When we were kids we pretended we were doctors, princesses or fire fighters because we were trying on who we want to be when we grow up. We call it playing make believe. As teenagers when we tried a new style of clothes or a new friend group and we were called "posers". But in reality we were still just trying to figure out who we wanted to be. As adults we sometimes step into professional roles or situations where we feel uncomfortable and where we feel like we have to fake it till we make it and we call this feeling imposter syndrome. But we are still just trying to figure out who we want to be when we grow up even if we are middle aged. We have three main gears in life. 1. Cruise Control 2. Overdrive - Passing Lane 3. Coasting - slow lane I don't think anyone should live in overdrive always. That is the hustle mentality that I don't subscribe too. I think overdrive is needed for seasons and you need to shift back into cruise control as soon as possible. We also have seasons when we need to coast. It's time to get in the slow lane and listen to gps. Too often when we are in overdrive professionally we forget to shift into coast personally and vice versa. Q4 is coming and it often ends up being a very stressful time in homebuilding. Your leadership is pushing to hit those sales and settlements goals! Everyone's bonuses is are on the line. You want to finish good but not too good, because that means you have to do EVEN MORE next year.
Knowing and Doing are two very different things. We KNOW we should eat well and exercise but we don't often DO that. We KNOW we should do follow up calls and log our activities in our CRM but we dont' often DO that consistently. As a leader we KNOW we need to hold one on ones but we often say no and don't DO them for weeks! You can be pushed into action a few ways. On this episode I dig into what I think spurs action and I give you a few ideas on how you can take what you KNOW you should be doing and actually take ACTION on it today. Transitions come in all shapes in sizes in your career. You can get a promotion, relocate within a company, move to a new company, start in a whole new industry and the list goes on and on. For me I faced many transitions in my career but on this episode I did into the three biggest transitions: 1. Motherhood 2. Leaving and transitioning to a new company. 3. Sometimes a hyper focus on growth and goals keeps your focus in the future. This makes you feel less than or not enough as where you are today vs. where you want to go are light years away. What you need to do when these feelings set in is reset your mindset to TODAY! 1. Celebrate your wins this far! 2. Create simple habits that you can consistently perform to get progress today. 3.
