What does listening have to do with belonging? There is currently a lot of buzz around the cost to organizations when employees do not feel belonging. Yet it’s not just buzz. There is more and more research showing that when employees feel like they belong, organizations can reap bottom-line benefits. In this episode, Sarah describes how listening is the practice of showing people that they belong, and is a key capacity needed to activate the value-creating all the buzz. She talks about the importance of recognizing that while it is the employers’ responsibility to shape belonging experiences, work cannot be the only focus. A leader can also foster a sense of belonging when they support individuals in their team discover belonging and identity outside of work. For example, having time and resources to spend time with friends, taking a class, joining a club or volunteering. They also know which other stakeholders are most important for them to listen to. And that's not necessarily dependent upon who has the most financial leverage.” - Sarah Judd Welch “As a leader, it is your responsibility to shape belonging experiences at work, this is something that is within your capacity and your control and it is your job as a leader.” - Sarah Judd Welch “While it is an employer’s and a leader’s responsibility to shape belonging experiences, work cannot be the only place where we feel that we belong.” - Sarah Judd Welch “When you listen, you are able to understand what it is that people need, you hear them and by the very mere fact of listening to them, you are showing that you value their perspective, their inputs, and their opinions and that you respect their needs.” - Sarah Judd Welch Notes / Mentions: American Medical Association: https://www.ama-assn.org/ Tokeativity: https://tokeativity.com/ Connect with Sarah Judd Welch: LinkedIn E: sarah@sharehold.co Connect with Raquel Ark: www.listeningalchemy.com Mobile: + 491732340722 contact@listeningalchemy.com LinkedIn

Joyce and Emily discuss the challenges women face gaining access to employment following an incarceration and how the cannabis industry changed her life trajectory. It's time to look into the most recent research on cannabis and pregnancy. Not a Reddit forum or an Instagram comment thread. This episode is so packed full of information we had to split it into 2 parts. Part 2 will be coming out soon so make sure you subscribe to get updated! See full transcription and blog post here >>> This episode is brought to you by Tokeativity, the Global Cannabis Community for Women We asked Neuroscientist Andrew Scheyer to give us a look into research and data that has been collected and analyzed since 2002 - on the long term consequences of cannabinoid exposure during pregnancy. As Cannabis Enthusiasts, it was hard to hear some of what Andrew had to say, but for the same reason we vaccinate kids (science) we need to have this information. We have all heard something along the lines of “I used cannabis when I was pregnant and my kids are geniuses!” and while we do not want to judge, discredit, or make anyone feel hurt, it is our job to look into the most recent research possible. So listen to Episode 26 and 27 (part 2 coming soon) or read the transcript to learn what Andrew and his team have discovered about cannabis during pregnancy Note: this article is just about cannabis DURING pregnancy and breastfeeding. We most certainly support mothers and fathers who smoke weed. Every person is different and everybody's endocannabinoid system is different. You have to do what feels right by you and your doctor. Have a different opinion? Please share it! Have other research, let us know!
On this week's episode of The Canna Mom Show Joyce and her co-host Amie Searles speak with Samantha Montanaro, the energetic and passionate co-founder and chief operating officer of Tokeativity in Portland, Oregon. Sam shares how she came to host regular events like The Oregon Cannabis Industry Meet Up and Puff Pass and Paint Portland and provided a private cannabis friendly space for dispensaries, farms and processors to host employee trainings, team building events and parties to celebrate their successes. Samantha is a multi-media artist, event coordinator, musician and, of course, mom who is passionate about community, cannabis and feminine empowerment. The community Samantha built through Prism House became an epicenter for Oregon cannabis social culture. In 2017, Samantha expanded her regular repertoire of events by partnering up with Lisa Snyder to launch Tokeativity, the world wide cannabis community for women. Joyce and Amie were lucky enough to meet Samantha last spring during her East Coast visit when she was in Massachusetts promoting the New England Tokeativity week. They share their insights into how to have the “cannabis conversation” and what it looks like to be a cool canna mom. “We have a lot to learn—especially about educating women about cannabinoids and how to access the medicine,” says Aliza Sherman, founder of Ellementa.com (https://ellementa.com/wellbeing/), a site that offers women education about the health and wellness benefits of cannabis—stories about cannabis as a sexual aid, reviews of edibles, or CBD bath salts. Sherman speaks with CoveyClub founder, Lesley Jane Seymour, about why the cannabis industry is a great place for female entrepreneur—it’s “like the internet in the ‘80s”--and points to sites such as Womengrow.com (https://womengrow.com/) for job listings in the legal industry and Tokeativity.com for groups centered on careers and business. Sherman says she got into cannabis when trying to solve personal “pain and sleep” issues: "cannabis offers special help for women going through peri-menopause and menopause."
So many laughs were had on this episode. It was great to catch up with "IllZ" and talk shop. The last time we spoke on mic was a couple years ago. A lot has changed for Team Illz. She has always been an advocate and very outspoken for the voiceless. She has recently took on the role of the east coast ambassador of an amazing community of females called Tokeativity. Based in Portland, Oregon, USA, Tokeativity was created by Lisa Snyder and Samantha Montanaro in 2016 with an intention to nurture a safe space for women to connect, learn and create. Whether they are a curious first timer or daily consumer, all women are welcome to join in our community in person or online. Illz is a perfect addition to their team. She is highly motivated, always thinking outside the box and cares a great deal for others. I am honored to know such a strong person. Nothing can nor will stop her. Be on the look out.
