"I think all black and brown people across all industries and fields know that we always have to work 10 times harder to be met in the middle."We're joined by rap rock pioneers Oxymorrons at Warped Tour. They get real about the challenges and pride of being Black artists in the alternative rock scene. The band also shares the creative freedom behind their latest independent album cycle._________________________________________________Live from Warped Tour, we sit down with the incomparable Oxymorrons. Hailing from Queens, NY, the band has consistently challenged the boundaries of the alternative scene by blending hip hop, rock, and punk into a sound that is uniquely their own. In this raw and honest conversation, they discuss the realities of being Black artists in a predominantly white space, touching on the concept that they must work ten times harder just to be met in the middle. They share powerful anecdotes about the pride they see in fans of color at shows, reinforcing why representation is more than just a buzzword. We also dive into the creative cycle behind their latest independent project, "create, destroy, rebuild, repeat," and what it means to make art without the pressures of commerce. This is a must-listen for anyone interested in the evolution of the pop punk and emo history and the artists pushing it forward.Chapters:00:00 Intro00:20 The Most Emo Song We're Listening To01:18 What Makes Oxymorrons Emo?Guest/Band Links:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC74jCWaxaSUoBg-JwlBRThAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/oxymorrons/?hl=enOfficial Website: https://oxymorrons.store/?srsltid=AfmBOopA7hsxp2ZkHkV9VwG0Ge19r6RPwgnKEkH79Qqas8DluzoECnQ9 JOIN THE CLUB! Chef Yara Herrera, a native of Los Angeles, worked in some of LA's most demanding kitchens (Spago, Providence, Majordomo) before moving to New York City and Momofuko Ko. During the pandemic, after gaining attention for her own food in pop-up form, she was approached by the owners of Rolo's--the hit restaurant in Ridgewood, Queens--about partnering on a Mexican-American restaurant, which came to be in the form of Hellbender. In this free-ranging conversation, Yara discusses her circuitous route to the kitchen and why it took several years to begin exploring the cuisine of her own heritage.Huge thanks to Andrew Talks to Chefs' presenting sponsor, meez, the recipe operating software for culinary professionals. "When was the last time you felt the baby move? There is no heartbeat." Those were the words that Rebbetzin Tzipah Wertheimer's doctor told her when she went in for an appointment at 9 months pregnant.Rebbetzin Tzipah bravely shares about the loss of her baby at full term. The sadness and disappointment; the way she handled coming home from the hospital without the baby, and how she was able to move forward. She talks about the mentors from whom she sought advice, and the strength she gained from her Chabad on Campus of Queens. Rebbetzin Tzipah, and her husband, Rabbi Shaul Wertheimer, have been running the Chabad on Campus of Queens (New York) since 2004.Rebbetzin Tzipah goes on to speak about the losses of two other pregnancies, and her relationship with Hashem during these challenging times. She learned to lean into the Jewish traditions of grief and mourning. She also received some poignant advice from one of her mentors: "You don't need to understand everything in order to move forward." In other words, we need to have Emunah (faith) in Hashem that everything He does is good...but we don't need to understand how or why it's good. As human beings, we don't see the big picture. We see the events that are unfolding in front of us, but we don't necessarily see the connection to our past, and we definitely don't see what the future holds for us because of these events (not despite them.)Rebbetzin Tzipah also addresses the question of "Why do bad things happen to good people?"To be connected to Rebbetzin Tzipah, please email Vera Kessler, host of America's Top Rebbetzins: atrebbetzins@gmail.com Vera Kessler (host of America's Top Rebbetzins) is a certified life coach. This week we take an introspective look at the fascinating History Of Baseball In Queens, New York. A story that begins in 1886, when Queens was the only municipalty in New York City that disregarded the Sunday Blue Laws, which prohibited commerce and personel ammusement on Sundays. The borough's landscape was dotted with three ballparks at this time, Ridgewood Parks One and Two in Woodhaven, and Dexter Park located in Jamaica, Queens, and because a blind eye was turned on the Sunday Blue Laws of New York City, Queens became the tourist destination spot on the day of the Sabbath, for the hard working blue-collar citizens of the city, as the Brooklyn baseball team, who would eventually become the Dodgers, begin scheduling Sunday games in the borough, Soon thereafter teams as far away as Jersey City begin scheduling home Sunday games there as well, when the Brooklyn ball team is out of town. 76 years later after the Dodgers and Giants flee the city for California, the expansion franchise team, New York Mets becomes the team most famously celebrated for calling Queens home, is born. This comes with two baseball stadiums in the team's history in Shea Stadium and Citi Field, and we will cover the construction and colorful histories of both cribs. #QueensNewYork #BrooklynGrays #SundayBlueLaws #GeorgeGrauer #GrauersRidgewoodPark #CharlieByrne #WilliamWallace #WallacesRidgewoodPark #JimKennedy #BrooklynGladiators #NatStrong #BillShea #GeorgeVMcLaughlin #WalterOMalley #WilliamShea #WillieStargell #JimBunning #JohannSantana #OJSimpson #BillBuckner #MikePiazza

Please subscribe now for as little as 5$ and gain access to a community of over 700 awesome, curious, kind, funny, brilliant, generous souls Today I have your headlines, clips then my interview with Nayyera begins at 24 mins and Abigail at 39 minutes Nayyera is a broadcast journalist and host who tells the stories of how democracy works — and doesn't work — for all kinds of people. Nayyera has interviewed global leaders and local activists, drawing on years spent in the trenches of the nation's most competitive campaigns and in the halls of government working to resolve global challenges. Nayyera is the rare host with a nuanced understanding of both domestic and international current affairs. Nayyera regularly hosts multiple hours of programming a day on cable television and satellite radio. Nayyera most recently launched and anchored the Black News Channel's two-hour, nightly newscast, The World Tonight. As the network's Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Nayyera's editorial lens highlighted the people at the heart of policy and communities caught in conflict. Her versatility as a broadcast host also found her filling in for the network's prime time programs. Prior to her media work, Nayyera served as a Senior Director in the White House helping implement the President's agenda on national security and economic policy. She served in the State Department as a spokesperson explaining U.S. foreign policy to audiences around the world. Nayyera's global experience is based on a foundation of understanding U.S. politics and culture, having spent several years helping Members of Congress connect with their local communities. Overall, Nayyera's work has connected her to nearly all 50 states and 30 countries. As immigrants from Pakistan who settled in Staten Island, New York, Nayyera's parents – a physician and a public school teacher – instilled in her a commitment to public service. From an early age, Nayyera has sought to understand how the American Dream worked for her while others around the world struggle. A traveller by nature and then by profession, Nayyera's explorations have taken her from debates in the U.S. Congress and the Israeli Knesset, to hiking in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, to roaming the streets of London and Lahore. Nayyera received a Masters from Georgetown University Law Center and studied history at the University of Michigan. She lives in Maryland with her veterinarian husband and two kids under five. She wants a dog again but has agreed to wait until the family is done with diapers. Nayyera finds zen while scuba diving, which is not as often as she would like. Abigail Hummel is an administrative specialist for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at her alma mater, the University of Florida - but her day job is the least interesting thing about her. She has been an avid performer since childhood - you may have seen her 2001 Super Bowl commercial or her episode of Malcolm in the Middle! - competed in performance and playwriting in high school, and led the student-run Shakespeare in the Park organization in college. She is also passionate about government, worked for the US Census in 2020, and has served as an election worker several times. Please subscribe now for as little as 5$ and gain access to a community of over 700 awesome, curious, kind, funny, brilliant, generous souls Today I have your headlines, clips and my interview with Aaron Rupar which begins at 27 mins Over three years at Vox, Aaron established himself as one of the foremost chroniclers of Trumpism, explaining what's happening on the American right for a largely progressive audience. He immersed himself in right-wing media and watched Trump rallies so you didn't have to. And he still does that here, with some help from friends. Public Notice is fair, but not impartial. We think democracy and free and fair elections are good things and, unlike a lot of mainstream coverage, are not shy about saying so — or about holding major outlets accountable when they equivocate. I'm extremely proud of the quality and quantity of work we publish each and every week. Recent highlights include my national headline-making scoop on how Sinclair injects deceptive right-wing attacks into local news broadcasts, in-depth explainers of the Trump trials and Supreme Court shenanigans , spicy Q&As with prominent political commentators, the case for Biden as a historically underrated president, and a big picture breakdown of Trump's horrifying second-term agenda.
