Originally a tool to poke the pomposity of politicians, religious figures, and artists, the boy from Staines became so much more, having his own spin-off shows, appearing in a Madonna music video, and eventually his own film in 2002.   In this episode, Guy and Rob talk all things Ali G and Sacha Baron Cohen, whilst being ever so careful to leave Borat and Bruno for a later date. One of my first friends in comedy, Chip Chantry, joins me on this episode. Chip and I have a lot of similarities between our childhoods, comedy interests, and our careers. We chat about his very first time doing stand-up (opening for his brother's band), our early days in the Philly scene, how Philly comedy has evolved and we each work on a new bit. We also talk about the television masterpiece, Strangers With Candy, because half of our conversations are about that show anyways. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Chip joins me for the 5th time on the show and we dive right into quarantine life and how it has affected his stand up. Luckily Chip is also a writer and has become the virtual quiz master for Johnny Goodtimes and is involved in a couple other fun projects you'll hear about during the show. Here is some more detailed background.   Chip Chantry is a stand up comedian and television writer. He has written for Crazy Talk, a comedy/talk series for NBC Universal and the syndicated series Whacked Out Sports. He most recently wrote on the NatGeo series Howie Mandel’s Animals Doing Things. Chip was the winner of 2013’s Philly’s Phunniest Contest at Helium Comedy Club, where he was a regular performer. Chip also won the “Funniest Comedian” award in Philadelphia’s annual Comedy Awards in both 2012 and 2014, and was named Best Comedian 2018 by Philadelphia Magazine. Chip is a recurring guest on the Doug Loves Movies and Todd Glass Show Podcasts. Formerly a 4th grade teacher, Chip left the classroom to pursue comedy and writing. He has opened for national headliners such as Dave Chappelle, Bob Saget, and Tig Notaro. In 2012, he released his first live comedy album, ACROSS FROM THE ADONIS. His second album, SWINGERS PARTY, was released in March 2019, where it spent time at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts and is currently in rotation on SiriusXM.

The Musical Comedy Awards return for their 12th year, with the heats kicking off in London in less than four months time. Entries for the 2020 competition open online from October 1st, and to celebrate this, the Musical Comedy Awards podcast will be back in October, with more highlights and exclusive interviews from the 2019 shows earlier this year. In the meantime, we're promoting today's #PODSTRIKE.

Monday sees the performance of a ‘Relaxed Prom' at the Royal Albert Hall, offering an informal environment for children, young people and adults with autism, sensory and communication impairments, learning disabilities and other challenges. Nicholas goes in search of the most expensive and exquisite watch ever made - The Marie-Antoinette - also known as The Queen - a case watch designed by Breguet in the 18th century. The Incredible Story of Marie Antoinette's Watch is on BBC Four. Dame Jacqueline Wilson is a writer of children's literature. Her new book Clover Moon tells the story of a young girl trying to survive in Victorian London. Publication also marks the launch of the Jacqueline Wilson Creative Writing Prize which encourages children to take up writing fiction. One of Jacqueline's most successful and enduring creations has been the famous Tracy Beaker who first appeared in 1991. A former Children's Laureate, Jacqueline's books have sold over 40m copies in the UK and have been translated into 34 languages. Clover Moon is published by Doubleday. Ken Hom is a chef and food writer. A leading authority on Chinese cuisine, his first book on the subject was published in 1981 and his first programme for BBC television was broadcast in 1984. In his new autobiography, My Stir-Fried Life, he writes about his childhood in Chicago's Chinatown where he worked in his uncle's restaurant at the age of 11 and how he found social acceptance through food and cooking for others. Harry Doupe is a semi-regular to the show this time of year. We made this one a bit longer than usual because there was so much on Harry's mind. He takes aim at the Comedy Awards, the Comedy Network, Yuk Yuks, and reminisces about the early days in Vancouver with Ryan Stiles and the late, great Colin Campbell.

Opus Moreschi is a tall, pale son of Italy and an improviser, formerly a house performer at Improv Olympic West and currently at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. He's also written for shows such as Lil' Bush and The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Opus is an inspiring figure, for his talent, of course, but especially for his determination. When it was announced that Stephen Colbert was getting his own show, Opus knew he immediately wanted to write for him. Five writing packets and a number of near misses later, he was hired on as a writer at The Colbert Report, where he currently spends his days on what is easily one of the best shows on TV. A few weeks ago Opus sat down with us at The Wrestling Team apartment to discuss divorce, improv, pyramid schemes, over-achieving at temp jobs, Edward G. Robinson impersonations, production by Andy Dick, writing political material and The Comedy Awards. We also debut a BRAND NEW comedy term that is sure to set the jargon community on fire!
