Coming in from the swamps of Savannah, GA. this week with James May of Black Tusk. We are talking about "The Way Forward" their newest release. While often mentioned in the same weed-infused breath as Baroness and Kylesa, Black Tusk are a different beast. These swamp monsters have never strayed far from their roots in metal, sludge and punk, though their last album found them fighting just to stay afloat after bassist Jonathan Athon's passing. The Way Forward is just that. This album charges straight-on behind their new lineup, which includes former collaborators Chris "Scary" Adams and bassist Derek Lynch. Please keep in mind that if you rate and review the show the algorithm seems to like that, and if you like the show, please share and recommend it to anyone else in your circle who likes metal. Much love and respect. MRJ. Joining me for this weeks show is Chris "Scary" Adams of the mighty Black Tusk, who have just put out an awesome and purely Black Tusk album. We obviously talk plenty about the album, The Way Forward, as well as being delayed by T Swizzle, getting opinions on what to change from unexpected places, which band member should be played by which famous person for a video (one of which gets stuck with Kid Rock), anxiety about just getting to a show and tons more both useful and funny stuff along the way. In episode 163 of Heavy Metal Philosophy, I speak with the mighty Black Tusk. I was curious where they think punk rock stands in today's music scene. During the conversation, we touched on having great parents and where the motivation to make heavy music comes from when life is good. We wound up making some fun jokes along the way too, because it should come as no surprise that Black Tusk are cool dudes as well as great musicians!Get Black Tusk's new album 'A Way Forward' this Friday April the 26th!Black Tusk Info;https://blacktuskband.com/https://blacktusk.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-forwardhttps://www.facebook.com/BlackTuskhttps://www.instagram.com/tcbt/https://twitter.com/BlackTuskHeavy Metal Philosophy Contact;https://heavymetalphilosophy.com/YouTube: https://youtube.com/@heavymetalphilosophyhttps://www.spreaker.com/show/heavy-metal-philosophyHeavyMetalPhilosophy@gmail.comhttps://mobile.twitter.com/heaviestdoyenhttps://www.facebook.com/HeaviestDoyenhttps://www.instagram.com/heavy_metal_philosophy/https://www.threads.net/@heavy_metal_philosophyhttps://bsky.app/profile/jonbarbas.bsky.social Metal Digest articles link;https://metal-digest.com/author/jon-barbas/#metal #punk #blacktusk

After the release of the now-classic Alive or Just Breathing, Western Massachusetts-based Killswitch Engage experienced a set back that could stifle many bands on the verge of success. With the sudden departure of original (and current) frontman Jesse Leach, the band was forced to find a suitable replacement. Through an extensive search, they found their vocalist in Blood Has Been Shed's Howard Jones who quickly joined the band on the road as well as the studio to craft their follow-up album. The rest, as they say, is history. Join Tamara and David for an interview with The Maxines, "a badass all chick rock band in Savannah, GA - grunge w/ a kiss of metal." They're led by AJ Grey on vocals, with Emma Smith on bass, and twins Coco and Maddie Oke on drums and guitar. You might remember them from our musical episode back around Thanksgiving - if not, go have a listen! The Maxines released their debut album "Skin Tight" - named after the first song they ever wrote - back on October 1. Their next show will be Feb 24 at El Rocko! Listen to The Maxines and follow them here: https://www.instagram.com/themaxinesband/ https://themaxinesband.bandcamp.com/album/skin-tight Topics in their chat include: Their great experience recording their recent and first album, Skin Tight, with Scary of Black Tusk; their new bassist Emma, who replaced Veronica Garcia-Melendez (a previous interviewee on the show!); the addition of an instrument called a "donkey jaw;" how the band formed through word-of-mouth of various female musicians around Savannah, and all of the shared songs they wanted to cover; AJ's physicality during their performances and her philosophy on preparing ahead of time for that; Madonna's lifelong influence; working through the stage fright of their first performance; the complicated bass solo in their song "Letter to a Pill" and how Emma faces it; the success of their first show - an open mic in late 2021 at the Wormhole; their collaborative process of songwriting; going on their recent first tour, lasting 2 weeks, with Savannah band Neckromance; how Coco and Maddie have taught themselves screenprinting to produce all of the band's merch; the excitement of getting CDs made (they still have some available!); their brand-new band manager!; the success of the album release party / music fest they threw in October; new experimental sounds they look forward to trying, such as megaphones; and how metal singers take care of their voices, both in general and especially on tour. Tune in and get all the details!
This week on Zen Perry Project we're joined by SCARY, guitarist and audio engineer for BLACK TUSK - a band famous for a style of sludge/stoner metal straight from the swamplands of Savannah, Georgia. Besides the inevitable questions about his nickname and about his lifelong relationship with the scene that extends far before his ax was introduced to the mix in 2018, Scary talks through some of his favorite gear and considers how he stays inspired with his work. BLACK TUSK is touring the U.S East Coast this fall, we can't wait for them to crush SAINT VITUS BAR on August 30th!! Top o' the mornin' to ya! This week we turn several shades of green as we celebrate the emerald isle and St. Patrick's Day… American style!!! We here in the good ol' US of A have completely bastardized this whole affair into a day of wearing ridiculous amounts of green, pretending to be of Irish descent, and getting extremely drunk while listening to U2, The Cranberries, and Thin Lizzy. Two cities on the Eastern Seaboard in particular get especially ridiculous on this day: Boston, MA, and Savannah, GA. Hop in our shamrock mobile and take the journey with us to experience local rock n' punk n' metal from these two fine cities. The Geekdom Gamescast is a monthly video game bonus episode in collaboration with God Hates Geeks hosted by Myke and GHG's own Travis Moody. While Myke was stuck in Washington DC helping out the Strategic Homeland Division take on the Black Tusk, Travis went out to Boston in real life for a bunch of things, but especially PAX East! He compares it to E3, talks about seeing a band play Devil May Cry music, and of course they get into it about all the video game news of April and what they've been playing! They get into Division 2, Devil May Cry, and then close it all off with Mortal Kombat 11!

NOMADS AIE in The Division 2. The Clan is doing well and having a lot of fun in the game. We're rank 17 (out of 30) with 27 members total. The first post-launch content update was released this past Friday and unlocks the new World Tier 5 that features the latest Stronghold: Tidal Basin. Also, the first "Apparel Event" titled "Invasion" is running until May 2nd. During this time you can earn up to 30 apparel items. Should you earn them all during the event you'll be awarded a special apparel item: The Black Tusk uniform. These 30 items will be available in the usual apparel caches and store after the event, but you can only earn the special Black Tusk uniform during the event. Apparel items include clothing, weapon skins, and emotes. The first raid, an 8 player activity, will go live on April 25th, later this month and our clan members are eagerly awaiting it. Get in and gear up now. Ask about the game in AIE Discord's #thedivision2 text channel. Receiving an invite is as simple as asking for one there for your UPlay ID. You can also look up the clan, "AIE Nomads", and request an invite that way. WoW The AIE Alliance guild is growing with 119 characters currently. Reminder, you just need to submit an application in Umami, leave the Faction as Horde and the officers will correct it when reviewing the application. Don't worry about the level either, just race/class and name and you're set. We are still having issue with gmail accounts, so check the LFO channel for acceptance, as the officers will announce when they've accepted those applications. In game news, the Artifact Knowledge ramp up will continue for the next 4 weeks to make sure everyone is ready for the 8.2 content. A number of players have reached level 50 on their necklace and currently you do not get anything for completing WQ's that award just azerite. Patch 8.2 is soon to be on the PTR (encrypted currently) and several outlets have had interviews with Ion Hazzikostas on what's to come, mostly around systems, flying and very little on content spoilers. WoWHead and MMO-Champion both have good write-ups and links to the originals, though, be warned,

Here is the 63rd installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Worcester thrashers High Command. I discovered High Command on my most recent NY trip, when they shared a bill with Black Tusk and Whores at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn. They were the odd men out that night, with their fast thrash standing in stark contrast to the slower, more "rock" centric bands that played that night. But what stood out to me most about them was the fact that they hailed from Worcester, a city in Massachusetts that I visit almost once a year, and where I had just come back from the day before. So I was interested in sitting down with them to find out more about their scene. We did the interview in their van, parked across the street from Saint Vitus. We talked about their history, their upcoming release on Southern Lord, and what makes Worcester so metal. It was an informative talk, and one that already has me planning my next trip to Worcester. My thanks to the guys in High Command for speaking with me, and to you for listening. Lank and I had the pleasure of sitting down with the guys at Mose Giganticus and thier photographer/director. We talked about the evolution of this band and how it worked its way down to a duo. This was also Lanks last Podcast. Mose Giganticus is an evolving body of music, art, and technology led by Matt Garfield. Since 2007, Garfield has performed hundreds of live shows as Mose Giganticus across North America and Europe, backed by a revolving cast of touring musicians up to 30 members deep. Mose Giganticus achieved notoriety with the release of Gift Horse on Relapse Records in 2010, following an extensive U.S./Canadian tour fueled by recycled waste vegetable oil for Garfield's custom-built tour bus. Through the years, Mose Giganticus has performed with such varied artists as Russian Circles, Screaming Females, Corrosion of Conformity, The Emotron, Tim Fite, Math the Band, Tub Ring, and Black Tusk. Though the touring line-up has shuffled, Joe Smiley has been a consistent contributor to Mose Giganticus from the start- both in the studio and on the stage. Smiley's talents have been featured on every recording as guitarist, recording engineer, or both. As a multi-instrumentalist duo, Garfield and Smiley layer their live performances with custom interactive electronics and lighting to build a cohesive show designed to seem beyond their capacity.
John Dyer Baizley not only plays in Baroness and but is also a well respected and much sought after visual artist, known for his incredible paintings and work with bands such as Kvelertak, Metallica, Black Tusk, Skeletonwitch, Pig Destroyer etc. In this episode we discuss the process and compulsive drive to make art and get into the rich symbolic content of his work. This week, the hosts of one of Godless' favorite podcasts to troll -- the Bad Christian Podcast -- are our guests. Podcast hosts Matt and Toby also play in a Christian Rock band called Emery. They stopped by the studio to get grilled about all things Christianity, the topic of Christian Metal and whether or not it's legit, if the guys making it are believers, or if it's just another cash cow people use to further their influence. Half of our discussion appears in our episide this week, then we'll dive into the fallacy of religion on the newest episode of their show later this week. Chuck and Godless also talk about the latest news: the passing of our friend Athon from Black Tusk, why Black Sabbath shouldn't have been named the #1 Best Metal band of All Time in the MetalSucks countdown, and why that awesome metalhead scientist wore that stupid shirt to a press conference. We also take a reader call-in and discuss some small but beloved bands people may not know about. Songs:Toothgrinder - "Relic of My Youth"Psycroptic - "Echoes to Come"

There's also time to talk about cosplaying and crossbows.
Two words that best describe this week’s show: “big” and “news.” Vic and Scott get a visit from Mike Crump who is the studio manager for the just-opened Microsoft-owned Black Tusk Studios. After all the studio closures and downsizings in Vancouver, this is some terrific news. Mike is a tall, thin, mild-mannered man who seems … Continue reading "Episode 23: Nobody Defeats Black Tusk"
