to the evolving science of cannabis medicines. Now ready to share what she’s learned, Dani hopes to remove the stigma of dabbing, and educate other patients and adult-use consumers on its many benefits compared to other methods of consumption. Because her parents were patients, Dani became familiar with cannabis as a medicine at an early age. In high school she began having severe pain issues and subsequently started studying the plant more seriously. In 2006 she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia while attending college for artist management and music tech studies. Lacking medical insurance and not wanting to rely on opiates, Dani turned to cannabis for relief, eventually discovering the powerful efficacy of extracts. In 2008, Dani began working at Harborside Health Center—the nation’s largest model cannabis dispensary, based in California—while finishing school. After a short time in Harborside’s Ombuds department welcoming and orienting patients, she was quickly recruited to the executive management team alongside executive director and co-founder, Steve DeAngelo. While traveling across the country with Steve, Dani was introduced to a titanium nail and Healthstone pipe. She discovered that the higher cannabinoid profiles of the concentrates used by this method gave her the edge she needed to combat her fibromyalgia and to quit smoking cigarettes. She’s now been pharmaceutical-free (and a non-smoker) for nearly six years. Dani is currently exploring the benefits of torch-less e-nails, and concentrates with and without terpenes, preferring live resins, ‘terp juice’ and solvent-less ‘rosin’ or hash oil to flowers. She’s also a knowledgeable and gentle guide for novice dabbers. “Start small and work your way up,” she says. “Make sure you stay hydrated and are in a comfortable area for your first time.” She can be reached at danig@harborsidehealthcenter.com.
