Acclaimed actor Rick Cosnett joins the show to promote a new independent film entitled, “Shoulder Dance.” Cosnett is best known for playing Eddie Thawne/Cobalt Blue in the WB CW TV Series “The Flash,” which concluded its 9-season run in 2023. Shoulder Dance stars Cosnett, along with Matt Dallas, Taylor Frey, Samuel Larsen, and Maggie Geha. Geha is known in the superhero genre for playing Ivy in the series “Gotham.” In this episode, Cosnett recounts his days as Eddie Thawne, with a particular emphasis on his Season 1 death. A Philadelphia native, Cook obtained his bachelor's degree in film and television production from Temple University. He went on to write, direct and produce his first short film, “Keep Calling Me”. The film received High Acclaim at the 2008 Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. His feature film “Sure Looks Good” was an official selection of the 2010 San Diego Black Film Festival and was distributed by Maverick Entertainment. Cook went on to direct, edit, and produce four short films, a web series, and a feature film from 2012 to 2018. In 2019 Cook got the opportunity to edit the independent feature film “The Available Wife”. This film went on to be selected for the 2020 American Black Film Festival, where it received high acclaim. Later that year, “The Available Wife” aired on BET. Later that year, Cook relocated to Los Angeles, California, where his editing career ascended. Ahead of Things We Like's premiere, director Adi Jahic joins Split Picks to discuss his debut feature and an underseen classic from a beloved character actor. Writer-director Adi Jahic spoke with Split Tooth back in February about his excellent debut film,Things We Like, which he also edited and features him on screen in a crucial second act role. Early in the conversation, Jahic noted that he's rarely inspired by films in the traditional sense, never watching anything while at work on a project or making conscious homage. He credits Tom Noonan's What Happened Was..., however, with convincing him to set out on directing a feature-length film of his own. Jahic describes the 1994 Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner as, like the best features, “saying a short film's worth of things every 10 minutes.” Things We Like premieres next week at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. In anticipation of the May 17 screening, Jahic joined associate film editor Bennett Glace to discuss how both his film and Noonan's present viewers with unexpected emotional turns, the benefits of the occasional mishap on set, and more.

What if you were given permission to shoot most of your film in one of the busiest and iconic streets in the world, Times Square. Well, today's guest did just that. He shot most of his new film Rapid Eye Movement.In the heart of Times Square, radio DJ Rick Weider is driven to the edge of insanity as he tries to break the 11-day world record for staying awake, under the threat of a deranged caller who will kill him if he fails. In his quest to stay awake, he endures a harrowing physical, mental and emotional ordeal while summoning the will to survive against all the odds.Rapid Eye Movement was given unprecedented access to Times Square by New York City to shoot the majority of the film right in the heart of the “crossroads of the world”. This included closing a lane of traffic for several weeks to accommodate the placement of the main set – Rick Weider's mobile radio broadcast booth where he takes on the 11-day struggle to stay awake. No film has ever had this extensive shoot in Times Square.The mandate of the film was to create absolute authenticity. A custom-made soundproof windowed booth was built to allow live audio recording, eliminating the need for ADR. Literally thousands of “extras” were always on hand to give the film scope and realism. The majority of the film was shot using an ultra-fast 18mm Zeiss lens, creating a much bigger visual space within the confined setting. No green screens were used for any of the Times Square scenes. It is a true New York film.Canadian-born actor François Arnaud takes the lead role of radio DJ Rick Weider. He embraced the challenge of shooting on location in Times Square, having to undergo a difficult emotional journey in the middle of the intensity of New York's famous landmark area. A man documents his girlfriend's 35th birthday on his phone. What he captures throughout the night are the most disturbing human acts imaginable. Mario Cerrito III is an award winning film producer, screen writer and director residing in New Jersey. Primarily known in the horror/thriller genre, Mario has a unique writing style that usually results in unforeseen twists in his films. Mario's first film Deadly Gamble was produced on a mere $10,000 budget and was signed to worldwide distribution by Los Angeles based studio/distributor Cinema Epoch. It was released worldwide on Cable VOD in 2015 and many other top platforms. Cerrito's sophomore film THE LISTING filmed in 2015 and premiered in June 2017 at the Newtown Theatre in Newtown, PA with a budget just shy of $25,000. THE LISTING was signed to distribution company, SGL Entertainment and was released on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD in 2019 for USA, Canada and worldwide. The film went on to win best feature film at the 2019 HorrorNewsNetwork (HNN) film festival. THE LISTING also went to Marche Du Film at Cannes Film Festival in France. Cerrito's third feature film cult horror movie, HUMAN HIBACHI was an official selection of The New Jersey Horror Con and Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. I think we all can agree that 2020 has been one hell of a ride so far. Almost every film festival had to shut down due to COVID this year but P.I.F.F. had a contingency plan. A few years back they acquired a Roku channel that allows you on your couch to enjoy the festival in your home if you cannot make it in person. This was a smart move however, it still had it pitfalls. A lot of filmmakers did not want to only stream their work they wanted to fill seats. Ben and I touch on this never before ventured challenge and how they are adapting and what the plan is moving forward.  This was recorded prior to the protests..  Also sorry for the low audio on Ben. What if you were given permission to shoot most of your film in one of the busiest and iconic streets in the world, Times Square. Well, today's guest did just that. He shot most of his new film Rapid Eye Movement.Peter Bishai wrote and directed the epic true-life saga Colors of Heaven (aka A Million Colours). It is the winner of two South African Academy Awards, Best Foreign Film at the WorldFest Houston Film Festival and was the Opening Night Gala film at the Hollywood Black Film Festival. He also directed the comedy-adventure The Dueling Accountant, which won Best Comedy Film at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and Best First Feature at the Long Island International Film Expo.It is profiled in the book Fervid Filmmaking: 66 Cult Pictures of Vision, Verve and No Self-Restraint. His newest film is the psychological thriller Rapid Eye Movement. He lives in New York City.

On my final night of the 12th annual Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, I got to sit down with the very talented Shannon Murray. Shannon is the lead in the independent film "Rag Doll" She plays an MMA trainer and you guessed it, she's a rag doll. It's pretty amazing that she did all of her own stunts. She has a background in gymnastics and martial arts. She sustained a few minor injuries from the fight scenes but that didn't stop her, it seemed to fuel her even more.  Shannon has been involved with many projects as an assistant director. She plans to write and direct her own film one day. Right now Rag Doll is rolling around to the various film festivals throughout the country. Keep your eyes peeled, you may just see Shannon on the big screen. She has an amazing future ahead of her. I'm excited to see what's next. 

(Welcome to the 12th annual Philadelphia Independent Film Festival pt.1/3) This past Thursday night, it was my privilege to attend the second night screening of the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. Absolution is a short film that packs the punch of a full length feature which sits with the viewer long after its over. The story follows Michael, struggling to overcome feelings of regret and deep remorse over a past traumatic event. With all hope lost, Michael (Gaz Hayden) encounters a woman who inevitably leads him down the path to find comfort in religion.   I sat down to chat with Gaz at the festival for a scheduled half hour which ended up being twice as long. We had a great time reminiscing about the films we saw as kids and Gaz's plans for the future. The tireless passion shown by these independent filmmakers has been an eyeopening experience that I encourage everyone to explore and support.

This was a very interesting podcast. Weeks back I posed a question on Instagram.  "Is there truly ever a present moment in time, or is it constant future?" I wanted have a podcast with a couple people to discuss perceptions of time.  I received a DM an hour later. I clicked on the profile and it was the IG for the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival I had to do a double take. I responded and quickly learned I was speaking with the founder and director of the P.I.F.F. Ben Barnett! Well that through me for a bit of a loop. I reached back out and posed, "Why don't we intertwine the concept of time into film and media?" Ben also liked that idea. We set a date and had a rough location in mind.  Sunday came and unfortunately we had to bounce from building to building. We were out of options and started to set up in a hallway in the U.O.A. wing of the Merriam Theater. Luckily a student on the music production floor ran into us and said she had an open room for us to use. What a day. Exciting, fun, interesting and memorable. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did to conduct it. Ben is a cool dude and a great person to talk to. 

This week we have a conversation with Cinematographer and Producer Josh Moody. Josh was born on March 24, 1988, in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. He is known for the feature films All Light Will End (2018), Strategy and Pursuit (2018) and the web series Almost Balanced Foodie (2018). Josh also has credits from internationally recognized independent films, music videos, promotional material, and has shot corporate content for clients such as The Boy Scouts of America, Billboard, Juice Plus, and his alma mater, Vanderbilt University. His work has screened and won awards at film festivals both internationally and domestically, including The Nashville Film Festival, Derby Film Festival, Tupelo Film Festival, HorrorHound Weekend, TISH, Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, Nashville Independent Film Festival, and The International Horror Hotel. He has been nominated for Best Cinematography at the 48 Hour Film Festival, the 54 Hour Film Festival, amongst others, and his work has been featured in international magazines and trade publications specifically detailing his use of camera and lighting to augment story and character. ​ In 2018, he co-founded the Nashville Independent Film Festival with director Chris Blake.
